Arnie Hestnes
Eric A. "Arnie" Hestnes, 80, of Bainbridge Island died March 31, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Aug. 10, 1919, in Skagway, Alaska, to Edward and Gertrude (Munkvold) Hestnes. He was raised in Alaska and graduated from the University of Washington in 1948.
He and his wife, Johnnie, were married
Oct. 10, 1951, in Palmer, Alaska.
Mr. Hestnes served in the Army during World War II. He later worked as a civil engineer with the Alaska railroad, retiring in 1973 after 27 years. He helped with surveying the ALCAN Highway and designed the docking facility in Whittier, Alaska.
A resident of Bainbridge Island since 1973, Mr. Hestnes was a member of the Port Madison Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Eric of Anchorage, Alaska, and Carl of Talkeetna, Alaska; three daughters, Kristine and Jean, both of Anchorage, and Trina Jury of Bremerton; seven grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.
A family memorial service will be held at the Port Madison Lutheran Church. Inurnment will be in Alaska.
Arrangements are by The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove Memorial Park.

Jacqueline Williams
Jacqueline Maxine Williams, 85, of Bremerton died March 31, 2000, at her home.
She was born Dec. 1, 1914, in Singer, La., to George and Iva (Stanley) Ennis.
Mrs. Williams most recently worked for Barr's Apparel in Bremerton.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, Emil Williams of Bremerton; and her sister, Christina Hernisey of Middleton, Pa.
Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with a funeral Mass to follow.
Arrangements are by Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Terri Peichoto
Terri Margaret Peichoto, 38, of Port Orchard died April 2, 2000, in Tacoma.
She was born March 30, 1962, in Visalia, Calif., to George and Marge (Victorino) Peichoto. She was raised in Pleasanton, Calif., graduating from Foothill High School in 1980, and then from Olympic College in 1999.
Mrs. Peichoto worked as a nondestructive tester at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. She also owned and raced thoroughbred horses at Longacres for 10 years.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
Survivors include her father and stepmother, George and Barbara of Port Orchard; a daughter, Margaret Kidwell of Port Orchard; a brother, George of Spokane; two sisters, Tina of Burley and Marialice Nobles of Gig Harbor; and her grandmother, Lucy Victorino of Visalia, Calif.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday with a funeral service to follow, both at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Marvin Sponberg
Marvin L. Sponberg, 61, of Quilcene died March 1, 2000, at his home of malignant melanoma.
He was born April 8, 1938, in Tacoma to Einer and Katherine (Gleva) Sponberg. He grew up in Tacoma, graduating from Stadium High School in 1956.
He served in the Navy from 1956 to 1963.
Mr. Sponberg worked in heavy equipment and welding. He was employed primarily in Tacoma, retiring from Leander Research in Port Orchard in 1995.
He was a member of Local 612, the Elks in Tacoma and the Eagles in Tacoma.
He married
Janice J. Wilson on July 8, 1995, on Orcas Island.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Jennifer Bayeur of Gig Harbor; stepsons Bob Crawford of Seattle, Don Crawford of Lacey and Tom and David Crawford, both of Tacoma; one brother, Larry of Tacoma; two grandchildren, Jamie and Bryon Bayeur Jr. of Gig Harbor; and 11 step-grandchildren, Christopher Crawford of Tacoma, and Zack, Jessica, Krystle, Kyle, Zhara, Hannah, Lauren, Erica, Weston and Isabelle.
A celebration of life is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at Quilcene First Presbyterian Church.

Wilma Epoch
Wilma Elizabeth Epoch, 78, of East Wenatchee died March 29, 2000, at her home after an extended illness.
She was born May 8, 1921, to Frederich and Maria Dorotea (Keuntze) Steffens in Bremerhaven, Germany. She was raised and educated there.
Mrs. Epoch worked for the adjutant general's office as a secretary and interpreter. She met Wilbert M. Epoch when he was in the U.S. Navy, stationed in Bremerhaven. They were married
there on March 11, 1950.
They moved to Norfolk, Va., three months later, and lived in other parts of the world until moving to Bremerton in 1956. They lived in Poulsbo until moving to East Wenatchee in 1996.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, Gary of Waterville and Bill of East Wenatchee; four grandchildren, Jim, Alissa, Erica and Jennifer; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Stephanie.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Telford's Chapel of the Valley.

Elinor Green
Elinor G. Green, 73, of Bremerton died March 29, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Aug. 13, 1926, in Vancouver, British Columbia, to John and Bella MacDonald. She grew up in Vancouver, B.C.
She married
John W. Green on Sept. 15, 1951, in Ventura, Calif.
Mrs. Green was a homemaker. She was a member of the Sidney Art Gallery and the Bremerton Art Guild.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Sheryl Green of Seattle, Victoria Green of Suquamish and Valerie Olson of Bremerton; two brothers, Norman and Robert MacDonald, both of Vancouver, B.C.; and eight grandchildren, Andrea, Brent, Michelle, Shelly, Christopher, Laura, Brian and John; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Monday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home, with inurnment at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Janet Gidlof
Janet Carol Gidlof, 63, of Grapeview died March 29, 2000, at her home of cancer. She had been a resident of Grapeview since 1994.
She was born Aug. 12, 1936, in Los Angeles to George and Helen (Bryant) Wouwenaar. She grew up in Seattle, graduating from Roosevelt High School there in 1953.
She married
Lee Gidlof on May 21, 1955 in Seattle.
Mrs. Gidlof was a member of the Evergreen Garden Club and the Mason-Benson Association.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Pamela Wilson of Corinne, Utah, Lisa Mauler of Everett and Shelly Rawding of White Salmon, Wash.; one brother, George Wouwenaar of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and seven grandchildren, Emily Wilson of Corinne, Andrew and James Eder, both of Everett, and Justine, Brett, Jacob and Mariah Rawding, all of White Salmon.
A memorial service is planned for 10 a.m. April 8 at St. Hugh Episcopal Church in Allyn. Inurnment will take place at Abbey View cemetery in Briar, Wash.

Alexander Kinsfather
Alexander Kinsfather, 77, of Bremerton died March 29, 2000, at Bremerton Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born July 22, 1922, in Touchet, Wash., to Peter and Mollie (Jesse) Kinsfather. He graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1940.
He served in the Navy during World War II, from 1942 to 1945.
Mr. Kinsfather was a golf professional for 55 years.
He was a member of the Elks.
Survivors include one son, Kirk of Bremerton; one sister, Clara Metz of Milton Freewater, Ore.; and three grandchildren, Jay of the Air Force, Alexander of Bellingham and Casey of Bremerton.
Private family services were held on March 30 at Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Sherrill Blair
Sherrill Ann (Gochenour) Blair, 42, of Indianola died March 25, 2000, in Seattle.
She was born Sept. 27, 1957, in Tacoma, to Neal and Ruth Gochenour. She grew up in Indianola, graduating from North Kitsap High School in 1976.
She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary 7329.
Survivors include her mother; one son, Steven Silverwood of Clarkesville, Tenn.; two daughters, Nicole and Reneé Blair, both of Cambridge, Ohio; one brother, Frank Gochenour; and one granddaughter, Briana Nardi.

Melvin Winger
Melvin S. Winger, 75, of Bremerton died March 29, 2000, in Bremerton of natural causes.
He was born Aug. 6, 1924, in Moore, Idaho, to Chris and Flossie (Gammett) Winger. He grew up in Blackfoot, Idaho.
Mr. Winger served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946. He was stationed in the Asiatic Pacific during World War II.
He was retired from a career as a welder at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
Mr. Winger was a member of the Eagles.
Survivors include two sons, Chris and Rodney, both of Port Orchard; three daughters, Sandra Cunningham of Spanaway, Rosanna Rogers of Silverdale and Flossie Wise of Illahee; one sister, Mildred Wheeler of Tracyton; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmo and William, and by a sister, Romona Phillips.
A potluck for family and friends is planned for 1 to 3 p.m. today at American Legion Post 68, 1240 Sheridan Road in Bremerton. Interment
took place March 31 at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Carolyn Felix
Carolyn E. Felix, 76, of Bremerton died March 30, 2000, in Bremerton from complications of a heart attack.
She was born Sept. 25, 1923, in Stratford, Wis., where she grew up and graduated from high school.
She married
Forrest J. Felix in Stratford. He preceded her in death in 1975.
Mrs. Felix was a homemaker. She had worked as a teacher's assistant in the Bremerton School District for 10 years, primarily at Crownhill Elementary School.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Sweet Adelines and the Harrison Hospital Auxiliary.
Survivors include one son, Brian of Silverdale; two daughters, Sharon Berger of Bremerton and Mary Beth Arago of San Francisco; one brother, Red Weisman of Sullivan, Wis.; one sister, Lorraine Kaiser of Marshfield, Wis.; and two grandchildren, Heather and Shanon Berger, both of Bremerton.
A graveside service is planned for 10:30 a.m. Monday at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
