Mary Izzo
Mary E. Izzo, 70, of Bremerton died of cancer Aug. 17, 2000, at her home.
She was born Jan. 27, 1930, in Walla Walla to Roy and Hazel (Bumcrott) Smith.
She married
Joseph Izzo on Dec. 18, 1970, in Bremerton. He preceded her in death in 1999.
Mrs. Izzo was a material management specialist at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
She enjoyed crossword puzzles and gardening.
Survivors include four sons, Terry Leno of Centralia, Robert Leno of Troutdale, Ore., James Leno of Seattle and Timothy Leno of Bremerton; a daughter, Sharon Robinett of Snohomish; a brother, Roland Smith of Milton; a sister, Betty Campana of Bremerton;
14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Roy "Bud" Smith; two sisters, Peggy Hooper and Hazel Wise; and a daughter, Brenda Diane.
A funeral service is planned for 3 p.m. today at Miller Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Robert Dowell
Robert Dowell, 80, of Bremerton died Aug. 17, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Sept. 8, 1919, in New York to Johnathon and Marie (Viertel) Dowell. He graduated from Bremerton High School.
Mr. Dowell served in the Army Aircorps from 1940 to 1946, achieving the rank of master sergeant. He received a bronze star and seven bronze battle stars.
He worked in transportation at Keyport for more than 30 years, retiring in 1982.
He married
Mary J. Hudson on Aug. 11, 1990, in Bremerton.
Mr. Dowell was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks in Bremerton.
He is survived by his wife; two stepsons, Burt Thatcher of Bremerton and Jack Thatcher of Denver, Colo.; a daughter, Linda of Bremerton; four stepdaughters, Glenna Veach and Carey Thatcher, both of Bremerton, Sandy Thatcher of Seattle and Kathy Larson of Weaverville, Calif.; a brother, Dick of La Habra, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Steve.
A funeral service is planned for 1 p.m. Monday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Interment
will take place at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Louise Wanecek
Louise J. Wanecek, 87, of Bremerton died of pneumonia Aug. 18, 2000, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center.
She was born April 19, 1913, in Port Angeles to William and Cecelia (Richter) Reis. She attended Port Angeles High School.
She married
Tony Wanecek on March 2, 1929. He preceded her in death in 1986.
Mrs. Wanecek was a Harrison Memorial Hospital aide for eight years, retiring in 1979.
She was a member of the Catholic church and the Legion of Mary. She enjoyed reading.
Survivors include two daughters, Tonia of Yakima and Cecelia Hamlin of Bremerton; a brother, William Reis of Bremerton; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Parish. A rosary will follow at 9:30 a.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment
will take place at Ivy Green cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

James Henry
James Earl Henry, 51, of Silverdale died of cancer Aug. 17, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born July 18, 1949, in Conway, Ark., to James A. and Zelda (Sohn) Henry. He graduated in 1967 from Zillah High School in Zillah, from Olympic College and from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard Apprenticeship Program.
He married
Diana Thomas on July 27, 1974, in Buena, Wash.
Mr. Henry served in the Army and later was an inspector at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 29 years.
He enjoyed carpentry and stained glass artistry. He was a member of Silverdale Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; mother of Zillah; a daughter, Megan of Silverdale; a brother, Reed of Black Diamond; a sister, Patricia Morrow of Sunnyside; and a grandmother, Grace Henry of Toppenish.
Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at
6 p.m. at Silverdale Baptist Church. Interment
will take place in Zillah. Arrangements are under the direction of Valley Hills Mortuary in Zillah.
Genevieve Wardin
Genevieve G. Wardin, 90, of Bremerton died Aug. 17, 2000, in Bremerton.
She was born Dec. 13, 1909, in Seattle to Benjamin and Edna (Hall) Grimes. She graduated in 1927 from Stadium High School in Tacoma and in 1934 from the College of Puget Sound, now University of Puget Sound.
She married
Stanley E. Wardin in 1935. He preceded her in death in 1998.
Mrs. Wardin worked with her husband for 40 years at Peninsula Stationers and later at Harbor Books.
She was a member of the Associated Auxiliary of University Women, the Bremerton Garden Club and the First Church of Christ Scientist of Bremerton.
Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Mueller of Bremerton and Joy Dunning of Port Orchard; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A remembrance tea for family and friends is planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Fireside Lounge of The Willows, 3201 Pine Road in Bremerton. Entombment will take place at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

William VanBuskirk
William Anthony VanBuskirk, 71, of Port Orchard died Aug. 13, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Sept. 29, 1928, in Vancouver, Wash., to Ralph and Francis (Harris) VanBuskirk.
He served in the Navy during World War II.
Mr. VanBuskirk was a journeyman mechanic in California for 20 years, retiring in the 1980s.
He enjoyed reading and handicrafts. He was a member of the Longbranch Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Rene Rowell of Bremerton and Debbie Noreen Snyders of Port Angeles; four brothers, Marvin of Chitna, Alaska, Gilbert of San Jose, Calif., Ernie of Silverdale and Richard Porter of Shelton; two sisters, Peggy Macy of Valdez, Alaska, and Barbara Stephens of Tacoma; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys, in 1992; his parents, Ralph VanBuskirk and Francis Stephens; two brothers, Jack and Floyd; and a sister, Dorothy Smith.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at Neighborhood Christian Center in Bremerton. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Rita Miller
Former Bremerton resident Rita Margaret Miller, 92, died June 12, 2000, in Grants Pass, Ore.
She was born July 22, 1907, in Natton, Alberta, Canada.
She married
F. Edward Miller on Nov. 23, 1935, in Spokane. He preceded her in death in 1985.
Mrs. Miller lived in Bremerton from 1942 until 1999, when she moved to Grants Pass. She enjoyed sewing and traveling each winter to Mesa, Ariz., and was a Protestant church member.
She is survived by a daughter, Marcia M. (Hilstad) Bradshaw of Cave Junction, Ore.; four brothers; a sister, Velma Shepherd of Poulsbo; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a sister.
Entombment took place in Rogue River, Ore.
Deniece Butler
Deniece S. Butler, 43, of Port Orchard died Aug. 13, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born March 30, 1957, in Bremerton, to Ned and Karen (Fowler) Butler.
She was an emergency medical technician with Fire District 7 while in her 20's.
Ms. Butler enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her children and granddaughter.
She is survived by her parents of Port Orchard; two sons, Richard Abbott and Robert Gibbs, both of Port Orchard; two daughters, Deanne Youderian of Bremerton and Deana Abbott of Port Orchard; three brothers, Dennis of Florida and Mark and Richard, both of Bremerton; two sisters, Roxanne Hike and Nancy Butler, both of Port Orchard; and a granddaughter.
Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A funeral service is planned for 1 p.m. Tuesday at Rill Chapel. Interment
will take place at Forest Lawn cemetery in Bremerton.
Linda Miller
Linda H. Miller, 74, of Port Orchard died Aug. 16, 2000, of natural causes in Bremerton.
She was born July 14, 1926, in Golden Valley, N.D., to John and Martha (Weidner) Schwartzman.
She married
Paul Miller on Nov. 7, 1942, in North Dakota.
Mrs. Miller was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening and cooking and was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Port Orchard.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Bob of Olalla and Paul of Fox Island; five sisters, Olga Kellogg of Vashon Island, Ida Betz of Glenwood Spring, Colo., Ann Weil and Freida Tschaekofske, both of Hazen, N.D., and Marty Collett of Port Orchard; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Ivan, in 1999; and two brothers, Richard and Albert Schwartzman.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A funeral service will follow visitation on Monday. Interment
will take place at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.
Dellwood Popp
Dellwood Paul Popp, 74, of Hansville died of liver failure. Aug. 13, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Jan. 6, 1926, in Wapheton, N.D., to Paul and Alvina (Beling) Popp. He graduated in 1944 from high school in Hankinson, N.D.and attended two years of college in Seattle.
He married
Delores (Ropenan) Popp on Oct. 4, 1947, in Breckenridge, Minn.
Mr. Popp served in the Coast Guard and the Merchant Marines. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
He was a manager at Napa Auto Parts Store in West Seattle for 25 years. In 1975 he became an instructor at South Seattle Community College. He retired in 1987.
Mr. Popp was a member of the American Legion and Driftwood Key Association.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jeffrey of Bellingham and John of Port Townsend; a daughter, Lexie Jorgensen of Renton; two sisters, Ellner Peterson of Port Orchard and Alva Scheller of Hankinson; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon and Orville; and two sisters, Fern and Ruby.
Visitation is scheduled at 11 a.m. Monday at Marlatt Funeral Home, 713 N. Central in Kent. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. A graveside service be at Tahoma National cemetery, 18600 SE 240th St. in Kent.
