Ethel Hitchcock
Former Bremerton resident Ethel E. Hitchcock, 97, of Burlington, Vt., died June 9, 2000, in Burlington of respiratory failure.
She was born March 4, 1903, in Bolton, Vt., to Joseph and Lisa (Dague) Tatro.
She was a member of White Shrine of Jerusalem 14 and Eastern Star 216, both in Bremerton.
She is survived by a daughter, Pamela Miller-Tatro of Vancouver, Wash.; and three grandchildren. Her husband, Glenn Hitchcock, preceded her in death in 1990. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Sadie White and Villa Palm.
Services and interment will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of Boucher and Pritchard Funeral Directors of Burlington, Vt.

Makayla Brown
Makayla M. Brown, 28 days old, of Gig Harbor died June 11, 2000, in Gig Harbor.
She was born May 12, 2000, in Tacoma, to Charles David and Carolynn F. Brown.
She is survived by her parents; grandparents, Gary and Cathy Wolfe of Olalla, Lloyd Brown and Nancy Wallace; and great-grandparents, Bob and Arlene Myers and Dorothy Wolfe.

M. Marjorie Nelson
M. Marjorie Nelson, 78, of Bremerton died June 10, 2000, in Silverdale from complications of a stroke.
She was born to Lonzo and Georgia (Watson) Tackett on April 28, 1922, in Ferndale. She graduated from Tahoma Union High School in Maple Valley in 1939.
She married
Donald P. Nelson on July 19, 1941, in Kent. He preceded her in death in 1997.
She was a grocery checker at several stores in Bremerton for 20 years, retiring in 1972. She enjoyed sewing and reading.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan Brashears of Bremerton and M. Jean Bumcrot of Silverdale; two sisters, Hellen Nelson of Lynnwood and Ruth Van Gundy of Anderson, Calif.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
At her request, there will be a private family service at her home. Her cremated remains will be disseminated over the Olympic Mountains. Arrangements are under direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Frances Roman
Frances M. Roman, 75, of Port Orchard died June 7, 2000, at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard.
She was born in Boston on May 2, 1925.
Mrs. Roman was a member of the Port Orchard Eagles and REAC.
She is survived by her former husband, Frederick Roman of Boston; a daughter, Christine Removitz of Boston; a sister, Mary Antiano of Boston; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Francine Flavin; and her son, Freddie Roman.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. June 29 at the Port Orchard Eagles. A reception will follow.
Stub Ryen
Francis G. "Stub" Ryen, 81, of Poulsbo died of cancer June 11, 2000, at Northwoods Lodge in Silverdale.
He was born Aug. 16, 1918, to Arthur and Marie (Thompson) Ryen in Poulsbo. He graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1938.
He and his wife, Patti, married
on March 14, 1946, in Reno, Nev. She preceded him in death in 1992.
Mr. Ryen served in the Navy for four years during World War II. He also worked at Poulsbo Lumber Company for 30 years and at North Kitsap Gravel and Asphalt Company for 10 years. He retired in 1973.
He was a member of the Warren G. Harding Lodge 260 of Free and Accepted Masons and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Ryen is survived by one son, Rocky of Bellingham; one daughter, Penni Ryen-Smith of Bremerton; a sister, Violet Thorsen of Poulsbo; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a stepson, Corky.
At his request, there will be no services. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove.

Marilyn Cope
Marilyn June Cope, 74,
of Bremerton died June 12, 2000, in Bremerton of natural causes.
She was born Sept. 14, 1925, in Everett to Elmer and Beulah Thompson. She graduated from Bremerton High School in 1943.
She married
Ivan E. Cope on Sept. 20, 1946, in Bremerton. He preceded her in death in 1998.
She was a homemaker. She had participated in Campfire Girls and enjoyed gardening. She was a member of the Presbyterian church.
Survivors include two sons, Steven of Bremerton and Curtis of Middletown, Ohio; one daughter, Vicki Price of Newport, Ore.; two sisters, Joy Schwab of Port Angeles and Beulah Koch of Everett; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie Girdler.
An open house is planned from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday at 3230 Rocky Point Road in Bremerton. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Henrietta Gustafson
Henrietta C. Gustafson, 84, of Silverdale died
June 11, 2000, in Silverdale of Parkinson's disease.
She was born Aug. 30, 1915, in Portland, Ore., to Arthur B. and Victoria L. Carlson. She graduated from Grant High School in Portland in 1938, attended Portland State University for two years, then received her seminary degree at Bethel Seminary in Minnesota. She later attended Linnfield College in Portland for two years.
She married
Clifford Gustafson on April 8, 1949, in Portland.
Mrs. Gustafson enjoyed people and travel. She was a member of North Kitsap Baptist Church in Poulsbo.
Survivors include her husband; one son, David of Bothell; one daughter, Deb of Roseville, Minn.; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Barney, Milt and James and by two sisters, Gladys and Helen.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Thursday at Edgewood Baptist Church in Edmonds. Arrangements are under the direction of Beck's Funeral Home in Edmonds.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lake Retreat Baptist Camp for a prayer chapel in Henrietta's memory.
Andrew Eldridge
Andrew C. Eldridge, 54, of Port Townsend died June 12, 2000, in Port Townsend.
He was born Sept. 9, 1945, in Port Angeles to William and Audrey Eldridge. He graduated from Quilcene High School.
Mr. Eldridge served in the Navy for four years as a Seabee. He was a police officer for 21 years.
He married
Mary Kay Shipman on Nov. 7, 1985, in Port Townsend.
Mr. Eldridge was a member of the International Police Association and the Elks.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, William Wells of Port Townsend, Robert Wells of Lexington, Ky., and Richard Wells of Spokane; two daughters, Jessica Gossette of Quilcene and Terri Eldridge of Port Hadlock; and two sisters, Willetta Smith of Poulsbo and Trixanne Eldridge of Quilcene; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Loretta, and a granddaughter, Alexandra.
Visitation is scheduled from noon to 7 p.m. today at Kosec Funeral Home in Port Townsend. A funeral service is planned for 2 p.m. Thursday at Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend.
Patricia Davis
Patricia C. Davis, 73, of Bremerton died June 13, 2000, in Bremerton.
She was born Sept. 9, 1926, in Longmont, Colo., to Gordon and Etta (Edwards) Atherton. She graduated from Longmont High School in 1944.
She married
Arthur G. Davis on July 18, 1946, in Clovis, N.M.
Mrs. Davis collected Precious Moments figurines. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Michael of Bremerton; one brother, Kenneth Atherton of Loveland, Colo.; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Margie, and by two brothers, Jack and Bob Atherton.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Inurnment will take place at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent. Arrangements are under the direction of Tuell-McKee of Bremerton.

Gloria Eakle
Gloria Y. Eakle, 68, of Belfair died June 9, 2000, in Bremerton.
She was born May 6, 1932, in Honolulu to Emil and Mildred (Reid) Gaetana. She graduated from Peninsula High School and from the University of Washington.
She married
Donald Eakle. He preceded her in death.
She was a social worker for the state of Washington in Wenatchee for 30 years.
She also was a theologian and enjoyed cooking. She was a member of St. Hugh Episcopal Church in Allyn.
She is survived by one daughter, Cathleen Perkuhn of Puyallup; and one granddaughter.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Hugh Episcopal Church. Inurnment will take place at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Vince Jones
Harold Vincent "Vince" Jones, 79, of Bremerton died of a stroke June 9, 2000, at Naval Hospital Bremerton.
He was born Sept. 17, 1920, in Hamilton, Texas, to Carmen (Manning) and Oscar Howard Jones Sr. He graduated from R.L. Pascal High School in Fort Worth in 1939.
Mr. Jones served in the Navy from 1940 to 1962, achieving the rank of chief petty officer. His military honors included the Navy Occupation Medal (Asia) and the Navy Unit Commendation Medal.
He married
Janice Haines on Sept. 11, 1960, in Enumclaw. She preceded him in death in 1997.
Mr. Jones worked at the Naval Supply Center in Bremerton for 22 years, retiring in 1982.
He was a Shriner and a member of the Fleet Reserve Association. He also was a member of Summit Avenue Presbyterian Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include three sons, Bryce of Avon, Ohio, Neal of Santiago, Chile, and Craig of Spokane; one sister, Francine Reynolds of Fort Worth; and one grandchild. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Oscar Howard Jr. and William.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Friday at Summit Avenue Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Tuell-McKee of Bremerton.
