Irma Starring
Irma E. (Nelson) Starring, 83, of Port Orchard died Dec. 27, 1999, at her home of natural causes.
She was born June 2, 1916, in Glen Ullin, N.D., to Fredrick and Katherine (Weiss) Sayler. She grew up in Missoula, Mont.
She worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring after 17 years.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Elks and the Eagles.
Survivors include one son, Stanley Jewett Sr. of Las Vegas; one daughter, Virginia Mynatt of Port Orchard; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers, and two sisters.
A celebration of life is planned for 1 p.m. Wednesday at Miller-Woodlawn Chapel on the Hill.
Patricia Jones
Patricia Jean Jones, 68, of Poulsbo died of cancer on Dec. 26, 1999, in Poulsbo.
She was born July 13, 1931, in Goldendale to Robert and Mabel (Lindberg) McEwen. She grew up in Glendale.
Survivors include her companion, Raymond Wood of Poulsbo; four sons, Marcus of Spokane, Stan of Troy, Ala., K.C. of Bremerton and Richard of Poulsbo; one daughter, Eugenia of Poulsbo; and 10 grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Tuesday at Miller-Woodlawn Chapel on the Hill.
Clephane Turner
Clephane Gulliford Turner, 104, of Bainbridge Island died Nov. 27, 1999, at Island Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born to Jerome and Kate (McCullough) Gulliford on July 13, 1895, in Milton Freewater, Ore. She grew up in Echo, Ore., and graduated from the Good Samaritan School of Nursing in Portland, Ore., in 1921.
She married
Harry Turner in 1927. He preceded her in death in 1947.
Mrs. Turner moved to Seattle in 1934 with her husband. After her husband's death, she worked for Dr. Donald Erickson until her retirement at 76.
She is survived by her daughter, Jacki McKibben of Bainbridge Island; two grandchildren, Mark McKibben of Poulsbo and Beth McKibben of Palmer, Ark.; and two great-grandchildren, Keeley and Keanen.
Interment will be Thursday at Evergreen Washelli in Seattle. A celebration of her life will take place at her daughter's home at a later date.
Louise Rodstol
Louise E. Rodstol, 87, of Seattle died Dec. 27, 1999, at her home.
She was born to Augusta and Mary (Shoemaker) Maxwell March 14, 1912, in Eglon. She grew up in Harper.
She married
Laurence Rodstol on June 2, 1934, in Harper.
Mrs. Turner was a homemaker. She was a past member of Harper Evangelical Free Church in Port Orchard and attended Gatewood Baptist Church in Seattle for more than 50 years.
She is survived by her husband; one daughter, Linda Brice of Tacoma; two sisters, Phyllis Rowe of Harper and Mary Mulkey of Port Orchard; one granddaughter, Laura Wilhite of Roy; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service is planned for 11 a.m. Thursday at Harper Evangelical Free Church. Interment
will take place at Sedgwick cemetery in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Georgia Smelser
Georgia Kathryn Smelser, 98, of Bremerton died Dec. 26, 1999, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center.
She was born to Issac and Margaret (Cooper) Ready on Jan. 25, 1901, in Whiteside, Mo. She was educated in Spokane.
She married
Leon Smelser on Oct. 30, 1919, in Spokane. He preceded her in death in 1975.
Mrs. Smelser moved to Port Orchard with her husband in 1944. She moved to Bremerton in 1975.
She was a member of the Port Orchard and Kitsap Lake Homemakers clubs for many years, and she played piano at the churches she attended.
She is survived by her three daughters, Juanita Lyons of Arizona, Ruth McBride of Bremerton and Dorothy Andrews of Port Orchard; three sons, Walter of Port Orchard, Joseph of California and Herbert of Missouri.
A private graveside service will take place at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bremerton. Arrangements will be made by Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Francis Gavin
Francis J. Gavin, 81, of Bremerton died Dec. 24, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born on April 26, 1918, in Brooklyn, N.Y.
He married
Helen Marie Keller on July 19, 1952, in Brooklyn.
He worked as a shipfitter at the Brooklyn Navy Yard until it closed in 1965. He and his family moved to Bremerton that year and worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard until he retired in 1983.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 1379.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Christopher of Tacoma and Adam of Seattle; two daughters, Loretta of Seattle and Martha of Bainbridge Island; one brother, John of New York; three sisters, May, Helen and Joan, all of New York; and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral service is planned for 11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Frenchy Francoeur
Laurance "Frenchy" Francoeur, 86, of Bremerton, died Dec. 25, 1999, at his home.
He was born Aug. 30, 1913, in Ishpeming, Mich., to Edward and Delina (Nault) Francoeur. He attended Ishpeming High School.
He married
Lillian Christensen on May 21, 1937, in Ishpeming. She preceded him in death in 1996.
Mr. Francoeur was a firefighter with the Bremerton Fire Department, retiring as a lieutenant in 1970 after 23 years of service. He also was an independent contractor and builder for over 50 years.
He was a past member of the Eagles and the National Rifle Association. He had been a member of Retired Firefighters of Washington and a 53-year member of the Wynoochee Hunters' Association.
Survivors include one son, Don of Bremerton; two daughters, Diane Paget of Olympia and Lauren Stodden of Bremerton; nine grandchildren, Christiane, John, Maribeth, Paul, Josh, Melody, Marcie, Brock and Jessica; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Woodlawn Chapel on the Hill. A reception will follow at the family home.

Philip Boettiger
Philip Erwin Boettiger, 66, of Port Orchard died Dec. 18, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born to Erwin and Clara (Uland) Boettiger on July 22, 1933, in Bremerton. He graduated from high school in Bremerton.
He married
Maryann Rowland on July 26, 1953, in Bremerton.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Cynthia Gates and Debbie Nichols, both of Medford, Ore., and Joyce Orchard of Maple Valley; one sister, Janet Murphy of Reno, Nev.; and three grandchildren, Anthony Gates of Juneau, Alaska, Michael Nichols of of Kent and Jesse Orchard of Hawaii.
A memorial service will be held at 7 tonight in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Tuell-McKee Funeral Home.
E. Wayne Clark
E. Wayne Clark, 81, of Bremerton, died Dec. 23, 1999, in Bremerton.
He was born May 31, 1918, in Wilcox, Neb., to Enos and Mina (Marcusson) Clark. He grew up in Bremerton, attending Bremerton High School and graduating from high school in Nebraska.
Mr. Clark served in the Navy from 1939 to 1946. He saw duty onboard USS Saratoga, USS Bell and USS Barton. He survived the sinking of USS Barton in Guadalcanal.
He married
Ferne Holland in January 1946 in Oakland, Calif. She preceded him in death in 1982.
He worked as a pipefitter at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 32 years, retiring in 1973. He also owned and operated Clark Plumbing until 1978.
He married
Jewell (Tenge) Sollie on July 30, 1987, on Camano Island.
Mr. Clark was a member of the Sons of Norway Oslo Lodge 35, the Elks 1181, the Kitsap Rifle and Revolver Club, the Studebaker Driver's Club, the USS Bell Association and the USS Saratoga Association. He was a past member of First Methodist Church in Port Orchard.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mark of Massachusetts and Wayne of North Bend; two daughters, Patricia Weagant and Jill Rake, both of Poulsbo; two stepdaughters, Yvonne Kerstad of Bremerton and Sonja Sollie of Redmond; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Miller-Woodlawn Chapel on the Hill, followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. Entombment will take place at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Louis Ostoyich
Louis S. Ostoyich, 73, a 37-year resident of the Gig Harbor/Olalla area, died Dec. 22, 1999 in Tacoma.
He was born Aug. 11, 1926, in Tacoma.
Mr. Ostoyich served in the Army during World War II.
He worked as a cook on ocean-going vessels. He was a member of the Inland Boatman Union of the Pacific and the Croatian Fraternal Union.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth; one son, Mike of Gig Harbor; one stepson, Kenneth Hordern of Kent; one stepdaughter, Kathie Broderson of Gig Harbor; one sister, Elsie Allen of Gig Harbor; and eight grandchildren.
A funeral service is planned for 11:30 a.m. Friday at Haven of Rest Funeral Home in Gig Harbor. Interment
will take place at Haven of Rest Memorial Park.
