Rose Kottal
Rose Ruth Kottal, 85, of Bremerton died May 19, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Sept. 11, 1914, in Gulnare, Colo., to John and Maria (Marolt) Russ.
She enjoyed flower gardening and knitting.
Survivors include two sons, Basil R. Lanterno of Bremerton and Joseph "Bob" Lanterno of Anderson, Calif.; one stepson, Harvey E. Kottal of Sacramento, Calif.; three sisters, Frances Healy and Dorothy Aguirre, both of Colorado, and Julie Asmus of California; eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Basil Lanterno, in 1952; her second husband, Charles E. Kottal, in 1986; a daughter, Mary Lou Meister; two brothers; and three sisters.
A funeral service is planned for 1 p.m. Wednesday at Lewis Funeral Chapel with interment following at Forest Lawn cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Joe Cooper
Joseph Harold "Joe" Cooper, 70, of Bremerton died May 20, 2000, at Harrison Hospital of a heart attack.
He was born May 23, 1929, in Helena, Mont., to Joseph Augusta Cooper and Louise (Schroeder) Sparrow. He graduated from high school in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, in 1949.
Mr. Cooper enjoyed reading and playing darts. He was a Protestant.
Survivors include his companion, Ardyth Moore of Bremerton; three brothers, Lawrence of Bonners Ferry, Norman of Bremerton and Duane of Sandpoint, Idaho; and one sister, Lois Jensen of Sandpoint.
A graveside service is planned for 3 p.m. today at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Almeda Kemp
Almeda Loraine Kemp, 90, of Port Orchard died May 19, 2000, in Port Orchard.
She was born Oct. 2, 1909, in Suppula, Okla.
She was a member of a quilter's association which specializes in tie quilts.
Survivors include three sons, Henry Croman of Clarkston, Ferrell Croman of Pomeroy and Marlin Kemp of Sun Valley, Nev.; three daughters, Alice Walmsly of Port Orchard, Darlene Durden of Olympia and Katherine Cate of Fruitland, Idaho; 20 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
No services are planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Haven of Rest Funeral Home in Gig Harbor.

Edith Gideon
Edith Margaret Gideon, 91, of Bremerton died
May 20, 2000, in Bremerton.
She was born July 28, 1908, in Winslow to Josiah and Margaret (Harrison) Gideon. She graduated from Winslow High School in 1925, and in 1931 from the University of Washington.
She taught mathematics and physics at Olympic College for 27 years, retiring in 1973.
She was a member of Sigma Xi and the Kitsap County Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by a nephew, Robert Gideon of Fairfax, Va. She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Gideon.
No services are planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel with cremation by Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo.
James Sechrest
James Murphy Sechrest, 84, of Charlotte, N.C., whose son Robert lives in Bremerton, died in Asheville, N.C., on May 20, 2000.
He was born July 31, 1915, in Charlotte to John and Mittie Propst Sechrest. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was the station manager of the Derita post office until his retirement in 1975. He was a member of the Derita Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gertrude, of the family home; a son, Robert of Bremerton; two daughters, Pattie Worrick of Hephzibah, Ga., and Terry Herron of Charlotte; a brother, Tracy of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Betty Sechrest of Daytona Beach, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Derita Presbyterian Church. He will lie in state at the church for 30 minutes before the service. Interment
will follow at Sharon Memorial Park.

Patty Sewell
Patty K. Sewell, 46, of Port Orchard died May 19, 2000, at Harrison Hospital in Bremerton.
She was born Sept. 19, 1953, in Bremerton to Arnold and Ruth (Rushing) Buckendorf.
She enjoyed camping and fishing.
She is survived by her companion, James Cassidy; her mother, Ruth Buckendorf; three sons, Aaron, Darrin and Brian Sewell, all of Port Orchard; three daughters, Audrey Watson of Fraizer Lake, B.C., Phyllis Brown of Belfair and Barbara Stock of Bellingham; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Christ the Rock Church with interment at Sunset Lane cemetery.

Mary Simpson
Mary Elizabeth Simpson, 76, of Port Orchard died of leukemia May 19, 2000, at her home.
She was born Nov. 1, 1923, in Tacoma to John and Mary (Porter) Owens.
She was raised in Tacoma and attended Stadium High School.
She was a 40-year member of First Lutheran Church, a Golden Acorn recipient for her involvement with the PTA, and a volunteer for 39 years with the T.C. Baldwin Orthopedic Guild.
She is survived by her husband, David Simpson, whom she married
Oct. 18, 1946, in Tacoma.
Other survivors are two sons, Dennis of Bremerton and Gary of Port Orchard; a daughter, Colleen of Seattle; a brother, John Owens Jr. of Milton; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard. The family will greet friends there from 6 to 8 p.m. that night.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church in Port Orchard with interment to follow at Sunset Lane cemetery.

Clint Conn
Clint Gregory Conn, 31, of Bremerton died at his home on May 15, 2000.
He was born in Bremerton on Oct. 22, 1968. He attended Central Kitsap High School and later was an auto mechanic. He enjoyed antiques.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Dorothy and Robert O'Dell of Coquille, Ore.; father and stepmother, Bruce and Patty Conn of Bremerton; a son, Justin of Bremerton; and grandparents Maxine and Bob Conn of Arizona and Betty and Lyle Hess.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Lewis Funeral Chapel with burial to follow at Ivy Green cemetery, both in Bremerton.
Herbert Wilson
Herbert Louis Wilson, 75, of Bremerton died May 16, 2000, in Silverdale.
He was born March 1, 1925, in Bayside, Long Island, N.Y., to Alfred and Kathryn (Bunn) Wilson. He grew up in Bayside, Long Island, receiving a degree in mechanical engineering from New York College.
Mr. Wilson served in the Navy from 1943 to 1945.
He married
Ruth Tapia on May 22, 1948, in Bayside, Long Island.
He worked for Lockheed Aerospace in San Jose, Calif., as director of field operations for 40 years, retiring in 1990.
Mr. Wilson was a member of the National Association of Clocks.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Bruce of Reno, Nev.; one daughter, Donna Krawetz of Bremerton; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at noon Wednesday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Doris Stevenson
Doris Ann Powers Stevenson, 59, of Kingston died May 15, 2000, in Bremerton.
She was born June 5, 1940, in Eugene, Ore., to Thomas and Gwenn (Stivers) Powers. She grew up in Eugene, graduating from Willamette High School in 1958 and attending Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore.
She married
Ted R. Stevenson on Aug. 14, 1983, in Reno, Nev.
She was an award-winning journalist who worked for a number of newspapers over a period of 17 years. She retired in 1998.
She was a member of the Boot N Slippers square dance club of Merced, Calif., and the Boot Jack Stompers of Mariposa, Calif., among other clubs. She was also active in the Disciples of Christ at First Christian Church in Modesto, Calif.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Roxane Brown of Kingston and Christin Connolly-Collura of Tracy, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Sherri Alvarado of Clovis, Calif., and Shannon Macedo of Modesto, Calif.; one brother, Alan Powers of Anchorage, Alaska; four grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Modesto. Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.
Eva Mathews
Eva M. Mathews, 95, of Port Orchard died May 17, 2000, at her home. She had been a resident of Port Orchard for the past five years and was a former resident of Manson.
She was born June 11, 1904, in Baird to Carlos and Minnie (Garland) McDonough. In 1905, she moved with her family to Wenatchee, where she was raised and educated.
She married
Ralph M. Mathews on Sept. 30, 1922, in Wenatchee. He preceded her in death in 1986.
Mrs. Mathews worked at the Owl Drug Store in Wenatchee for a number of years.
She was a member of the Washington State Federation of Women's Clubs, the Lake Chelan Fortnightly chapter and the Native Daughters of Washington Territorial Pioneers.
Survivors include two sons, Jim of Wenatchee and Don of Walla Walla; two daughters, Phyllis Weagant of Manson and Marilyn Eure of Port Orchard; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by one grandchild, two great-grandchildren and three sisters.
A service of commemoration is planned for 2 p.m. Monday at Jones and Jones Funeral Home in Wenatchee, with interment following in the Wenatchee City cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Port Orchard Emergency Medical Technicians, Kitsap Fire District 7 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Helen Sanders
Helen Doris Sanders, 77, of Colville died April 25, 2000, in Colville of non-small cell lung carcinoma. She was a 62-year resident of Bremerton, having lived in Colville for 15 years.
She was born Jan. 11, 1923, in Doty to Pete and Hazel (Thompson) Cheplak. She grew up in Bremerton, graduating from Bremerton High School.
She married
Charles W. Sanders. Mrs. Sanders was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Sandra Chizek of Lovell, Wyo., and Joanne Daniel of Atlanta, Texas; two stepsons, Larry and Charles Sanders, both of Colville; two stepdaughters, Shirley Sanders and Patty Moorehead, both of Colville; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
No services are planned. Inurnment took place at Mountain View Park cemetery in Colville. Arrangements were under the direction of Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville.
