Helen Mann
Helen (Shawhan) Mann, 75, of Bellingham and a former resident of Hood Canal near Belfair, died Sept. 9, 1999, at her home.
She had moved to the south shore of Hood Canal after her marriage in 1950 to Calvin H. Mann Jr. The couple lived there until 1956, when they moved to Bellingham.
She attended Mississippi State College for Women, earning a bachelor's degree in education in 1946.
She was co-founder of the Hood Canal News, the Huckleberry Herald and St. Paul's Episcopal Little Epistles preschool. She was a master gardener, a Sharing Shop volunteer, a member of the Whatcom Literacy Council, the Bellingham Theater Guild, St. Anne's Guild, American Association of University Women, the Literary Guild Reading Group and the International Student Exchange Program.
Survivors include three daughters, Helen Tanzer and Sarah McEvoy, both of Bellingham, and Jean Mann of Seattle; four sons, Ranny and Hunter, both of Bellingham, Cal of Palo Alto, Calif., and Ben of Antarctica; a brother, the Rev. Ben Shawhan of Texas; and eight grandchildren, Shaw and Hunter Mann-Dempster, Emily, Heidi and Reid McEvoy and Jordan Mann, all of Bellingham, and Ryan and Charlie Mann, both of Palo Alto. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987.
Gerald Bronk
Gerald Alfon Bronk, 60, of Bremerton died of cancer Sept. 30, 1999, at Naval Hospital Bremerton.
He was born July 23, 1939, in St. Paul, Minn., to Walter and Clara (Weiss) Bronk. He grew up in St. Paul and in North Branch, Minn. He attended North Branch High School, the University of Alaska in Adak, Alaska, and Olympic College.
Mr. Bronk served in the Navy from 1956 until his retirement in 1978. He was a storekeeper first class.
His duty stations included USS Mauna Kea; NAAS Ream Field in Imperial Beach, Calif.; the naval station in Adak; the carriers USS Oriskany and USS Hornet; the commissary in Great Lakes, Ill.; and the Trident Refit Facility at Bangor.
His military honors included the National Defense Service Medal, three Good Conduct medals, the Vietnam Service Medal with bronze star, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Gallantry Cross and the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon with bronze star.
Following his retirement, Mr. Bronk worked at Kitsap Transit, Vitro Corp. in Silverdale, Naval Undersea Warfare Engineering Station Keyport and at Pan Am World Services at Bangor.
He was a member of Silverdale Baptist Church and had been a volunteer with Fire District 15 in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
He married
Sandra Brown on July 17, 1968, in Reno, Nev.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Elizabeth Allen of Bremerton; three brothers, Fred of California, Duane of Nebraska and Kenneth of Minnesota; and three grandsons, Jayson, Jeffrey and Ryan Allen, all of Bremerton. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marleen.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at Silverdale Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to Fire District 15, Meadowdale Fire Department, Old Military Road in Bremerton.
Patrick Morse
Patrick Griffith Morse, 77, of Bremerton died Oct. 5, 1999, at Ridgemont Terrace Assisted Living of cancer.
He was born March 9, 1922, in Bremerton to Hugh Clifford and Marjorie Dee (Griffith) Morse. He grew up in Bremerton, graduating from Bremerton High School in 1941.
He married
Betty Jean Vockrodt on Feb. 14, 1947, at Charleston Baptist Church in Bremerton.
Mr. Morse served in the Army Air Corps during World War II from September 1943 to May 1946. He was a sergeant, serving at Buckley Field, Colo.; in Kunming, China; in Burma; and in India.
He completed a four-year apprenticeship at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, becoming a journeyman machinist. He worked at PSNS for 36 years, retiring in 1977 as a supervisory production engineering technician.
He also was a Shaklee distributor and supervisor for more than 25 years. He was a member of the Independent Order of Foresters, the American Association of Retired Persons, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the American Legion, the Elks and 4-H.
Survivors include his wife; a son, David of Poulsbo; two daughters, Patricia Dickerson of Poulsbo and Melody Van Horn of Underwood; two brothers, Robert of Hansville and Daniel of Bremerton; and eight grandchildren, Josh and Kara Dickerson and Ryan and Leah Morse, all of Poulsbo, Christina Meeks of Yakima, Benjamin Van Horn of Pullman and Alexander and Forest Van Horn, both of Underwood. He was preceded in death by a brother, Hugh "Jack."
A memorial service is planned for 4 p.m. Saturday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home, followed by an open house at Mr. Morse's home.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Western Washington or to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle.
Clifford Odegard
Former Bremerton resident Clifford Odegard, 66, of Morton died Oct. 4, 1999, in Morton.
He was born Aug. 20, 1933, in Tacoma to Clifford and Edith Knutson. He grew up in Tacoma.
He married
Grace Keeley in Seattle in 1957.
Mr. Odegard served in the Navy from 1950 to 1954. He was stationed in Korea.
He worked as a shipfitter at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Shop 11 for 34 years. He retired in 1988.
Mr. Odegard was a member of the Fleet Reserve and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Jean of Morton, Lee Ann Kugler of Spanaway and Laureen Rene' of Port Orchard; a brother, Gary of Seattle; a sister, Norma Chaffey of California; and five grandchildren, Kyle Burroughs of the Navy in Everett, Eric Burroughs and Thorne Odegard, both of Morton, and Carli and Max Rene', both of Port Orchard.
Mildred Schauer
Mildred Lorraine Schauer, 79, of Federal Way and formerly of Port Orchard, died Oct. 6, 1999, in Federal Way of natural causes.
She was born July 18, 1920, in Eagle Point, Ore., to Byron Franklyn and Addie Laura (Cameron) DeFord. She grew up in Ashland, Ore.; Talent, Ore.; and Port Orchard. She attended high school in Talent and also at South Kitsap High School.
She married
James Wilbur "Wib" Schauer on Aug. 21, 1974, in Port Orchard. He preceded her in death Nov. 15, 1989.
Mrs. Schauer was a homemaker. She had been an evergreen worker in the floral industry.
She was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels for the Chuckwagon Senior Nutrition Program while residing at Village Green Apartments in Port Orchard.
Survivors include four sons, Richard of Kent, Gregory of Coos Bay, Ore., and James and Brad, both of Port Orchard; two daughters, Patricia Clay of Richmond Beach and Donna McBride of Monterey, Calif.; two brothers, Byron DeFord of Toledo and Gene DeFord of Olympia; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by two grandchildren.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to noon Saturday and from 9 a.m. until the funeral service at 1 p.m. Monday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. Interment
will take place at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard following the service.
Lisa Anderegg
Lisa Faye Anderegg, 76, of Bremerton died Oct. 3, 1999, at her home. She had been a resident of Kitsap County for many years.
She was born Jan. 5, 1923, in Salem, Ore., to Amon and Adeline (Anderegg) Shannon. She was raised and educated in Salem.
She was a registered nurse, receiving her degree from Seattle University.
She is survived by cousins.
Visitation will take place from 12:45 p.m. today until the funeral liturgy at
1:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bremerton. Entombment will take place at Hillcrest Mausoleum, Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Marion Hageland
Marion E. Hageland, 72, of Bremerton died of natural causes Oct. 5, 1999, in Bremerton.
She was born Jan. 17, 1927, in Hanaford, N.D., to Lee O. and Merle M. (Richardson) Harris. She grew up in Montana, graduating from Ringling High School in Ringling, Mont.
She worked as a housekeeper at the Masonic Temple in Bremerton from May 1979 until her retirement in June 1994. Previously, she had worked for Firestone and was a cook at the Grande Ranch.
She was a member of the Wakatiki Club, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary 3694 in Bremerton and the White Shrine 14 in Bremerton.
She married
Thorlief Hageland on Sept. 3, 1946, in Livingston, Mont., moving to Bremerton in 1951. He preceded her in death in 1998.
Survivors include a daughter, Tammy of Bremerton; a sister, Rachel Daniel of Bremerton; and her twin sister, Maryjean Finsrud of Bellingham. She was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Harris and a sister, Ione McLaughlin.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home, with a funeral service following at 2 p.m. Entombment will take place at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Robert Ranstead
Robert Roy Ranstead, 25, of Bremerton died Oct. 4, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Feb. 15, 1974, in Bremerton to Dennis and April (Heaton) Ranstead. He graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1992.
Mr. Ranstead was employed at the Fishing Hole in Port Orchard.
He was active in the Family Worship Center in Gorst, serving as sound director and youth group sound director.
Survivors include his parents; a brother, Timothy of Kirkland; a sister, Cindi Woods of Auburn; and his grandfather, Roy Heaton of Suquamish.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A funeral service is planned for 3 p.m. Saturday at the Family Worship Center, with burial following at Twin Firs cemetery in Belfair.

Mary Mouton
Mary Lucille Mouton, 77, of Bremerton died Oct. 3, 1999, at her home.
She was born Jan. 20, 1922, in Magnolia, Ark., to the Rev. Anthony and Maggie (Willingham) Modisett. She grew up in Wesson, Ark., graduating from Washington High School in Eldora, Ark., in 1940, and attending Arkansas Baptist College in Little Rock, Ark.
She married
E.J. Mouton in Bremerton in 1947. He preceded her in death in 1975.
Mrs. Mouton worked for the Federal Reserve Bank in Seattle for 22 years, retiring in 1990.
She was a member of Madrona Chapter 14 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall Grand Chapter, Cascade Assembly 46, the Order of the Golden Circle and Mount Zion Baptist Church and its affiliated organizations. She also was a blood bank volunteer for the Red Cross.
Survivors include a son, Jerome of Portland, Ore.; a daughter, Sharon Mouton-Sibley of Portland; a brother, Clem Modisett of Bremerton; two sisters, Thelma Modisett of Los Angeles and Susie Simmons of Bremerton; and four grandchildren, Eric Williams of Tacoma, Andre' Sisbach and Cherisse and Chantanay Harris, all of Portland.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A funeral service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday also at Miller-Woodlawn.
Bessie Cook
Bessie Cook, 99, of Poulsbo died of natural causes Oct. 4, 1999, at Martha & Mary Health Care Center.
She was born April 10, 1900, in Salt Lake City to Everett D. and Zilpha (Barrett) Burlingame. She grew up in Salt Lake City.
She married
Carnice Cook in Salt Lake City in 1928. He preceded her in death in 1969.
Mrs. Cook was a homemaker. She had been a member of the Order of Eastern Star for 72 years and the Daughters of the Nile.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Whittaker of Silverdale; two grandchildren, Brian Lamm of Virginia and David Lamm of Alaska; and two great-grandchildren.
Private services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
