Frank V. Christen
Frank V. Christen, 86, of Port Orchard died Jan. 20, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
Born Aug. 10, 1913, in Rockford, Ill., he grew up in Omaha, Neb., and attended schools there.
He was a welder at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 30 years, retiring in 1971. He also worked with his son-in-law in construction for Blue Cascade Construction.
He married
Virginia Evarra on Sept. 24, 1938, in Papillion, Neb.
He is survived by a son, Frank Jr. of Port Orchard; two daughters, Gloria Anderson and Marguerite Childres, both of Port Orchard; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1992 and by two brothers and one sister.
Graveside services and interment are planned for 11 a.m. Jan. 25 at Sunset Lane cemetery, Port Orchard. Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel, Port Orchard, is handling arrangements.
Phillip Galt
Phillip A. Galt, 66, of Bremerton died Jan. 18, 2000, in Seattle.
He was born Dec. 17, 1933, in Seattle and was a lifelong resident of the Puget Sound area. He moved to Bremerton after his graduation from the University of Washington in 1956. He served three years in the Army, then was employed at Sears for 38 years in Bremerton and Seattle. He retired in 1994.
He was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Elks and Lions.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Vera of the family home; brother Victor Galt of Annandale, Va.; a daughter, Karen Clair Parker of Bellevue; a son, Ted Galt of Bremerton; and two grandchildren.
Services will be today at 10 a.m. at St. Spiridon Russian Orthodox Church in Seattle. Burial will follow at Evergreen-Washelli cemetery.
Jac A. Douglas
Jac A. Douglas, 84, of Port Orchard died of a heart attack Jan. 15, 2000, at Harrison Hospital in Bremerton.
He was born in Lincoln, Neb., on July 14, 1915, to Charles and Mary (O'Grady) Douglas. He was raised in Billings, Mont.
Mr. Douglas served in the Army from 1942 to 1945, serving in Europe during World War II. He married
Ruth Scanland in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on Jan. 11, 1949.
He worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 30 years, retiring as a transportation foreman in 1969.
Survivors include his wife, of Port Orchard; three daughters, Lynn Cordes, Ann Fisher and Margaret Metroz, all of Port Orchard; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael, in 1997; and by his sister, Charlotte Warn of Port Townsend.
No services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Billie T. Johnson
Billie T. Johnson, 55, of Kingston, died at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on Jan. 17, 2000, as the result of an automobile accident.
He was born Sept. 7, 1944, in Walla Walla to Frank and Ilene Johnson. Mr. Johnson served in the Marines and afterward was a general contractor. He also was ordained as a pentecostal minister who served as a missionary in South Africa and was a pastor in Woodinville.
He moved to Kingston seven years ago, and has been active in the community as a property developer and rental owner, and at the time of his death was traveling to an architectural meeting.
He married
Gayle Alberthal in Seattle in 1965.
Survivors include his wife, of the family home; a son, Kurtis of Everett; a daughter, Kimberly L. Jones of Kingston; a sister, Lucie Harter of Olympia; and four grandchildren, Ashley and Nolan Johnson of Everett and Miche and Maia Jones of Kingston.
Memorial services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Westgate Chapel, 22901 Edmonds Way, Edmonds. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. at Floral Hills cemetery, 409 Filbert Road, Lynnwood.
Donations may be made in his memory to Bayside Community Church, P.O. Box 250, Kingston, WA 98346 to benefit 3-year-old cancer patient Mandy Demmert.
Margaret Helen Refvik
Margaret Helen Refvik, 85, of Bremerton, died Jan. 18, 2000, in Bremerton.
She was born May 9, 1914, in Seattle to Carl Frederick and Paula Rose (Hafner) Hennicke. She attended elementary school in Seabeck and attended high school in Silverdale.
She married
Jacob Refvik in 1937 in Seattle. He preceded her in death in 1993.
Survivors include her brother, Richard Hennicke of Bremerton; one daughter, Yvonne Lacey of Bellevue; and one grandchild, Richard Paul Lacey of Bellevue.
No services are planned. Arrangements are by Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Iris J. Borchers
Iris J. Borchers, 86, of Wenatchee died Jan. 19, 2000, in Wenatchee.
She was born in Seattle July 15, 1913, to Gustauv and Jeanette (Johnson) Lider. She moved to Kitsap County as a child, married
William O. Borchers here on Nov. 23, 1935, and lived in this area for 83 years.
She was employed in the laundry department at the Washington Veterans Home at Retsil for 25 years, retiring in 1967. Mrs. Borchers moved to Wenatchee after her husband's death in 1996.
She spent many years as a "snowbird, " traveling to Arizona with her husband. She also enjoyed gardening, knitting and collecting recipes.
Survivors include her son, Ron of Wenatchee; and grandchildren Brick Borchers of East Wenatchee, Becky Jaspers, Benji Corey, Shane Imes and Will Borchers, all of Wenatchee, Stacie Beltran and Adam Carslin of Bremerton and Yvonne Campbell of Seattle; her sister, Marion Neal of Allyn; and seven great-grandchildren.
A Service of Commemoration will be held at 3 p.m.Saturday at Betts Memorial Chapel, 302 Ninth St., Wenatchee. A gathering of family and friends will be held afterward at her son's home in Wenatchee.
Visitation will be today from noon to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Wenatchee Adult Respite Center, 1408 Washington St., Wenatchee, WA 98801.
Joseph Fischer
Joseph O. Fischer, 76, of Bremerton died Jan. 14, 2000, in Bremerton.
He was born Sept. 17, 1923, in Manette to John and Catherine (Waltenburg) Fischer. He was raised in Manette and attended Bremerton High School. He married
Betty J. Gateson on July 7, 1942, in South Point, Idaho.
Mr. Fischer was in the Navy SeaBees from 1943 to 1946, serving in the South Pacific. After discharge, he was employed at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring as a shipfitter supervisor in 1976 after 30 years.
He was a life member of VFW in Bremerton, and a member of American Legion, Elks and the Masonic Lodge in Bremerton and the Moose Lodge in North Bend.
Survivors include his wife, of the family home; a son, Dan Fischer of Snoqualmie; two brothers, Ed of Bremerton and Jerry of George; three grandchildren, Kari Fischer of North Bend, Chris Amundson of Amity, Ore., and Dan Fischer of Forest Grove, Ore.; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Bob, George and Hank, and a sister, Anna.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bremerton, followed at noon by a potluck gathering at the American Legion Hall, 1240 Sheridan Road, Bremerton.
John Arnold
John F. Arnold, 85, of Bremerton died Jan. 16, 2000, at Bremerton Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in Curtis, Neb., on June 15, 1914, to John and Maude Arnold. He attended school in Alliance, Neb., and in Chadron, Neb., graduating from the University of Nebraska in 1938.
He was married
in 1940 to Isabelle McNulty in Denver. They lived in Peru, South America, where he was employed by Cerro de Pasco Mining Co. from 1940 to 1953.
From 1953 to 1977, they lived in Salt Lake City, where he was the manager of the Western Mines Division of the Internal Audit Department of Kennecott Copper. He retired in 1977, moving to Green Valley, Ariz., and to Bremerton in 1996.
Mr. Arnold was active in Toastmasters, the Institute of Internal Auditor and was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus in Green Valley.
Survivors include his wife; one son, John of Clearlake, Calif.; three daughters, Joan Beale of Valencia, Calif., Kathleen Brimer of Bremerton and Gail Dewey of Silverdale; a brother, Dale of Temple, Texas; and five grandchildren, Shawn and Michael Beale and Liz Gregory, all of Valencia, Glen Dewey of Virginia Beach, Va., and Denise Paschal of Seattle; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bremerton at 11 a.m. Friday, with a Rosary preceding at 10:30 a.m. Arrangements are by Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel on the Hill.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either Holy Trinity Parish or to Hospice of Kitsap County.
Lawrence Keifert
Former Bremerton resident Lawrence E. Keifert, 68, of Des Moines died Jan. 10, 2000, in Des Moines.
He was born Sept. 7, 1931, in Denver to Calvin and Amy (Salazar) Keifert. The family moved to Bremerton in 1939. He graduated from Bremerton High School in 1950 and attended Olympic College.
Mr. Keifert served in the Army with the communications corps in Alaska. He later worked for The Boeing Co. from 1956 until his retirement in 1993.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Keifert; his mother, Amy McFeeley; his former wife, Marlene (Pflughoeft) Anderson; two daughters, Debbie Funkhouser and Donna Smyth; two stepsons, Marshall and Larry Mendez; one stepdaughter, Linda Tullis; one sister, Joanne Berry; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service was held Jan. 13 in Des Moines. Memorial donations may be made to Harborview Trauma Center in Seattle or to the Des Moines 911. Arrangements were by American Memorial in Renton.
Henry Weber
Henry G. Weber, 67, of Poulsbo died Jan. 16, 2000, at his home of a heart attack.
He was born March 7, 1932, in Queens, N.Y., to Leonard and Mary (Watson) Weber. He grew up in the Ridgewood area of Queens, graduating from P.S. 77 Ridgewood High School in 1950, and attending Brooklyn Community College in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Mr. Weber served in the Army from 1952 to 1954. He was assigned to a reconnaissance platoon in Korea.
He married
Adrienne Bathory on June 25, 1955, in Poulsbo.
Mr. Weber worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 36 years, retiring in 1987. He was a machinist and planner estimator.
He received numerous commendations and awards at PSNS and at the navy yard in Brooklyn. He also is credited with creating cartoons that appeared in the PSNS paper, The Salute, and The Kitsap Herald.
He was a member of the International Plastic Modelers Society USA and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Bill of Mountlake Terrace; two daughters, Cindy Tilley of Pacific and Diane Quitslund of Poulsbo; and seven grandchildren, Michael and Bradley Weber and Brandon Stewart, all of Mountlake Terrace, Brian and Shannon Tilley, both of Pacific, and Aaron and Timothy Quitslund, both of Poulsbo. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel on the Hill, followed by inurnment at 3 p.m. at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Frances Shute
Frances L. Ramsey Shute, 78, of Bremerton died Jan. 13, 2000, at Harborview Medical Center of natural causes.
She was born July 12, 1921, in Pierson to Thomas and Nellie (Russner) Signal. She grew up in Keyport, graduating from North Kitsap High School in 1938.
She married
Theodore Ramsey on Sept. 24, 1942, in Seattle. They divorced in 1943. She married
Delbert Shute in April 1971 in Nevada. He preceded her in death Oct. 31, 1971.
She had been employed as the public works administrative officer at the Naval Torpedo Station in Keyport for 28 years, retiring in 1971.
She was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, "The Bridge Center" Bridge Club of Bremerton, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 60 and the American Contract Bridge League.
Survivors include one son, James Ramsey of Seattle. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Clayton and Thomas Signal.
An open house will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Jan. 29 at the Bremerton Elks Lodge, 4131 Pine Road NE in East Bremerton. Interment
will take place at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are by Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel on the Hill
