Evelyn Boon
Former Bremerton resident Evelyn Meinecke Boon, 88, of Hemet, Calif., died July 18, 2000, at Aspen Cottages of complications from Alzheimer's Disease.
She was born March 30, 1912, in Forest City, Iowa. She graduated from high school in Forest City and attended a nursing school.
She married
Newell Boon in March 1987 in Bremerton.
Mrs. Boon worked as a real estate agent in Bremerton for 25 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bremerton.
She is survived by a son, Dale Meinecke of Allyn; one grandson, Glenn; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Glenn Meinecke in 1978.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. today at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Lois Melz
Lois M. Melz, 84, of Bremerton died July 23, 2000, at Forest Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Nov. 29, 1915, in Orting to Calvin and Mabel (Erickson) Hill. She graduated from high school in Orting in 1941.
She married
Robert L. Melz on Aug. 29, 1949.
Mrs. Melz worked as a supply clerk at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 34 years, retiring in 1976.
She was a member of the Kitsap Golf and Country Club.
Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow.
Nanay Papa
Candida L. "Nanay" Papa, 86, of Port Orchard died July 21, 2000, at her home.
She was born Jan. 19, 1914, in Calamba, Laguna, Philippines, to Feliciano and Flora (Herrero) Lavadia.
She married
Damaso F. Papa on May 28, 1933, in the Philippines.
Mrs. Papa was a homemaker and mother. She was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard.
She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Zenaida Delarosa of Port Orchard; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Luzviminda Andres.
Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. Immediately following, a Rosary will then be said. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Gabriel Catholic Church. Interment
will take place at Sunset Lane cemetery.
William Kelly
William H. Kelly, 93, of Hansville died July 25, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born March 25, 1907, in Spokane, to Frank and Della (Bacon) Kelly. He was educated in Bremerton.
He married
Joyce Hamilton on Sept. 11, 1942, in Bremerton. She preceded him in death in 1996.
Mr. Kelly worked as a leading man and packer at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 33 years, retiring in 1960.
He enjoyed golfing.
He is survived by one son, Michael of Bremerton; three daughters, Frances Witt of Port Orchard, Patricia Guthrey of Port Hadlock and Dale Kelly of Hansville; a brother, Babe of Seattle; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
At his request, no service will be held. Inurnment will take place at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Jesse Foster
Jesse C. Foster, 75, of Belfair died July 25, 2000, at his home of congestive heart failure.
He was born July 28, 1924, in Belfair, to Oskar Olafsson and Lucy (McKinney) Foster. He attended South Kitsap High School.
He married
Estelle M. Bulduc on Aug. 28, 1945, in Montesano.
Mr. Foster served in the Coast Guard from 1942 to 1945, achieving the rank of quartermaster first class. He received commendation for participating in the rescue of Russian sailors in the Aleutian Islands.
He worked as a heavy equipment mechanic at the Washington State Department of Transportation for 32 years, retiring in 1973.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Port Orchard.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Joseph of Eliot, Maine; two daughters, Laura Boad of Belfair and Susan Allen of Tahuya; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Larry, in 1973.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Friday at Belfair Community Baptist Church. Inurnment will take place at Twin Firs cemetery in Belfair. Arrangements are under the direction of McComb Funeral Home in Shelton.

Wes Ellenwood
Wes Ellenwood Jr., 62, of Seabeck died July 23, 2000, at Seattle Veterans' Hospital.
He was born June 18, 1938, in Lyons, Ga., to Albert Wesley and Flossie (Brown) Ellenwood.
He served in the Air Force from 1957 to 1977, achieving the rank of technical sergeant.
Mr. Ellenwood owned and operated Ray's Saw and Mower Shop in Crosby.
He married
Donna Houde on May 20, 1995, in Crosby.
He enjoyed gardening and restoring old logging equipment.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Janet Ellenwood of Pavillon, Neb., Patricia Grubbe of Alabama, and Deboraha Korth of Nebraska; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Monday at Lewis Funeral Chapel, with military honors following. Cremation will take place at Cherry Grove Memorial Park with inurnment at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Arthur Geuss
Arthur P. Geuss, 90, of Poulsbo died July 22, 2000, in Poulsbo of congestive heart failure.
He was born April 15, 1910, in Carmi, Ill., to Paul Leo and Elizabeth (Friedmann) Geuss. He graduated from Carmi High School in 1927, the University of Illinois in 1934, and the University of Chicago in 1958.
He married
Esther Hild on Sept. 22, 1934, in York, Pa. She preceded him in death in 1988.
Mr. Geuss served in the Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1945, achieving the rank of lieutenant colonel.
He worked as a civil engineer with Harza Engineering of Chicago for 30 years, retiring in 1970.
He was a member of the Lutheran church and the Bainbridge Island Visually Impaired Persons Support Group.
Survivors include two sons, Arthur Jr. of Anchorage, Alaska, and William of Nyon, Switzerland; a brother, James of Lombard, Ill.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his sister, Frances; and two brothers, Joseph and Robert.
A memorial service is planned for 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Liberty Shores Retirement Center, 19360 Viking Ave. NW in Poulsbo.

Thelma Olsen
Marie "Thelma" Olsen, 86, of Poulsbo died July 21, 2000, at Liberty Shores at Poulsbo.
She was born Jan. 11, 1914, in West Point, Neb., to William and Emma (Bowers) Brumm. She graduated from Union High School in 1932 and attended Olympic College.
She worked as a licensed practical nurse at Harrison Hospital. She was a member of the Kitsap Historical Society and the Nurses Society.
Survivors include three sons, Larry of Port Orchard, Stanford of Bainbridge Island and David of Port Townsend; a daughter, Mary Pickens of Suquamish; two sisters, Bertha Sibon of Bremerton and Clara Perry of Salem, Ore.; seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl Olsen, in 1975.
At her request, no service will be held. Inurnment will take place at First Lutheran Church cemetery in Poulsbo. Arrangements are under the direction of Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove Memorial Park.

Edna Taylor
Edna R. Taylor, 74, of Bremerton died July 23, 2000, at Bremerton Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born July 28, 1925, in Punta Gorda, Fla., to Roy and Irma Elise (Rhode) Buckelew. She graduated from Sulligent High School in Sulligent, Ala., in 1944, and from Jefferson-Hillman Hospital School of Nursing in Birmingham, Ala., in 1947.
She married
Thomas W. Taylor on May 30, 1949, in Sarasota, Fla. He preceded her in death in 1962.
Mrs. Taylor worked as a registered nurse for 40 years, retiring in 1987.
She enjoyed the outdoors and was a member of the Southern Baptist church.
She is survived by a son, Thomas Jr. of Milford, Ohio; two daughters, Margaret Taylor McHenry of Bremerton and Betty Taylor Stahl of Guntersville, Ala.; a brother, Roy Buckelew of Venice, Fla.; a sister, June Buckelew Wildes of Pensacola, Fla.; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Interment will take place at Jesse Knight Memorial cemetery in Nokomis, Fla. Local arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Victor Deaky
Victor G. Deaky, 73, of Poulsbo died July 20, 2000, at his home of pulmonary fibrosis.
He was born May 24, 1927, in Hungary to Lajos and Helen Deaky. He graduated from high school in Budapest, Hungary, in 1945, and from California State University. He married
Ildiko Biro on Sept. 8, 1984, in Santa Monica, Calif.
Mr. Deaky served in the Hungarian army. He worked as an electro-mechanical senior engineer at Hughes Aircraft in El Segundo, Calif., for 21 years, retiring in 1989.
He enjoyed jewelry design and was a member of the bowling league.
Survivors include his wife; a stepmother, Irma Daradics of Budapest; a daughter, Cecilia Deaky of Los Angeles; a brother, Andras Deaky of Budapest; and two stepgrandchildren.
A memorial Mass was celebrated Wednesday at St. Olaf's Catholic Church in Poulsbo. Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.

Annie Cronin
Annie Bertina Cronin, 95, of Keyport died July 20, 2000, at Saint Clair Hospital in Lakewood.
She was born Jan. 1, 1905, in Seattle, to Odin and Anna (Holmberg) Olson. She was educated in Seattle and East Stanwood.
She married
Edward F. Cronin on July 18, 1947, in Poulsbo. He preceded her in death in 1965.
Mrs. Cronin worked at Keyport Torpedo Station during World War II and then owned and managed rental properties in Keyport.
She enjoyed gardening and ceramics.
Survivors include two daughters, Berniece Redding of Tacoma and Violet Simkins of St. George, Utah; 13 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Wednesday at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
