Ardelle Broderson
Ardelle Gayle Broderson, 62, of Port Orchard died Jan. 21, 2000, at her home.
She was born April 1, 1937, in Donny Brook, N.D., to Samuel Blackwood and Hannah Cross.
She married
Harvey Broderson on Oct. 16, 1963. He preceded her in death in 1978.
Survivors include three sons, Rick of Sekiu, Kenneth Bjorkheim of Tacoma and Jeff of Gig Harbor; three daughters, Debbie Bjorkheim Geary and Leone Broderson Dillon, both of Port Orchard, and Carolyn Bjorkheim Johanns of Belfair; five sisters, Elizebeth Trueman of Bremerton, Hazel Rostad of Minot, N.D., Florence Carlson of Great Falls, Mont., Helen Powers of Kansas City, Kan., and Myrtle Kurlmski of Luvilia, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, Dawn, Elliot, Angie, Gabrial, Melonie, Ryan, Erin, DonAlyn, Alden, Mary, Abbie and Jason; and four great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by two daughters, Rhonda Lee Bjorkheim and Marilyn Walston; and by a brother, Aurther Blackwood.
Visitation is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel on the Hill. A funeral service is planned for 3 p.m. Saturday, also at Miller-Woodlawn.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Margaret Plant
Margaret M. Plant, 89, of Port Orchard died Jan. 25, 2000, at The Cisney Elderly Group.
She was born June 21, 1910, in Tacoma to Joseph and Clementina Rossi. She grew up in Elgin, graduating from Gig Harbor Union High School.
She married
Robert Plant in 1932 on Vashon Island. He preceded her in death in 1981.
Mrs. Plant was a homemaker for most of her life. During World War II, she worked at Brown's Drug Store in Bremerton.
She was a member of the Lady Eagles and had attended Gorst Baptist Community Church.
She is survived by a sister, Katherine Stoner of Port Orchard; and nine nieces and nephews.
A funeral service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Interment
will take place at Forest Lawn cemetery.
Loretta Esser
Loretta A. Esser, 84, of Bremerton died Jan. 24, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Aug. 4, 1915, in Nekoosa, Wis., to John and Annie (Milkia) VanRuth. She grew up in Nekoosa.
She married
Edward Esser on Sept. 11, 1931, in Nekoosa. He preceded her in death in 1982.
She owned and operated Esser's Grocery Store on Sylvan Way in Bremerton from 1952 until her retirement in 1984.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry of Shelton and Gordy of Bremerton; two brothers, Don VanRuth of Bremerton and Arthur VanRuth of Middleton, Wis.; two sisters, Bertha Behm and Florence Roach, both of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.; seven grandchildren, Jerry of Kent, Scott of Hilo, Hawaii, Felicia of Shelton, Cheri Serphin of Bothell, Rebecca of Belfair, and Pam and Terie, both of Bremerton; and seven great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Leonard, Wilford and Chester VanRuth; and by a sister, Margaret Houston.
Visitation is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Interment
will take place at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Michelle Maki-Reese
Michelle Delee Maki-Reese, 44, of Bainbridge Island died Jan. 24, 2000, in Kingston.
She was born Nov. 6, 1955, in Tacoma to Robert and Kay (Boden) Dilger. She grew up in Kingston, graduating from North Kitsap High School in 1974.
She married
William Reese on Bainbridge Island.
She had worked at Poulsbo Market Place (Thriftway) for 18 years.
Survivors include her husband; her parents, now of Gig Harbor; one son, Daniel Maki of Poulsbo; and one sister, Cherie Rogers of Bainbridge Island.
A graveside service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Kingston cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 3:30 p.m. at Kingston Christian Church. Arrangements are by Kass Funeral Home.
Bill McFarland
Raymond Lewis "Bill" McFarland, 80, of Bremerton died Jan. 25, 2000.
He was born March 6, 1919, in Hermosa, S.D., to Lewis and Ann McFarland. He grew up in South Dakota.
Mr. McFarland served in the Air Force from 1942 to 1945.
He married
Elizabeth "Elsie" Lutols on Feb. 6, 1944, in South Dakota.
He was employed in public works at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 34 years, retiring as a supervisor in Public Works 07 in 1975.
He was a member of the Elks, the Eagles and the American Legion.
Survivors include one son, Raymond Jr. of Quilcene; one daughter, Elaine Powell of Bremerton; one sister, Elsie Johnston of Idaho; and three grandchildren, Angelia, Tyson and Lindsey. He was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and one grandson, Tomy.
A funeral service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, with a reception following, at Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Alice Porter
Alice V. Porter, 86, of Tracyton died Jan. 24, 2000, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center.
She was born Aug. 15, 1913, in Vernal, Utah, to James and Kathleen Smith. She was raised in Colona, Colo., where she graduated from Ridgeway High School in 1931.
She married
Orville Porter in 1936 in Yuma, Ariz. He preceded her in death in 1996.
She moved to Bremerton in 1952, working as a credit clerk for Montgomery-Ward and then for Lents Oil Co. She retired in 1975 after working for Lents for 20 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Dixie Carter of South Colby and Kay Kono of Tracyton; one sister, Phyllis Daniel of Keystone Heights, Fla.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a grandson, Mike Carter.
Private family interment will be held at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are by Lewis Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be made to Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue.
L. Marie McFarland
L. Marie McFarland, 80, of Bremerton died Jan 23, 2000, at Bremerton Convalescent and Rehabilitation.
She was born July 12, 1919, in York, Neb., to Wilbert and Eathel (Bailey) Sands. She grew up in Nebraska and graduated from Grant High School in Grant, Neb.
She lived in Nebraska, California, Arizona, Texas, Oregon and elsewhere in Washington, moving to Bremerton in 1989. Mrs. McFarland was a member of Bremerton Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include a daughter, Joan of Bremerton; a grandson, Michael of Anchorage, Alaska; a granddaughter, Christine of Bremerton; and two brothers, Delbert of Springfield, Ore., and Kenneth of Portland, Ore. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell, and by a sister, Marjorie.
A memorial service will be at a later date.
Esther Erickson
Esther Johnsen Erickson, 98, of Bremerton died Jan. 23, 2000, at Ashley Gardens Adult Care Home in Bremerton.
She was born May 13, 1901, in Kilvaer, Norway, to Alfred and Anne (Andersen) Johnsen. She graduated from high school on Vashon Island and received a teaching certificate from Ellensburg Normal School (now Central Washington University).
She married
Fred Erickson in Tacoma. He preceded her in death in 1965.
Mrs. Erickson worked as a bookkeeper at an oil distribution firm, Lawrence and Macon Fuel Company, retiring when she was 65. She was a member of the Teamsters Union.
Survivors include two daughters, Willoma Stout of Spokane and Emma Iulo of Bainbridge Island; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A graveside service is at 11 a.m. today at Fern Hill cemetery in Aberdeen. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Phillip Galt
Phillip A. Galt, 66, of Bremerton died Jan. 18, 2000, in Bremerton.
He was born Dec. 17, 1933, in Seattle, and was a lifelong resident of the Puget Sound area. He moved to Bremerton after his graduation from the University of Washington in 1956. He served two years in the Army, then was employed by Sears for 38 years in Bremerton and Seattle. He retired in 1994.
He was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Elks and Lions.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Vera of the family home; a brother, Victor of Annandale, Va.; a daughter, Karen Parker of Bellevue; a son, Ted of Bremerton; and two grandchildren.
A funeral service was Jan. 21 at St. Spiridon Russian Orthodox Church in Seattle. Burial is at Evergreen-Washelli cemetery.
JoAnna Sinnett
JoAnna Sinnett, 78, of Bainbridge Island died Jan. 20, 2000, at Lynnwood Manor in Lynnwood.
She was born June 4, 1921, in Scobey, Mont., to Julius and Anna (Kindzerski) Severt. She grew up in Daniels County, Mont., graduating from Daniels County High School, from Northern Montana College and from Providence School of Nursing in Seattle.
She married
Joe Sinnett on Bainbridge Island in 1947. He preceded her in death in 1991.
She worked as a registered nurse at Messenger House and at Lynwood Sanitarium, both on Bainbridge Island.
Survivors include five sons, Bill of Bellingham, Dave of Silverdale, John of Cashmere and Mike and Rob, both of Bainbridge Island; a daughter, Cindy Irwin of Mukilteo; a brother, John Severt of Bainbridge Island; and 10 grandchildren.
A funeral service is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday at Port Madison Lutheran Church on Bainbridge Island. Arrangements are by Kass Funeral Home.

Marie Hansen
Marie Hansen, 81, of Port Orchard died Jan. 22, 2000, at Cottesmore of Life in Gig Harbor of natural causes.
She was born April 19, 1918, in Chicago to Godfred and Selma (Bengston) Ryberg. She grew up in Chicago, graduating from Roger Sullivan High School there in 1938. She attended Naperville College in Naperville, Ill. and Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Ill.
She married
Earl Hansen on Sept. 7, 1940, in Chicago. He preceded her in death in 1990.
Mrs. Hansen taught kindergarten in Wauconda, Ill., for 15 years and had also been a teacher's aide there. She was retired.
She had been a member of the Wauconda Federated Church, where she taught Sunday school and participated in the Evening Guild. She had also been active in 4-H and Brownie Girl Scouts.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Aslan of Cleveland, Ohio, and Sandra McMillian of Port Orchard; two brothers, Ralph Ryberg of Janesville, Wis., and Roy Ryberg of Charlotte, N.C.; five grandchildren, David and Donna Vazquez and Michael, Mark and Justin McMillian; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Godfred, and a sister, Hilda Ireland.
Interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Evergreen cemetery in Charlotte. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Hazel Young
Hazel A. Young, 79, of Port Orchard died Jan. 19, 2000, in Bremerton of natural causes.
She was born Jan. 30, 1920, in Andover, N.H., to Wallace and Anna (Champeny) Lowell. She grew up in Salisbury, N.H. She attended Wellesley College in Wellesley, Mass.
She worked as a cashiering manager in retail sales. She was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Sewing Bee Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Crandall of Port Orchard; two brothers, Aljer of Bremerton and Robert of Epsom, N.H.; a sister, Dot Kimball of Plymouth, N.H.; four grandchildren, Crystal Wells of Washington and Robert Young Jr., Terry Prescott and Brandon Young, all of New Hampshire; and one great-grandchild.
A family gathering was on Jan. 22 at the home of Linda and Dale Crandall in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
