Patricia Bocanegra
Patricia Laverne Bocanegra, 71, of Poulsbo died Nov. 30, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Oct. 26, 1928, in Port Angeles to Howard and Georgia (Hodgdon) Hillman. She graduated from Port Angeles High School in 1946.
She worked for the superior courts of Pierce County as a jury administrator. She was retired.
Survivors include three sons, Karl Struble and Lito Bocanegra, both of Bremerton, and Kris Struble of Las Vegas; three daughters, Kim Hogansen of Sumner, Tabitha Watson of Poulsbo and Valentina Diaz of Tacoma; 18 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Dec. 11 at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Cremation is under the direction of Cherry Grove Memorial Park.

Inez Kirsch
Former Harper resident Inez May Kirsch, 88, of Seattle died Nov. 30, 1999, at Swedish Medical Center in Ballard.
She was born April 7, 1911, in Harper to Kenneth and Jauquina (Walsh) Newell. She grew up in Harper, graduating from Vashon High School on Vashon Island.
She married Ernest Kirsch on July 27, 1935, in Harper. He preceded her in death in 1957. Mrs. Kirsch moved to Seattle in 1961.
She was a homemaker and crafts person, having also worked in foster care.
Mrs. Kirsch was a member of South Colby United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Fred of Seattle; two daughters, Nancy Converse of Gold Bar and Gretchen of Seattle; a brother, Morrie Newell of Seattle; a sister, Jessie Swan of Port Orchard; five grandchildren, Phil Sunken, Patty Schoeneberg, Kellee Ellis, Bryan Bowlby and Brad Bowlby; numerous great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
A funeral service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at Pendlenton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. Interment icon will take place at Sedgwick cemetery in Port Orchard.

Bette Culver
Bette Jane Culver, 75, of Poulsbo died Nov. 30, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Dec. 8, 1923, in Monroe, Iowa, to Harold and Bertha (Merritt) Wittmer. She grew up in Monroe, graduating from Monroe High School in 1941, and receiving a teaching degree from Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, in 1942.
She married Orion E. Culver on Jan. 25, 1947, in Marshall Town, Iowa.
From 1942 to 1947, she taught fifth and sixth grade in Baxter, Iowa. In the fall of 1947, she and her husband moved to Bremerton.
Mrs. Culver worked for two years at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, until her family was sent to Midway Island in the fall of 1954, because of her husband's military service. On Midway Island, she taught first and second grade.
In 1957, the family returned to Poulsbo. Mrs. Culver worked as a payroll technician at the Naval Submarine Base at Bangor, retiring in 1983, after 20 years.
She was a member of the Sons of Norway, Ladies of Elk in Bremerton and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Chapter 881 in Poulsbo.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Carla Barnes of Bellevue; two sisters, Perquilla Callaghan of San Francisco and Berta Van Ekeren of Monroe, Iowa; and two grandchildren, Marcus and Peter Barnes, both of Bellevue.
A graveside service is planned for 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Cherry Grove Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, P.O. Box 19024, LY-120, Seattle, WA 98109-1024.

John Schlecht
John Schlecht, 86, of Poulsbo died Nov. 29, 1999, in Silverdale.
He was born July 23, 1913, in Baker, Mont., to Gottlieb and Christina (Kienzle) Schlecht. He was raised and educated in Baker.
Mr. Schlecht served in the Army at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii, from December 1937 to June 1940.
He married Adele G. Rost on July 6, 1941, in Baker.
Mr. Schlecht was a manager for Framer's Union Station in Ollie, Mont., from 1941 to 1943, when he and his wife moved to Baker. He then worked for the county as a patrol operator, building and grading roads. In 1956, he worked for Baker Furniture as a TV, radio and appliance repairman.
In 1962, Mr. Schlecht and his family moved to Poulsbo. He was employed by The Boeing Co. for two years, then went to work for Stetson Ross in Seattle, in 1964, as a welder.
He began working for North Kitsap Sand and Gravel in 1968, mixing asphalt, crushing rock and welding. He retired in 1978.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sharon Hibler of Troy, Idaho, and Patricia of Brier; three grandchildren, Robert Hibler III of Kent, Sondra Hibler of Beaverton, Ore. and Matthew Hibler of Troy; and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Kline of Spokane, on Oct. 30 of this year.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Friday at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel. Inurnment will take place at Forest Lawn cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Andy Andrews
Robert Lee "Andy" Andrews, 68, of Belfair died Nov. 30, 1999, in Tacoma.
He was born Dec. 6, 1930, in Sumner.
Survivors include his wife, Gertrude; two sons, David and Paul; one brother, Bill; one sister, Alice Heier; and four grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of Tuell-McKee Funeral Home.

Carolina McDaniel
Carolina McDaniel, 83, of Bremerton died Nov. 30, 1999, in Bremerton.
She was born Sept. 5, 1916, in Paul, Idaho, to George and Anna (Rommel) Maling. She grew up in Sunnyside.
She married John I. McDaniel on Feb. 1, 1947, in Port Orchard.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Sandra Fournier of Simi Valley, Calif., and Pamela Hollinshead of Bremerton; one granddaughter, Victoria Billington of Bremerton; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment icon will take place at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Furn Wright
Furn Lillian Wright, 92, of Port Orchard died Nov. 30, 1999, at Ridgemont Terrace.
She was born July 14, 1907, in Pittsburg, Kan., to Otis and Grace Schuler. She grew up in Pittsburg and in Lamar, Mo.
Her husband, Clifford L. Wright, preceded her in death in 1965.
Survivors include two sons, Robert and Clifford, both of Port Orchard; two daughters, Betty Jo Hibbard of Oroville, Calif., and Norma Jean Line of Tenino; one sister, Frances Lowe of Phoenix; eight grandchildren, Robert of Spokane, Theresa Baker of Bremerton, Kevin and Bill Hibbard, both of Oroville, Curt Greer of Des Moines, Iowa, and Preston Greer, Duane Greer and James, all of Port Orchard; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ollie Mae Schuler, of Pittsburg and by a brother, William Schuler, of Los Angeles.
A graveside service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Cowlitz View Gardens in Kelso. Arrangements are under the direction of Tuell-McKee Funeral Home of Bremerton.

Verna Montell
Verna Jean Montell, 52, of Bremerton died Nov. 24, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Jan. 10, 1947, in Portland, Ore., to Vernon and Lorraine (Lemay) Enyeart.
She married James R. Montell on July 3, 1978, in San Diego.
Survivors include her husband; five sons, Ronald, Robert, Marion and Vernon Fossum and Robert Montell; and five daughters, Yvette Brown, Deborah McVeigh, and Tammy, Regina and Kimberly Montell; one brother, Donald Enyeart; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of Kitsap Cremation and Burial Society.

John Myers
Former Gorst resident John Russel Myers, 88, of Rock Springs, Wyo., died Nov. 1, 1999, at his home following a lengthy illness.
He was born July 11, 1911, in Van, Pa., to Ora and Sarah (Hetzler) Myers. He graduated from high school in Pennsylvania.
He married Margaret Kathryn Brower in 1944 in Cheraw, S.C. She preceded him in death July 18, 1964.
Mr. Myers came to Rock Springs from Pennsylvania in 1929, working for Mountain Fuel Supply Co. for 29 years. He was self-employed for a couple of years, then went to work for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1983 as a master pipefitter.
He was a veteran of World War II and a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include three sons, Russ of Denver and Taylor and John, both of Rock Springs; three daughters, Wendy Gaeris of Saltese, Mont., Vicki Freeman of Rock Springs and Sheila Schultz of San Jose, Calif.; two brothers, Solomon of Salt Lake City and Orie of Roseville, Calif.; two sisters, Joy Morgan of St. Petersburg, Pa. and Martha Fetzner of Erie, Pa.; and several grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by two sons, Steve and Tim.
A memorial service were held Nov. 4 at Samuel-Fox Funeral Home in Rock Springs. Inurnment took place at Rock Springs Municipal cemetery.

Dessie Bailey
Dessie Lola Bailey, 81, of Bremerton died Nov. 28, 1999, at Bremerton Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Aug. 7, 1918, in Burlington, Colo., to Henry M. and Sarah E. (Panzer) Bassette. She was raised and educated in Burlington.
She lived in Las Vegas from the age of 18 until 1995.
She married Elbert B. Bailey in Las Vegas. He preceded her in death in 1993.
While living in Nevada, she and a friend, both parents of mentally retarded children, sought out other parents of mentally retarded children in an effort to establish a support group that became the Clark County Association for Retarded Citizens. The association served as a model for other state organizations serving the mentally retarded.
Mrs. Bailey was honored by the state of Nevada and nationally for her work. A wing of the Variety School in Las Vegas bears her name.
She also was a member of the Emblem Club and the Las Vegas Old-timers.
Survivors include one son, Patrick of Bremerton; one daughter, Claudia of Port Orchard; two grandchildren, Andrea Brillhart of Poulsbo and Tim of Bremerton; and two great-grandsons.
Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to Clark County Association for Retarded Citizens in Las Vegas.
