Chester Swanson
Chester Hugo Swanson, 92, of Bremerton died Aug. 9, 1998, at his home.
He was born March 9, 1906, in Everett to Gustav and Hilma (Jacobson) Swanson. He graduated from Everett High School in 1925. He went on to graduate from the University of Washington School of Pharmacy in 1931.
On June 22, 1931, he married
Linnea Nylund in Spokane. She preceded him in death in June of this year.
Mr. Swanson served in the Navy Reserve. He came to Bremerton in 1934 and worked for Doc Ellis Charleston Drug until 1945 when he purchased the business. He then owned and operated Swanson's Westgate Pharmacy until his retirement in 1972.
He was an active member of the Lincoln Avenue Bible Church, the Washington State Pharmacy Association and the American Pharmaceutical Association.
Survivors include a son, Arlan of Bremerton; two daughters, Yvonne Collins of Bremerton and Donna Hedman of Tahuya; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 27 at Lincoln Avenue Bible Church, 1221 Chester Ave., Bremerton. Inurnment is at Forest Lawn cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Alan Wistrand
Alan F. Wistrand, 71, of Poulsbo died Aug. 4, 1998.
He was born May 21, 1927, in East Chicago, Ind. He graduated from East Chicago's Roosevelt High School in 1945. He graduated in 1951 from the University of Washington with a degree in business. He was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity.
Mr. Wistrand served in the Marine Corps. After leaving the military, he married
Lee Noeland and settled on Miller Bay.
He made his living as a planning supervisor for 23 years at the Naval Torpedo Station at Keyport. After his retirement in 1979 he sold real estate for John L. Scott.
He was active in Kiwanis, Sons of Norway, Chorus of the Olympics and the Bainbridge Light Opera.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Steve and Mike, both of Poulsbo, and Scott of Vancouver, Wash.; a brother, Harry of Dallas, Texas; and four grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 19 at Suquamish Community Congregational United Church of Christ, 18732 Division Ave. NE, Poulsbo.
Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.

Renrick Head
Renrick Earl Head, 39, of Bremerton died Aug. 8, 1998, at home after a terminal illness.
He was born March 23, 1959, in Enterprise, Ala., to Mrs. Mary Alice Pierce. He attended Fort Lauderdale High School.
Mr. Head made his living as a civilian in the Navy. He worked as a summer aid in 1970 at NSWC in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He moved up to a WG-5 and finally, to a WG-10. He received a workmanship award for outstanding performance in 1992. He transferred to TRF, Bangor in 1994, and retired in 1996 due to his illness.
He was a member of the Keyport Bible Church, a leader of a Boy Scout troop in Florida and a member of the Scout Club.
Survivors include his wife, Ana (Sanele) Head; his mother; two sons, Talu of Hawaii and Cholly of Bremerton; two daughters, Tala and Danielle, both of Bremerton; three brothers, Reginald of Alabama, Jeffery Waits of Fort Lauderdale, and Stephune Waits of Rhode Island; and a sister, Gail VanDross of Boston, Mass.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 20 at Keyport Bible Church, 15270 Washington Ave. NE.

Laurel Jones
Laurel Elizabeth Jones, 68, of Bremerton died Aug. 15, 1998, at home.
She was born Feb. 10, 1930, in Waverly to Flay and Ida (Flaig) Hill. She graduated from Marycliff High School in Spokane.
On Dec. 20, 1947, she married
Stanley (Stan) R. Jones in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Russel of Redmond and Keith of Carnation; two daughters, Deborah Frank of Bellevue and Laurie of Port Orchard; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, William, in 1969.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Aug. 19 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church.

John McConnell
John Milton McConnell, 60, of Bremerton died Aug. 15, 1998.
He was born Oct. 30, 1937, in Hobart, Okla., to Clarence and Nellie (Zinn) McConnell. He graduated from Lone Wolf High School in 1954.
On Nov. 5, 1956, he married
Shirley Anderson in Vernon, Texas.
Mr. McConnell served in the Navy from 1956 to 1968 as an aviation boatswain mate second class. He worked with Diamond Parking and in property management before becoming a commercial real estate agent with Coldwell Banker-Park Shore Real Estate for 15 years.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Elks, American Legion, Bremerton Athletic Round Table (past president), Kitsap Commercial Investment Brokers and the Commercial Brokers Association.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Laniesa Kasperski of Shelton and Tamberly York and Theresa Strickler, both of Las Vegas, Nevada; five sisters, Doris Johnson of Choctaw, Okla., Katha Mitchell of Elgin, Texas, Arlene Newton of Lawten, Okla., Janice Cowan of Claremore, Okla., and Linda Yandell of Burns Flat, Okla.; 10 grandchildren, Michael Vertefeuille and Brandi Swaub, both of Bremerton, Steven Swaub, Sara and Rebecca Strickler, all of Las Vegas, Jonelle, Mellissa, Joseph, Matt and Michelle Kasperski, all of Shelton; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 20 at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bremerton Food Bank.
John Whitcraft
John Francis Whitcraft, 52, of Kingston died Aug. 11, 1998.
He was born Feb. 16, 1946, in Bremerton to Ralph and Rose Whitcraft. He attended Olympic College.
Mr. Whitcraft served in the Army. He was a disabled Vietnam veteran.
Survivors include two brothers, Bernard of Longview and James of Olympia; two sisters, Mary Wlodarchak of Quilcene and Marjorie Baca of Albuquerque, N.M.
At his request, there will be no services.

Harriet Mitchell
Harriet F. Mitchell, 73, of Bremerton died Aug. 14, 1998, at Northwoods Lodge in Silverdale of complications resulting from diabetes.
She was born Sept. 8, 1924, in South Colby to Harry and Flora (McPherson) Keith. She graduated from Bremerton High School in 1942.
Shortly after high school she married
J.F. "Jack" Mitchell. He preceded her in death in 1992.
Mrs. Mitchell was proud of having been instrumental in re-establishing the Kitsap County Chapter of the American Cancer Society in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
Survivors include a son, John of Bremerton; a sister, Isabelle Birkenfeld of Bremerton; and two grandchildren, Jeffery and John, both of Bremerton.
At the family's request, there will be no services.
Cremation and Inurnment will be at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Winifred Bartlett
Winifred Bartlett, 88, of Bremerton died Aug. 14, 1998, at her home.
She was born in the village of Nicholas Bay.
Survivors include her devoted longtime companion of 30 years, Douglas Roughton; two sons, Wally Charles and Ronald Bartlett; a daughter, Lorraine Lopez; a brother, Bill Wallace; seven grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m., with funeral services and interment at 1 p.m. Aug. 19 at Bonney-Watson Washington Memorial, 16445 Pacific Highway South.
Wayman Ross
Wayman L. "Sonny" Ross, 62, of Bremerton died Aug. 12, 1998, of a heart attack.
He was born May 29, 1936, in Virginia, Ill., to Paul and Versie (Stidman) Ross. He graduated from Virginia High School in 1954.
Mr. Ross served in the Marine Corps in Korea from 1954 to 1957.
He owned his own construction company and travel agency in Olympia.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 68 and The Elks Lodge No. 1007 in Beardstown, Ill.
Survivors include his fiancee, Nancy Petri of Bremerton; his mother; two sons, Scott and David, both of Olympia; a daughter, Lisa Marks of Danville, Calif.; two brothers, Wayne of Bremerton and Larry of Port Orchard; a sister, Wasita Sidebottom of Tarpin Springs, Fla.; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 16 at the American Legion Hall No. 68.
