Doris Miller
Doris K. Miller, 79, of Longbranch, died May 9, 2000, at her home.
She was born Dec. 8, 1920, in New Effington, S.D., to Peter and Anna (Anderson) Spethmann. She grew up in New Effington, graduating from high school there. She later attended teachers' college.
She served in the Army National Guard during World War II in Sacramento and California.
She married
Glen A. Miller on April 28, 1959, in Imperial Beach, Calif.
She worked as a secretary for the Kitsap County Area Agency On Aging for 10 years, retiring in 1986. She had also been a secretary for the Senior Alert newspaper in Port Orchard.
She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 2669 in Port Orchard and the Longbranch Improvement Club.
Survivors include her husband; six daughters, Linda Johnson of Columbia, N.C., Patricia Glass of Portland, Ore., Kathy Courval and Debi Rashal, both of San Diego, Susan Vanderstall of Poway, Calif., and Dee Dee Crowder of Port Orchard; 16 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Spethmann.
Visitation is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. Interment
will take place at Longbranch cemetery after the service.

Roger Philbrook
Roger Mark Philbrook, 88, of Bremerton died May 7, 2000, in Bremerton.
He was born July 23, 1911, in Webster, S.D., to Raymond and Grace (Phillips) Philbrook. He was raised and educated in Edgely, N.D.
He married
Lois Dekker on Aug. 28, 1935, in Aberdeen, S.D.
Mr. Philbrook moved to Bremerton in 1943 and began working in the supply department at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He retired in 1969.
He was a member of Kitsap Golf & Country Club.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Karen Purbaugh of Bremerton and Susan Brink of Colville; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
At his request, there will be no services. Cremation is under the direction of Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo, with arrangements by Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Geneva Porter
Geneva B. Porter, 84, of Twisp and formerly of Belfair, died April 27, 2000, at Harmony House in Brewster.
She was born Feb. 11, 1916, in McCleary to Henry and Altha (Estes) Berkshire. She grew up in the McCleary and Shelton areas.
She married
Jay Richard Porter on Oct. 12, 1947, in Everett. They lived in Belfair where they owned and operated Jay's Hardware.
Mrs. Porter had also worked as a bus driver, a telephone operator, a waitress and a bartender. She managed the Eagle's Lodge in Twisp before retiring.
Her husband preceded her in death. Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Erickson of Maple Valley and Carolee Addis of Twisp; 12 grandchildren, Mary Ann Bettner of Fox Island, Mark Addis of East Wenatchee, Mark Johnston and Donald Erickson, both of Black Diamond, Melissa Johnston of Renton, Jodi Actenburg of Kent, Ivor McCray IV of Mt. Vernon, Dayne McCray of Rochester, Kelly Johnston of Auburn, Rhys McCray of Olympia, Shari Rutt of Maple Valley and Jenny Lynn Addis of Twisp; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon McCray, one brother, Harold Berkshire and a grandson.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. May 28 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Twisp. Memorial donations may be made to AERO Methow Rescue Service in Twisp.
Ralph Van Buskirk
Ralph Floyd "Corkey" Van Buskirk, 69, of Bremerton died April 27, 2000, in Bremerton.
He was born Oct. 22, 1930, in Vancouver, Wash., to Ralph and Frances (Harris) Van Buskirk.
He had been employed at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and at The Boeing Company.
Survivors include his former wife, Florence Veach of Bremerton; five sons, Robert of Tacoma, James of Germany and Mike, Floyd and Jack, all of Bremerton; two daughters, Vicki Taylor of Port Orchard and Cheryl Strugell of Florida; five brothers, Gilbert of California, Bill of Port Orchard, Marvin of Chitina, Alaska, Ernest of Silverdale and Richard Porter of Shelton; two sisters, Peggy Macy of Valdez, Alaska and Barbara Stephens of Tacoma; six grandchildren, all of Bremerton; and three great-grandchildren, all of Port Orchard. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack, and a sister, Dorothy Smith.
A memorial service is planned for 5 p.m. Saturday at the Neighborhood Christian Center in Bremerton, with a reception following.
Lucille Eggert
Lucille Ellen Eaton Eggert, 91, of Port, 2000, Townsend, died April 26 at Kah Tai Care Center in Port Townsend.
She was born Oct. 1, 1908, in Maroon, N.D., to Lee Eaton and Catherine Simon Eaton. She was raised in Lignite, N.D., and later moved to Port Townsend, where she married
Arnold Eggert in 1945. She worked for many years at Baker Uptown Drug in Port Townsend. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the Women's Group and Birthday Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1983, and by two brothers and a sister. Survivors include a sister, Gladys Sernsen of Lignite, N.D.
A memorial service will be held today at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Port Townsend. A luncheon reception will follow. Following cremation, inurnment will be at Flaxton cemetery in Flaxton, N.D.
Local arrangements are under the direction of Kosec Funeral Home and Crematory in Port Townsend.
Irene Lambert
Irene J. Lambert, 79, of Port Orchard died May 4, 2000, at her home.
She was born July 20, 1920, in San Francisco to John Casperson and Mildred (Zelms) Ulving. She was raised in San Francisco.
She married
George Lambert on Feb. 12, 1938, in California.
Mrs. Lambert worked as an artist, specializing in handcrafted natural shell art. She was a member of Eastern Star.
She is survived by a son, James of Port Orchard; a brother, Jack Ulving of Corning, Calif.; two grandchildren, Donna Scott of Burley and Michael Lambert of Sunnyslope; and two great-grandchildren.
No services will be held.

Barbara Frederick
Barbara Allen Frederick, 55, of Bremerton died May 5, 2000, at Harrison Hospital from complications of liver disease.
She was born Aug. 9, 1944, in Richmond, Va. She graduated from Aiken High School.
She married
Grant Frederick in Aiken, S.C.
He preceded her in death in 1989.
She was a member of the Word of Life Fellowship Church.
She is survived by two sons, David of Bremerton and Chris of Big Cabin, Okla.; a daughter, Angela Frederick of San Diego; two sisters, Linda and Darlene of North Carolina; and eight grandchildren, Noel, Marcel, Tiffany, Chris, Sarah, Steven, Anthony and Michael.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Abundant Life Foursquare Church.

Ted Asleson
Ted I.W. Asleson, 86, of Bremerton died May 1, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Aug. 6, 1913, in Saskatchewan, Canada, to Gust and Inez (Galloway) Asleson. He lived in Canada until the age of 14, when he moved to Tacoma and later to Keyport. He graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1931.
He married
Bernetta Decker on Aug. 27, 1938, in Olympia.
Mr. Asleson worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard from 1941 to 1971, retiring as a rigger.
He had been a Mason and a Cub Scout leader.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ron and Dennis Asleson, both of Bremerton; one daughter, Nancy Stafford-Holter of Puyallup; one sister, Georgia Asleson of Bremerton; and eight grandchildren, Kimberly Gaunce, Teresa Bowes, Robert and Christopher Asleson, and Mark, Jeffrey, Melissa and Amanda Stafford; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service is planned for 2 p.m. today at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Fred Harvill
Fred A. Harvill, 71, of Bremerton died May 1, 2000, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation of Oyster Bay from complications of Alzheimer's disease.
He was born May 19, 1928, in Mitchell, S.D., to Audie and Florence (Sampson) Harvill. He grew up in Sparta, Mo.
He married
Mary Firebaugh on Dec. 15, 1948, in Oakland, Calif. They were divorced in 1995.
Mr. Harvill served in the Navy from 1950 to 1952.
He worked as a dairy quality hay farmer in Othello for 18 years, retiring in 1995. Previously, he was a welder at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and an iron worker in Chicago with Local 101, and he had designed and manufactured farming equipment in Prosser.
Mr. Harvill was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his former wife, now of Burbank, Wash.; three sons, Robert Harvill of Waullu, Wash., and Leroy and Duane Harvill, both of Burbank; one daughter, Glynda Yeah of Newport, Wash.; four sisters, Ruth Cummings of Bremerton, Anna Louise Masterson of Monticello, Fla., Linda Tremel of Tallahassee, Fla., and Mary Frances Reyna of Orville, Calif.; one brother, Audie Harvill Jr. of Prosser; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lela Atkins of Bremerton.
A graveside service is planned for 1:30 p.m. Monday at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Naomi Olney
Naomi Isabell Olney, 79, of Silverdale died May 4, 2000, in Silverdale.
She was born May 22, 1920, in Turlock, Calif., to James Monroe and Naomi May (Miranda) Gow. She grew up in Turlock, attending Turlock High School.
She married
James V. Olney in Warrenton, Ore., on May 7, 1959.
Mrs. Olney was a homemaker. She was active in the Francis Morgan Guild and attended Chico Alliance Church.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1992. Survivors include two sons, Frank Fitzsimmons of Everett and Theodore Olney of Seaside, Ore.; one daughter, Shirlee Mattila of Silverdale; two sisters, Kathleen Black of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Betty Beyers of Jerome, Idaho; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Balcom of Minnesota, William Mattila of Whidbey Island, Rebecca Mattila of Seattle, Julie Fitzsimmons of Port Orchard, Frank Fitzsimmons III of Everett, Cassandra Blankenship of Nevada, and Jason Olney of Hawaii; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at 11 a.m. at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park and by a memorial service at noon at Chico Alliance Church.

James Hussey
James Gridley Hussey, 80, of Bremerton died May 2, 2000, at Providence Hospital in Everett of heart failure.
He was born July 22, 1919, in Port Orchard, to John and Violet (Gridley) Hussey. He grew up in Bremerton, graduating from Bremerton High School in 1937.
He married
Edna Tobias in New York City in 1945.
Mr. Hussey served in the Navy from 1942 to 1945. He was a first-class gunner's mate aboard a PT boat in the South Pacific during World War II, earning the Bronze Star.
He worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 28 years, retiring in 1978. Previously, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1937, worked as a logger for five years following his naval service and began his career at PSNS by entering the shipfitter apprentice program in 1950.
Mr. Hussey was inducted into the Hall of Fame with Kitsap Oldtimers Association in 1999, in recognition of his accomplishments as a softball slowpitch pitcher. He was a member of The PT Boat Association, the National Rifle Association and the Washington State Old Time Fiddlers.
His wife preceded him in death in 1999. Survivors include one son, James Hussey of Everett; three daughters, Patricia Bostrom of Seabeck, Marge Cox of Bremerton and Karen Wachter of Snohomish; two brothers, Jess Hussey of Ketchikan, Alaska, and Tom Hussey of Tillamook, Ore.; seven grandchildren, Warren Cox and Jenny Peterson, both of Bremerton, Lynette Bedford of Lake Tahoe, Calif., Kristina Bostrom of Seabeck and Kelli, Bradley and Alex Wachter, all of Snohomish; and two great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jack Hussey.
Inurnment will take place at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park.
