Irene Kimble
Irene J. Kimble, 85, of Manchester died May 3, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born April 24, 1915, in Bellingham, to Ray and Eunice (Neeley) Bell. She grew up in South Colby, attending South Kitsap High School.
She married
John Kimble in Port Orchard on Dec. 31, 1935.
Mrs. Kimble was a homemaker. She also worked for 25 years as a charge nurse at the Washington Veterans Home in Retsil from the 1950s to the 1970s.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Jack Kimble of Auburn and David Kimble of Vernon, British Columbia; one daughter, Virginia Whalen-Johnson of Port Orchard; three brothers, Larry Bell of Auburn, Donald Bell of Port Orchard and Edward Bell of Spokane; one sister, Frances Loch of Port Orchard; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Friday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel, with inurnment following at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.
Michael Zimmermann
Michael Cresap Zimmermann, 74, of Manchester died May 3, 2000, at his home.
He was born Jan. 23, 1926, in Charlottesville, Va., to Howard D. and Margaret (McGinnis) Carpenter. He grew up in Rye and Canton, N.Y. He attended Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., from 1944 to 1946, graduating from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., in 1948 with a degree in electrical engineering.
Mr. Zimmermann served in the Navy from 1943 to 1948 as an engineering officer aboard a mine sweeper in the Pacific Theater (Japan). He saw duty in Tokyo Bay immediately following the signing of the peace treaty that ended World War II.
He and his wife, Stella, were married
in July 1965 in New York City.
He worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 10 years, retiring in 1994 as a senior nuclear engineer. Previously, he worked as a geological surveyor from 1949 to 1954; with Caltex Oil Co. in Indonesia and Libya for 13 years (1955 to 1968); as plant manager for Alyeska Pipeline in Fairbanks, Alaska; and as senior plant engineer with the Nigerian National Petroleum Co. in Africa.
Mr. Zimmermann was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Port Angeles and Bremerton, the Olympic Philatelic Society, the Cresap Society and the Port Orchard Medical Center Council. He also served as secretary and a board member of the Senior Caucus, Group Health Cooperative in Washington state.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Samantha Carpenter of San Francisco; and one sister, Peggy Staples of Buffalo, N.Y.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Dorothy Kolden
Dorothy Edna Kolden, 83, of Brownsville died May 2, 2000, at Northwoods Lodge from complications of a long illness.
She was born Nov. 16, 1916, in Dawson County, Mont., to Herbert and Barbara Youderian. She was raised and educated in western Wisconsin.
She married
Orval Kolden shortly after graduating from high school.
The Koldens moved to Poulsbo during World War II. Both worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and returned to Wisconsin after the war. They returned to the Northwest in 1950 and worked at PSNS. Mrs. Kolden retired from in 1972.
After her retirement from PSNS, Mrs. Kolden worked at several temporary jobs, then began a career with the Kitsap Community Action Program. She retired again in 1986.
She was a member of the Grange, Royal Neighbors of America and a local garden club.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Bill Kolden of Lynnwood and Mike Kolden of Brownsville; two daughters, Judy DeFlyer of Elma and Karen Kolden of Brownsville; two sisters, Edith Anderson of Edmonds and Jeanne Hammer of Osseo, Wis.; one brother, John Youderian of Osseo; and many grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Dan.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Monday at Lewis Funeral Chapel, with inurnment at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Jerry Darling
Jerome "Jerry" Darling, 79, of Port Orchard died May 2, 2000, in Bremerton of natural causes.
He was born Jan. 15, 1921, in Brookfield, Mo., to Sanford and Stella (Blakeley) Darling. He grew up in Kansas City, Mo.
He married
Valeria Belle Mawhiney in 1939, in Brookfield. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1982.
Mr. Darling served in the Navy from 1944 to 1945. He was a seaman first class, stationed in Guam during World War II.
He was a machinist at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1970. He had previously worked on the Grand Coulee Dam project as a machinist.
Survivors include two sons, Errol of Bremerton and Ron of Arizona; one daughter, Linda Bigovich Green of Spokane; three brothers, Cyrus of Allyn, Harold of Yuma, Ariz., and Gale of Kansas City; one sister, Ruth Keisler of South Carolina; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Monaghan, in 1998.
At his request, no services are scheduled. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Lola Graffe Eagle
Lola M. Graffe Eagle, 76, of Bremerton died May 3, 2000, at Harrison Hospital of natural causes.
She was born Feb. 17, 1924, in Buffalo, Mont., to Joseph and Vera (Kessel) Avery. She grew up in Shelton.
She married
William Graffe on May 15, 1940, in Shelton. He preceded her in death in 1986.
She married
Gerald L. Eagle on Jan. 6, 1995 in Bremerton.
She was head cook and nutritionist at Horton Nursing Home in Bremerton and later at Belmont Terrace. She retired in 1973, after 20 years.
She was a member of the Christian Life Center in Port Orchard and was a member of the Prime Timers.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Alice Lyman of Bremerton; three stepdaughters, Jenny Cordiner of Astoria, Ore., Susan Johnson of Torance, Calif., and Julie Crieghton of La Mirada, Calif.; one stepson, John Eagle La Marsh of Shelton; three sisters, Betty Crickmer of Bremerton, Josephine Trotter of Grandbury, Texas, and Jeanette Cox of Baker City, Ore.; three brothers, Lee Avery of Elma, Lawrence Avery of Cosmopolis, Wash. and Sam Avery of Yakima; and six stepgrandchildren.
A graveside service is planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Forest Lawn cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 12:30 p.m. at the Christian Life Center. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Dorothy Young
Dorothy A. Young, 95, of Bainbridge Island died May 3, 2000 on Bainbridge Island of natural causes.
She was born April 5, 1905, in Mount Vernon to Charles and Elizabeth (Muth) Dwelley. She grew up in Mount Vernon and Anacortes, graduating from Anacortes High School in 1924, and from Bellingham Business College in 1926.
She married
Paul B. Humphrey on Nov. 24, 1926, in Seattle. He preceded her in death.
She married
Walter "Joe" Young on Sept. 24, 1987, in Port Orchard. Her husband preceded her in death in 1989.
Mrs. Young was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Jim Humphrey of North Bend, Ore., and Dan Humphrey of Seattle; two daughters, Doris Pollack of Concrete, and Caroline White of Ollala; 14 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
A gathering in her honor is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at Illahee State Park, with inurnment at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Charles Myers
Charles D. Myers, 73, of Bremerton died May 3, 2000, in Bremerton.
He was born April 25, 1927, in Sedro Woolley.
He married
Kim Yai Soon on May 5, 1955, in Seoul, Korea.
Mr. Myers was retired from the Navy.
He was a member of American Legion Post 239, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the National Rifle Association and the Fleet Reserve Association.
He is survived by his wife.

Ted Asleson
Ted I.W. Asleson, 86, of Bremerton died May 1, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Aug. 6, 1913, in Saskatchewan, Canada, to Gust and Inez (Galloway) Asleson. He lived in Canada until the age of 14 when he moved to Tacoma and later to Keyport. He graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1931.
He married
Bernetta Decker on Aug. 27, 1938, in Olympia.
Mr. Asleson worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard from 1941 to 1971, retiring as a rigger.
He had been a Mason and a Cub Scout leader.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ron and Dennis, both of Bremerton; one daughter, Nancy Stafford-Holter of Puyallup; one sister, Georgia Asleson of Bremerton; and eight grandchildren, Kimberly Gaunce, Teresa Bowes, Robert and Christopher Asleson, and Mark, Jeffrey, Melissa and Amanda Stafford.
A graveside service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Alton Otis Sr.
Alton Benjamin Otis Sr., 90, of Silverdale died April 30, 2000, in Silverdale.
He was born Dec. 11, 1909, in Killingly, Conn., to Clark Harrison and Orcilla Maude (Withington) Otis. He attended high school in Boston, graduating from Braintree High School. He graduated from Boston University in 1940.
He married
Helen Leona Britton on Oct. 7, 1940.
Mr. Otis was the branch manager of State Street Bank in Boston for more than 35 years.
He served on the board of directors of the YMCA in Brighton, Mass., and was a deacon at a church there.
Survivors include his wife; and one son, Alton Jr. of Port Townsend.
A memorial service is planned for 3:30 p.m. May 11 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Bremerton. Arrangements are by Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Doris Tibbs Furcron
Doris Evelyn Tibbs Furcron, 91, of Poulsbo died April 29, 2000, at Belmont Terrace.
She was born Dec. 5, 1908, in Great Falls, S.C., to Harry and Mattie (Holt) Tibbs. She grew up in South Carolina, graduating from Longstreet Baptist Academy near Walhalla, S.C., and receiving her nursing degree from St. Peter's Hospital in Charlotte, N.C.
She was a nurse for many years.
Survivors include her husband, Henry "Jack" Furcron; one daughter, Harriet Thul of Poulsbo; two sisters, Bessie Bradley and Helen Howe, both of Mount Airy, N.C.; one brother, Herbert Tibbs of Great Falls, S.C.; and four grandchildren, Barbara Tone, Christopher Davin and Charlotte and Kira Crissy.
A graveside service is planned for 3 p.m. Saturday at Evergreen cemetery in Chester, S.C. Local arrangements are by Lewis Funeral Chapel.
