Orval Kolden
Orval J. Kolden, 89, of Brownsville died Aug. 5, 2000, at his home of natural causes.
He was born July 8, 1911, in Eleva, Wis., to Julius and Clara (Christian-son) Kolden. He attended Osseo High School in Osseo, Wis.
He married
Dorothy (Youderian) Kolden in 1934. She preceded him in death in May.
Mr. Kolden worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard from 1943 to 1945 and again from 1950 to 1970. He retired as a joiner.
He enjoyed building toys in his workshop for his grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Bill of Lynnwood and Mike of Brownsville; and a daughter, Karen Kolden of Brownsville. He was preceded in death by a son, Dan, in 1992; and a daughter, Judy DeFlyer, in June of this year.
A gathering of family and friends is planned from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Kolden home, 1950 NE Madison Road in Poulsbo. Cremation will take place at Cherry Grove Memorial Park with inurnment at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Gerald Peabody
Gerald D. Peabody, 53, of Bremerton died Aug. 14, 2000, in Bremerton of cancer.
He was born Feb. 16, 1947, in Seattle, to Fred and Dorothy (Drisko) Peabody.
He served in the Army from 1966 to 1968, achieving the rank of spec-ialist 4th class.
He was a janitor. He enjoyed bowling and playing pool.
Survivors include a brother, Ronald of Puyallup; and two sisters, Pam Alverez of Cypress, Calif., and Linda Christensen of Wall, N.J.
A committal service is planned for 1:30 p.m. Thurs-day at Tahoma National cemetery.

Delvin Lawlis
Delvin Ray Lawlis, 46, of Poulsbo died Aug. 12, 2000, at Harrison Hospital following a short illness.
He was born Dec. 9, 1953, in Rotan, Texas, to Willard and Faye (Norris) Lawlis. He graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1972 and attended Olympic College.
Mr. Lawlis worked as a meat cutter for Albertson's Food Center in Port Orchard.
He enjoyed watching and following major sports.
Survivors include his mother of Poulsbo; two sons, Justin of Poulsbo and Roger of Oklahoma City; and a brother, Ron of Austin, Texas.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. today at Christ Memorial Church in Poulsbo. Cremation will take place at Cherry Grove Memorial Park. Arrange-ments are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, "The Stone Chapel."
Lucille Adair
Lucille Gertrude Adair, 84, of Bremerton died Aug. 12, 2000, at Martha & Mary Health Care Center in Poulsbo.
She was born Nov. 3, 1915, in Wilbur, Ore., to Harry and Tennie (Russell) Baird. She graduated from Wilbur High School in 1933.
She married
James Adair on April 27, 1934. He preceded her in death in 1981.
Mrs. Adair was a housewife who enjoyed gardening and collecting rocks. She was a member of the Brownsville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Joanne Forbes of Bremerton; a sister, Doris Vincent of Silverdale; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was pre-ceded in death by two sons, James in 1973 and Richard in 1974; and a brother, Harry.
There will be no services at her request. Inurnment will take place at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Gordon Williams
Former Kitsap County United Way executive director Gordon B. Williams, 85, of Bremerton died Aug. 10, 2000, at Naval Hospital Bremerton.
He was born April 1, 1915, in Massillon, Ohio, to John S. and Mary (Bradwell) Williams. He graduated from Washington High School in Massillon in 1933, from the United States Naval Academy in 1938, and from Boston University in 1958.
Mr. Williams served in the Navy from 1938 to 1966, achieving the rank of captain. He received silver and bronze stars.
He married
Muriel McMillan on Dec. 5, 1940, in Long Beach, Calif.
He was the business manager for Olympic College for three years in the mid-1960s and the executive director for United Way of Kitsap County for nine years, retiring in 1979.
Mr. Williams was a past president of the Bremerton Rotary, past president of the Kitsap Golf and Country Club, past president of the Retired Officers Association and a lifetime member of the American Legion.
He is survived by a son, Stanley G. of Bremerton; three daughters, Maureen Zimmerman of Seattle, Suzanne Cannon of Bremerton, and Julia M. of Alexandria, Va.; and six grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Chapel. A funeral service is planned for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Summit Avenue Presbyterian Church. Interment
will take place at 1 p.m. at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Lila Hagen
Lila Naomi Hagen, 85, of Port Orchard died Aug. 9, 2000, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center in Bremerton.
She was born Jan. 29, 1915, in Warroad, Minn., to Newton and Marguerite (Van Valen) Harris. She graduated from high school in Warroad.
She married
Lawrence O. Hagen in 1933 in Minnesota. He preceded her in death in 1964.
Mrs. Hagen was a homemaker and member of the Lutheran church. She enjoyed dancing and walking outdoors.
She is survived by two sons, Lawrence Jr. of Kent and Robert of Bremerton; three daughters, Juanita Warren of Helena, Mont., Patricia Brooling of Bremerton and Barbara Hagen of Bainbridge Island; a brother, Keith Harris of Portland; a sister, Millie of Oregon; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Hicks, in 1989.
A graveside service is planned for 1 p.m. Monday at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Dorothy Haydon
Dorothy E. Haydon, 75, of Bremerton died Aug. 9, 2000, at her home.
She was born May 29, 1925, in Philadelphia to George and Anna (Stepanik) Unruh. She graduated from Bremerton High School.
Ms. Haydon served in the Air Force from 1943 to 1945.
She was a machinist for
30 years, most recently at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. She retired in 1988.
Ms. Haydon enjoyed boating and camping.
Survivors include her caregiver, Joyce Salvagno; and a brother, George Unruh, of Bremerton.
A private service will be held at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Bill Stryker
Cecil W. "Bill" Stryker, 72, of Purdy died Aug. 9, 2000, at Port Orchard Care Center.
He was born April 26, 1928, in Monmouth, Ore., to Marcus and Martha (Hannum) Stryker.
He married
Mary Humes on Sept. 2, 1955, in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Stryker served in the Navy for
20 years, retiring in 1967.
He then was a machinist at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1981. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors include a daughter, Debra Stryker of Purdy; a brother, Jim Stryker of Coos Bay, Ore.; a sister, Alice Reardon of Saint Stephen, S.C.; and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by a son, Mark, in 1983; and a grandson in 1978.
A private inurnment will take place at Twin Firs cemetery in Belfair. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Bettye Denton
Bettye Jean Denton, 51, of Bremerton died of a heart attack Aug. 7, 2000, in Bremerton.
She was born Sept. 9, 1948, in Ocala, Fla., to Frank Williams and Bessie Jackson.
She married
Jacob Denton on May 13, 1976, in Baltimore.
Survivors include three sons, Roderick of Philadelphia, Richard of Bremerton and Ronald Kendrick of Ocala; two daughters, Wanda Kendrick and Jackie Moore, both of Bremerton; three brothers, Ronnie Rawls and Alphonso Rawls, both of Clewiston, Fla., and Ivory Jackson of Ocala; seven sisters, Esther Richard and Fannie Smith, both of Ocala, Lillian Nichols, Gloria White and Moselle Lewis, all of Philadelphia, Christine Gibson of Miami and Inez Sayer of Stanford, Conn.; and 17 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother; and four brothers, Eldridge, Alexander, Wardell, and Frank.
Visitation is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. Funeral and graveside services will follow.
Dorothy Wilkins
Dorothy M. Wilkins, 76, of Belfair died Aug. 8, 2000, at her home.
She was born May 2, 1924, in Edgerton, Alberta, Canada, to William and Ethel (Hallett) Spornitz.
Mrs. Wilkins was a member of the Pinochle Club in Belfair and volunteered for North Mason County Food Bank for 18 years.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda Wilkins Delarosa of Bellevue; two sisters, Gladys Saker of Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, and Alice Fuller of Wainwright, Alberta, Canada; and one grandson. She was pre-ceded in death by her husband, William C. Wilkins, in 1999.
A funeral service is planned for 2 p.m. Monday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. Interment
will take place at Tahoma National cemetery.

Verna Read
Verna Audrene Read, 83, of Poulsbo died Aug. 10, 2000, at Martha and Mary Health Care Center.
She was born Dec. 7, 1916, in Portales, N.M., to Tomas Berry and Salley (Cox) Baker. She attended high school in Corona, Calif.
She married
George E. Read on April 1, 1933, in Santa Ana, Calif. He preceded her in death in 1987.
Mrs. Read was a homemaker.
She is survived by two sons, Millard of Kingston and Steven of Olalla; two sisters, Connie Herkelrath of Corona and Geneva Baumann of Georgia; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Junior Baker.
Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. today at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
