John Nicholson
John Russell Nicholson, 77, of Hansville died of an extended illness Aug. 4, 2000, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center.
He was born Dec. 7, 1922, in Spokane to Carl and Marguerite (Grothe) Nicholson. He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane in 1940 and from Washington State University in Pullman.
Mr. Nicholson served in the Army during World War II.
He married
Jeanne Elmslie on Feb. 7, 1973, in Seattle.
He was a banker for
25 years, retiring in 1985.
He enjoyed fishing and gardening and was a Protestant church member.
Survivors include his wife; a stepdaughter, Shellie Hermans of Jackson Hole, Wyo.; a sister, Ellen Smoot of Big Springs, Texas; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Monday at the Hansville Community Church. Cremation will take place at Poulsbo Mortuary. Arrangements are by Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.

Pie Harrington
Marvin B. "Pie" Harrington, 76, of Bremerton died Aug. 5, 2000, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation of Oyster Bay due to a stroke.
He was born Jan. 20, 1924, in Kennewick to George and Nellie (Bishop) Harrington. He graduated from Bremerton High School in 1943.
Mr. Harrington served in the Marine Corps during World War II.
He married
Floreine Laes on Aug. 5, 1943.
He was an electrician in the quality assurance department at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 31 years, retiring in 1974.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Margo McKiernan of Bremerton; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother, George.

Anne Griffith
Anne Marie Griffith, 66, of Bremerton died of cancer Aug. 4, 2000, in Bellevue.
She was born Dec. 4, 1933, in Fairmont, Minn., to Aaron and Matilda Routier. She attended Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School in San Diego.
She married
John Griffith on Jan. 30, 1974.
Mrs. Griffith worked at Safeway in Port Orchard for 10 years, retiring in 1995.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Michael McClister of Seattle and William and Daniel McClister, both of San Diego; two daughters, Julianne Haney of Layton, Utah, and Jeanette McClister of Bremerton; a brother, William Routier of St. Paul, Minn; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters.
A funeral service is planned for 1 p.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Church, 4250 Pine Road in Bremerton.

Harold Johnson
Harold F. Johnson, 87, of Chehalis died July 25, 2000, at his home.
He was born Aug. 14, 1912, in Bigfork, Minn., to Sven Jonas and Carrie (Ellefson) Johnson.
He married
Lillian DeVore on March 25, 1946. She preceded him in death in 1987.
Mr. Johnson was a welder at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1979.
He is survived by a son, Gordon of Chehalis; five daughters, Char LaRoque of Montana, Jeaninne Wahl and Darlynn Bowers, both of Chehalis, Maribeth Jorstad and Laurel Dailey, both of Tahuya, 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by his brother, Chris.
A funeral service took place July 29 at Full Gospel Lighthouse in Chehalis.
Carolyn Stephenson
Carolyn H. Stephenson, 63, of Olalla died Aug. 4, 2000, in Olalla.
She was born March 19, 1937, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Robert Stephenson; two daughters, Catherine Fogerson of Olalla and Cynthia Anderson of Apple Valley, Calif.; a brother, William English of Lucerne Valley, Calif.; a sister, Elizabeth Gatlin of Port Orchard; and six grandchildren.
A funeral graveside service is planned for 4 p.m. Wednesday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Rumina Bondurant
Rumina Elizabeth Bondurant, 84, of Bremerton died Aug. 3, 2000, at Forest Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Sept. 23, 1915, in Rapelje, Mont., to Frank R. and Ada M. (Wood) Pearson.
She married
Victor N. Bondurant in 1936 in Columbus, Mont. He preceded her in death in 1983.
Mrs. Bondurant owned a telephone company in Montana and was a rancher.
She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 5878 and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary 69, both in Tenino.
Survivors include four sons, Roy of Mount Vernon, Larry of Galesburg, Ill., Frank of San Diego and Keith of Bremerton; a daughter, Rumina White of Augusta, Ga.; a sister, Octavia Bondurant of Livingston, Mont.; 17 grandchildren;
and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at Montesano Baptist Church. Interment
will take place at the Rapelje cemetery in Montana. Arrangements are by Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Hap Goyne
Milford "Hap" Goyne, 80, of Bremerton died of natural causes Aug. 5, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Oct. 8, 1919, in Wilmont, Ark., to George and Cleavie (Slaughter) Goyne. He attended Wilmar High School in Wilmont.
Mr. Goyne served in the Army from 1940 to 1945, achieving the rank of sergeant. He received an European/African/Middle Eastern Service Medal and an Asiatic Pacific Service Medal.
He married
Vela M. Burns on July 14, 1943, in Monticello, Ark. She preceded him in death in 1998.
Mr. Goyne was a mailman for 35 years, retiring in 1976. He was a past master of Oxnard Masonic Lodge 3 and a member of Steadfast Masonic Lodge 216 and Olympic View Assembly of God Church.
He is survived by a daughter, Rosie Johnson of Poulsbo; a brother, Clell of Fresno, Calif.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Visitation is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow.

Billie Burwell
Whilla C. "Billie" Burwell, 100, of Bremerton died Aug. 6, 2000, at Northwoods Lodge.
She was born July 7, 1900, in Lehi, Utah, to William and Lucy Ann Gough. She graduated from high school in Yakima in 1918.
She married
G. Graham Burwell on June 20, 1920, in Yakima. He preceded her in death in 1977.
Mrs. Burwell was a homemaker and enjoyed yardwork.
Survivors include a son, William "Bill" of Bremerton; a sister, Orreta Crabtree of Seattle; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Betty Nysetvold
Betty Mae Nysetvold, 74, of Bremerton died of cancer Aug. 6, 2000, at Northwoods Lodge.
She was born July 11, 1926, in Glenwood, Minn., to Alpha and Edwin Wien. She graduated from Valley City High School in Valley City, N.D., in 1944.
She married
Paul J. Nysetvold on Jan. 2, 1947, in Twin Valley, Minn. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Nysetvold was a grocery checker at many local grocery stores and taught grocery checking at Olympic College.
She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. She enjoyed building and remodeling homes with her husband.
Survivors include two sons, Jerome of Oklahoma City and Bruce of Scappose, Ore.; a daughter, Loree Nelson of Silverdale; a sister, Lou Ann Sound of Scappose; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Aldora Stidham.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church on Perry Avenue. Interment
will be in Twin Valley.

Ruth Lehner
Mamie Ruth Lehner, 90, of Poulsbo died July 30, 2000, in Poulsbo.
She was born Jan. 9, 1910, in Central Cove, Idaho, to John Thomas and Nora Effie (Arnold) Hellyer. She graduated from Wilder High School in Idaho in 1926.
She married
William Blaine Lehner Sr. in May 1927. He preceded her in death in 1971.
Mrs. Lehner helped operate Lehner's Custom Slaughtering and later worked for the state of California.
She enjoyed gardening and was interested in the horticulture of African Violets.
Survivors include a son, William Blaine Jr. of Bothell; three daughters, Fran Madariaga of Jordan Valley, Ore., Leslie Lehner of Oregon House, Calif., and Barbara Hampton of Suquamish;
11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by two brothers; and a grandson.
A memorial service is planned for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Martha & Mary Health Care Center chapel in Poulsbo. Interment
be in Wilder, Idaho.

Robert Lowe
Robert DuWayne Lowe, 50, of Salt Lake City died of natural causes July 31, 2000, in Salt Lake City.
He was born Aug. 9, 1949, in Port Angeles, to Abraham Virginia (Cameron) Lowe. He graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1964.
Mr. Lowe served in the Army, worked at the Port Gamble Mill for 10 years, and most recently worked for a circus in Salt Lake City.
He was a tribal member of Jamestown Klallam.
Survivors include his mother, Virginia Thomas, and father, Abraham Lowe, both of Independence, Ore.; two sons, David Alexander and Brian Richard, both of Salt Lake City; five brothers, Philip Cameron of Aberdeen, Thomas of Port Angeles, Michael of Eugene, Ore., Les Lawrence of Suquamish, and John Lawrence of Indianola; two sisters, Sandra Mabe and Denise Williams, both of Kingston. He was preceded in death by a brother, Boonie Cameron.
A memorial service is planned for 5 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Suquamish Slab waterfront. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the tribal center in Suquamish.
