James Starr
James R. Starr, 66, of Bremerton died June 2, 2000, in Port Orchard of cancer.
He was born Jan. 11, 1934, in Seattle, to Bill and Mabel (Kolb) Starr. He attended Peninsula High School in Purdy.
He married
Georgia Maye Steveson in Tacoma.
Mr. Starr served in the Army from 1953 to 1955 as a private first class and radio technician. He later worked as a finish carpenter.
He enjoyed playing golf and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Charles of Bremerton; three daughters, Vickie Starr of Port Orchard, Michelle Bell of Port Hadlock and Sue Bekkelund of Waco, Texas; one brother, Ed of Republic; one sister, Betty Durant of Belfair; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Olalla Grange Hall. Arrangements are under the direction of Kitsap Cremation and Burial Society.

Alfred Graden
Alfred Lynn Graden, 81, of Silverdale died May 31, 2000, in Poulsbo from pneumonia and Alzheimer's disease. He had lived in Silverdale since 1946.
He was born Oct. 28, 1918, in Beach, N.D., to John and Charlotte Graden. He graduated from Silverdale High School in 1936.
He married
June Marie Murdoch on Aug. 23, 1941, in Clio, Mich. She preceded him in death in 1999.
Mr. Graden served in the Army Air Corps from 1940 to 1945, achieving the rank of master sergeant.
He was an electrician at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 24 years, retiring in 1974.
Mr. Graden was a member of the William H. Upton Lodge Free and Accepted Masons in Bremerton. He was well-known for baking Swedish coffee bread from his mother's recipe, which originated in Sweden.
Survivors include one son, Alfred "Chip" Jr. of Silverdale; three daughters, Charlotte Thornton of Port Orchard, Lynda Amundson of Auburn and Sue Sehmel of Gig Harbor; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by seven siblings, Al, Art, Fonz, Willard, Marie Harmon, Mildred McClelland and Julia Patterson.
A memorial service is planned for noon Wednesday at Unity Church of Bremerton. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Donna Dillenburg
Donna Dillenburg, 70, of Bremerton died of cancer June 3, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Nov. 7, 1929, in Lancaster, Minn., to Thomas and Zelma (O'Grady) McKibbin.
She married
Richard Dillenburg in Oregon. He preceded her in death in 1997.
Mrs. Dillenburg was a member of the Elks and the Eagles.
Survivors include two sons, Terry of Midwest City, Okla., and Michael of Bremerton; two daughters, Tani Kimball of Bremerton and Lanette Baertschiger of Belfair; three sisters, Mickie Kokich and Karen Hering, both of Beaverton, Ore., and Leone Hughes of Oregon; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie Hoff, and two brothers, Kenny and Wayne McKibbin.
Inurnment will take place at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent. Arrangements are under the direction of Tuell-McKee of Bremerton.

George Weisgerber
George Weisgerber, 62, of Bremerton and Canada died of esophageal cancer
May 19, 2000, in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada.
He was born May 27, 1937, in Broemhead, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Felix and Elizabeth (Zimmerman) Weisgerber.
He married
Hilda Wutzke in July 1964 in Medicine Hat, Alberta. The couple later divorced.
Mr. Weisgerber was a professional painter.
Survivors include his former wife of Calgary, Alberta; one daughter, Valerie Hansen of Silverdale; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Frances, and one brother, Mark, in 1985.
A private service was held in Lethbridge, with interment in Medicine Hat. Arrangements were under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral Home in Lethbridge.
Jim McGuirl
James "Jim" McGuirl, 47, of Port Orchard died of intestinal bleeding June 4, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Feb. 18, 1953, in Jamaica, Long Island, N.Y., to James and Mary (Beale) McGuirl. He graduated from Madison High School in San Diego in 1971, and attended Olympic College in Bremerton.
Mr. McGuirl was a chef for 20 years. He enjoyed baseball and fishing.
Survivors include his mother of Port Orchard; one daughter, Rebecca G. McGuirl of Chelan; and one sister, Flo Scheib of Port Orchard.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Gene Blevins
Gene Blevins, 62, of Kingston died June 5, 2000, at his home.
He was born March 16, 1938, in Harvey, Ill., to Alfred and Mae (Earnest) Brown Sr.
Mr. Blevins served in the Air Force, achieving the rank of airman second class.
He married
Ramona Smith on June 28, 1958, in Snohomish. She preceded him in death in 1999.
Mr. Blevins was a tool and die maker for The Boeing Co., retiring in 1999 after more than 10 years. He was a machinist for more than 30 years.
He enjoyed attending baseball games. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include two sons, Derek of Snohomish and Jason of Port Orchard; two daughters, Nancy Le May of Kingston and Hope Clark of Oak Harbor; and five grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth, in 1959.
A funeral service is planned for 1 p.m Friday at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel, with interment at Cherry Grove Memorial Park.

John Chelgren
Capt. John L. Chelgren, 74, of Port Orchard died June 1, 2000, at his home.
He was born June 10, 1925, in Superior, Wis., to David and Mildred (Lawler) Chelgren. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., in 1947, and from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1952.
He married
Ruth Henderson on June 15, 1947, in Long Beach, Calif. She preceded him in death in 1997.
He served in the Navy for 26 years, achieving the rank of captain and retiring in 1972. He was honored for meritorious service as technical director for the anti-air warfare ship acquisition project (1969 to 1972).
He enjoyed skiing (snow and water) and mountain climbing.
Survivors include three sons, J. Jeff of Ontario, Calif., Scott of Edmonds and Rod of West Chester, Pa.; four daughters, Kristine Marbourg of Brentwood, Md., Pamela Koterba of Valdez, Alaska, Jan Chelgren of Seattle and Karen Desmond of Castle Rock, Colo.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Don Diebolt
Don Diebolt, 48, of Port Orchard died June 4, 2000, in Port Orchard.
He was born May 26, 1952, in Dearborn, Mich., to George and Alice Diebolt. He graduated from high school in Dearborn in 1970.
Mr. Diebolt served in the Navy and the Naval Reserve, achieving the rank of warrant officer. He received the Navy Achievement Medal and the Naval Reserve Meritorious Service Medal.
He was a marine machinery mechanic at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 18 years.
He married
Kelly (Conner) Greene on Oct. 8, 1988, in Port Orchard.
Mr. Diebolt was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a Boy Scout leader. He was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard.
Survivors include his wife; his mother; one stepson, Matt Greene of Port Orchard; four brothers, Mike, Pat and Tim, all of Michigan, and Rick of Orlando, Fla.; and one sister, Sue Lynch of Michigan.
A memorial service is planned for 3 p.m. Friday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Bobbi Davis
Ofra M. "Bobbi" Davis, 94, of Bremerton died June 5, 2000, in Bremerton of natural causes.
She was born Oct. 29, 1905, in Heyst, Belgium, to Frank and Victoria (Eeckhout) Savels.
She married
Arthur S. Davis on June 19, 1926, in Seattle. He preceded her in death in 1990.
Mrs. Davis was a clerk with Sears Roebuck department stores for 20 years, until retiring in 1941.
She was a member of the Sons of Norway and enjoyed dancing. She was a member of the Catholic church.
Survivors include seven cousins, Peter Miller of Great Falls, Mont., Jack and Bill Miller, both of Everett, Harriet Moreau of Bellevue, John Tershin and Lou Eeckhout, both of Seattle, and Nancy Roughley of Shelton.
A funeral service is planned for 2 p.m. Thursday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel, with interment at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.

Edith Benson
Edith M. Benson, 88, of Scottsdale, Ariz., and formerly of Graham died of natural causes June 4, 2000, in Scottsdale.
She was born Oct. 27, 1911, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Martin and Gudren (Simonsen) Hagen. She was a high school graduate and had attended three years of college.
She was a homemaker. She had been a member of PEO Chapter "CG, " the Harrison Hospital Auxiliary in Bremerton and Silverdale Lutheran Church.
Her husband preceded her in death. Survivors include two sons, Philip Clifton Benson of Scottsdale and Roger Clifton Benson of Edmonds; one sister, Muriel Olsen of Bremerton; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Her family will hold a memorial service in Silverdale. Arrangements are under the direction of Messinger Indian School Mortuary in Scottsdale.

Jeuyl Bell
Jeuyl R. Bell, 79, died May 31, 2000, at her home in Harper.
Bell was born in Williams, Calif., to George and Colona (Baylard) Reister. She graduated from Williams High School in 1938, and then from beauty school in 1939.
In 1943, she married
Lyle W. Bell in Williams. He preceded her in death in 1996.
Bell enjoyed quilting and sewing, and was active in Christ the Rock Church in Port Orchard.
She is survived by two sons, Maj. Raymond L. (Ret.) of Albuquerque, N.M., and James of Port Orchard; a daughter, Diana Plotner of Wichita, Kan.; a sister, Melva Herrmann of Williams; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A visitation, with reception, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Rill Chapel. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Rill Chapel, with interment at Sedgwick cemetery.
