Jerry Hanson
Jerry L. Hanson, 56, of Tahuya died Aug. 19, 2000, at the University of Washington Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 8, 1943, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, to Jasper and Colleen (Stoddard) Hanson. He graduated in 1963 from East High School in Bremerton.
He married
Joyce Parsons on Feb. 14, 1964, in Bremerton.
Mr. Hanson worked with sheet metal for 35 years, retiring in 1999. He enjoyed camping and boating with his family.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Linda Kempf of Bremerton, Sandy Hanson of Belfair and Shelly O'Neill of Port Orchard; a brother, Allen of Bremerton; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Mary Theler Community Center in Belfair.

Lois Burke
Former Belfair resident Lois Ann Burke, 63, of Olympia died of Alzheimer's disease Aug. 18, 2000, at Mother Joseph Care Center.
She was born Dec. 11, 1936, in Sault Sainte Marie, Mich., to Joseph and Ellen (Cormier) Porter.
She married
Ronald Burke in 1957.
Mrs. Burke worked in bakeries and managed a number of cafes. She was a member of Allyn Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include three daughters, Debbie (Nations) Bell and Brenda Marquez, both of Olympia, and Lori Yemm of Ocean Shores; two brothers, Jerry of Tooele, Utah and Robert of Swartz Creek, Mich.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Donald, in 1981.
A celebration of her life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the home of Jerry and Debbie Bell, 707 Fairview St. SE in Olympia. Inurnment will take place at Olympic Memorial Gardens in Tumwater. Arrangements are under the direction of Olympic Funeral Home of Tumwater.

Roger Query
Roger Boyd Query, 47, of Port Orchard died Aug. 18, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Sept. 11, 1952, in Bremerton, to Boyd and Verdene Query.
He worked with Kitsap County District 3.
He enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include his mother of Port Orchard; a son, Adam Boyd of Pullman; and three sisters, Barbara Dirks-Peterson, Ardith Fowler and Sharon Hunt of Melbourne, Fla. He was preceded in death by his father in 1985.
There will be no services, at his request. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Kathryn Powell
Former Port Orchard resident Kathryn Marie Powell, 99, of Burlington died Aug. 15, 2000, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tacoma.
She was born Oct. 14, 1900, in Edgemont, S.D., to Clyde and Emma Bailey.
She married
Lawrence C. Powell on Nov. 11, 1918, in South Dakota. He preceded her in death in 1969.
Mrs. Powell was a homemaker. She loved painting and quilting. She was a member of the Christian church in Mount Vernon.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth of Port Orchard and Larry of Yakutat, Alaska; three daughters, Elmyra of La Conner, Inez of Burlington and Jeanne of Longbranch; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, James, in 1989.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church in Mount Vernon. Arrangements are under the direction of Blietz Funeral Home in Seattle.
Bernadette Freeman
Bernadette L. Freeman, 39, of Bremerton died
Aug. 12, 2000, at her home.
She was born Dec. 2, 1960, in Stuttgart, Germany, to Ervin and Madeline (Mogg) Clark. She graduated in
1979 from Lathrop High School in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Mrs. Freeman was a native youth coordinator for the Fairbanks Native Association for five years. She enjoyed native handcrafts.
Survivors include her parents of Bremerton; a daughter, Michelle Freeman of Fairbanks; two brothers, Ervin of Bremerton and Gerhard of Seattle; three sisters, Theresa Carraher, Jean Marie Andersen of Fairbanks and MaryAnn Teegardin of Covington, Wash. She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane Freeman, in 1998.
A family gathering was held this past weekend. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Ruth Brennan
Ruth Elizabeth Brennan, 94, of Bremerton died
Aug. 20, 2000, at Bremerton Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born April 3, 1906, in Hawarden, Iowa, to Levi and Elizabeth (Blake) Dickinson. She graduated from Hawarden High School.
She married
Michael J. Brennan on April 3, 1944, in Missoula, Mont. He preceded her in death in 1965.
Mrs. Brennan was a homemaker. She enjoyed traveling the world and watching golf. She was a member of the Catholic church.
Survivors include a stepson, Michael Jr. of Illinois; and a niece, Miriam Rice of Bremerton. She was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Levi Dickinson; and three sisters, Cleo Koobs, Hazel Nelson and Bertice Schiefen.
A tea in her honor is planned for 2:30 p.m. Friday at the home of Miriam Rice. Inurnment will be at Sunset Lane cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Smith Hartley
Former Bremerton resident Smith W. Hartley, 61, of Zachary, La., died from complications following gallbadder surgery Aug. 7, 2000, in Baton Rouge, La.
He was born April 6, 1939, in La Marque, Texas, to Smith and Nora (Kohlmann) Hartley. He graduated from high school in Texas and from Texas Tech University in Lubeock, Texas, in 1961.
Mr. Hartley served in the Navy from 1962 to 1965, achieving the rank of lieutenant.
He married
Ernestine Dailly on Aug. 1, 1965, in Bremerton.
He worked for Texaco in Washington, Texas, Australia and Thailand, retiring in 1997.
He enjoyed sailing and golfing.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Smith of New York and Bobby of San Diego; five daughters, Kelley Odom of Jackson, La., Karen Benater of The Woodlands, Texas, Katie Patterson of Prairieville, La., Kimi Hartley of Baton Rouge and Kari Hartley of Zachary, La.; two brothers, Johnny of Galveston, Texas, and Harry of Texas City, Texas; three sisters, Betty Markovich of Galveston, Sue Willis of Hitchcock, Texas, and Faye Trevino of Texas City; and four grandchildren.
Funeral and graveside services were held in Zachary, La.

Glenn Buckner
Glenn Stewart "Buck" Buckner, 83, of Bremerton died of a stroke Aug. 20, 2000, in Bremerton.
He was born March 13, 1917, in Ontario, Ore., to William and Maybell (Stewart) Buckner. He graduated from Bremerton High School.
He married
Leoda A. Senn on April 10, 1938, in Seattle.
Mr. Buckner owned B. B. and M., a sporting goods store in Richland, for
23 years, retiring in 1979.
He was a member of the Baptist church and the Elks and Lions clubs in Bremerton.
Survivors include his wife; a son, James of Fargo, N.D.; a daughter, Pamela Hoglen of Kennewick; two brothers, Robert of Indianapolis and Eugene of Goldendale; two sisters, Evelyn Glenn of Tacoma and Bernice Fry of Bremerton; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Carol Massett
Carol J. Massett, 62, of Belfair died Aug. 19, 2000, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
She was born Nov. 24, 1937, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to Leo and Beatrice (Barker) Jamison. She graduated in 1955 from Washington Lee High School in Alexandria, Va., and in 1958 from Strayer Business College in Washington, D.C.
She married
Frank M. Massett on Feb. 7, 1970, in Herudon, Va.
Mrs. Massett was a bookkeeper for 18 years, retiring in 1983. She enjoyed reading and camping.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Gregory of Belfair; and a brother, Ernest Jamison, of Aransas Pass, Texas.

Ellis Roscow
Ellis John Roscow, 80, of Belfair died Aug. 19, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born April 7, 1920, in Pawtucket, R.I., to Joseph and Ann (Milligan) Roscow. He graduated in 1938 from Cleveland High School in Seattle and attended the University of Washington.
He married
Virginia Baer on Sept. 12, 1942, in Seattle.
Mr. Roscow was an aeronautical engineer at The Boeing Company for 40 years, retiring in 1980.
He enjoyed gardening and living on Hood Canal.
Survivors include his wife of Port Angeles; two sons, Bruce of Columbus, Ohio, and Richard of Kent; a daughter, Barbara Cammack of Port Angeles; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Cremation will be at Poulsbo Mortuary. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
