Jyllyan Cohen
Jyllyan Indica-Keru Cohen, nearly two months old, of Bremerton died July 13, 2000, at Tacoma General Hospital.
She was born May 18, 2000, in Bremerton, to Jake and Kerry (Tjaden) Cohen.
She is survived by her parents; grandparents, Bruce and Linda Tjaden of Bremerton, and Tom Anderson and M. Teddy Cohen of Agoura, Calif.; and a great-grandfather, W.T. Johnson of Arizona.
A memorial service is planned for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Cremation will take place at Cherry Grove Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

John Martin
John W. Martin, 76, of Poulsbo died July 13, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Jan. 30, 1924, in Hurtsboro, Ala., to John and Ruth (Downey) Martin. He graduated from high school in Hurtsboro and from Stevens Technical Institute in New Jersey.
Mr. Martin served in the Marine Corps during World War II.
He married Grace Curran on Dec. 19, 1955, in Port Alberni, Canada. She preceded him in death in 1983.
He was a programmer and analyst at Safeco Insurance for 30 years, retiring in 1986.
Survivors include a daughter, Erin Kelleigh of Kingston; a sister, Ruth Gammon of Hurtsboro, Ala.; and two grandchildren.
At his request no services will be held. Cremation will be at Cherry Grove Crematory in Poulsbo. Arrangements are by Poulsbo Mortuary, "The Stone Chapel."
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 2383, Bremerton, WA 98310.

Gertrude Gately Cushman
Gertrude Gately Cushman, 88, of Poulsbo died July 13, 2000, at Harbor House at Liberty Shores in Poulsbo.
She was born July 24, 1911, in Lowell, Mass., to George and Annie (Paulson) Gately. She graduated from high school in Lowell and from Lowell State Teacher's College and attended Juilliard in New York City.
She married Elmer Cushman on Oct. 18, 1941, in Lowell. He preceded her in death in 1965.
Mrs. Cushman was a music teacher for several years in rural New England.
She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella in Stonington, Conn., and the Song Birds of Westerly, R.I. She enjoyed reading and traveling.
Survivors include a son, Edward of Columbia, Md.; three stepsons, Leonard of Hudson, Mass., Richard of Natick, Mass., and Stephen of Niantic, Conn.; a daughter, Rossalie Ripley of Anchorage, Alaska; 10 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
A funeral liturgy will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Stonington today. Interment icon will take place at Williams cemetery in Bradford, Maine, on Wednesday. Local arrangements are by Poulsbo Mortuary, "The Stone Chapel."

Mildred Brame
Mildred Elizabeth Brame, 72, of Sequim died June 10, 2000, in Port Angeles.
She was born Sept. 29, 1927, in Canton, Ohio, to Raymond C. and Nina Ethel (Daughtery) Linard.
She married Jaye D. Brame on Feb. 14, 1969, in Everett.
Mrs. Brame enjoyed traveling and gardening. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Sequim.
She is survived by her spouse; five sons, Guy M. Scott of Graham, Robert K. Scott, William Scott and John S. Scott, all of Port Orchard, and Gary D. Scott of Tahuya; three daughters, Patti E. Brandt and Sue R. Armistead, both of Sequim, and Peggy A. Dewar; a stepdaughter, Penney Cook of Caldwell, Idaho; three sisters, Mid, Nina Mae and Ruth, all of Pennsylvania; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Paul and Raymond.
A funeral service was held June 15 at Sequim Valley Chapel. Interment icon took place at Sequim View cemetery.

Katherine Wilson
Katherine E. Wilson, 77, of Port Orchard died July 14, 2000, at Forest Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center of natural causes.
She was born Sept. 12, 1922, in New York City to Daniel and Katie (Reusch) Donnelly. She graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1938.
She married George E. Wilson on Dec. 7, 1940, in Tacoma.
Mrs. Wilson was a bookkeeper for insurance companies and the family fuel business.
She was a member of the American Legion Post 30 Ladies Auxiliary and the First Christian Church in Port Orchard. She enjoyed traveling with her husband.
She is survived by her husband; five daughters, Midge Robins of Bremerton, Jeanne Arvidson of Seattle, Judi Myers of Port Orchard, Sheila Scatena of Bremerton and Patty Simpson of North Bend; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Jeanne Donnelly Thompson, in 1999.
A memorial service is planned from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 12 at the American Legion Post 30 in Port Orchard. Arrangements are by Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to American Legion Auxiliary 30, Girls State Fund, 615 Kendall St., Port Orchard, WA 98366.

Loyd Witte
Loyd James Witte, 65, of Bremerton died July 16, 2000, at home of cancer.
He was born Jan. 30, 1935, in Dimmit, Texas, to Henry and Katie (Tierce) Witte. He graduated from high school in Plainview, Texas, in 1956.
Mr. Witte married Barbara Sue Murphy on May 25, 1956, in Plainview.
Mr. Witte was a noncommissioned officer in the Navy, serving from 1954 until retiring in 1981.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Cynthia Pavlicek and Connie Lou Wellner, both of Bremerton; a brother, Delbert of Seattle; two sisters, Delma Todd of Kansas City, Mo., and Elna Witte of Waco, Texas; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday at Crossroads Neighborhood Church. Arrangements are by Tuell-McKee Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Kitsap County P.O. Box 3416, Silverdale, WA 98383-3416.

Doris Benjamin
Former Bremerton resident Doris Joann Benjamin, 62, of Honolulu died July 11, 2000, in her home of natural causes.
She was born May 17, 1938, in Yuma, Ariz., to Joseph and Opal (White) Saksa. She graduated from Federal Way High School.
She volunteered for Fur, Fins and Feather Animal Shelter and was a member of Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
Survivors include her mother, Opal Sabol, of Puyallup; four sons, Jeff Benjamin of Seattle, Mike Williams of Silverdale, Mark Williams of Belfair and Mar Williams of Everett; three daughters, Jennifer Cutler of Bremerton, Jaci Williams of Port Orchard, and Joni McCarty of Graham; a sister, Tina Hartman of Tacoma; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her brother, Gary Saksa.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. July 28 at Star of the Sea Catholic Church. A reception will follow at her daughter's home in Bremerton.

Carlton Smith
H. Carlton Smith, Ph.D., 73, of South Colby died July 9, 2000, in his home.
He was born Aug. 29, 1927, in Newton, Mass. He graduated from Cambridge Academy in Boston, from the University of Washington in 1952, and received his Ph.D. there in the 1970s.
Mr. Smith served in the Navy during World War II, achieving the rank of pharmacist's mate, third class.
He married W. Dianne Graham in Seattle in 1949.
He was an associate dean at Seattle Community College and was the band director at Garfield and Rainier Beach High schools. He enjoyed boating and music.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Scott Graham Smith of Poulsbo; three daughters, Vicki Lee Smith-Jones of Seattle, Pamela Louise Smith-Graham of Lake Forest Park and Rachel Ann Smith of Edmonds; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A private graveside service was held July 10 at Mountain View cemetery in Tacoma.

Dorothy Bohn
Dorothy R. Bohn, 82, of Port Orchard died July 15, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Sept. 1, 1917, in Columbus, Ohio.
She married Raymond J. Bohn on Aug. 22, 1935, in Columbus. He preceded her in death in 1986.
Mrs. Bohn was a homemaker.
She is survived by two sons, Jerry of Columbus and Thomas of Port Orchard; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Judith Ann Bohn.
Interment will take place at Holy Rosary cemetery in Columbus. Local arrangements are by Pendleton-Gilchrist at Rill Chapel.

Manfred Spence
Manfred George Spence, 41, of Port Orchard died July 15, 2000, at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle.
He was born April 10, 1959, in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, to Manfred and Elaine (Spence) Laumen.
He married Cathy Heath on June 10, 1983, in Seattle.
Mr. Spence served in the Navy and was the owner and operator of Manfred's Landscaping.
He enjoyed rebuilding antique cars and singing karaoke.
He is survived by his wife; his mother and stepfather, Dwight and Elaine Laney of Mississippi; a son, Donnie of Port Orchard; a daughter, Kandace of Bremerton; a sister, Heidi Holley; four brothers, William, Robert, Christopher and Michael; and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by his father.
At his request, there will be no services. A potluck gathering for family and friends will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the family home, 1008 Peru Ave. E., Port Orchard. Cremation will take place in Kent. Arrangements are by Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Christine Moe
Christine J. Moe, 36, of Bremerton died July 13, 2000, at her parent's home of an extended illness.
She was born Oct. 23, 1963, in Ellensburg to Harlan Dean and Barbara (Windle) Moe. She graduated from Ellensburg High School in 1982 and attended Central Washington University for two years.
She married Frank Freeman in July 1997 in Reno, Nev.
She enjoyed camping and boating and was a member of First Baptist Church in Ellensburg.
Survivors include her parents of Bremerton; and two sisters, Nikol Noel of Bremerton and Michaele Ferrell of Goldendale, Wash.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Friday at Manette Community Church, 1137 Hayward Ave., Bremerton. Arrangements are by Kitsap Cremation and Burial Society.

Dorothy Wilkerson
Dorothy Johanna Wilkerson, 81, of Port Orchard died July 16, 2000, at Crista Shores in Silverdale.
She was born April 21, 1919, in Bremerton to Oliver and Laurie (Newcum) Olsen. She graduated from South Kitsap High School in Port Orchard in 1938.
She married James L. Wilkerson on Sept. 6, 1941, in Port Orchard. He preceded her in death in 1995.
Mrs. Wilkerson was a homemaker and a pianist. She was a member of Waterman Circle and Elim Lutheran Church in Port Orchard.
She is survived by a son, John of Plano, Texas; three daughters, Laura Schuck of Port Orchard, Diana Leach of Tacoma and Janice Goldman of Vancouver; two sisters, Arline McTurnal of Harstine Island and Alma Olsen of Bremerton; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Gregory; and a brother, Oliver "Bud" Olsen.
Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A funeral service is planned for 10 a.m. Friday, also at Rill Chapel. Interment icon will take place at Sunset Lane cemetery.
