James Kidd
James E. "Jimmie" Kidd, 75, of Bremerton died Oct. 1, 2000, at home of natural causes.
He was born Feb. 16, 1925, in Sissonville, W.V., to Corbet and Louise (Casto) Kidd. He graduated from high school in West Virginia and attended Olympic College in Bremerton.
Mr. Kidd served in the Navy from 1942 to 1945 and in the Air Force from 1946 to 1972, achieving the rank of master sergeant.
He married
Lucille F. McKinney on June 1, 1949, in Agana, Guam.
Mr. Kidd worked as a tech controller for 27 years while in the Air Force.
He was a member of the Masonic Scottish Rite and the Kitsap County Shrine Club.
Survivors include his wife and a sister, Reva Bays of Charleston, W.V. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
A gathering of family and friends is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 14 at Oyster Bay Inn. Inurnment will take place at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Helyne Scriven
Helyne Anna Scriven, 77, of Port Orchard died Sept. 29, 2000, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma.
She was born Dec. 13, 1922, in Chicago to Christ and Anna (Giageos) Generis. She graduated from McKinnley High School in Chicago in 1940.
She married
James H. Scriven on June 13, 1960, in Waukegan, Ill.
Mrs. Scriven worked as a homemaker and office clerk with the justice department in Chicago for 15 years.
She enjoyed needlework and ceramics.
Survivors include her husband; a son, James of Hereford, Ariz.; three sisters, Stella Valos of Fort Worth, Texas, Paula Brunner of Milwaukee and Faye Rumel of Orland Park, Ill.; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers; and a sister.
Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A funeral service is planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rill Chapel. Interment
will take place at Tahoma National cemetery.
Esther Holmes
Esther Holmes, 83, of Silverdale died Sept. 29, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born April 18, 1917, in Ironton, Minn., to John and Flossie (Cuff) Robins.
She married
Beecher Holmes on June 29, 1967, in Tacoma. He preceded her in death in 1968.
Mrs. Holmes was a homemaker. She enjoyed volunteering at Group Health and donating her quilts to the homeless.
She is survived by two sons, Dale Smith of Enumclaw and Gail Allen Smith of Shelton; three daughters, Yvonne McKinney of Moclips, Gladys Ann McCoy of Bremerton and Vera Rapoza of Tacoma; a brother, Albert Robins of Shelton; a sister, June Lewin of Kansas City, Mo.; 19 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Julie, Elma, Eva, Norma and Martha; and two brothers, Larry and Lanie.
Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Wednesday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A funeral service is planned for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Rill Chapel. Interment
will then take place 2:30 p.m. at Washington Memorial Park in Seattle.
Eleanor Schwoch
Eleanor L. Schwoch, 87, of Bremerton died of natural causes Sept. 30, 2000, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation of Oyster Bay.
She was born Nov. 6, 1912, in Winona, Minn., to Ed and May Saehlor. She graduated from Winona Senior High School.
Mrs. Schwoch enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
She is survived by four sons, Larry of Silverdale, Ronald of Bremerton and Robert and Clifford, both of Maryland; a daughter, Mary Ellen Wilson of Bremerton; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Gustive Schwoch, in 1969.
A private memorial service will take place.

Frances Johnson
Former Bremerton resident Frances Treherne Johnson, 100, of Mill Creek died of pneumonia Sept. 16, 2000, in Marysville.
She was born Sept. 12, 1900, in New York City, N.Y.
Mrs. Johnson served in the Navy as an yeomanette during World War I. She then worked for the Navy Department in Washington, D.C.
Mrs. Johnson enjoyed bridge and traveling extensively.
She is survived by two sons, Richard of Lake Stevens and David of Maple Valley; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Commander Alonzo L. Johnson, in 1988.
There will be no formal service at her request.
Gordon Titus
Former Port Orchard resident The Rev. Gordon P. Titus, 86, of Anaheim, Calif., died Sept. 24, 2000, in Anaheim.
He was born Feb. 18, 1914, in Hasbrook Heights, N.J. He graduated from Anaheim Union High School and attended Biola Bible Institute of Los Angeles.
He married
Lorraine Ebel on March 28, 1941, in Tustin, Calif. She preceded him in death in 1998.
Mr. Titus was a pastor for 50 years.
He was a member of Manchester Community Church.
Survivors include a son, Paul of Puyallup; two daughters, Sharon Prenguber of Lynnwood and Lois Giron of Anaheim; a sister, Alice Patterson of Hilo, Hawaii; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A graveside service is planned for 11 a.m. Friday at Sunset Lane cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Manchester Community Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Max Packett
Max Charles Packett, 61, of Port Orchard died of a heart attack Sept. 24, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Feb. 17, 1939, in Lincoln, Neb., to Robert R. and Juanita (Duff) Packett. He graduated from South Kitsap High School.
He married
Trina Green in 1935 in Lincoln.
Mr. Packett served in the Air Force from 1956 to 1958, achieving the rank of airman.
He later was a tow-truck operator and auto parts distributor for 40 years.
Mr. Packett was a member of the Catholic church. He enjoyed repairing and restoring cars.
He is survived by his wife of Port Orchard; his mother, Juanita Kiramidjon of San Francisco; three sons, C. Eugene Sullivan of Slovakia, Thomas Carl of Auburn and Charles Ray of Salt Lake City; a daughter, Cynthia Stewart of Tacoma; a brother, Robert of Silverdale; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday at Waterman Community Center in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Kitsap Cremation and Burial Society.

Larry Clark
Larry L. Clark, 45, of Bremerton died Sept. 21, 2000, at St. Joseph Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 9, 1954, in Bremerton to Stanley and Hannah (Robinson) Clark. He attended West High School and Olympic College.
Mr. Clark was a transportation dispatcher at Bangor for 12 years.
He enjoyed cars and outdoor activities.
Survivors include a son, Daryl of Bremerton; two daughters, Casie of Key Center and Brooke Warhurst of Bremerton; a brother, Stanley of Tacoma; two sisters, Beckie Clark of Bremerton and Debbie Saldana of Mukilteo; and two grandchildren.
A memorial graveside service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Forest Lawn cemetery. A potluck reception will follow at the Bremerton Eagles Club. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Nellie Hardt
Nellie Hardt, 96, of Bremerton died of cancer Sept. 23, 2000, in Bremerton.
She was born March 29, 1904, in Ritzville to Joseph and Frances (Reis) Gering.
She married
Carl R. Hardt in Ritzville. He preceded her in death in 1985.
Mrs. Hardt was a homemaker. She enjoyed decorating wedding cakes.
She was a member of the Church of Nazarene in Bremerton.
Survivors include a daughter, Gladys Salamon of Bremerton; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. Interment
will follow at Forest Lawn cemetery. A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. at the Church of Nazarene.

Louis Rivera
Louis U. Rivera Sr., 80, of Silverdale died Sept. 24, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Feb. 11, 1920, in Tularosa, N.M., to Ramon and Mary (Utter) Rivera.
He married
Mary Lopez in March of 1939. She preceded him in death in 1993.
Mr. Rivera served in the Navy during World War II.
He later was a pipefitter welder in New Mexico.
Survivors include a son, Louis Jr. of Los Alamos, N.M.; two daughters, Joan Clark of Buchanan, Mich., and Yvonne Rivera of Silverdale; a brother, Raymond of Los Lunas, N.M.; a sister, Nellie Young of Las Vegas; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a son, Robert.
A rosary and visitation are scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at Sandia Funeral Care in Albuquerque, N.M. A graveside service is planned for 1 p.m. Friday at Santa Fe National cemetery in New Mexico. Local arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Mary Hughes
Mary Ellen Hughes, 87, of Gorst died of natural causes Sept. 22, 2000, in Dallas, Ore.
She was born Jan. 10, 1913, in McMinnville, Ore., to George and Lena Belle (Niles) Starr. She graduated from Yakima High School in 1931.
She married
Marion E. Hughes on Nov. 4, 1933, in Yakima. He preceded her in death in 1971.
Mrs. Hughes worked in retail for 30 years, retiring in 1978.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed crocheting and traveling.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Helgerson of Dallas and Karol Hayes of Port Orchard; two sisters, Grace Rooker of Long Beach, Calif., and Gladys Rychman of Sumner; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a son, Richard L.; two brothers, Sid and Ralph Starr; three sisters, Bernice Larabee, Olive Cox and Opal Beach; and a grandson.
A funeral service is planned for 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Kitsap Lake Baptist Church. A graveside service will follow at Miller-Woodlawn cemetery.
