'Buck' Buchanan
Robert E. "Buck" Buchanan, 69, of Kingston died Oct. 31, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Nov. 21, 1929, in Odessa to David and Rose (Harberson) Buchanan. He grew up in Davenport. He graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1948 and attended Pacific Lutheran University.
He married
Gloria J. Dixon on July 18, 1952, on Bainbridge Island.
Mr. Buchanan served in the Army from March 1951 to February 1953. He was a veteran of the Korean War.
After the war, he went to work with Pacific Marine (now Jensen Byrd) as a salesman in fishing tackle. He retired from Jensen Byrd after 38 years in 1991.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert "Bob" of Auburn; two daughters, Cheryl Baulig of Woodinville and Gail of Kingston; a sister, Joyce Olsen of Bainbridge Island; and seven grandchildren, Kelci Porter of Montana, Chrystal and Ryan, both of Kingston, Jason Porter of Woodinville, and Bobby, Chad and Kyle, all of Auburn. He was preceded in death by a son, David, in July 1997.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. today at Bayside Community Church in Kingston. Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, "The Stone Chapel."

Edmund DeMers
Edmund DeMers, 84, of Bremerton and formerly of Sioux City, Iowa, died Oct. 29, 1999, at his home.
He was born Oct. 2, 1915, in Jefferson, S.D.
Mr. DeMers served in the Navy during World War II.
He married
Gladys Etbauer. She preceded him in death.
Mr. DeMers owned a service station. He retired in 1980.
Survivors include two sisters, Blanche Bonar and Darlene Ament; and a brother, Gene.
Services are pending under the direction of Myer Brothers Funeral Home in Sioux City.

Vivian Lewis
Vivian Leone Lewis, 93, of Yakima died Oct. 29, 1999, in Poulsbo.
She was born Dec. 8, 1905, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. She grew up in Coeur d'Alene and in Yakima.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Vivian Ebersole of Poulsbo; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Her husband, Geoffrey S. Lewis, preceded her in death in 1965.
Inurnment will take place at Terrace Heights Memorial Park in Yakima.
Arrangements are under the direction of Kass Funeral Home on Bainbridge Island.
George Kaare
George Henry Kaare, 80, of Bainbridge Island and formerly of Trout Creek and White Pine, Mich., died Oct. 28, 1999, at Messenger House Care Center on Bainbridge Island.
He was born April 23, 1919, in Trout Creek to Finnish immigrants Henry J. and Maria Johanna Kaare. He graduated from Trout Creek High School and attended Suomi College in Houghton, Mich.
During World War II, Mr. Kaare served as a staff sergeant in the Army Air Corps with the 514th Fighter Squadron, 406th Fighter Group, in the European Theater.
He married
Irene S. Hietala on Sept. 1, 1950. She preceded him in death in 1993.
Mr. Kaare worked at the White Pine Copper Mine.
He was a Boy's State commissioner representing the Upper Peninsula in Michigan. He was active in the American Legion, serving as the fifth zone commander and chaplain.
He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Trinity Lutheran Church in Trout Creek and Faith Lutheran Church in White Pine.
Survivors include two sons, Joseph of Port Townsend and Patrick Winton of Centerville, Ohio; two daughters, Linda of Muskegon, Mich., and Patricia Winton of Marquette, Mich.; two sisters, Syma Poobus and Tyyne; a brother, John; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Elma Krym, and a brother, Arvo.
Visitation is scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Brown-Wandersee Funeral Home in Bruce Crossing, Mich., continuing an hour prior to the memorial service planned for 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Trout Creek. Interment
will take place at Agate cemetery.

Nial Jones
Nial Eugene Jones, 65, of Port Orchard died Oct. 31, 1999, at his home.
He was born March 3, 1934, in Crooksville, Ohio, to Denver and Okel (Wyatt) Jones. He attended high school in Bremerton.
Mr. Jones served in the Marine Corps from 1951 to 1954, stationed at Camp Lejeune with the Eighth Engineers. He received the National Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
He worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a welder in Shop 26 from 1961 until his retirement in 1991.
He married
Sue C. Snyder on April 6, 1964, in Lewiston, Idaho.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Douglas of Gainesville, Fla., and Darryl of Port Orchard; a daughter, Tamara Treick of Auburn, Wash.; a brother, Butch Duke of Bremerton; and a granddaughter, Nichole of Rogue River, Ore.
Visitation is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A funeral service is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday, also at Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Betty Bennett
Betty May Bennett, 65, of Port Orchard died Oct. 30, 1999, at Harrison Hospital in Bremerton.
She was born Jan. 17, 1934, in Pocatello, Idaho. She went to Bremerton High School.
She married
Larry Bennett in Bremerton on Dec. 24, 1957. He died in 1991.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her mother, Leona Stettler of Gorst; four daughters, Peggy Armbruster and Donna Bennett, both of Port Orchard, Susan Bennett of Bremerton and Diane Pearson of Poulsbo; a sister, Phyllis Hansen of Gorst; six grandchildren, Michael Armbruster, Tiffany and Raymond Pearson and Brittney, Troy and Travis Delgado; and a great-grandchild, Dylan Armbruster.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Olympic Lodge at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.

Mildred Langland
Mildred Elizabeth Ann Langland, 75, of Bremerton died Dec. 28, 1999, in Seattle.
She was born Sept. 17, 1924, in Seattle, to Elton and Sarah (Ray) Witt. She was raised and educated in Port Orchard, graduating from South Kitsap High School in 1942.
She was a homemaker and a member of both the Peninsula Pacers C.B. Club and the Eagles.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Timborski and Beth Felder of Bremerton; one stepson, Raenold Probst; one stepdaughter, Peggy Voland; one sister, Helen Bracomontes of Richland; and one granddaughter, Kathrine Gormanous. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Langland, in 1998, and by her husband, Jay Felder, in 1951.
Private family services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Jayson Poulsen
Former Bremerton resident Jayson Robert Poulsen, 22, of Spokane died Dec. 28, 1999, in Spokane from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
He was born May 26, 1977, in Bremerton, to Robert and Bonnie (Mann) Poulsen. He grew up in Bremerton, attending Central Kitsap schools.
He also lived in Texas. He graduated from Calallen High School in Corpus Cristi, Texas, in 1995.
At the time of his death, he worked for Kaiser Aluminum Company in Spokane.
Survivors include one son, Brennan of Spokane; his mother, Bonnie Fryar of Bremerton; his father of Utah; two brothers, Kenneth of Bremerton and Samuel Bailey of Washington; his maternal grandmother, Marilyn Mann of Bremerton and his paternal grandparents, Jay and Delma Poulsen of Chula Vista, Calif.
Visitation is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon Monday at Lewis Funeral Chapel, followed by a 1 p.m. memorial service. Inurnment will be at Forest Lawn cemetery.
George Brigham
George Martin Brigham, 52, of Bremerton died Dec. 24, 1999, in Silverdale.
He was born March 27, 1947, in Bremerton, to Gene and Vera (Schwarz) Brigham. He grew up in Bremerton, graduating from West Bremerton High School in 1965.
Mr. Brigham served in the Air Force from 1965 to 1969. He was stationed in Thailand for two years during the Vietnam era.
At the time of his death he was utilities maintenance supervisor at the Naval Undersea Warfare Engineering Station at Keyport.
Mr. Brigham was a member of the American Legion, the Food Service Board at Keyport and was a loan officer for the Kitsap County Public Employees Credit Union.
He married
Ann Shoemaker on Nov. 21, 1999, in Bremerton.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, David and Gary of Bremerton; one daughter, Kathryn Alexander of Bremerton; his mother, Vera Sutherland; his father and stepmother, Gene and Joyce Brigham; two brothers, Bob of Vacaville, Calif., and Darryl of Mesa, Ariz.; one sister, Laura Vandergiessen of Seattle; and one grandson, Roman Alexander-Brigham of Bremerton.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Tuesday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. An inurnment service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent.
