Larry Underwood
Former Poulsbo resident Larry Underwood, 51, of Redding, Calif., died following a short illness Oct. 29, 2000, in Redding.
He was born Oct. 1, 1949, in Westport, Neb., to Bo Underwood and Florence Neilsen.
He served in the Army and later was a power lineman for 30 years, retiring this year.
Mr. Underwood was a member of North Kitsap Abate of Washington.
Survivors include his wife, Geana Underwood; his parents; three sons, Erin Underwood, Jesse Underwood and Tim Loughton; a daughter, Brande Green; a brother, Rick; three sisters, Carol Swanson, Sharon Smith and Betty Marsh; and two grandsons.
A celebration of his life will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the home of Doris Jensen in Port Orchard. A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday at First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo.
Bertha Bourboulis
Bertha Bourboulis, 91, of Port Orchard died of a stroke Oct. 28, 2000, at her home.
She was born Feb. 3, 1909, in Oakland, Calif., to Antonio and Maria Gonsalves. She graduated from high school in Oakland.
She married
Cedrie Bourboulis in Oakland in 1938. He preceded her in death in 1992.
Mrs. Bourboulis was a secretary and bookkeeper in California, retiring in 1974.
She was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis Bourboulis of Port Orchard and Philip Vourvoulis of Pacific Palisades, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Nov. 18 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church. Inurnment will take place in Pacific Grove, Calif.

Helen Lightfoot
Helen Jane Lightfoot, 91, of Poulsbo died Oct. 30, 2000, at Martha and Mary Health Care Center.
She was born Aug. 2, 1909, in Ogden, Utah, to Harry and Gladys (Holbrook) Berryman. She graduated in 1926 from Butte High School in Montana.
She married
William Lightfoot on Jan. 3, 1926, in Butte. He preceded her in death in 1979.
Mrs. Lightfoot was a bookkeeper for Alaskan Copper and Brass for 33 years.
She was a member of the AHMIES (Lady Shriners) and the Eastern Star.
Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Stroud of Poulsbo and Shirley Greene of Surprise, Ariz.; a brother, Earl Berryman of Granite Falls; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Berryman.
A graveside service is planned for 1 p.m. Friday at Floral Hills Memorial Park in Lynnwood. Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.

George Payne
George Earl Payne, 70, of Port Orchard died Oct. 27, 2000, at Tacoma General Hospital.
He was born March 26, 1930, in Port Angeles to George J. and Beulah F. (McClure) Payne. He graduated from Bremerton High School in 1948 and from Olympic College.
He married
Virginia May Reid on April 2, 1950, in Bremerton.
Mr. Payne served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1955, achieving the rank of airman 1st class.
He worked at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard Commissary for 26 years and owned Foxy's Char Broiler for 30 years, retiring in 1990.
Mr. Payne was a member of the Bremerton Athletic Roundtable. He enjoyed horses.
He is survived by his wife; a son, George N. of Auburn; three daughters, Dana Erickson of Sequim, Candace Richardson of Bremerton and Lori Giese of Port Orchard; a brother, Sidney of Bremerton; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A funeral service is planned for 1 p.m. Friday at Lewis Funeral Chapel, followed by a reception. Interment
will take place at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Mark Schurman
Mark D. Schurman, 35, of Gig Harbor, died from injuries from an automobile accident Oct. 29, 2000, at Tacoma General Hospital.
He was born Aug. 26, 1965, in Great Falls, Mont., to David L. and Vicki L. (Painter) Schurman. He graduated from Olympic High School in 1983 and from ITT Technical College.
Mr. Schurman served in the Army.
He later worked in computer maintenance and enjoyed computers and reading.
Survivors include his companion, Crystal Howard of Gig Harbor; his parents of Tokyo; two sons, Chad Schurman and Max Howard, both of Gig Harbor; a sister, Linda Schurman of Kailua Kona, Hawaii; a brother, Glen of Bremerton; and a grandmother, Phoebe Schurman of Great Falls, Mont.
A gathering of family and friends will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday at 7910 University Point Circle in Bremerton. Cremation will take place at Cherry Grove Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

George Kaiyala
George G. Kaiyala, 88, of Bremerton died of natural causes Oct. 28, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Dec. 3, 1911, in Butte, Mont., to Jacob and Susanna (Heikkila) Kaiyala. He graduated from Weatherwax High School in Aberdeen in 1931.
Mr. Kaiyala worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for more than 31 years, retiring in 1966.
He was a member of the Sons of Norway and the Bremerton Health and Racquet Club.
Survivors include his companion, Florence "Polly" Welch of Tracyton; two daughters, Sandra Seymour of Port Orchard and Marie Hoover of Arizona; two brothers, Garnet of Seattle and Ed of Aberdeen; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1976; a daughter, Lois Sherfick; five brothers, Walt, Hugo, Arvo, Omar and Jack; and two sisters, Emily Atzel and Esther Anderson.
A celebration of his life is planned for 2 p.m. Monday at Sons of Norway in Bremerton. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Betty Parmley Honodel
Former Bremerton resident Betty Parmley Honodel, 79, of Spokane died Oct. 28, 2000, in Spokane.
She was born Dec. 17, 1920, in Bremerton to Cecil O. and Dagmar (Irving) Parmley. She graduated from Bremerton High School in 1939, and in 1940 from business school in Bremerton.
She married
Robert C. Honodel on June 25, 1942, in Bremerton. They divorced in 1970.
She enjoyed her family and cherished her collie dogs. She was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
Her survivors include a son, Scott of Spokane; a daughter, Suzanne Radmaker of Spokane; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Rob, and two brothers, James and Guy Parmley.
A memorial service is planned for 4 p.m. Thursday at Opportunity Christian Church, 708 N. Pines Road in Spokane.

Daisy Burbick
Daisy Dean Burbick, 74, of Bremerton died Oct. 26, 2000, in Bremerton.
She was born March 15, 1926, in Burlington, N.C., to William Dennis and Lula Mae (Hall) Turner. She graduated from Broad High School in Burlington.
Mrs. Burbick was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Bremerton and Friendship Chapter 24 of Kaiserslaugern in West Germany.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary "Shannon" Burbick of Bremerton; and a sister, Mildred Turner of Burlington. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Glenn Wright Kimbrough.
A memorial service is planned for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church.

Doris Irwin
Doris E. Irwin, 75, of Olalla died Oct. 24, 2000, at Ridgemont Terrace Convalescent Center.
She was born Jan. 13, 1925, in Napavine to Arthur and Ethel (Thompson) Buzzell. She graduated from South Kitsap Union High School in 1945.
She married
William S. Irwin in El Paso, Texas. He preceded her in death in 1977.
Mrs. Irwin was a tool room attendant at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 23 years, retiring in 1970.
She enjoyed ceramics.
Survivors include two sons, Paul and Mike Browning, both of Port Orchard; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Browning.
Private services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Gary Wortman
Gary E. Wortman, 59, of Atlanta and formerly of Bremerton died Oct. 23, 2000, of a brain tumor.
He was born April 18, 1941, in Bremerton to Melvin D. and Jane F. (Weaver) Wortman. He graduated from West Bremerton High School in 1959 and from Seattle Pacific University in 1964.
Mr.Wortman worked for 36 years in the fields of education and sports. He was a high school teacher and coach, later becoming a coach and scout for the National Basketball Association.
He enjoyed golf and travel.
Survivors include his wife, Antje; his parents; a son, Brock of Washington, D.C.; a daughter, Michelle Turner, of Snoqualmie; two stepsons, Terry Wagner of Vancouver, British Columbia, and Tony Bragger of Atlanta; two brothers, Dave of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and Steve of Tacoma; a sister, Janna Marsh of Phoenix; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Friday at Calvary Temple Church, 6810 Eighth Ave. NE in Seattle.

Hazel Brodersen
Hazel Barnett Brodersen, 94, of Bremerton died of natural causes Oct. 23, 2000, at Bremerton Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Aug. 20, 1906, in Pine City, Wash., to George and Maude Crutcher.
She married
Hugh G. Barnett on Aug. 14, 1930. He preceded her in death in 1976. She then married
August R. Brodersen in October 1978.
She was an elementary school teacher in Cle Elum for 30 years, retiring in 1969.
Survivors include two sisters, both of Spokane; a brother of Spokane; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her second husband; and a daughter, Jane Alice Browitt, in 1999.
There will be no services.
