Joseph Steveson
Former Gig Harbor resident Joseph F. "Mountain Man Joe" Steveson, 66, of Oak Harbor died May 25, 2000, in Oak Harbor of natural causes.
He was born April 27, 1934, in Peoria, Ill., to Charles and Virginia (McFarland) Steveson. He attended Peninsula High School in Gig Harbor.
Mr. Steveson served in the Navy from 1951 to 1968.
Survivors include two sons, Joseph F. Jr. of Gig Harbor and Jeff of Port Orchard; two daughters, Kathy Couture of Plain and Julie Rains of Port Orchard; three brothers; two sisters; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Olalla Grange.

Jackie Myers
A celebration of life for Jeanette "Jackie" (Spiker) Myers is planned for noon June 6 at Central Kitsap Christian Church. A tribute was published May 3.
Blanche Childress
Blanche Childress, 93, of Belfair died of natural causes May 28, 2000, at Port Orchard Care Center.
She was born July 25, 1906, in Hoisington, Kan., to Mr. and Mrs. Quincey Jessup. She graduated from high school in Hoisington.
She married
Jess Childress on Sept. 5, 1925, in Hoisington. He preceded her in death in 1977.
Mrs. Childress was employed at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 22 years, until retiring in 1966.
She was a member of a senior citizens organization in Belfair, the Order of the Eastern Star 241 in Belfair and Belfair Community Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Del of Sitka, Alaska, Jerry of Belfair and Bob of Bremerton; one daughter, Naida Bell Daly of Belfair; eight grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Belfair Community Baptist Church. Inurnment will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Donald Hike
Donald L. Hike, 68, of Bremerton died May 26, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Oct. 25, 1931, in Seattle to Lester Strick and Audrey Caychman.
He graduated from Bremerton High School in 1951.
Mr. Hike served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1975. He achieved the rank of senior master sergeant, earning a bronze star.
He was part owner of Hank's Grocery in Chico.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
He married
Phyllis Spalding on June 7, 1952, in Port Orchard.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Gaylene Davis of Port Orchard and Leslie Hike of Bremerton; two sons, Ross and Jeffery, both of Bremerton; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Tom; and two sisters, Sally Anderson and Nancy Weese.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Minnie Stine
Minnie E. Stine, 90, of Poulsbo died of natural causes May 29, 2000, in Gig Harbor.
She was born Dec. 14, 1909, in Kalispell, Mont., to Leroy and Ella (Cooper) Maxum.
She graduated from Coontz High School in Bremerton in 1926 and attended Olympic College.
She married
Lawrence E. Stine on Aug. 12, 1932, in Bremerton. He preceded her in death in 1996.
She was a published poet and essayist. She was employed as a clerical worker at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 15 years, until retiring in 1967.
She was a member of the Bremerton Masonic Temple and a matron of Reliance Chapter of the Eastern Star. She was a member of First Christian Church.
Survivors include two grandchildren, Talman Welle of Poulsbo and Dalton Welle of Aberdeen. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Martha Ann Thatcher in 1993; two sons, Robert Thatcher in 1999 and infant Leroy Stine; two brothers, Harold Maxum in 1969 and Marion Maxum in 1994; and one sister, Irene Amidan in 1986.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. June 8 at First Christian Church in Bremerton. Inurnment will take place at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Weston Davis
Weston James Davis, 18 days old, of Port Orchard died May 23, 2000, at Tacoma General Hospital.
He was born May 5, 2000, in Tacoma to Kimberly Wilson and Mark Davis.
Survivors include his parents; his paternal grandparents, Nancy and Dave Smith of Eureka, Calif.; and his maternal grandparents, Steve and Lynna Villano of Aurora, Colo.
There will be a private family gathering. Arrangements are by Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Kathleen Christey
Kathleen M. Christey, 51, of Port Orchard died May 28, 2000, at Harrison Hospital due to complications from pneumonia.
She was born June 13, 1948, in Tacoma to Marshall F. and Anne (Humphrey) Christey.
She graduated from St. Leo's High School in Tacoma in 1966, the University of Washington in 1973 and Western State College of Colorado in 1976.
She was a teacher at Crownhill Elementary School for the past 17 years.
Survivors include one brother, Patrick of Port Orchard; and two sisters, Ruth Christey of Baltimore and JoAnn Christey McDougall of Highland, Calif.
A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Keith Uehling
Keith Kirk Uehling, 75, of Southworth died of severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease May 23, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Dec. 28, 1924, in Uehling, Neb., to Harold T. and Bernice M. (Tessier) Uehling. He graduated from North High School in Omaha, Neb., and from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Neb.
Mr. Uehling served in the Army from 1943 to 1946.
He married
Shirley Gress on July 30, 1966, in Connell.
Mr. Uehling worked with the United States Corps of Engineers for 25 years, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of the Scottish Rite. He also had an interest in model trains.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Kristi Showalter of Southworth, Robin Lastovica of Bellevue, Neb., and Megan Samson of Omaha; one brother, Thad of Lothian, Md.; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Sheila Uehling in 1991, and Kathy Gerdes earlier this month.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. today at the Eagles in Port Orchard. Inurnment will take place in Kent. Arrangements are by Tuell-McKee of Bremerton.

Florence Parpart
Florence Roberta Parpart, 80, of Silverdale died May 28, 2000, in Silverdale.
She was born March 25, 1920, in Rugby, N.D., to Charles H. Rohrer and Katie A. Clark.
She graduated from Rugby High School in 1938. She worked for J.C. Penney Co. Inc. for 12 years and The Boeing Co. until her retirement in 1980. She enjoyed bingo and collected bears. She was a member of the Lutheran Church.
Survivors include one son, Jerry of Enumclaw; two daughters, Patricia Thurman and Susan Parpart, both of Silverdale; one brother, Charles Rohrer of Billings, Mont.; one sister, Ella Welch of North Dakota; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters and eight brothers.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Lewis Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Pearl Harris
Pearl Etta Harris, 82, of Allyn died May 28, 2000, at Cottesmore Life Care Center in Gig Harbor. She had lived in Allyn since 1984.
She was born March 14, 1918, in Kent to Charles and Addie (Bailey) Leigh. She graduated from Kent Senior High School in 1935.
She married
Frank Harris. He preceded her in death in 1977.
A homemaker, Mrs. Harris had worked for The Boeing Co. for a number of years.
She was a self-taught musician and also enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include two sons, Robert of Belfair and Derryl of Spanaway; two daughters, Sherryl Jackson of Auburn and Eileen Miller of Allyn; one sister, Dottie Sutherland of Seattle; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Edline-Yahn Funeral Chapel in Kent. A graveside service is planned for 11 a.m. Friday at Hillcrest Burial Park, also in Kent.

Ralph Pederson
Ralph E. Pederson, 87, of Poulsbo died May 29, 2000, at his home.
He was born April 5, 1913, in Brownsville to Peder and Kristina (Anderson) Pederson. He graduated from Bremerton High School in 1931.
He married
Evelyn Sleipness on Nov. 25, 1937, in Seattle.
Ralph and his twin brothers, William and Walter, owned and operated Pederson Brothers Brownsville Garage from 1934 to 1976. He later worked at the Keyport Naval Torpedo Station, retiring in 1976.
Ralph was a founding member of the Brownsville Fire Department and served for 26 years as a firefighter. He also served as fire commissioner for 12 years, retiring in 1983.
He was a member of Silverdale Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Fred of California and Brian of Brownsville; one sister, Leona Pope of Tracyton; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Barry, in 1962.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Silverdale Lutheran Church. Interment
will take place at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
