Glenn Knapstad
Glenn Joseph Knapstad, 29, of Bremerton died Oct. 12, 1999, at his home of complications from diabetes.
He was born July 14, 1970, in Great Falls, Mont., to Arthur R. and Barbara (Buffington) Knapstad. He grew up in Port Orchard, graduating from South Kitsap High School in 1988 and from Olympic College in 1990.
Mr. Knapstad had worked at the Fleet and Industrial Supply Center Puget Sound in Bremerton for more
than eight years at the time of his death. He also had been employed by Continental Floral Greens in Belfair from 1990 to 1991.
Survivors include his mother, Barbara Knapstad, now of Auburn; his father and stepmother, Arthur R. and Melody Knapstad, now of Choteau, Mont.; two brothers, Gordon of Morton, Wash., and Gregory of Camp Pendleton, Calif.; a sister, Lori Crawford of Auburn; his maternal grandmother, Lois Mueller of Belfair; and his paternal grandmother, Dorie Knapstad of Great Falls, Mont.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Nebraska Street Baptist Church in Port Orchard. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. Private interment will take place at Ivy Green cemetery in Bremerton.

Noel McCracken
Noel F. McCracken, 68, of Port Townsend died Oct. 11, 1999, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Port Townsend.
He was born June 22, 1931, in Peoria, Ill., to Harold Joseph and Mabel Doris (Marfell) McCracken. He grew up in Peoria, graduating from Spalding Institute there in 1950.
He married
Josephine Palsat on Sept. 10, 1955, at St. Mary's Cathedral in Peoria.
Mr. McCracken worked for Caterpillar Inc. for 40 years, retiring in 1990.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mary of Silverdale; three sons, Mark of Crofton, Md., John of Mead and James of Highspire, Pa.; and seven grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with a graveside service following at 1:30 p.m. at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Diabetes Research Foundation at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle.
Connie Serley
Connie Louise Serley, 44, of Silverdale died Oct. 10, 1999, at her home.
She was born Aug. 27, 1955, in Riverside, Calif., to Roger and Margaret (Hemstreet) McDaniel. She grew up in Riverside, and attended Ramona High School.
She married
George H. Serley on July 19, 1981, in Norco, Calif.
Mrs. Serley had lived in Kitsap County since 1987. She worked as a certified nursing assistant in private care from 1987 until 1993, when she developed multiple sclerosis.
She was active in bowling, having been a member and secretary of the Sunday Highliners League. She was also a member of the Kitsap Regional Farmer's Market, serving as publisher and editor of the market newsletter.
Survivors include her husband; her parents; a son, Jon of Poulsbo; a daughter, Alicia Kindopp of Silverdale; a sister, Barbara Robles of Riverside; and three grandchildren, Emilee and Tristan Kindopp, both of Silverdale, and Monica Serley of Poulsbo.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Kitsap Cremation & Burial Society.

Hal Edwards
Hal Edwards, 74, of Bremerton died Oct. 7, 1999, at his home.
He was born June 25, 1925, at Saddleworth, Yorkshire, England, to Mason and Elsie (Moore) Edwards of Dobcross, Odham, England.
He was educated in Yorkshire, graduating from Dobcross National High School in 1940.
He then joined the British Merchant Navy as a cadet. He attended Sir John Cass Nautical College in 1947 and was with the Merchant Marine as a first mate until 1949.
Mr. Edwards entered the United States from Canada in November 1953 on a resident visa and became a U.S. citizen in April 1963. While in New York, he played semi-professional soccer.
He married
the former Irene Korney on Sept. 6, 1960, in Clear Lake, Iowa. They lived in Minneapolis for a time before moving to Bremerton in 1977.
Mr. Edwards worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Shop 06 from July 1977 until retiring as a machinist mechanic in August 1989.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Brett Edwards of Port Orchard; a daughter, Pamela Edwards of Bremerton; and two grandchildren, Paul and Colin Edwards.
A funeral service is planned for Thursday at noon at Lewis Funeral Chapel, with cremation at Cherry Grove Memorial Park.
Vern Gimbaldt
Werner "Vern" Gimbaldt, 72, of Port Ludlow died Oct. 10, 1999, in Seattle.
He was born May 4, 1927, in Hamburg, Germany.
Mr. Gimbaldt was a Port Ludlow resident since 1960, when he started his business, Port Ludlow Plumbing.
He is survived by his wife, Sunny Gimbaldt; two sons, Marty Peterson and Brian Peterson; a daughter, Marlene Smith; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at Kosec Funeral Home in Port Townsend.

Byron Hanberg
Byron William Hanberg, 85, of Silverdale died Oct. 10, 1999, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
He was born Jan. 24, 1914, in Astoria, Ore., to Andrew and Zena (Schlupe) Hanberg. He was raised and educated in Portland, Ore., graduating from Oregon State University in 1935, with a degree in electrical engineering.
Mr. Hanberg worked as an electrical engineer at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard from 1936 until his retirement in 1969.
He married
Melba DeMent on June 28, 1950, in Silverdale.
Survivors include his wife; a son, James of Silverdale; and a sister, Idris Haneberg of Bellevue. He was preceded in death by a son, Bill, in 1985.
A funeral service is planned for 2 p.m. Thursday at Lewis Funeral Chapel with interment following at Forest Lawn cemetery.
George DeMello
George B. DeMello, 77, of Bremerton died Oct. 9, 1999, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
He was born Aug. 12, 1922, in Oakland, Calif., to Delthine and Anne (Muscus) DeMello. He was raised and educated in Oakland.
He married
Velda Bunn on April 2, 1943, in Bloomington, Ill. She preceded him in death in 1998.
Mr. DeMello served in the Army during World War II.
He worked as an auto mechanic with the city of Bremerton for 20 years, retiring in 1979. He had lived in Bremerton since 1951, and had been employed as an auto mechanic at various businesses prior to his employment with the city.
Mr. DeMello was well known as a local collector of Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
Survivors include three sons, Edward and Anthony, both of Bremerton, and George Jr. of Cincinnati; two daughters, Romona DeMello-Hoss of San Diego and Kathy Arnold of Bremerton; a brother, Robert of Hawaii; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral service is planned for 2 p.m. Friday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Inurnment will take place at Forest Lawn cemetery.
Tiny Brotherton
Eugene R. "Tiny" Brotherton, 64, of Port Orchard died Oct. 7, 1999, at Harrison Hospital of complications from diabetes.
He was born Dec. 18, 1934, in Tacoma, to Thomas H. and Ima (Nyman) Brotherton. He grew up in Tacoma, graduating from Lincoln High School there in 1952.
Mr. Brotherton served in the Air Force from 1957 to 1960. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.
He married
Marian J. Mix on June 1, 1957, in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Mr. Brotherton worked as a machinist at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1989. He also was a math instructor for the PSNS apprentice school and an advanced math instructor at Olympic College.
He was active in Boy Scouts when his sons were participating, a volunteer for 20 years with the District 7 Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Pleasant Valley Community Club.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Richard of Port Orchard, Paul of Bremerton and Michael of Olympia; a sister, Barbara Britton of Tacoma; and two grandchildren, Jason and Kaleb, both of Olympia. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas H. Brotherton Jr.
A graveside service is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Agnes Kennedy
Agnes R. Kennedy, 78, of Bremerton died of natural causes Oct. 9, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Aug. 15, 1921, in Paris.
She married
Arthur Kennedy in 1945, in Paris. The couple later was divorced and Mr. Kennedy preceded her in death.
She moved to Olalla in 1956, lived in New York City from 1966 to 1978, then returned to Kitsap County. She became a U.S. citizen in the late 1960s.
While living in New York City, she worked at a library. Later, she was a caregiver at Cypress Gardens in Bremerton for approximately 15 years until her retirement.
Survivors include two sons, Pat of Beaverton, Ore., and Dan of Bremerton. She was preceded in death by a daughter and a grandson.
No services are planned. Arrangements are under
the direction of Kitsap Cremation & Burial Society.
