Michael Pruitt
Michael Austin Pruitt, 49, of Belfair died Sept. 25, 1998, in Bremerton.
He was born Sept. 19, 1998, in Bremerton to Frederick and Leita (Vanborg) Pruitt. He was raised in Belfair, graduating from North Mason High School in 1968. He received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Washington State University in 1974.
On July 19, 1969, in a Chinese restaurant in Belfair, he married his high school sweetheart, Cheri Bishop.
Mr. Pruitt was a mechanical engineer at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 28 years.
He was a past Master of the Mason's Hood Canal Lodge No. 288 in Belfair, past Associate Guardian and member of honor of the Job's Daughters Bethel No. 43 in Belfair, recipient of the Job's Daughters Evergreen Award, and member of the Belfair chapter Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mathew and Ryan of Belfair; a daughter, Kim Hodkinson of Snohomish; two brothers, James of Chehalis and Steve of Belfair; a sister, Sandi Miller of Belfair; and one grandchild, Bradley Hodkinson of Snohomish. His mother preceded him in death on Sept. 7.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 29 in the Chapel at Lewis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Belfair Community Baptist Church, 23300 NE Highway 3, with committal service following at Twin Firs cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Job's Daughters Hearing Impaired Kids Endowment Fund, c/o Mrs. Nancy Walters, 609 E. Alder, Walla Walla, WA 99362.

Dorothy Ashley
Dorothy Ashley, 98, of Bremerton died Sept. 27, 1998, at Forest Ridge Convalescent Center.
She was born July 11, 1900, in Sugar Pine, Calif., to Nellie (Converse) and Charles Barrick. She was raised in California.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ashley, in 1995.
Arrangements are under the direction of Miller Woodlawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park.

Jennie Sutherland
Former Belfair resident Jennie Bacile Sutherland, 91, died at a convalescent care center in Santa Maria, Calif., on Sept. 20, 1998, of natural causes.
She was born May 8, 1907, in Fresno, Calif. She was a lifelong homemaker.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Arthur B. Sutherland of Santa Maria, Calif.; two daughters, Sally Perkins of Glendale, Calif., and Joan Atwater of Santa Maria, Calif.; a brother, Nick Bacile of Sun City, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Lady Family Mortuary in Arroyo Grande, Calif. Cremation was requested with inurnment in the Arroyo Grande cemetery following the memorial service.
Arrangements are under the direction of Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society at 220 South Palisade Drive #103, Santa Maria, CA 93454.

Wallace Music
Wallace Henry Music, 89, of Bremerton died Sept. 20, 1998, at Oyster Bay Convalescent Center.
He was born Jan. 13, 1909, in Morton to Archabold and Annie (Vaughn) Music. He was raised and educated in Morton.
On April 23, 1949, he married Eleanor Hansen in Olympia.
Mr. Music served in the Army during World War II, training dogs at Fort Warden. He later retired after many years as a painter at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
He was a life member of the Rock Hound Club and the Gem Club, and he was an active member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sept. 25 at Oyster Bay Convalescent Center, 3517 11th St., Bremerton.
Interment will be at Fern Hill cemetery in Aberdeen.
Local arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

Joseph Leavell
Joseph F. Leavell, 54, of Bremerton died Sept. 23, 1998, while vacationing in Arkansas.
He was born June 28, 1944, in Gooding, Idaho, to Mildred and Vince Leavell. He was raised and educated in Bremerton, and lived most of his life there.
Mr. Leavell went to work for the city of Bremerton and retired after 27 years of service. He served many years at the Senior Citizen Center on Nipsic Avenue.
Survivors include his sister, Judy Baxter; and his brother, Richard Leavell.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 26 at Crossroads Neighborhood Church at the intersection of Central Valley and Fairgrounds roads.
Memorials may be made to the Special Olympics of Kitsap County.

Vernon Mason
Vernon Everett Mason, 69, of Bremerton died Sept. 19, 1998, at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
He was born Nov. 27, 1928, in Sterling, Colo., to Ralph and Genevieve (Montgomery) Mason. He was raised and educated in Colorado, graduating from Sterling High School in 1947.
On July 22, 1973, he married Vivian Reeves in Sterling, Colo.
Mr. Mason entered the Army after high school. He served in Korea, and completed a tour of duty in Vietnam. He was awarded the Bronze Star. He retired as a Sergeant First Class in 1969. Most recently, he worked at Bangor for 16 years until his retirement in 1990.
He was a life member of VFW Post No. 4992.
Survivors include his wife; three stepdaughters, Shanon Benson of Seattle, Peggy Wagner of Portland, , Ore., and Nancy Brandt of Stafford, Va.; six stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
At the family's request, there will be no service. Cremation will be at Cherry Grove Memorial Park, with inurnment at Tracyton cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Memorials may be made to Silverdale Medic One (Fire District No. 1), 10955 Silverdale Way NW, Silverdale, WA 98383.

Lewis Fiester
Lewis Nelson Fiester, 80, of Silverdale died Sept. 14, 1998, at Harrison Memorial Hospital, of natural causes.
He was born April 1, 1918, in Muskegon, Mich., to Gertrude and Sidney Fiester. He graduated from Muskegon High School in 1936.
In 1941, he married Betty Jane Gudelsky in Biloxi, Miss.
After high school, Mr. Fiester completed Officer Candidate School in the Army Air Corps and joined the 8th Air Corps in England where he flew missions over Europe in 1943 to 1944 as a bombardier. He attained the rank of captain and was frequently decorated, receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal.
He was active in residential and commercial real estate in Grand Rapids, Mich., Spring Lake, Mich., and Tampa, Fla. He moved to the Seattle area in 1986.
Survivors include his wife, Betty of Silverdale; a daughter, Debbie Ayers of Port Ludlow; a son, Thomas of Boulder, Colo.; a brother, Donald of Mesa, Ariz.; a sister, Grace Neis of Muskegon, Mich.; and four grandchildren.

Margaret Hodge
Margaret G. Hodge, 72, former Bremerton resident, died Aug. 31, 1998, in Mesa, Ariz.
She was born Nov. 28, 1925, in Portal, N.D., to Annie and Victor Rahm. She moved with her family to Bremerton in 1941 and graduated from Bremerton High School in 1943.
On June 21, 1946, she married Harry Jerome Hodge at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Bremerton. He preceded her in death in 1995.
Mrs. Hodge's working career was based in accounting and she was an avid volunteer for the Hospice Program.
Survivors include a son, Ken of Issaquah; two daughters, Barbara Schultz of Poulsbo and Marilyn Higgins of Billings, Mont.; three brothers, Nolan Rahm of Seattle, and Robert and David Rahm, both of Bremerton; a sister, Edith Reite of Bremerton; and four grandchildren, Ken Chick of Kent, Kevin Chick of Missoula, Mont., and Christy and Kelly Higgins, both of Billings, Mont.
A joint memorial service for Harry and Margaret Hodge will be at 2 p.m. Sept. 27 at Green's Bellevue Funeral Home, 1215 145th Pl. SE, Bellevue, WA 98007.

Sarah Nordnes
Sarah "Betty" Elizabeth Nordnes, 73, of Bremerton died Sept. 20, 1998, at her home.
She was born April 1, 1925, in Bremerton to George and Gertrude (Moore) Sumner. She was raised in Bremerton, attending Central Kitsap High School in Silverdale.
On Feb. 25, 1967, she married Birger Nordnes in Bremerton. He preceded her in death in 1982.
Mrs. Nordnes was a member of the Sons of Norway.
Survivors include a son, Roger Klark of Seattle; a daughter, Carol Dahl of Bremerton; and two grandchildren, Tawnya and Crystal Howard, both of Bremerton.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 25, with services immediately following at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A reception will be at Canterbury Manor in Bremerton.
Memorials may be made to the Sons of Norway Language Funds.

Guinn Johnson
Guinn Reese Johnson, 76, of Poulsbo died Sept. 21, 1998, at his home, after a long battle with cancer.
He was born June 10, 1922, in Century, W.Va., to John and Ethel (Campbell) Johnson. He was raised in Century, W. Va., and Warren, Ohio, graduating from Warren G. Harding High School.
On Oct. 2, 1945, he married Ruby May Johnson in Warren, Ohio. She preceded him in death in 1995.
Mr. Johnson served in the Army Air Corps in the European Theatre, receiving, among many decorations, the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He worked 25 years as a technical illustrator for the Military Vehicle Division of the Food and Machinery Corp. until his retirement in 1984.
He was a member of the Sons of Norway and of the Poulsbo Eagles Aerie No. 3586.
Survivors include two sons, Terrance of Auburn and Timothy of Corralitos, Calif.; six grandchildren, Shannon of Santa Cruz, Calif., Rachel of Watsonville, Calif., Erik of Bellingham, Nicholas of Santa Cruz, Calif., Rhian and Andrea, both of Auburn; and two great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, John Starkey, and Porter and Allen Johnson; and a sister, Agnes Johnson.
At Mr. Johnson's request, there will be no services.
Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, "The Stone Chapel."
