Dick Finney
Dick C. Finney, 83, a resident of the Washington Veteran's Home in Retsil, died May 2, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Aug. 6, 1916, in Denver, Colo., to Charles C. and Daisey Finney. He was raised and educated in Everett.
Mr. Finney served in the Army during World War II, seeing action in Italy.
He was a welder for many years for the Arkla Company in Indiana, retiring in 1980. He had lived in Kitsap County since 1996.
Mr. Finney was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a past president of CIVITAN in Kentucky and had been a lieutenant in the Indiana Civil Air Patrol.
He is survived by a sister-in-law, Louise Finney of Silverdale.
A memorial service will be held at a later date, with inurnment in Indiana. Cremation arrangements are by Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Peggy Hooper
Peggy Lee Hooper, 72, of Bremerton died April 30, 2000, in Bremerton.
She was born April 21, 1928, in Walla Walla to Roy and Hazel Mae Bumcrott Smith. She was raised and educated in Walla Walla.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Smithart of Detroit and Lorne Smithart of Portsmouth, Va.; three daughters, Billie Dopke of Bremerton, Karen Warren of Shelton and Debra Rogers of Port Orchard; two sisters, Betty Campana and Mary Izzo, both of Bremerton; one brother, Roland Smith of Milton; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Wise, in 1992 and by a brother, Roy Smith, in 1990.
No services are planned. Arrangements are by Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Florian Schooley
Former Bremerton resident Florian Steven Schooley, 84, of North Pole, Alaska, died April 26, 2000, in Yuma, Ariz., of a stroke.
He was born Nov. 2, 1915, in San Antonio to William E. and Leona (Cuny) Schooley. He grew up in San Antonio, graduating from San Antonio High School in 1934.
He married
Irma J. Giaudrone on Dec. 24, 1939, in San Antonio. She preceded him in death in 1980.
Mr. Schooley served in the Navy from 1934 until his retirement in 1956, as a chief machinist's mate. He was stationed in the South Pacific during World War II and later participated in the Korean War. He received numerous medals and awards.
He later worked at the wastewater treatment plant in Bremerton for 20 years, retiring in 1977.
Mr. Schooley was a Mason and a member of the Elks, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the National Rifle Association and the Fleet Reserve Association.
Survivors include two sons, George of North Pole and Richard of Bremerton; one brother, J. Marvin of San Francisco; six grandchildren, Patricia and Elisabeth, both of Poulsbo, LeAnna of Denver, Robert of Shelton, Shelly of Lincolnheath, England, and Chris of Spencerville, Ohio; and 19 great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Luther and Richard.
A graveside service is planed for 2 p.m. May 15 at Laurel Hill cemetery in Cle Elum. Arrangements are by Cascade Funeral Home in Cle Elum.

Ethel Herbrandson
Ethel Rachel Herbrandson, 81, of Silverdale died April 14, 2000, at Northwoods Lodge of liver cancer.
She was born Dec. 28, 1918, in Pueblo, Colo., to John B. and Margaret P. (Bonavish) Greening. She grew up in Pueblo, graduating from Pueblo High School in 1936.
She married
John D. Herbrandson on Jan. 19, 1958, in Ephrata.
She worked with the Head Start Program in King County for 20 years, retiring in 1987.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Homer Brooks of Mesa, Ariz., and Stephen Brooks of Youngtown, Ariz.
A memorial service was held April 16 at St. Bede's Episcopal Church in Port Orchard.

Barbara McAtee
Barbara Jo Ann McAtee, 50, of Bremerton died
April 18, 2000, at Harrison Hospital of pulmonary arrest.
She was born Oct. 25, 1949, in Oakland, Calif., to Lester and Ella Mae (Porter) Triplett. She grew up in Oakland.
She was a member of Olympic View Assembly of God in Silverdale.
Survivors include two sons, William Cisneros of Needles, Calif., and Ernesto Avelar of Hoquiam; two daughters, Sherry Newman of Fremont, Calif., and Clarissa McAtee of Bremerton; one brother, Robert Triplett of San Lorenzo, Calif.; and six sisters, Darlene McCarty of Palm Harbor, Fla., Donna Dulskie of Boston, Linda Runyon of San Leandro, Calif., Kathleen Raines of Suisun City, Calif., Cheryl Thogmartin of Spickard, Mo., and Kelly Hockanson of Fairfax, Va.; and four grandchildren.
A private viewing was held April 21 at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel. Cremation was under the direction of Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo.

Claire Wilson Bratonia
Claire Wilson Bratonia, 78, of Silverdale died May 1, 2000, in Silverdale.
She was born Jan. 29, 1922, in Seattle to Hewitt and Chelsea (Carter) Wilson. She grew up in Seattle and in Norris, Tenn., graduating from Norris High School in 1940. She graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., in 1942, attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma in 1960.
She married
Frank W. Bratonia on Dec. 29, 1945, in Seattle. He preceded her in death in 1999.
She was a teacher in the Bremerton School District for 20 years, retiring in 1979.
She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa for 30 years.
Survivors include one son, Mark of Sequim; one daughter, Shelley of Fairview, Ore.; and four grandchildren, Brian, Aaron, Adam and Lindsey, all of Sequim.
Inurnment will take place at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Kitsap County.
Dorothy Phalen
Dorothy I. Phalen, 85, of Bremerton died May 1, 2000, in Bremerton of natural causes.
She was born May 22, 1914, in Seattle to William and Ethel (Morris) Sidam. She grew up in Bremerton, graduating from Bremerton High School.
She was a supply clerk at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. She was retired.
Survivors include one son, Richard of Seattle; one daughter, Patty Pieper of Olathe, Kan.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
At her request, no services will be held. Inurnment will take place at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Dolores Torres Flores
Dolores Torres Flores, 70, of Port Orchard died May 1, 2000, in Tacoma.
She was born Jan. 2, 1930, in Tamuning, Guam, to Jose and Isabelle (Agoun) Torres. She grew up in Yona, Guam.
She married
Benjamin G. Flores in February 1962.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Joe Flores of Port Orchard; four stepsons, Clifton, Tom, Robert and Arthur Flores; two sisters, Victoria Quenga and Elizabeth Tenorio, both of Guam; two brothers, Ben Torres of Florida and Jose Torres of Port Orchard; and one grandchild, Jaimie Flores of Olalla. She was preceded in death by a brother, Joaquin Torres.
A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, also at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. Evening rosaries will be held at Mrs. Flores' home with the exception of Thursday. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home, with interment following.
Mamie Allen Deiter
Mamie Shannon Allen Deiter, 85, of Poulsbo died April 26, 2000, in Bremerton.
She was born Jan. 18, 1915, in Nashville, Tenn., to Herbert Rayburn and Jesse Lovinia Brandon. She grew up in Nashville, attending Central High School and Mims Business School.
She worked at Forest Lawn cemetery in Glendale, Calif., for more than 25 years as a salesperson.
Survivors include three sons, Wayne Allen of Poulsbo, James Allen of Mascot, Tenn., and Richard Allen of Glendale; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation is planned for Saturday at Forest Lawn cemetery in Glendale, with interment following. Arrangements are by Forest Lawn cemetery and Funeral Home in Glendale and by Lewis Funeral Chapel in Bremerton.
Charlie Bell
Charles J. "Charlie" Bell, 65, of Port Orchard died April 28, 2000, at his home following a long battle with cancer.
He was born March 9, 1935, in Clarion, Iowa, to John and Laura (Brooks) Bell. He was raised in Clarion, where he graduated from high school in 1954.
He married
Dorothy Simon on Sept. 26, 1959, in Bremerton.
Mr. Bell served in the Navy.
He had worked as a machinist and plannerman in Shop 31 at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1990.
Mr. Bell was active in wrestling programs in South Kitsap, had been assistant wrestling coach at North Kitsap High School and served as head wrestling coach at Kingston Junior High School until his illness forced him to retire.
Survivors include his wife; his stepmother, Rose Bell of Clarion; one son, Gary of Port Orchard; three daughters, Laura Olson of Silverdale and Kathy Bell and Sandy Griffin, both of Port Orchard; two sisters, Connie Anderson of Clarion and Kay Wilimek of Des Moines, Iowa; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. today at Christ the Rock Community Church in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel with cremation at Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo and inurnment at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Helen Young
Helen Kathrine Young, 68, of Port Orchard died May 1, 2000, at her home of natural causes.
She was born July 9, 1931, in Ardmore, Okla., to Luther and Hettie (Hawkins) Thomison. She grew up in Oklahoma.
She married
Henry Joe Young on May 21, 1946, in Gainesville, Texas.
Mrs. Young was a homemaker and a bookkeeper for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Phoenix.
She was a member of the Family Worship Center in Port Orchard.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Terry of Modesto, Calif.; four daughters, Carol Ingle and Deana Lewis, both of Port Orchard, Darla McKee of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Jo Kathrine Pennington of Goodyear, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A graveside service is planned for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Moises Gallegos
Moises Gallegos, 90, of Bremerton died April 28, 2000, in Bremerton of natural causes.
He was born Dec. 7, 1909, in Arboles, Colo., to Juan and Marieta (Candalaria) Gallegos. He grew up in Allison, Colo.
He married
Margaret Montoya on Nov. 13, 1935, in Monero, N.M.
Mr. Gallegos was an ordnance worker at the Naval Ammunition Depot in Hawthorne, Nev., for 20 years, retiring in 1972. He lived in Hawthorne until 1992, and in Bloomfield, N.M., from 1992 until January when he moved to Bremerton.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bloomfield and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Hawthorne.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, John of Provo, Utah, and Ed of Port Orchard; one sister, Lillie Lucero of Santa Fe, N.M.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Teddy, in 1957.
Visitation is scheduled for 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bremerton, followed by a funeral Mass at 1:30 p.m. and a graveside service at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
