John Allen
John J. Allen, 86, of Bremerton died Jan. 18, 2000, in Bremerton of natural causes.
He was born April 12, 1913, in Ohio to Bruce and Florence (Swart) Allen. He grew up in Bremerton, attending Bremerton High School.
He married
Ann Drew in 1935 in Seattle.
Mr. Allen worked as a plumber for Lent's Plumbing in Bremerton for 20 years, retiring in 1972. He began his plumbing career in Bremerton, working for his father's business, Allen Plumbing.
He was a member of the Plumber's Union of Bremerton.
Survivors include his wife; and one sister, Irene Enhelder of Long Beach, Calif.
A graveside service is planned for 11 a.m. Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Florence Hall
Florence Margaret Hall, 88, of Silverdale died Jan. 17, 2000, at Alterra Clare Bridge in Silverdale.
She was born Aug. 6, 1911, in Modesto, Calif., to John and Margaret (Muir) Clink. She graduated from high school in San Francisco.
She married
William Hall in San Francisco in July 1945. He preceded her in death in 1987.
Survivors include one stepson, Larry of Bremerton; one stepdaughter, Judith Ratté of Corvallis, Ore.; two sisters, Helen Wandtke and Thelma Gartley, both of California; and seven step-grandchildren, Mark Aho and Kaye Wagner, both of Eugene, Ore., Steven Ahonen of Concord, Calif., Karen Mattravers of Corvallis, Scott Hall of San Diego, Steven Hall of Redwood City, Calif., and Lynne Ratté of Silverdale; and 12 step-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service is planned for 11 a.m. Monday at Longview Memorial Park in Longview. Arrangements are by Kitsap Cremation and Burial Society.

N. Yvette Winters
N. Yvette Winters, 68, of Bremerton died Jan. 17, 2000, at her home of cancer.
She was born Sept. 24, 1931, in Snoqualmie to Elzie and Nettie (English) Lacy. She grew up in Issaquah. She graduated from Central Kitsap High School in 1949.
She married
Robert Winters on June 26, 1948, in Bremerton.
Mrs. Winters was a homemaker. She was a member of the West Side Improvement Club Women's Auxiliary, the Odd Fellows, the Rainbow Girls and the West Bremerton Pee Wees, serving as secretary to the president.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Lawrance and Robert, both of Bremerton, and Richard of Boulder City, Nev.; one brother, Billy Lacy of Bremerton; one sister, Ylovia McKinney of Kent and Yuma, Ariz.; and four grandchildren, Kevin of Boulder City, Jill of Silverdale, Yohan of Federal Way and Robin Honeycutt of Buffalo, N.Y.
A service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel on the Hill.

Kenneth Maves
Kenneth A. Maves, 54, of Silverdale died Jan. 17, 2000, at his home after a sudden illness.
He was born Oct. 26, 1945, in Kankakee, Ill., to Kenneth and Betty (Fortier) Maves. He grew up in Peotone, Ill., graduating from Peotone High School in 1964.
He served in the Navy from 1968 to 1999, retiring as a lieutenant commander with 30 years of service. His tours of duty spanned Vietnam through Desert Storm.
His military honors include: the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (3rd), the Southwest Asia Service Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal (2nd), the Kuwait Liberation Medal, the Expert Rifleman Medal, the Expert Pistol Shot Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, the Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon (2nd), the Overseas Service Ribbon (4th), the Battle "E" Efficiency Ribbon and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
He married
Sumie Ishida on June 23, 1978.
Survivors include his wife; one brother, Gene of Peotone; two sisters, Diane Klipp of Peotone and Margo Bouchard of Albuquerque, N.M.
A Mass will be celebrated at 11:45 a.m. today at the chapel on the Naval Submarine Base Bangor. Arrangements are by Kitsap Cremation and Burial Society.
Billie Rae Allen
Billie Rae Allen, 72, of Poulsbo died Jan. 17, 2000, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation of Oyster Bay in Bremerton.
She was born June 8, 1927, in Galena, Kan., to Guy and Vera (DeWitt) Rhea. She was raised and educated in the Galena area.
She had been a resident of Kitsap County for the past 30 years and had been employed at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Poulsbo, a life member of the Poulsbo Sportsman Club and a member and instructor for the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include two sons, William Cook of Independence, Mo., and Sam Trout of Missouri; one stepdaughter, Mitzie Lynn Allen of Poulsbo; and four grandchildren, Sam Trout Jr., Tina Trout and Dawn and Dana Cook. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell, in 1979.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church of Poulsbo. Burial will take place at Mount Hope cemetery in Webb City, Mo. Arrangements are by Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Wayne Muller
Wayne D. Muller, 80, of Port Orchard died Jan. 12, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Oct. 16, 1919, in Seattle, to Chester and Clara Muller. His family moved to Manette in 1923, where he grew up, graduating from Bremerton High School in 1937, and completing an apprenticeship in electrical drafting at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
He married
Virginia Ketcham on June 18, 1943, in Seattle. She preceded him in death in 1994.
Mr. Muller served in the Army during World War II. A sergeant in the infantry, he was stationed in the Philippines.
After the war, he studied electrical engineering at the University of Washington. He was a civilian electrical engineer with the Department of the Navy, working at PSNS, transferring to Washington, D.C. Following retirement, he worked in a similar capacity for several major corporations, moving back to Port Orchard in 1998.
He had been active in Boy Scouts in his youth, representing the Pacific Northwest at the World Scout Jamboree in Scotland and serving later as an assistant scout master for Troop 505 in Manette. He had also been active in the Army Reserve, achieving the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Survivors include one daughter, Leanna of Belfair; one son, Kevin of the East Coast; two brothers, Ward of Port Orchard and Willard of Port Angeles; a sister, Corinne Ohrt of Lakewood; and four grandsons.
A service is planned for 3 p.m. Friday at Manette Community Church, with a reception following at the church.
Dora Weaver
Dora M. Weaver, 89, of Bremerton died Jan. 14, 2000, in Bremerton.
She was born Oct. 17, 1910, in Buffalo, N.Y., where she was raised and educated.
She married
Lawrence Weaver on Aug. 14, 1948, in Buffalo. The couple moved to Bremerton in 1954.
Mrs. Weaver was a homemaker. She tutored for two years with the Literacy Council of Kitsap County, taught canasta at the Bremerton Senior Center and had been a Mariner Girl Scout leader for a number of years in Buffalo.
She was a member of the YWCA of Kitsap County, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and Summit Avenue Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by cousins in Oregon and in New York. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1983.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel on the Hill. Inurnment will take place at Forest Lawn cemetery in Buffalo.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Joseph Fischer
Joseph O. Fischer, 76, of Bremerton died Jan. 14, 2000, in Bremerton.
He was born Sept. 17, 1923, in Manette, to John and Catherine (Waltenburg) Fischer. He grew up in Manette, attending Bremerton High School.
He married
Betty (Gateson) Fischer on July 7, 1942, in South Point, Idaho.
Mr. Fischer served with the Navy SeaBees from 1943 to 1946, in the South Pacific and in Guam.
He worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1976 as a shipfitter supervisor after 30 years.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Bremerton. He was also a member of the American Legion, the Elks and the Masonic Lodge, all in Bremerton, and the Moose Lodge in North Bend.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Dan of Snoqualmie; two brothers, Ed of Bremerton and Jerry of George; three grandchildren, Kari of North Bend, Dan of Forest Grove, Ore., and Chris Amundson of Amity, Ore.; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Bob, George and Hank, and a sister, Anna.
A graveside service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park, followed by a potluck gathering at noon at the American Legion Hall, 1240 Sheridan Road in east Bremerton.
Pearl Kroke
Pearl A. Kroke, 96, of Bremerton died Jan. 17, 2000, in Minot, N.D.
She was born Sept. 23, 1903, in McVille, N.D., to John and Annie (Anderson) Peterson. She grew up in McVille, graduating from McVille High School in 1921.
She married
Al Kroke in 1924 in Watford City, N.D. He preceded her in death in 1992.
Mrs. Kroke taught school for three years prior to her marriage. She became a homemaker, moving to Bremerton in 1965.
Survivors include one son, Bud of Surprise, Ariz.; two daughters, Adlaine Bailey of Minot and Fern Jacobson of Bremerton; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for Friday in Minot. Inurnment will take place at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park at a later date.
Holly Wartena
Holly Ann Wartena, 29, of Olalla died Jan. 15, 2000, in Olalla following a traffic accident.
She was born Dec. 9, 1970, in Salt Lake City to Richard and LaVon (Terry) White. She grew up in the Cottonwood Heights area of Salt Lake City.
She married
Darren Wartena on Oct. 28, 1989, in Park City, Utah.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Olalla Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include her husband; her parents, now of St. George, Utah; two sons, Cody and Brady, both of Olalla; two brothers, Don and Rocky White, both of Salt Lake City; and two sisters, Debbie Mackintosh and Robyn White, both of Salt Lake City.
A funeral service is planned for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Bremerton Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Mullenix Road in Port Orchard, Interment
will follow at Fraola cemetery in Olalla. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Edna Schmalbeck
Edna Ruby Schmalbeck, 91, of Bremerton died Jan. 15, 2000, in Bremerton.
She was born June 17, 1908, in Clay County, Neb., to John and Wilhemina Schroeder. She grew up in Sterling, Colo., graduating from Sterling High School in 1926.
She graduated from Colorado State College of Education in Greeley, Colo., in 1950, later attending West State College of Education in Gunnison, Colo., and the University of Washington in Seattle.
She married
Lee Otto Schmalbeck on Jan. 3, 1931, in Kelly, Colo. He preceded her in death in 1976.
Mrs. Schmalbeck taught in the Seattle public schools for 27 years, retiring in 1973. Previously, she taught in Colorado and in Portland, Ore.
She was a member of Columbia Baptist Church in Seattle. She taught Sunday school for nearly 70 years.
Survivors include one daughter, Mona Perdue of Bremerton; and two grandchildren, Joseph Perdue of Silverdale and Andrew Perdue of Kennewick.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Friday at Washington Memorial Park, 16445 International Blvd. in SeaTac. Inurnment will also take place at Washington Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Bonney-Watson Funeral Home in Seattle.
