Elmer Dodge Jr.
Elmer L. Dodge Jr., 73, of Port Orchard died Dec. 19, 1999, at his home.
He was born Aug. 2, 1926, in Smethport, Pa. He was raised and educated in Smethport, graduating from high school in 1944.
Mr. Dodge served in the Navy from 1944 to May 1976, retiring as a lieutenant. He saw duty on USS Lexington and participated in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
Following his retirement from the Navy, he worked in New Mexico. He moved to Kitsap County in 1988, working at the Manchester Fuel Depot.
He married
Katherine Berry on Aug. 22, 1969, in Evanston, Wyo.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Dale of Montana; two daughters, Kay of New Mexico and Jana Rae of Tacoma; two brothers, Melvin of Montana and Milton of Pennsylvania; one sister, Vera of California; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A graveside service is planned for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent, with a memorial service following at 2 p.m. at Bible Baptist Church in Port Orchard.

Joyce Dalrymple
Joyce Dalrymple, 75, of Port Orchard died Dec. 19, 1999, at Belmont Terrace Nursing Home.
She was born Aug. 6, 1924, in Manchester, England, to George and Mary Adams. She was raised and educated in England, and joined the English Women's Army during World War II.
She married
S.C. Dalrymple in England in 1945. They lived in Texas after their marriage and moved to Long Beach, Calif., in 1953. Mrs. Dalrymple had lived in Kitsap County for the past four years, and was a homemaker.
She is survived by a son, Stephen of Bremerton; and four grandchildren. Her husband and another son, Kevin, preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Lewis Funeral Chapel in Bremerton. Burial will be at Forest Lawn cemetery in Cypress, Calif.
Walter H. Lawson
Walter H. Lawson, 92, of Bremerton died Dec. 20, 1999, at his home.
He was born July 4, 1907, in Worcester, Mass., to Samuel and Sarah (Tedford) Lawson.
He married
his wife, Alice, on Sept. 16, 1930, in Bremerton.
Mr. Lawson served in the Navy from 1926 to 1936, helping to put USS Louisville into commission at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He also served on the battleship USS Arizona. His most recent job was as a machinist at Todd Pacific Shipyard.
He was a member of the East Bremerton Masons and attended Trinity Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Chris McIntyre and Kay Adams, both of Bremerton; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Jan. 8 at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 1600 NE Winters Road in Bremerton.
Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bremerton.
Shari Simmons-Marshall
Shari K. Simmons-Marshall, 42, of Port Orchard died Dec. 19, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Jan. 27, 1957, in Lansing, Mich., to Beeman and Elaine (Parkes) Simmons. She grew up in Gaylord, Mich.
She married
Thomas Marshall on Dec. 27, 1994.
Mrs. Simmons-Marshall worked at Indian Health Services in Arizona, Nevada and Montana; Otsgeo Memorial Hospital in Gaylord.; and Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup.
Survivors include her husband; her mother; two sisters, Stacie Simmons-Bates of Port Orchard and Susan Systma of Grand Rapids, Mich; two nieces; and one nephew.
A memorial service will be conducted at the International Order of Odd Fellows Hall in Bremerton at 2 p.m. Sunday.

CW VanKeuren
Carroll Wayne "CW" VanKeuren, 86, of Kingston died Dec. 18, 1999.
He was born June 30, 1913, in Kingston to Charles and Mabel (Garl) VanKeuren.
He married
his wife, Betty Jo, on Oct. 16, 1969, in Yakima. She preceded his death in 1982.
Mr. VanKeuren was a logger and carpenter for most of his life. He worked for a short time in a cannery in Ketchikan, Alaska, during the early 1940s and loaded ammunition at Naval Submarine Base Bangor in the 1970s. He was one of the few left of the old pioneers of Kingston and best known as the "Old Dutchman."
Survivors include his son, David of Kingston; three brothers, Cecil of Kingston, Stan of Poulsbo and Lynn of Mossey Rock; and two sisters, Marie Day and Claire Rassmussen, both of Bainbridge Island. He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Vivian and Bonita, and four brothers, Harold, Donald, Roland and Lyle.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Kingston cemetery. Arrangements are by Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 718 Lebo Blvd., Bremerton, WA 98310.
Lorraine Olson
Former Bremerton resident Lorraine B. Olson, 79, of El Cajon, Calif., died Dec. 16, 1999, at her home.
She was born May 20, 1920, in Bremerton to John and Margaret (Taylor) Braendlein. She grew up in Bremerton.
She married
James Olson in 1940. He preceded her in death in 1998.
Mrs. Olson worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard during World War II and later became a homemaker.
She had been a resident of San Diego County for the past 26 years.
Survivors include two sisters, Maxine Funk of Bremerton and Barbara Small of Woodburn, Ore.; two sons, Chris of El Cajon and Tim of Bremerton; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be Thursday in El Cajon.

Jose Lustan
Jose Millares Lustan, 68, of Port Orchard died Dec. 18, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born March 5, 1931, in Daraga, Albay, Philippines, to Fabian and Dominga (Millares) Lustan. He grew up in the Philippines, graduating from University of the Philippines High School in Quezon City and attending San Francisco State College.
Mr. Lustan served in the Navy from 1961 to 1965.
In San Francisco, he worked at Hunter's Point Naval Shipyard from 1966 to 1973, and one year with the U.S. Postal Service.
Mr. Lustan was an electrician at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1993 after 31 years of service.
He married
Rosario Ramos on June 8, 1980, in Bremerton.
He was a member of the Filipino-American Community of Kitsap County, Stedfast Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard and the Elks 1181.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Jose of Richmond, Calif.; two stepsons, Alan and Edwin Marcella, both of Port Orchard; two daughters, Helene of Port Orchard and Maria Ruiz of Richmond; two stepdaughters, Lani Marcella Rafanan of Auburn and Susan Marcella Walkup of Renton; one brother, Ben of San Francisco; one sister, Remy Pitts of Boulder, Colo.; and grandchildren.
A rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Gabriel Catholic Church. Interment
will be at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent.
Jack Bredeson Sr.
Jack Bredeson Sr., 75, of Tacoma died Dec. 17, 1999, in Tacoma.
Mr. Bredeson was born Aug. 23, 1924, in Tacoma. He graduated from Bremerton High School.
He served in the Navy for two years during World War II, stationed in the Philippines.
Mr. Bredeson completed a machinist apprenticeship at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He worked at PSNS for 38 years, retiring in 1979, as a planner/estimator in Shop 38.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Grace; six sons, Brad, Jack, Jerry, Ron, Tom and Curt; four brothers; one sister; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 3 p.m. Wednesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fircrest.

Minnie Lohse
Minnie Alvira Lohse, 100, of Bremerton died Dec. 19, 1999, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center.
She was born May 25, 1899, in Park River, N.D., to John and Mary (Merriam) Harris. She was educated in North Dakota and lived on a farm there.
She married
Henry Lohse in 1918 in Washington, D.C. He preceded her in death in June 1972.
Mrs. Lohse had been a homemaker.
Survivors include one son, Marvin of Auburn; three daughters, Helen Novak of Bremerton, Donna Riley of Chunchula, Ala., and Joyce Hunziker of Oceanside, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are by Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Pauline Peterson
Pauline Gladys Peterson, 92, of Port Orchard died at Port Orchard Care Center on Dec. 17, 1999.
She was born in Tacoma on Jan. 23, 1907, to Carl and Gladys (Elsom) Fein.
She attended Stadium High School and graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in 1926. She worked for 30 years as a registered nurse at various local hospitals, then for 15 years as a cook for South Kitsap schools.
She was a member of the Pythian Sisters in Port Orchard, Port Orchard Christian Church, Givens Senior Center and Children's Hospital Guild of Seattle.
She married
Arvid Peterson on May 21, 1927, in Olalla. He died in 1982.
She is survived by a son, Alan of Southworth; a daughter, Arleene Lynch of Prairie City, Ore.; four grandchildren, Kristine Metcalf of Mission Viejo, Calif., Marta Shardelman of Phoenix, Ariz., Kenrik Lynch of Gresham, Ore., and Kyle Peterson of Kirkland; and two great-grandchildren. Two brothers preceded her in death.
A funeral service is planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard. Interment
will be at Sunset Lane cemetery. Arrangements are by Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
