'Mike' Greenwood
Carver "Mike" Sutherland Greenwood, 77, of Silverdale died April 2, 2000.
He was born Oct. 25, 1922, in Boston, Mass., to Clarence and Sigrid (Johansson) Greenwood.
Mr. Greenwood served in the Army during World War II in the Philippines. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, the American Theater Service Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal with one Bronze Star. He worked as an explosives engineer, working predominantly at Fort Lewis for more than 20 years.
Survivors include two sons, Gilbert of Lake Cushman and Ed of Bremerton; a daughter, Nancy of Tacoma; and a sister, Rhoda of Oakland, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma, in 1988.
No services will be conducted.

Juan Charfauros
Juan Carbullido Charfauros, 49, of Port Orchard died April 4, 2000, in Seattle.
He was born Jan. 14, 1951, in Agat, Guam, to Manuel and Maria (Carbullido) Charfauros. He was raised and educated in San Diego, Calif.
On May 14, 1990, he married
Cecelia Champaco.
Mr. Charfauros served in the Navy from 1969 to 1974. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Ribbon. Most recently, he worked as a grade one manager at the Washington State Veterans Home at Retsil for 15 years, retiring in 1989.
Survivors include his wife; his daughter, Elizabeth of Port Orchard; three brothers, Jesus of National City, Calif., Franky of Chula Vista, Calif., and Ben of Spanaway; and three sisters, Maria Atalig of National City, Trinidad Perona of Tacoma and Alfonsina of National City.
Rosary recitation will be at 8 p.m. today and April 9 and 10 at St. Gabriel Church in Port Orchard. Vigil with Rosary will be from 6 to 9 p.m. April 11 at Rill Chapel. Funeral Mass will be at noon April 12 at St. Gabriel Church. Interment
will be at Sunset Lane cemetery following Mass.

Gary Powers
Former Port Orchard resident Gary C. Powers, 57, died April 4, 2000, at his home at Mason Lake.
He was born Jan. 6, 1943, in Bremerton to Paul and Beatrice (Nelson) Powers. He was raised in Port Orchard, graduating from South Kitsap High School in 1961 and from Olympic Junior College in 1965.
On March 29, 1980, he married
Carolyn Kunzl in Port Orchard.
Mr. Powers worked as a nuclear inspector at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 30 years, retiring in 1995. He spent the last four years as a computer consultant for Anteon Corporation.
He was a member of Elim Lutheran Church, the Gold Mountain Men's Club, Bremerton Elks, Promise Keepers and Howard's Golf Association.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Mike of Port Orchard, Frank Johnson of Boise, Idaho, Greg Johnson of Port Orchard and Carl Johnson of Poulsbo; a daughter, Kim Clemons of Chimacum; a sister, Virginia Lawrence of Abbotsford, British Columbia; and eight grandchildren, Tom and Michelle Brooke, Desiree and Paul Cole, and Charlie, Sam, Gabriel and Evan Johnson.
Visitation will be from noon to 3 p.m. April 9 at Rill Chapel. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. April 10 at Elim Lutheran Church in Port Orchard. Inurnment will be at Sunset Lane cemetery.

'Sally' Harper
Freida May "Sally" Harper, 91, of Olalla died of natural causes April 6, 2000, in Gig Harbor.
She was born May 12, 1908, in Mount Lake, Minn. She was raised in Idaho and California, graduating from Bakersfield High School.
Mrs. Harper was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Long Lake Garden Club, the Navy Relief Auxiliary, the Retired Navy Wives Auxiliary and Olalla Bible Church.
Survivors include three sons, William Bates of Ontario, Calif., Richard of Bremerton and Robert of Olalla; two daughters, Phyllis Spears of Vancouver, Wash., and Alice Schlenker of Lake Oswego, Ore., nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. April 10 at Sunset Lane cemetery.

Martha Bunting-Bartlett
Martha Edith Edna Bunting-Bartlett, 68, of Belfair died April 6, 2000, in Bremerton.
She was born Nov. 25, 1931, in Eugene, Ore., to Henry and Eleanor (Greyell) Bunting. She graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1949.
She worked as a Fuller Brush District representative for more than 20 years, and as a clerk at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for more than 10 years.
Survivors include two sons, Jack Jr. of St. Mary's, Ga., and Rick of Silverdale; two brothers, Dave of Bremerton and Daniel of Allyn; and four grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 11 at Lewis Chapel. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. April 12, also at Lewis Chapel.
Denny Denton
Denny J. Denton, 81, of Poulsbo died after suffering a stroke April 3, 2000, at Martha & Mary Health Center in Poulsbo.
He was born Oct. 5, 1918, in Bluffs, Ill., to Halpin and Willie Mae (Beagle) Denton. He was raised and educated in Dubuque, Ill., graduating from Dubuque High School in 1937, and attending Dubuque University.
On Feb. 25, 1944, he married
Bernice Criss in Seattle.
Mr. Denton served in the Coast Guard from 1939 to 1951. He was a chief radioman during the Korean War and World War II. He later worked for Packard Bell, RCA, ITT Mackay Marine and, most recently, as a station engineer for KBRO in Bremerton, retiring in 1981.
He was a member of the Washington State Horsemen and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Guy of Kodiak, Alaska; two daughters, Dianne Walker and Denise Zaske, both of Poulsbo; seven grandchildren, Jayna Zaske of New London, Conn., Sandra Zaske, Steven Battin and Michael Battin, all of Poulsbo and Kim, Jeff and Dana Denton, all of Kodiak, Alaska; and four great-grandchildren.
At Mr. Denton's request, there will be no services. A family gathering is planned for later this year.

Margaret Telford
Margaret C. Telford of Poulsbo died April 4, 2000, at Bremerton Convalescent Center.
She was born in Fargo, N.D., to Mortimer and Frances (Vrabel) Hurlbut. She was raised in Seattle, graduating from Ballard High School.
On Nov. 3, 1951, she married
Ernest "Bud" Telford in Bellevue.
Mrs. Telford was a public relations director for the Doric hotel chain, worked in the modeling and fashion design industry and as a radio and television personality in the 1950s. She developed the first Northwest food demonstration school and owned an employment service.
She was an established artist and an avid rose gardener, winning many awards for both endeavors.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Donald Martin of Port Orchard and Steve of Kirkland; a daughter, Nancy Williams of Puyallup; a brother, Fred Hurlbut of Florida; seven grandchildren, Donald, Richard, Vicki and Lisa Martin and Scott, Larisa and Steven Williams; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, both at The Stone Chapel in Poulsbo. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Charles Episcopal Church in Poulsbo. Interment
will be at Wenatchee cemetery.

Alfred Rostad
Alfred Bernhardt Rostad, 87, of Seabeck died March 25, 2000, at his home.
He was born Aug. 20, 1912, in Seattle to Christian and Marie (Forde) Rostad. He was raised and educated in the Silverdale area, graduating from high school in 1933.
On Feb. 14, 1939, he married
his high school sweetheart, Hazel Fay Hole. She preceded him in death in 1995.
Mr. Rostad took up electrical appliance repair before going to work for the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He also operated a small TV and radio repair business. In 1971, he retired from PSNS after 31 years of service as foreman of Shop 72. He retired from the TV and radio repair service in the late 1980s.
He was a 57-year member of the Aerie No. 192 Fraternal Order of Eagles of Bremerton.
Survivors include a daughter, Dianne Fay Keinholz of Seabeck; a brother, Louis; two grandchildren, Douglas J. Kienholz of Seabeck and Lori Fay Cassidy of Port Orchard; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Evergreen Lutheran Church, 3200 Seabeck-Holly Road, Seabeck.

George Campbell
George Gordon Campbell, 76, of Poulsbo died April 3, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Sept. 16, 1923, in Bremerton to Paul and Grace (Casady) Campbell. He was raised and educated in Bremerton, graduating from Bremerton High School in 1942. Following the war, he attended Olympic College and the University of Washington from 1958 to 1963, when he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering.
On Nov. 15, 1947, he married
Theda Brower in Bremerton.
Mr. Campbell served in the Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1947. He began working at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard while in high school and continued following the war. He retired in 1981 as a chief design engineer.
He was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Bridge Club and the Men's Club at Rolling Hills Golf Course.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Stephen of Poulsbo, Richard of Redmond and Dan of Port Orchard; four daughters, Carol Aiken of Bremerton, Patricia Howerton of Naselle, Joyce Stewart of Carnation and Marilyn Patterson of Port Angeles; two sisters, Peg Ott of Bellingham and Clare Clausen of Shoreline; three brothers, Harold of Seattle, William of Tacoma and Pete of Shoreline; 23 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A vigil will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 4215 Pine Road NE, Bremerton. Viewing will be at 10 a.m. Friday with a funeral liturgy to follow, also at Holy Trinity. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Diane Strange
Diane Strange, 52, of Bremerton died of cancer April 1, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Jan. 26, 1948, in Norfolk, Va., to Howard and Suzanne (Brink) Quistorf. She was raised and educated in Oak Harbor, graduating from high school in 1966.
On June 25, 1977, she married
Alan C. Strange in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
Mrs. Strange was a hairdresser and then worked for the Bremerton School District as a PARA educator until 1998.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Alan III and Jason, both of Bremerton; a sister, Laura Anderson of Indianapolis, Ind.; and two brothers, John and Michael Quistorf, both of Oak Harbor.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Gilberton Hall, 8050 Illahee Road NE, Bremerton.
