Gordon Harthorn
Gordon Milo Harthorn Jr., 78, of Bremerton died Sept. 22, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Aug. 11, 1922, in Seattle to Gordon and Gladys (Van Nostrin) Harthorn. He graduated from West Seattle High School in 1942 and attended two years of college.
Mr. Harthorn served in the Navy from 1942 to 1945, achieving the rank of electrician's mate 2nd Class. He received a purple heart and a World War II Victory Medal.
He married
Martha Jewell Collins on Aug. 10, 1946, in Seattle.
Mr. Harthorn worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as an electrician for 18 years and then as an engineering technician for 13 years. He retired in 1981.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Gordon III of Poulsbo, Griff of Bremerton and Jack of Gig Harbor; a brother, Robert of Morton; a sister, Barbara Vick of Morton; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Jones, in August.
A graveside inurnment service is planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ivy Green cemetery in Bremerton. Cremation took place at Cherry Grove Memorial Park with arrangements by Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Frank White
Francis A. "Frank" White, 84, of Bremerton died Sept. 19, 2000, at his home.
He was born Dec. 4, 1915, in Darrington to Charles and Iva Lee (Wilson) White. He graduated from high school in Darrington.
He married
Flora Underwood on Sept. 19, 1936.
Mr. White served in the Navy from 1943 to 1945.
He worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in the sheetmetal shop for 24 years.
Mr. White enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Bremerton.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Richard B. of Lynwood; a daughter, Nancy L. Hemstreet of Bremerton; a brother, Verco H. of Marysville; a sister, Florence Howell of Monroe, N.C.; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ferguson B., during World War II.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church. Burial will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Randy Patereau
Randy Lane Patereau, 48, of Bremerton died of cancer Sept. 24, 2000, at his home.
He was born Feb. 1, 1952, in Bakersfield, Calif., to Roy and Alma (Schoff) Patereau. He graduated from high school in Gilroy, Calif.
Mr. Patereau served in the Army in 1972.
He was a hearing instrument specialist for seven years.
Mr. Patereau enjoyed fishing and dominos. He was a member of the Christian church.
Survivors include his companion, Gerry (Munger) Nichols; a son, Sean of Tacoma; two daughters, Tiffany and Pamela, both of Tacoma; six brothers, Russ of Sun Valley, Idaho, and Rick, Ross, Roy, Rene and Roger, all of Gilroy; three sisters, Roxanne Pederson and Rosemary Lemos, both of Gilroy, and Rena Hudon of Vancouver.
A family memorial service is planned for Wednesday. Arrangements are by Kitsap Cremation and Burial Society.

John Valley
John A. Valley Sr., 67, of Poulsbo died Sept. 22, 2000, at his home.
He was born April 3, 1933, in Republic to Perry and Winona (Rowley) Valley.
He married
Lois Baker on Aug. 3, 1956.
Mr. Valley worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 29 years, retiring in 1993.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife; his mother of Allyn; a son, John A. Jr. of Seabeck; two daughters, Anita M. Churchill of Bonney Lake and Judi A. Balter of Poulsbo; three sisters, Betty E. Asplund of Gig Harbor, Beverly Shellgren and Barbara J. Wynn, both of Allyn; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Stan A.; a daughter, Lora L. Rose; and two brothers, Richard R. and David P.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Thursday at Haven of Rest Chapel in Gig Harbor. Inurnment will be at Haven of Rest Memorial Park.

George Rosebush
George Rosebush, 96, of Bainbridge Island died of pneumonia Sept. 24, 2000, on Bainbridge Island.
He was born June 12, 1904, in Minneapolis to John and Jewel Rosebush.
He married
Alma Phillips on Nov. 20, 1974, in Las Vegas.
Mr. Rosebush was a railroad engineer for 45 years, retiring in 1969.
He was a member of the Eagle Harbor Congregational Church, American Legion Post 172 and the Bainbridge Senior Center.
He is survived by his wife.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday at Wyatt House on Bainbridge Island. Inurnment will be at Kane cemetery with arrangements by Kass Funeral Home.

Marvin Graham
E. Marvin Graham, 93, of Bremerton died of natural causes Sept. 18, 2000, in Bremerton.
He was born May 12, 1907, in Santa Clara, Calif., to Arthur and Clara Graham. He graduated from Santa Clara High School in 1926, San Jose State College in 1930 and Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif.
He married
Mildred Beymer on July 15, 1934, in Riverside, Calif. She preceded him in death in 1992.
Mr. Graham was a chemical engineer in Agnew, Calif., for 35 years, retiring in 1962.
He was a member of the Methodist church, Masonic Lodge and American Orchid Society.
Survivors include two sons, John of Silverdale and Michael of Twin Falls, Idaho; a daughter, Martha Thomas of Spring Valley, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at Tracyton Methodist Church.

John Johnson
John S. Johnson, 81, of Bremerton, died Sept. 18, 2000, at Bremerton Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born June 1, 1919, in Philadelphia.
He married
Lorraine Bendon on April 24, 1943, in Jessup, Ga.
Mr. Johnson served in the Army from 1943 to 1945, achieving the rank of staff sergeant.
He worked in sales at Fleer's Candy Corporation for 17 years.
Mr. Johnson was a member of Lincoln Avenue Bible Church. He enjoyed politics and technology.
Survivors include his wife; and two sons, Steven of Bremerton and Paul of Seattle.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at Lincoln Avenue Bible Church.

Dorothy Kensmoe
Dorothy Elizabeth Kensmoe, age 78, of Poulsbo, died Sept. 21, 2000, at Martha and Mary Health Center. She was born Dec. 26, 1921, in Saskatchewan, Canada, to George and Alta Reinwald. When she was a small child, the family moved to Salem, Ore.; and she graduated from high school there. She married
Stewart "Jerry" Kensmoe in Portland, Jan. 19, 1944; and they moved to Poulsbo in 1952. He preceded her in death in 1992.
She retired from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, where she worked in the Supply Center.
She and Jerry were members of the Sons of Norway in Poulsbo for many years. She enjoyed crafts, gardening, boating, fishing and camping.
She made many friends during her stay at Martha and Mary, and her teasing will be missed by many.
A son, Bruce Kensmoe of Bremerton; a daughter, Sherry Schaer of Poulsbo; two grandchildren, Nicole Schaer and Andy Schaer; and a brother, Carl Reinwald of Salem, Ore., survive her.

Robert Bethel "Bob" Rodal
Robert Bethel Rodal, 87, lifetime native of Bainbridge Island died Friday, Sept. 15th at home.
He was born Jan. 13th, 1913, to Lucas and Sophie Rodal at Rolling Bay, Bainbridge Island. His father, Lucas, was builder and owner of Rolling Bay Central Store which is now Bay Hay and Feed. Lucas was also Post Master at that location.
Mr. Robert Rodal attended high school on Bainbridge Island and then the University of Washington where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.
He married
Marie Moss of Seattle.
Mr. Rodal served in World War II and the Korean War as a Captain in the U.S. Army Air Force.
He owned a Chrysler automobile dealership in Rolling Bay for years, owned and expanded The North Bainbridge Water Company, and was a charter member of the American Marine Bank where he served on the board of directors for 50 years.
He was for years very active in Rotary, and was a member of the Wing Point Golf and Country Club.
He was preceded in death by his brother Henry "Hank" Rodal. He is survived by his wife Marie Moss Rodal; sister Mabel Wallace; sister-in-law Maureen Rodal; nephew Arney Rodal; nieces Ruth Chalfant, Jean Burr, Janice Brummond, Judy Fernandez and Linda Misner. There are also eleven grandnephews and grandnieces and their families. He was an inspiration to his entire family.
A memorial service will be held at Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church on Saturday Sept. 30, at 2 p.m. Memorial donations to American Diabetes Association.
Ray Sherwood
Elvin "Ray" Sherwood, 83, of Bremerton died of a stroke Sept. 17, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Aug. 18, 1917, in Portland, Ore., to James and May (Ferrel) Sherwood. He graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1925.
Mr. Sherwood was a Merchant Marine for more than 10 years. He then worked for Union Carbide in California for more than
20 years, retiring in 1978.
He was a member of the Southern Baptist church and the Elks Club in Carson, Calif. He enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include two sons, Steve Sherwood of Sequim and Clayton Hill of Techapi, Calif.; two daughters, Anita Felix of Bakersfield, Calif., and Kitty Avis of Windemor, Calif.; a brother, Beryl Sherwood of Brownsville; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, MaryAnn (Hamilton) Sherwood in 1997; a daughter, Betty Schay; and a sister, Nadine Dunham.
A memorial graveside service will be held in Techapi. Local arrangements are under the direction of Kitsap Cremation and Burial Society.
