Doris St. John
Doris L. St. John, 70, of Belfair, died July 1, 2000, at her home of lung cancer.
She was born Aug. 20, 1929, in Minneapolis to Rudolph and Alice (Benson) Olson. She graduated from South High School in Minneapolis.
She married
John St. John on Apr. 6, 1946.
Mrs. St. John was a housewife who loved her animals and designing and making wedding cakes and dresses.
Survivors include her husband; a son, John St. John of Pleasant Hill, Calif.; three daughters, Jacquelyn Iler of Bay Point Calif., Sheryl St. John of Belfair, and Laura Taylor of Mukilteo; a brother, Robert Olson of Russell, Minn.;
13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
At her request there will be no services.

Allen Stueber
Allen L. Stueber, 85, of Bremerton, died July 1, 2000, at Harrison Hospital of a massive stroke.
He was born Aug. 15, 1914, in Juneau, Wis., to Percy H. and Alma Emilie (Kent) Stueber. He graduated from Meyville High School in Meyville, Wis.
He married
Eileen Helen Kahlhamer on June 2, 1939, in Dubuque, Iowa.
Mr. Stueber worked as a machinist at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 28 years. He retired in 1970.
He enjoyed fishing and was a member of the Eagles F.O.E.
He is survived by his wife; two brothers, Ralph of Hawaii and Jerome of Wisconsin; and three sisters, Joyce of California, and Ethel and Helen, both of Wisconsin.
Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Lee Parker
Asbery M. "Lee" Parker, 83, of Port Orchard, died July 4, 2000, in Bremerton of natural causes.
He was born Sept. 6, 1916, in Opp, Ala., to Joseph and Anna (Curby) Parker.
He married
Evelyn J. Sheets on June 15, 1940, in Tillamook, Ore.
Mr. Parker worked as a welder for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 25 years, retiring in 1971.
He enjoyed dancing and playing horseshoes.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Allyn Lee Parker of Vancouver, Wash.; two daughters, Lynda Brooks of Gig Harbor and Holly Anderson of Port Orchard; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Rill Chapel. A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday, also at Rill Chapel. Inurnment will take place at Sunset Lane cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard.
Nina Lang
Nina G. Lang, 82, of Port Orchard, died July 5, 2000, at Northwoods Lodge in Silverdale.
She was born Oct. 1, 1917, in Idaho, to Vern and Nina (Young) Johnson.
She married
Charles Lang on June 19, 1936. He preceded her in death in 1991.
Survivors include a son, Rex of Hot Springs, Mont.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Ron.
A graveside service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Mountain View cemetery in Auburn. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Shirley Christiansen
Shirley Mary Christiansen, 84, of Poulsbo, died July 5, 2000, at Martha and Mary Health Care Center.
She was born Feb. 26, 1916, in Chicago to Whitefield and Gertrude (Bleines) Ford. She graduated from Oak Park High School in Oak Park, Ill., in 1934.
Mrs. Christiansen served in the Army from 1942 to 1946, achieving the rank of sergeant. She received the WWII victory medal and an Army service medal.
She married
Carl Christiansen in June 1949 in Seattle. He preceded her in death in 1999.
Mrs. Christiansen worked as a dental hygienist at the Veterans Hospital in Seattle for 25 years, retiring in 1972.
She was a member of the WWII Womens War Memorial Association and the Women in Military Service Organization.
Survivors include two nephews, Gregg Stieber and John Stieber, both of Redmond; and two nieces, Carol Borda of Mercer Island and Sandy Short of Chimicum.
Arrangements are under the direction of Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo.
Carrie Browning
Carrie Mae Browning, 89, of Bremerton died of natural causes June 28, 2000, at her home.
She was born May 15, 1911, in Broken Bow, Okla., to Joe and Eliza (Adams) Harris.
She married
Chester "Brownie" Browning on April 9, 1927, in Queen City, Texas. He preceded her in death in 1974.
Mr. and Mrs. Browning were former owners of Bremerton Electric. They retired in 1972.
She was a member of Manette Community Church.
She is survived by three sons, Robert and Joe, both of Bremerton, and Max of Hondo, Texas; two daughters, Shelba Morgan of Winchester, Calif., and Shirley Martinez of Port Orchard; two sisters, Leona Hudson and Rosie Ross, both of Gladewater, Texas; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her brother, Floyd Harris.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service. A celebration of her life will follow the services at the home of Richard and Shirley Martinez, 2006 SE Juniper Court in Port Orchard. Interment
will take place at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Paul Carlson
Paul A. Carlson, 79, of Port Orchard died July 1, 2000, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center in Bremerton.
He was born Dec. 30, 1920, in Nome, N.D., to Henry and Annie (Strand) Carlson.
He married
Eleanor Jacobson on May 7, 1949, in St. Paul, Minn. She preceded him in death in 1994.
Mr. Carlson worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 30 years as an electro-plater, retiring in 1982. He was a senior advisor in Olympia for the Area Agency on Aging.
He enjoyed golfing. He was a member of Sons of Norway and Sylvan Way Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Frank of Port Orchard and David of Madison, Wis.; a daughter, Helen of Palm Desert, Calif.; a brother, Levi of Nome, N.D.; a sister, Cora Romaine of Mesa, Ariz.; and three grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Seth, in 1993.
Visitation took place Monday. A funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. Interment
will be at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.

Zelma Hylen
Zelma Iris Hylen, 91, of Bainbridge Island died July 3, 2000, at Messenger House Care Center.
She was born Nov. 24, 1908, in Walla Walla to John and May Belle (Mayo) Arnett. She graduated from high school in Portland, Ore., in 1926.
She married
Walter Hylen on Jan. 24, 1943, in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Mrs. Hylen was a secretary for 30 years. She enjoyed weaving and amateur clowning. She was a member of the Lutheran church.
She is survived by a son, Stephen of Bainbridge Island; a daughter, Jenny Heikkala of Milton; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 4 p.m. Sunday at Bethany Lutheran Church. Arrangements are by Kass Funeral Home.

Helmut Chole
Helmut August Richard Chole, 101, of Puyallup died of natural causes June 1, 2000, in Tacoma.
He was born May 18, 1899, in Germany to August and Wilhelmina (Drager) Chole.
He worked for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Evergreen Upholstery.
Mr. Chole was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Puyallup Third Ward.
Survivors include a son, Hilbert of Texas; two daughters, Miriam Ames of Puyallup and Lillian Sedlor of Texas; 19 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida, and a son, Raymond.
Visitation was Monday at Powers Funeral Home in Puyallup. A funeral service is planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the LDS Puyallup South Stake Center. Interment
will be at Miller-Woodlawn cemetery in Bremerton.
Daisy Kitts
Daisy Dorothy Kitts, 88, of Silverdale died June 12, 2000, at Northwoods Lodge in Silverdale.
She was born July 3, 1911, in Shageluk, Alaska, to George and Dorothy (Ptaragin) Turner. She graduated from Central Kitsap High School in 1919. She also attended business college in Seattle.
She married
William Kitts in 1939 in Seattle. He preceded her in death in 1980.
Mr. and Mrs. Kitts owned and operated the Poulsbo Seattle Auto Freight Co. for 40 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra McLaren of Bellevue; two sisters; six brothers; and one grandson.
At her request there will be no services. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Josephine Rousse
Former Bremerton resident Josephine B. Rousse, 75, of Katy, Texas, died of a heart attack June 27, 2000, in Houston.
She was born July 16, 1924, in Two Rivers, Wis., to William and Emily Mitchell. She graduated from Washington High School in Two Rivers in 1941.
She married
Arnold W. Rousse on June 9, 1945. He preceded her in death in 1982.
Mrs. Rousse enjoyed crocheting for her family and caring for plants.
She is survived by three sons, Arnold Jr. of Tigard, Ore., and Joseph and David, both of Bremerton; three daughters, Shirley Bradley of Bremerton, Josephine "Jody" Rousse and Katherine Pederson, both of Katy; a twin brother, Joseph Mitchell of Manitowoc, Wis., and a second brother, Victor of Chicago; three sisters, Emily Matheny of Austin, Tex., Helen Goetz of Omaha, Neb., and Stella White of Florida; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Hattie Stanislawski of Wisconsin.
Visitation is scheduled for 1 to 2:30 p.m. today at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 2:30 p.m.
