Oda Beard
Oda Leota Beard, 97, of Belfair died April 5, 2000, in Tacoma.
She was born March 31, 1903, in Meeker, Okla., to William Price Ballard and Jessie Maud (Haun) Ballard.
She married
Elmer Beard in 1948, in Ellensburg. He preceded her in death in 1984.
Mrs. Beard was a beautician and homemaker.
Survivors include two sisters, Eida Clark of Normandy Park and Marie Denchel of Prosser; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Belfair Community Baptist Church, with burial following at Twin Firs cemetery in Belfair.
Roger Silkett
Roger E. Silkett, 66, of Bremerton died April 6, 2000, in Bremerton of natural causes.
He was born Dec. 2, 1933, in Ontario, Ore. He grew up in Oregon.
He married
Lillian Silkett on July 30, 1988, in Bremerton.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Steven of Oregon and Sheldon and Randy, both of Bremerton; two daughters, Marcella Ridge of Belfair and Carolyn Kent of Quilcene; one step-daughter, Shirley Forgey of Bremerton; one brother, Elmer of Renton; one sister, Loretta Minniear of Puyallup; numerous grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Roger Jr.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Perry Avenue, with a memorial service to follow at 1 p.m. Arrangements are by Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made in the name of Lillian Silkett at Washington Mutual Bank on Wheaton Way in Bremerton.
Dorothy Justesen
Dorothy Shirley Justesen, 85, of Bremerton died April 6, 2000, at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation Center of Oyster Bay in Bremerton of congestive heart failure.
She was born Jan. 29, 1915, in Minneapolis to Edward and Lena (Toberer) Ostlind. She grew up in Portland, Ore., graduating from Grant High School there and from Olympic College.
She served in the Marine Corps from 1942 to 1945, achieving the rank of staff sergeant. She was stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
She married
Emanuel Justesen on Oct. 20, 1951, in Portland. He preceded her in death in 1983.
Mrs. Justesen was a homemaker. She had worked for Bremers Department Store as a bookkeeper and with General Mills in Portland for a short time.
She was a member of the Women Marines Association and the Swedish Club in Seattle. She also was a volunteer with the American Cancer Society.
She is survived by a brother, Edward Ostlind Jr. of Portland. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ethel Ferguson, in 1995.
At her request, there will be no services. Arrangements are by Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Ellen Rhinehart
Ellen Ada Rhinehart, 69, of Bremerton died April 8, 2000, in Bremerton.
She was born Sept. 28, 1930, in Phoenix to Idus John Henry Gilbert and Lillian (Christian) Gilbert. She graduated from Carver High School in Phoenix in 1948.
She married
Billy Rhinehart in June of 1966 in Reno, Nev.
Mrs. Rhinehart was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Nolan Robertson of Buckeye, Ariz., and Emil Robertson and Pierre Rhinehart, both of Bremerton; two daughters, Denise Williams and Feoria Rhinehart, both of Bremerton; two sisters, Rosalee Owens of Phoenix and Tanya Hemphill of Los Angeles; one brother, Archie Gilbert of Wilberton, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, also at Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Bill Schlichter
Former Port Orchard resident, William "Bill" M. Schlichter, 53, died of heart failure April 5, 2000, at his home in Olympia.
He was born Sept. 14, 1946, in Wichita, Kan., to William and Marjorie (Porter) Schlichter.
On Oct. 30, 1990, he married
Katherine Kuriyama.
Mr. Schlichter served in the Air Force in the late 1960s.
Survivors include his mother, Marjorie Schlichter of Puyallup; his wife; four sons, Jaime Kuriyama of Olympia, Bill Schlichter of Kuna, Idaho, Tad Kendrick of Texas, and Tak Kendrick of Poulsbo; a daughter, Danyale Edgar of Auburn; two sisters, Roseanne King of Kent and Sonia Davis of Cashmere; and one grandchild, Blake Edgar.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Mills and Mills Funeral Directors in Olympia.
Gary Powers
Former Port Orchard resident Gary C. Powers, 57, died April 4, 2000, at his home in Mason Lake.
He was born Jan. 6, 1943, in Bremerton to Paul and Beatrice (Nelson) Powers. He was raised in Port Orchard, graduating from South Kitsap High School in 1961, and from Olympic Junior College in 1965.
On March 29, 1980, he married
Carolyn Kunzl in Port Orchard.
Mr. Powers worked as a nuclear inspector at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 30 years, retiring in 1995. He spent the last four years as a computer consultant for Anteon Corporation.
He was a member of the Elim Lutheran Church, the Gold Mountain Men's Club, the Bremerton Elks, Promise Keepers and Howard's Golf Association.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Mike of Port Orchard, Frank Johnson of Boise, Idaho, Greg Johnson of Port Orchard and Carl Johnson of Poulsbo; a daughter, Kim Clemons of Chimacum; a sister, Virginia Lawrence of Abbotsford, British Columbia; and eight grandchildren, Tom and Michelle Brooke, Desiree and Paul Cole, and Charlie, Sam, Gabriel and Evan Johnson.
Visitation will be from noon to 3 p.m. today at Rill Chapel. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Elim Lutheran Church in Port Orchard. Inurnment will be at Sunset Lane cemetery at 1 p.m. Monday.

Sister Amanda Contris
Sister Amanda Contris, OP, 87, died April 6, 2000, in Seattle.
She was born Nov. 14, 1912, in Aberdeen.
Sister Amanda graduated with a B.A. in education, was an elementary school teacher for 60 years and a principal for six years. She taught at Our Lady Star of the Sea from 1967 to 1994.
She is survived by two sisters, Sister Teresina Contris, OSF and Sister Josephine Contris, OSF; and her Dominican Sisters of Edmonds.
A Christian wake service will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, followed by the Mass of Resurrection at 7 p.m., both at the Chapel at Providence Mount Saint Vincent, 4831 35th Ave. SW, Seattle. Interment
will be at Calvary cemetery in Seattle.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hoffner, Fisher & Harvey of Seattle.

Edward Meyers
Edward James Meyers, 95, of Bremerton died April 7, 2000.
He was born Dec. 12, 1904 in Lake Stevens to James Meyers and Annie (Nilson) Meyers. He attended Lake Stevens High School and then Washington State College in Pullman.
Meyers was a dairy farmer for more than 20 years. He then became a real estate agent for Werner Real Estate. He also was a charter member of the Lake City Lions and a member of the Lake Stevens Lions.
Ruth Meyers, his wife of 53 years, preceded him in death in 1982.
He is survived by a daughter, Margery Scholfield of Bremerton; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
There will be no services. Interment
will be at Evergreen cemetery in Everett.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

LaMay Chandler
LaMay Chandler, 74, of Port Orchard died April 7, 2000, in her home.
She was born in Epping, N.D., to Ed Willie and Julie Amanda (Forde) Loe. She graduated from high school in Pekin, N.D., and then from the Deaconess Hospital Registered Nurse Program in Grand Forks, N.D.
Chandler was a homemaker.
She was a Contract Bridge League Life Master and was active in Sons of Norway, Bethany Lutheran Church, Gold Mountain and Village Greens Golf Clubs and the Elks Club.
Survivors include Melvin Chandler, her husband of 52 years; a son, Jon of Bainbridge Island; a daughter, Joan Chandler Nanna of Marina Del Ray, Calif.; and three sisters, Helen Van Krevelen of Minneapolis, Edna Ensrud of McVille, N.D., and Viola Skjelset of Missoula, Mont.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday at Miller-Woodlawn Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Charles Barrett
Charles Richard Barrett, 52, a longtime Port Orchard resident, died April 4, 2000.
He was born May 29, 1947, in Bellingham.
Mr. Barrett served in the Army. He retired from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a carpenter.
Survivors include his fiance, Diana Brownrigg; three daughters, Jeanette, Margaret and Alysann, all of Port Orchard; his father, Edward Barrett Sr. of Tacoma; two brothers, Edward Jr. of Silver Lake and Bruce of Graham; and one grandchild.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. April 11 at the Haven of Rest Chapel, Gig Harbor.

'Cactus' Warren
Wilbert J. "Cactus" Warren, 80, of Bremerton died April 5, 2000, at Bremerton Convalescent Center.
He was born Feb. 6, 1920, in Castle Rock to Fred and Ella (Gustafson) Warren. He was raised and educated in Castle Rock.
On Jan. 6, 1942, he married
Helen Danielson in Reno, Nev.
Mr. Warren served in the Navy from 1930 to 1947. He served on USS Tennessee and many other ships, traveling to Murmask, Russia, twice as an armed guard in charge of liberty ships. He retired as a chief boatswain's mate. Following the war, he worked in Shop 7 at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard until an injury forced him to retire in 1974.
He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion, the Shipyard Retirees and the Poggie Club.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Jonnie Marsh of Bremerton, Kelly Perryman of Bellevue, Jo Ridlon of Gig Harbor and Helen Cunningham of San Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Lois Campbell and Millie Kruse, both of Castle Rock; two brothers, Willard of Boring, Ore., and Everett of Grants Pass, Ore.; six grandchildren, Cheryl Fairclothe, Patrish Ortler, Patrick and Chelsey Ortler, Mark Cunningham and Trevis Thomas; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. April 10 at Forest Lawn cemetery.
