Clara Curren
Clara Curren, 101, of Poulsbo died Sept. 16, 1998, at Martha & Mary Nursing Home.
She was born Dec. 7, 1896, to James and Ellen (Crawford) Potter in Northfield, British Columbia. She was raised in British Columbia and came to the U.S. in 1929. She lived in Tacoma for 67 years and in the Poulsbo area for the past two years.
In 1913, she married
Angus McMillian. He preceded her in death on July 14, 1941. She then married
Earl Curren in 1946, who passed away in 1966.
Mrs. Curren was a member of the Foresters, a sewing-and-garden club.
Survivors include one son, Hugh McMillian of Lake Bay; one daughter, Edna C. Oxley of Poulsbo; one sister, Nellie Robinson of Poulsbo; four grandchildren, Sharon, Cynda, Kristin, and Lance; and four great-grandchildren.
Cremation will be at Cherry Grove Memorial Park with private inurnment services at Tacoma cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove.

Don Markwick
Don Alonzo Markwick, 74, of Silverdale died Sept. 15, 1998, in Bremerton after suffering a heart attack.
He was born May 24, 1924, in Lamar, Mo., to Rose and Lonnie Markwick. He graduated from Lamar High School and the U.S. Navy Electronics School, Great Lakes, Ill.
On Aug. 7, 1948, he married
Donna C. Saelens in Milwaukee.
Mr. Markwick served in the Navy from 1943 to 1963. He worked as an electrical assembly supervisor at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Keyport for 10 years, retiring in 1973. He was a life member of VFW Post No.4992, Honorary Letterman of the Year for Central Kitsap in 1969, and was memorialized for his contributions to the Silverdale Pee Wee athletic fields.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Donald of Poulsbo, Daniel of Merryville, La., David of Silverdale, Jerry Molzahn of Port Orchard and Joseph Divine of Poulsbo; two daughters, Diane Haynes of Poulsbo and Deborah Hymas of Seabeck; one brother, James of Lamar, Mo.; 18 grandchildren, Breena, Amber and Kile Markwick, Jesse Coleman, Ace Haynes, Lyndsay Noble, Megan Markwick, Trisha, Daniel and Joeseph Luttrell, Leigh and Russanne Hymas, Josie, Don A. and Ashlee Markwick, Kayla and Scott Molzahn and Jose ph Divine Jr.; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Higby and Cleo Heatwole and his brother, Gail S. Markwick.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sept. 17 at Poulsbo Mortuary, "The Stone Chapel, " 22272 Foss Road NE, Poulsbo.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Sept. 18, at Poulsbo Mortuary. Committal following the service at Cherry Grove Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to any Pee Wee organization for underprivileged scholarships.
Clarence Hyde
Clarence "Clary" F. Hyde, 80, of Bremerton died Sept. 16, 1998, in Bremerton in his sleep.
He was born March 17, 1918, in Bremerton to Samuel and Mary (Gehrman) Hyde. He was raised and educated in Bremerton, graduating from Bremerton High School in 1938.
On Dec. 21, 1956, he married
Gwen in Shelton.
Mr. Hyde served in the Army Air Corp. from 1941 to 1945. He worked as an electronic technician for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard Combat System Offices for 30 years until retiring in 1977.
He was a member of the Kitsap Bow Hunters.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Fred and Sam, both of Bremerton; three daughters, Linda Jensen, Stacie and Lisa Satterfield, all of Bremerton; one sister, Dorothy Fowler of Port Orchard; nine grandchildren, Janica Sanderson, Jim and September Hyde, Ryan, Amy, and Chad Jensen, Jamie and Shanna Satterfield and Ian Bear, all of Bremerton; and three great-grandchildren.
Private inurnment will be at 12 p.m. Sept. 27, at the Westgate Fire Hall on Rocky Point Road. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller Woodlawn Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Dorothy Pagone
Dorothy Pagone, 86, of Bremerton died Sept. 13, 1998, in Bremerton.
She was born Nov. 14, 1911, to John and Aya (Ismay) Kilpatrick in Cortez, Colo. She was raised in Cortez and attended nursing school in Pueblo, Colo.
On Nov. 23, 1972, she married
Emanuel Pagone in Englewood, Colo. He preceded her in death in 1990.
Mrs. Pagone worked as a nurse at Harrison Memorial Hospital for four years.
She is survived by one daughter, Nancy Hawrylciw of Bremerton; one sister, Betty Neal of Cortez, Colo.; four grandchildren, Summer Hawrylciw, Tracy Lake, and Tim Sheldon, all of Bremerton and Kevin D. Sheldon of Stockton, Calif.; and two great-grandchildren.
Private inurnment will be at Miller Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Miles Gross
Miles Allen Gross, 54, died Sept. 11, 1998, at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
He was born Aug. 1, 1944, in Bremerton to Allen M. and Celia (Beigh) Gross.
He was raised and educated in Bremerton. He attended Olympic College and Linfield College in Oregon, graduating with a bachelor of science degree in 1967.
He was an underwater acoustic engineer at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
Before Mr. Gross' illness, he was active in Boy Scouts.
Survivors include a son, Corbin of Renton; a daughter, Alissa Ulrich of Bremerton; and a sister, Marsha Androsko of Puyallup.
Visitation was from 1 to 6 p.m. Sept 14 and continues from 9 to 11 a.m. Sept. 15 at Lewis Funeral Chapel.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Sept. 15 at Lewis Chapel.
Interment will be at Forest Lawn cemetery in Bremerton.

Bert Watland
Bert Leroy Watland, 86, longtime resident of Port Townsend and Sequim, died Sept. 4, 1998.
He was born Jan. 13, 1912, in Poulsbo to Martin and Bertha (Lund) Watland. He was raised in Poulsbo.
He married
Maxine Such of Quilcene, who preceded him in death in 1981.
He was a truck driver most of his life, owning and operating Watland Trucking Co. in Jefferson and Clallam counties. Many years ago, he owned San Juan Grocery in Port Townsend and Evergreen Motel in Port Angeles.
He was a longtime member of the Port Townsend Elks Lodge. He spent the last 16 years of his life with his companion, Marion Schauer, travelling extensively and settling in Sequim.
Survivors include two daughters, Jacqueline Peck of Rancho Mirage, Calif., and Patricia Hall of Marysville; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
At Mr. Watland's request, there will be no service.

Peter Summerill
Peter Summerill, 66, of Manchester died Sept. 13, 1998, of heart failure at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
He was born Dec. 22, 1931, in Wakefield in Yorkshire, England, to Herbert and Ada (Porter) Robinson.
He was raised in West Seattle, graduating from high school in 1950. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in fine arts from Central Washington State College in Ellensburg.
He married
Shirley L. Davis on April 21, 1954, in Grants Pass, Ore.
Mr. Summerill served in the Navy from 1952 to 1953 aboard the USS Talladega during the Korean conflict. Later, he worked as an art teacher at South Kitsap High School, retiring in 1987 after 30 years.
He was a member of the Manchester Community Church and the Harper Evangelical Free Church of Port Orchard.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, David of Miami and Michael of Belfair; one daughter, Kara Cuplin of Gold Bar; one sister, Jeanne Joncas of Poulsbo; one stepsister, Dorothy Saulnier of Palm Desert, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Briana, Craig, Kaitlyn, Lindsey Summerill, all of Miami; Whitney and Mikaela Arns of Gold Bar; and Jessica Battles of Belfair.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sept. 17 at Harper Evangelical Free Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home.

Robert Ballew
Robert A. Ballew, 72, of Bremerton died Sept. 12, 1998, at Bremerton Convalescent Center.
He was born March 30, 1926, in Seattle. He was raised and educated in Bremerton.
On July 30, 1944, he married
Bonnie Brown in Amarillo, Texas.
Mr. Ballew served in the Army and the Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked as a welder at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard from the end of the war until retiring in 1981.
He was a member of the Bremerton Yacht Club, and former Commodore, the Blue Gavel of Bremerton Boat Club.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Lyle of Port Orchard and Charles of Bremerton; one daughter, Linda Metty of Miles City, Mont.; one sister, Maysie Lord of Escondido, Calif.; one brother, William of Ocean Shores; and four grandchildren, Theresa and Brett Ballew, and Jamie and Dusti Metty.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 17, at Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Ina Miller
Ina Mabel Miller, 93, of Shelton, died Sept. 9, 1998, of heart failure in Shelton.
She was born Sept. 15, 1904, in Norway, Mich., to Victor A. and Agnes Alida (Lindahl) Nelson. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1922.
She married
Alvin L. Miller on Jan. 18, 1930. He preceded her in death on Aug. 2, 1987.
Mrs. Miller worked for J.T. Steeb Custom House Brokers.
She is survived by a brother, Howard I. Nelson; a sister, Hazel L. Jones; a nephew, Keith R. Jones; and a niece, Karen L. Williams, all of Portland, Ore.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 16 at St. David Episcopal Church, North Third and West Cedar in Shelton.
