Arnold Moen
Arnold W. Moen, 78, of Bremerton died July 31, 1998.
He was born Feb. 5, 1920, in Lignite, N.D.
On June 8, 1942, he married
Darleen D. Davis in Port Orchard.
Mr. Moen made his living as an automotive mechanic. Most recently, he worked for AT&T; until his retirement in 1974.
Survivors include his wife; a son, John of Bremerton; a daughter, Geraldine Quam of West Seattle; a brother, Stanley of Port Orchard; two sisters, Eunice Larson of Manchester and Lorraine Giertz of Port Orchard; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Aug. 3 and from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 4 at Rill Chapel.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Aug. 4 at Sunset Lane cemetery, Port Orchard.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

M. Marie Spaulding
M. Marie Spaulding, 94, of Port Orchard died July 30, 1998.
She was born Sept. 22, 1903, in Oklahoma.
Mrs. Spaulding was a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Arthur Miller of Texas; three brothers, Orie and Lonnie Smalley, both of Port Orchard, and Gene Smalley of Puyallup; and one grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Spaulding who died in 1979.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Aug. 3 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 4 at Rill Chapel.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 5 at Rill Chapel.

Ella Walker
Ella Elizabeth Walker, 84, of Bremerton died July 26, 1998, at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
She was born Feb. 25, 1914, in Seattle. She graduated from Kent High School.
Mrs. Walker was a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Daniel Wadsworth; a daughter, Sandra Olson of Lynnwood; four stepdaughters, Cynthia Lesh of Quilcene, Joan Hartmann of Benson, Ariz., Pat Palmage of Kingston, and Charlotte Walker of Gig Harbor; two stepsons, Joel Wadsworth of Belfair and Fred Walker Jr. of Sequim; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 1 at Lewis Funeral Chapel with a reception to follow.
Steven Wolfe
Steven L. Wolfe, 43, a native of Bremerton, died July 28, 1998.
Mr. Wolfe made his living as a deputy sheriff for Kitsap County for 21 years. He attended the Life Center Church of Tacoma.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce E. Wolfe of Bremerton; his mother, Marilyn Bartlett of Tacoma; his stepfather, Elmer Bartlett of Tacoma; and his sister, Melissa Wagner of Graham. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Wolfe, in 1996.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Aug. 3 at Lincoln Avenue Bible Church, with entombment at Mountain View cemetery.

Bertha Fitz-Dinsmore
Bertha Fitz-Dinsmore, 84, of Bremerton died July 29, 1998.
She was born March 8, 1914, in Seattle. She was a high school graduate.
Mrs. Fitz-Dinsmore was a homemaker.
Survivors include three sons, Norman Jr., Sam of Silverdale and James of Bremerton; her "favorite" daughter, Janice Batt of Bremerton; a brother, Owen Turner of Bothell, three sisters, Beatrice McElroy and Mary Williams, both of Lake City, and Sue Davis of Burien; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Aug. 3 at Miller-Woodlawn Chapel.

I.B. Chapman
I.B. Chapman, 83, of Port Orchard died July 30, 1998, after a battle with cancer.
He was born Jan. 9, 1915, in Sumas.
Mr. Chapman served in the Army from 1942 to 1945. He later made his living in the logging field, retiring in the early 1980s.
He was a lifetime member of the Mount Baker Motorcycle Club in which he was given No. 15 as his personal number.
Survivors include a stepson, Norman Storm of Yakima; a stepdaughter, Barbara Johnson of Port Orchard; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Chapman and by his granddaughter, Joanne Ebberly.
There will be no services.
Cremation will be under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kitsap County or the American Cancer Society.
Betty Kennedy
Betty Jane Kennedy, 58, of Bremerton died July 29, 1998, as a result of complications after major surgery.
She was born Feb. 17, 1940, in Denton, Texas, to Mary Jane (Bramlett) Sparkman and Jerry Sparkman.
She graduated from Belair High School in Denton, Texas, in 1958. She later attended Olympic College in Bremerton.
She served in the Navy in 1962 and 1963. She was stationed at Lemoore Naval Air Station and achieved a rank of E3. Prior to coming to Kitsap County in 1980, Betty worked at the Republic Bank in San Pedro, Calif., and she made her living for the past 17 years as a bearing technician/operations officer at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
She was a member of Abundant Life Four Square Church and an active member of the choir.
Survivors include her mother, Mary Jane Hughart of Bella Vista, Ark.; a son, Tim of Bremerton; a daughter, Kelly Garrett of Chula Vista, Calif.; a brother, James Sparkman of Marina Del Rey, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Teresa Kennedy of Bremerton and Lauryn Garrett of Chula Vista, Calif.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Aug. 1 at Chico Alliance Church. Interment
will be at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Edmund Schroeder
Edmund Lewis Schroeder, 78, of Bremerton died July 30, 1998.
He was born July 15, 1920, in St. Paul, Minn. to Caroline (Theresh) Schroeder and Gustav E. Schroeder.
Mr. Schroeder served in the Navy during World War II from 1941 to 1945. He worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 30 years, retiring in 1970.
He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 149.
Survivors include three brothers, Donald Schroeder of Casa Grande, Ariz., Herb Efta and Gerald Efta; and four sisters, Carol Lambert, Doris Perl, Dorothy Snyder and Marjorie Goodford.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Aug. 4 at Forest Lawn cemetery. Interment
will be at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Gerald Murphy
Gerald A. Murphy, 68, of Port Orchard died Sept. 24, 1998, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 15, 1930, in North Bend to Thomas and Bertha (Florence) Murphy. He graduated from West Bremerton High School in 1949. On July 19, 1952, he married
Delores Brose in Port Orchard.
Mr. Murphy served in the National Guard from 1948 to 1990. He served at the Manchester Fuel Depot, Pier 91 in Seattle and at Fort Lawton and Camp Murray. He retired in 1985 from his career as an automobile and truck mechanic.
Survivors include his wife, Delores Murphy; sons Lawrence O. Murphy of Phoenix and Gerald T. Murphy of Port Orchard; a daughter, Jeannette Austill of Richland; a sister, Molly Leatherman of Port Orchard; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 29 at Rill Chapel. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Sept. 30 at Sunset Lane cemetery. Interment
is at Pendleton-Gilchrist at Rill Chapel.
Theodore Sladek
Theodore R. Sladek, 93, of Shelton died Sept. 21, 1998, at Firlane Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Nov. 21, 1904, in Tacoma.
On June 16, 1928, he married
Lotta Mae Young in Tacoma. She preceded him in death in 1984.
Mr. Sladek made his living for more than 31 years as a welder in Shop 26 at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He retired in 1961.
He was a member of NARFE and AARP.
Survivors include a son, Theodore of Tacoma; two daughters, Barbara Parker of Deer Park and Patricia Hougen of Spokane; a sister, Thelma Caldwell of Hoquiam; his ex-wife and special friend, Connie Tallbatt Sladek of Shelton; 12 grandchildren, Carl Willmott Jr. of Puyallup, Victoria Noggle of Newport, Robert Foster of Spokane, Patrick Foster of Wallace, Idaho, James Johnston of Spokane, Michelle Boehm of Alaska, Ronald Hougen of Spokane, Richard Hougen of Spokane, Clifford Johnston of Vancouver, Mark Sla dek of Tacoma, Tod Sladek of Anaheim, Calif., and Christa Snyder of Gig Harbor; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Oct. 3 at Rill Chapel. Interment
at Sunset Lane cemetery will follow the service and reception.
