Lettie Jarrett
Lettie Jarrett, 68, of Port Orchard died May 22, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Sept. 27, 1931, in Hackberry, Texas, to William F. and Fannie B. (Perry) Colwell.
She graduated from Fort Davis High School in Fort Davis, Texas, in 1949, Olympic College in 1972 and Olympic College's nursing program in 1981. She was a homemaker and registered nurse for 16 years, until retiring in 1997.
She married
Bruce Jarrett on April 5, 1952, in Las Vegas, Nev.
She was involved with the American Red Cross in Port Orchard and the Port Orchard Chamber of Commerce. She also was a member of Burley-Glenwood Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband; her mother of San Saba, Texas; two sons, Ed of Bremerton and Steve of Port Orchard; one daughter, Audrey of Port Orchard; two brothers, John and Billy Colwell, both of Artesia, N.M.; one sister, Glenda Ragland of San Saba; and eight grandchildren.
A memorial will be at 6 p.m. Saturday at Burley-Glenwood Baptist Church in Port Orchard.

Nadine Eyler
Nadine W. Eyler, 73, of Bremerton died May 20, 2000, in Bremerton.
She was born Feb. 9, 1927, in Tacoma to Harold and Rhea (Miller) Bond.
She married
Lee E. Eyler on Dec. 24, 1942, in Centralia. He preceded her in death two months ago.
She was a school bus driver for the Central Kitsap School District for nine years.
Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Brown of Quilcene, Marlene Leyva of Bremerton and Gayle Wilbur of Olympia; one brother, Cliff Davis of Centralia; four sisters, Patsy Budziszewski of Chehalis, Jean Sellards, Judy Wentworth and Sheryl Reither, all of Centralia; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Bond.
Visitation will be at noon Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home with a graveside service to follow at 1 p.m.
Martin O'Donnell
Martin A. O'Donnell, 76, of Port Ludlow died of pneumonia May 22, 2000, at Martha & Mary Health Care Center in Poulsbo.
He was born Sept. 21, 1923, in Oakland, Calif., to Thomas and Jean (Davis) O'Donnell. He graduated from Albany High School in Albany, Calif., in 1941.
He served in the Army from 1942 to 1943, achieving the rank of corporal. He worked at Texaco for 35 years, before retiring.
He married
Alice Miller on May 20, 1945, in Oakland.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Martin of Gig Harbor; one daughter, Vicki Zimmer of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; two brothers, Charles of Elcerrito, Calif., and Patrick of Concord, Calif.; and one sister, Jacque Rossi of Davis, Calif.
A private service will be held. Memorial donations may be sent to Martha & Mary Nursing Services.
Steven Jones
Former Olalla resident Steven Michael Jones Sr., 50, of Lakewood died May 19, 2000, at his home.
He was born Nov. 5, 1949, in Tacoma to Jack and Aloha (Reeves) Jones. He was educated in Tacoma.
He married
Marlianne Ousley on Feb. 7, 1972, in Tacoma.
He served in the Army from 1968 to 1969. He also was a chef in restaurants.
Survivors include his wife; his mother; one son, Steven Jr. of Marietta, Ga.; two daughters, Kathleen of Olalla and Sheila of El Cajon, Calif.; one stepson, Jerry Ousley of Port Orchard; one sister, Mona Warring of Tacoma; one brother, H. Richard of Vancouver, Wash.; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lewis Funeral Chapel with inurnment at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent. Cremation is by Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo.
Jean Veldee Thompson
Former Bremerton resident Jean Veldee Thompson, 77, of Blackfoot, Idaho, died May 16, 2000, at Bingham County Extended Care Center.
She was born July 20, 1922, in Bremerton to Conrad and Maud (Wall) Veldee. She attended the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Olympic College and colleges in Twin Falls and Pocatello, Idaho.
She married
Richard Thompson. They later divorced.
She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Blackfoot.
Survivors include one son, Stephen of North Bend; one daughter, Judith Wolfe Wasco of Carmel, Calif.; one brother, Roy Veldee of Mercer Island; and one sister, Ruth Veldee Cowan of Bellevue.
A graveside service was held May 19 at Grove City cemetery in Blackfoot. Arrangements were by Grove City Funeral Home.

Valerie Buettgenbach
Valerie E. Buettgenbach, 84, of Bremerton died of natural causes May 19, 2000, at her home.
She was born Sept. 3, 1915, in Wisconsin to Rollo and Mary (Johnson) Brown.
She married
William H. Buettgenbach on Oct. 11, 1957, in Bremerton. She was a homemaker.
She enjoyed plants and animals. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include one son, David James of Jacksonville, Fla.; two daughters, Dolores Lane of Bremerton and Kari Dilg of Seabeck; one sister, Bonnie Brugman of Bellingham; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Roline Barrett.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. today at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
Victor Kachel
Victor John Kachel, 81, of Bremerton died May 20, 2000, at his home of cancer.
He was born Aug. 27, 1918, in Stutsman County, N.D., to Peter and Martha (Gospodar) Kachel.
He served as a technician in the Army from 1944 to 1946. He received a Combat Infantryman Badge and the Purple Heart for service in the southern Philippines.
He married
Jean (Lagergren) Newbill on Aug. 23, 1969, in Reno, Nev.
He worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 33 years, retiring in 1972. Previously, he had worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1936 to 1939.
He also was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Ellen Kachel Rankin of Salem, Ore.; one stepdaughter, Christie Newbill of Ellensburg; two stepsons, Gary Newbill of Issaquah and Robert Newbill of Kenmore; two brothers, Peter of California and Joe of Washington; three sisters, Addie Burgess of California and Joan Baker and Agatha Franta, both of Minnesota; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
No services are planned. Interment
will take place at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Kitsap County, P.O. Box 3416, Silverdale, WA 98383, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Florence Kittleson
Florence M. Kittleson, 91, of Shelton died of natural causes May 22, 2000, at her home.
She was born Nov. 5, 1908, in Yakima to Joseph L. and Mable G. (Wright) Brouelette.
She returned to school at age 50, receiving a certification in nursing. She then worked for nursing homes in Centralia, Chehalis, Olympia and Allyn.
She was a member of Amaranth and First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo. She enjoyed socializing.
Survivors include one stepson, Jerold Cook of Walla Walla; two daughters, Virginia Howe of Shelton and Shirley Tracy of Poulsbo; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
At her request, no services will be held. Arrangements are by McComb Funeral Home in Shelton.
Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army or to a local food bank.
Axel Benson
Axel Benson, 56, of Port Orchard died May 21, 2000, at Port Orchard Care Center from complications of Down Syndrome and Alzheimer's disease.
He was born Oct. 28, 1943, in Lynden to Arvid and Viola Benson.
Mr. Benson was a member of the Whatcom County Association for Retarded Citizens and Hope Lutheran Church in Lynden.
He is survived by one brother, Larry of Port Orchard. He was preceded in death by a brother, Arnold.
A celebration of life is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Benson residence, 1757 SW Bay St., in Port Orchard.

Patty Sewell
Patty K. Sewell, 46, of Port Orchard died May 19, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Sept. 19, 1953, in Bremerton to Arnold and Ruth (Rushing) Buckendorf.
She enjoyed camping and fishing.
She is survived by a companion, James Cassidy; her mother; three sons, Aaron, Darrin and Brian, all of Port Orchard; three sisters, Audrey Watson of Fraizer Lake, B.C., Phyllis Brown of Belfair and Barbara Stock of Bellingham; and two grandchildren.
Visitation was held Monday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. today at Christ the Rock Community Church with interment at Sunset Lane cemetery, both in Port Orchard.
Betty Rotsten
Betty Rotsten, 66, of Kingston died May 22, 2000, at her home of cancer.
She was born July 3, 1933, in Hendersonville, N.C., to Heyward and Flossie (Turner) Shealy. She graduated from high school in Hendersonville in 1951.
She married
John Rotsten on March 7, 1954, in San Diego. He preceded her in death in 1992.
She was a cashier at the Kingston Thriftway for 12 years, retiring in 1998.
She enjoyed cooking and gardening. She was a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church of North Kitsap in Kingston.
Survivors include her mother; three sons, Eric of Concord, Calif., and Brian and Glen, both of Kingston; one daughter, Susan Robins of Bourbonnais, Ill.; one brother, Earl Shealy of Santee, Calif.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother, Grady Shealy.
A graveside service is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday at Fort Worden cemetery in Port Townsend, followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church of North Kitsap.

Bud Freimuth
C.F. "Bud" Freimuth, 75, of Port Orchard died May 19, 2000, at his home of natural causes.
He was born Nov. 27, 1924, in Davis, S.D., to Fred and Rose (Larson) Freimuth. He attended Brookings College in Brookings, S.D.
He married
Doris M. Hillestad.
Mr. Freimuth was a shipfitter at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 15 years, retiring in 1965.
He played several musical instruments and enjoyed dancing.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Douglas of Las Vegas and Bob of Port Orchard; one daughter, Donna Strapach of Port Orchard; two brothers, Mel of Monroe and Marvin of Steilacoom; one stepbrother, Don Evans of Monroe; two sisters, Lila Youman of Savannah, Ga., and Alice Reid of Yakima; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A private, family gathering will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
