Robert Heyne
Robert L. Heyne, 78, of Port Orchard died May 12, 2000, at Tacoma General Hospital.
He was born May 14, 1921, in Dixon, Mont., to Arthur and Lilly (Woods) Heyne. He grew up in Dixon, graduating from Dixon High School in 1939.
He married
Florence Stearns on Feb. 12, 1945, in Bremerton.
Mr. Heyne served in the Navy for four years during World War II.
He was a purchasing agent with the Fleet and Industrial Supply Center Puget Sound for 35 years, retiring in 1977.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Leonard of Port Orchard; two daughters, Lavina Hillman of Redmond and Diane Winniford of Port Orchard; four grandchildren, Jason and Jarett Winniford, both of Port Orchard, Richard Hillman of Redmond and Kristen Heyne of Bremerton; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Haven of Rest Memorial Park in Gig Harbor. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Margaret O'Donnell
Margaret Evelyn O'Donnell, 64, of Bremerton died May 9, 2000, in Bremerton.
She was born Sept. 9, 1935, in Fresno, Calif. She graduated from high school Bremerton in 1953.
She was as a licensed practical nurse for more than 40 years, culminating her career at the Kitsap County Health Department.
She was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church.
She married
Albert O'Donnell on Nov. 10, 1976, in Bremerton.
Survivors include her husband; her mother, Ruth Cole of Bremerton; two sons, William Erickson of San Jose, Calif. and Andrew Erickson of Klamath Falls, Ore.; two daughters, Sylvia Nelson and Delmarie Staggs, both of Kingston; one sister, Barbara Sutton of Gorst; one brother, Richard Pense of Spokane; nine grandchildren, Douglas O'Donnell, Jr. of Keyport, Karie Jones of Cle Elum, Melissa Evans of Ft. Bragg, N.C., Michele Keeler of Shenandoah, Iowa, Amanda, William and Jessica Erickson, all of Klamath Falls, Ore., Marty Buck of Kingston and Roger Buck of the Naval Training Center in Michigan; and three great-grandchildren, Joseph Evans and Alexandria and Ashlyn Keeler, all of Shenandoah, Iowa. She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Pense, in 1997.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Silverdale. Cremation is under the direction of Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo, with arrangements by Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Audrey Taylor
Audrey Elizabeth Taylor, 82, of Bremerton died May 11, 2000 at Forest Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born July 10, 1917, in David City, Neb., to Nicholas and Hazel (Montague) Schmitt. She grew up in Nebraska, Kansas and Colorado, graduating from Lexington High School in Lexington, Neb. She also graduated from Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, Minn.
She married
Donald Taylor on Nov. 14, 1947, in Tacoma.
Mrs. Taylor had worked as a registered nurse at the old Harrison Memorial Hospital and also the new one. She had taught with the licensed practical nursing program at Olympic College.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Kenneth of Seattle and Ernest of Bremerton; and three grandchildren, Meghan and Ryan Taylor and Robert Kirby.
A celebration of life is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Cremation is under the direction of Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo, with inurnment at Forest Lawn cemetery.
Robert Shafer
Robert William Shafer, 79, of Poulsbo died May 8, 2000 at Harrison Hospital of pancreatitus with multiple complications.
He was born Aug. 3, 1920, in Sutherlin, Ore., to William Henry and Emma Mary (Barge) Shafer. He grew up in Oakland, Calif.
He married
Jeanine "Toby" Thornley in Santa Cruz, Calif.
Mr. Shafer served in the Navy from 1939 to 1945.
He retired from the California Youth Authority in Norwalk, Calif. in 1975, after almost 30 years. That same year, he moved to Poulsbo where he and his wife opened Log Cabin Antiques near the Hood Canal Bridge.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Claudia Paulson of Poulsbo; two grandchildren, Tiffany Hodges and Wesley Robert Wendell, both of Bremerton; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, John Henry "Jack" Shafer.
At his request, there will be no services. Memorial donations may be made to Children's Hospital or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Duane Strand
Duane O. Strand, 64, of Bremerton died May 8, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Oct. 18, 1935, in Bismarck, N.D., to Martin and Ida (Standley) Strand. He came to the North Kitsap area at the age of 5, attending Breidablik grade school, then moving to Bremerton, where he continued his education.
Mr. Strand served in the Air Force for four years.
Following his discharge, he worked for Eddie's Auto Glass in Bremerton for 30 years, then for Doc's Auto Glass in Bremerton. He later opened his own glass shop in Poulsbo, relocating to Keyport and retiring from that business.
Survivors include two sons, Doug of Bellevue and Scott of Snohomish; one daughter, Vickie Huff of Graham; two sisters, Ila Penner of Canoga Park, Calif., and Alvina Schanck of Granada Hills, Calif.; two brothers, Merle Strand of Poulsbo and Martin Strand Jr. of Bremerton; and six grandchildren, Kari, James, Felisha, Scotty, Kathryn and Amanda. He was preceded in death by eight brothers and three sisters.
A graveside service is planned for 3 p.m. Friday at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Ruth Hasenstab
Ruth L. Hasenstab, 83, of Port Orchard died May 9, 2000, at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard of cancer.
She was born Dec. 22, 1916, in Chicago to Robert J. and Hattie (Ziemer) Knox. She grew up in Chicago.
She served in the Women's Army Corps from 1942 to 1945, seeing duty as a sergeant in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada. She received the World War II Victory Medal.
She married
Charles A. Hasenstab in 1950, in Temple City, Calif. He preceded her in death in 1969.
She was an elementary school teacher for 25 years in Monrovia, Calif., retiring in 1974.
She was a charter member of Women in Military Service for America. She had also been a member of the California Teachers, the Kitsap Pines Sweet Adelines and was a charter member of the Na Lei O Lani Sweet Adelines in Honolulu.
Survivors include one daughter, Rita Mitchell of Port Orchard; one brother, Leonard Knox of Seminole, Fla.; four grandchildren, Nicole Livesay of Houston, Sean Stockton of Tacoma and Chad Stockton and Scotty McConnehey, both of Port Orchard; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held on May 23 at the Punchbowl National cemetery in Honolulu.
Mary Vickers
Mary E. Vickers, 97, of Bremerton died May 8, 2000, at Bremerton Health and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. Before her illness, she had been a resident of Maple Valley for the past 20 years.
She was born Mary E. Ruff on Jan. 24, 1903, in Glendive, Mont. She came to Bremerton with her family at the start of World War II, moving to Seattle after the war.
She married
Llewellyn N. Vickers in Montana. He preceded her in death.
Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Vickers also had worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard during World War II and later as a resort worker in Palm Springs, Calif.
Survivors include two sons, Lawrence of Renton and Robert of Maple Valley; three daughters, Lucille McHarry of Hemet, Calif., Phyllis Weber of Bremerton and Dolores Estell of Mount Vernon; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a son, Llewellyn Vickers Jr.
A graveside service is planned for 11 a.m. today at Mount Olivet cemetery in Renton. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society Kitsap Unit, P.O. Box 2383, Bremerton, WA 98310.
Ida Hefner
Ida Clara Hefner, 98, of Bremerton died May 9, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born June 18, 1901, in Geneva, Switzerland, to Edward and Marie (Ruf) Baertschiger. She came to the United States with her family in 1905, living in New Jersey and California before moving to Bremerton.
She married
Floyd Hefner on Aug. 27, 1930. He preceded her in death in 1960.
She worked for the telephone company from 1920 until her retirement in 1954.
She had been a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton since 1934. She helped establish the church's religious education program, served as the program secretary for 20 years, and was a member of the altar society. She also was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral liturgy is planned for 11 a.m. Monday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, with interment following at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to altar society of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
Isabelle Arnold
Isabelle M. Arnold, 81, of Bremerton died May 8, 2000, at Harrison Hospital. She had been a resident of Bremerton since 1996.
She was born Jan. 2, 1919, in Denver, Colo., to John P. and Anastasia (Neary) McNulty. She was raised and educated in Denver.
She married
John F. Arnold in 1940. He preceded her in death this year.
A homemaker, Mrs. Arnold had been employed by the Denver Register for several years.
She had been active in PTA at St. Ann School in Salt Lake City. She also was a member of an altar society.
Survivors include one son, John of Clearlake, Calif.; three daughters, Joan Beale of Valencia, Calif., Kathleen Brimer of Bremerton and Gail Dewey of Silverdale; five grandchildren, Shawn Beale, Michael Beale and Liz Gregory, all of Valencia, Glen Dewey of Virginia Beach, Va., and Denise Paschal of Seattle; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. today at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A rosary will be said at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bremerton, with a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. A graveside service follows at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Roy Boad
Roy A. Boad, 77, of Belfair, died May 7, 2000, at his home. He was born in Belfair Nov. 14, 1922, to Robert P. Boad and Dorothy McManaman Boad.
Mr. Boad was a lifelong resident of Belfair. He married
Ruby Pearl Mullen on Aug. 15, 1943, in Bremerton. Prior to retirement, he worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a pipefitter and material chaser.
He is survived by his wife; twin brother, LeRoy, of Shelton and brothers Bill of Mesa, Ariz., Charlie of Belfair and Bennie of Olalla; three sons, Ken, Jim and Butch, all of Belfair; 10 grandchildren, Bryan, Cherilynn, Brandee, Cuyler, Shirlene, Teresa, Jessica, Lee, Heather and Megan; and two great-grandchildren.
