Ruth Korb
Ruth May Korb, a resident of Bremerton, passed away on Aug. 13, 1998.
She was born on July 29 in Roff, Pontoc County, Okla.
On June 7, 1943, she married
Edward M. Korb in Visalia, Calif.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Brandy Deets and Louise Gent, both of Bremerton; two brothers, Asa of Spokane and Chester of Eldorado, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Chapel, 2225 Perry Ave., Bremerton.
Arrangements are under the direction of Tuell-McKee Funeral Home.
Van Carter
Van Burton "Burt" Carter, 80, of Bremerton died Aug. 12, 1998.
He was born July 1, 1918, in Tracyton to Van Burton and Grace (Ritter) Carter. He was raised and educated in Tracyton, attending Tracyton Grade School. He later graduated from Silverdale High School in 1936.
On Dec. 3, 1938, he married
Anne Atkinson in Manette. She preceded him in death on Oct. 4, 1994.
Mr. Carter had worked as a sheetmetal mechanic for many companies in Kitsap County, eventually retiring from Lents Corporation.
Survivors include two sons, Van of Anchorage and Bill of Bremerton; a daughter, Carol Larsen of Edmonds; a sister, Lorraine Reed of Lynnwood; six grandchildren, Shelly Bainter, Chris Steele, Brad and Scott Larsen, Juli Williams and Ami Carter; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 18 at Tracyton United Methodist Church, 5153 Naomi NW.
Cremation will be at Forest Lawn cemetery with inurnment at Tracyton cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Virginia Johnson
Virginia Mae Johnson, 78, of Kingston died Aug. 10, 1998, at Northwoods Lodge in Silverdale from complications from heart disease and emphysema.
She was born Jan. 12, 1920, in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker. She and her husband were active in the Petersburg Elks Lodge and the Poulsbo Chapter of the Eagles. Mrs. Johnson was a longtime member of the Petersburg Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include a brother, E.L. (Bud) Clemons of Fort Mohave, Ariz., and Alaska; two sons, Mike of Kingston and Ken Burton of Chantilly, Va; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Johnson, and a sister, Imogene Powers.
A memorial service will be at 12 noon Aug. 27 at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel, 22272 Foss Road NE, Poulsbo. A reception will follow at the chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.
Frederick Higgen
Frederick John Higgen, 86, of Bremerton died Aug. 6, 1998, from Parkinson's disease.
He was born March 29, 1912, in Tacoma to John and Freda (Dreher) Higgen. He graduated from Stadium High School in 1931. In 1953 he graduated from Western Chiropractic College in Portland, Ore.
In December 1940, he married
Helen Chezeski in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
Mr. Higgen worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard until his retirement in 1978. He then became a co-partner in establishing Helen's Health Food Store.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Howard of Seattle and Michael of Bremerton; a sister, Verna Vandenberg of Tacoma; and a grandchild, Mathew of Bremerton.
A private family service will be held.
Allen Dorsey
Allen Brewster "Bill" Dorsey, 95, of Bainbridge Island died Aug. 13, 1998.
He was born April 22, 1903, in Leona, N.J., to Allen and Mabel (Brewster) Dorsey. He was raised in White Salmon, attended high school in Portland, Ore., and the University of Oregon.
Mr. Dorsey owned an auto repair business and was an investor and builder. He was a member of the Wing Point Golf and Country Club, the Seattle Yacht Club and the Gyro Club.
Survivors include a son, James; two grandchildren, Jeff and Pat; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera, in 1994 and a grandson, Allen, in 1995.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 17 at Kane cemetery.

Willis Angel
Willis George Angel, 83, of Bremerton died Aug. 9, 1998, at Ridgemont Terrace Convalescent Center, from heart disease.
He was born June 12, 1915, in Spokane to George and Agnes (Flemming) Angel. He graduated from John Rogers High School in 1935.
After his graduation, he served in a cabinetmaker apprenticeship in Spokane.
In May 1940, he married
Jean Mann in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. She preceded him in death in 1989.
Mr. Angel worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 31 years as a planner/estimator and woodworker in the joiner shop until his retirement in 1972.
Survivors include his companion, Mary DeLaGrange of Port Orchard; two sons, Bennett of Mount Vernon and Denny of Vancouver, Wash.; a sister, Margaret Holien of Spokane; seven grandchildren, Tambie and Bennett Jr., both of Seattle, Kimberlie of Mount Vernon, Michael of Olympia, Guy of Camas, and Chris and Marck, both of Vancouver, Wash. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clint, Ed and Don, and a granddaughter, Denine.
At his request, there will be no service.

Jared Hopper
Jared Allen Hopper, 20, of Port Orchard died Aug. 10, 1998, of cancer.
He was born Sept 15, 1977, in Bremerton to Richmond and Karen (Jennings) Hopper. Mr. Hopper was raised in Port Orchard and attended South Kitsap High School.
He worked for the last year at Mary Mac's Restaurant in Port Orchard.
Survivors include his companion, Marie Perras of Port Orchard; his parents; three brothers, Douglas of Bouse, Ariz., Daniel of Port Orchard and Leonard of Bellingham; a sister, Kara Sullivan of Allyn; his grandparents, Glenn and Eloise Jennings of Union, Ore., and Bernice Hopper of College Place.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Sept. 15 on what would have been his 21st birthday, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Cleman Stones
Cleman B. Stones, 87, of Fremont, Calif., died Aug. 10, 1998, at Hillside Care Center.
He was born Dec. 10, 1910, in Coalville, Utah.
Mr. Stones lived in Bremerton for 40 years, retiring from the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard after 25 years.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Marzo; a son, Ves Lewis of Fremont, Calif.; a sister, Bernice Larsen of Bountiful, Utah; two grandchildren, Marc Lewis of Concord, Calif., and Shawn Lewis of Layton, Utah.
A private family service was held in Fremont, Calif.
William Von Essen
William Von Essen Sr., 86, of Bremerton died Aug. 11, 1998, of cancer.
He was born Nov. 11, 1911, in Germany to Wilhelm and Marie Von Essen. He was raised in Peoria, Ill.
On Sept. 12, 1943, he married
Waneta Fischer in Bremerton.
Mr. Von Essen made his living as a pipefitter at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring as a general foreman in 1986.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, William Jr. of Port Orchard and Richard and Raymond, both of Bremerton; seven daughters, Danielle Edwards and Michele Jenkins, both of Port Orchard, Pamela Sallee of Kentucky, Rebecca Brown of Seabeck, Wilhelmina and Debra, both of Bremerton, and Berneta Ottolini of Shelton; a grandson, Lonny McMichael of Bremerton, and 16 other grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, William, and a daughter, Antoinette Richie.
Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Aug. 14 with a funeral service following at 1 p.m. at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. Frank Peterson
Frank Edward Peterson Jr., 78, of Silverdale died Aug. 11, 1998, in Silverdale.
He was born March 9, 1920, in Mapleton, N.D.
On May 22, 1948, he married
Doris Hintz in Olympia. She preceded him in death in October 1986.
Mr. Peterson enlisted in the Navy on Columbus Day, 1938. His first ship was the USS New Mexico. He served during World War II and the Korean War. He worked at the Nike site in Poulsbo in 1960 and later was an electronic mechanic at Keyport Torpedo Station. He retired in 1976.
He was a 25-year member of F. & A.M. Clover Lodge No. 91 of Tacoma and the Charleston Lodge No. 269 of Bremerton.
Survivors include four sons, Steve of Lake Forest, Ill., Kyle of Seattle, Eric of Seabeck and Aaron of Silverdale; and a sister, Gloria Burmester of Tacoma.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 17 at Tracyton United Methodist Church, with inurnment beside his wife at Forest Memorial Gardens in Olympia.
Arrangements are under the direction of Tuell-McKee Funeral Home.
