Garnet Montgomery
Garnet Lilly Montgomery, 70, of Poulsbo died March 26, 2000, in Bremerton.
She was born Oct. 27, 1929, in Clarkdale, Ariz., to Eugene and Edna (Green) Montgomery. She was educated in Pueblo, Colo.
She married Rue J. Montgomery. He preceded her in death in 1972.
Mrs. Montgomery owned and operated The Diner restaurant in Poulsbo for over 20 years.
She was a member of the Sons of Norway.
Survivors include three sons, Jim of Brinnon, Richard of Poulsbo and William of Seabeck; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert.
Visitation is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove Memorial Park. A funeral service is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday also at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel, with burial following at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Kay Kurtz Ries
Katharine "Kay" Kurtz Ries, 88, a resident of Gig Harbor and Port Orchard for 29 years, died March 29, 2000, at Martha and Mary Health Care Center in Poulsbo.
She was born in Baltimore, Md., on April 1, 1911.
She worked at the Edgewood Military Arsenal in Maryland for many years. She attended St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Gig Harbor and St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard.
Survivors include one niece, Nora Lent of Port Orchard and one nephew, E. Thomas Collins of Bellingham.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Haven of Rest Chapel in Gig Harbor, with interment at Haven of Rest Memorial Park.
Memorial donations may be made to a church or charity of the donor's choice.

Garnet Montgomery
Garnet Lilly Montgomery, 70, of Poulsbo died March 26, 2000, in Bremerton.

Charles Clement
Charles A. Clement, 71, of Bremerton died March 25, 2000, in Bremerton.
He was born Jan. 4, 1929, in Petersburg, Texas, to Charles and Ethel (Felty) Clement. He grew up in Hobbs, N.M., graduating from high school there. He graduated from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, N.M., in 1952, received a master's degree from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Fla., in 1968, and completed Air War College Association training through the Air University at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama in 1973.
He married Betty Anderson on Dec. 19, 1951, in Alamogordo, N.M.
Mr. Clement served in the Marine Corps from 1946 to 1948, achieving the rank of corporal. He retired from the Air Force Reserves as a lieutenant colonel in 1977, having served since 1952.
He was vice president of Raytheon-Range Systems Engineering for five years, retiring in 1996.
Mr. Clement was an inductee into the College Basketball Hall of Fame in February of this year and had been a member of the NMSU national championship team in 1952. He was one of 100 Outstanding Living Alumni of the NMSU College of Engineering in 1987 and had received the NASA Apollo II Achievement Award in conjunction with the July 20, 1969, Eagle landing on the moon.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Sandra Powell of Titusville, Fla., Kimberly Harrison of Tavernier in the Florida Keys and Susan Clement-Toberer of Omaha, Neb.; one sister, Mary Nave of Hobbs; and four grandchildren, Adam and Troy, both of Titusville, and John Robert "J.R." and Jessica Harrison, both of Tavernier.
A celebration of life is planned from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday at Kitsap Golf and Country Club. Arrangements are by Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Paul Fatland
Paul C. Fatland, 60, of Gig Harbor died March 27, 2000, in Gig Harbor.
He was born Oct. 3, 1939, in Tacoma. He grew up in Gig Harbor, attending Peninsula High School and working at Hank Peterson's Standard Service Station.
After high school, he purchased the service station, operating it and Paul's Towing Service until his retirement in 1998. He was involved with state and local emergency services as a tow-truck operator.
Mr. Fatland was mayor of Purdy for one year. He was a member of the Marque Car Club and the Helmsman Service Club.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen; his mother, Alice Fatland; one sister, Patty Fatland; one brother, Al Fatland; seven children, Paula DeMoss, Pamela Walsh, Penny Hernandez, James Derrer of Port Orchard, Mandy Derrer, Desirae Derrer and Matt Murphy; and 13 grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Haven of Rest Funeral Home in Gig Harbor and from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Gig Harbor United Methodist Church, followed by a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. Interment icon will take place at Haven of Rest Memorial Park.

Gladys Johnston
Gladys Broom Johnston, 88, of Bainbridge Island died March 24, 2000, at her home.
She was born Sept. 22, 1911, on Bainbridge Island to Annie and Henry Selfors. She graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1931.
She married Grenville Broom in 1936. He preceded her in death in 1945.
Prior to her marriage, she had worked as a telephone operator. Then, during World War II, she was employed as a seamstress in the family business. She later became a homemaker.
She married Jimmie Johnston in 1949. He preceded her in death in 1989.
Survivors include one son, George of Bainbridge Island; one daughter, Jennifer Fisher of Haines, Alaska; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral service is planned for 10 a.m. today at Port Madison Lutheran Church on Bainbridge Island. Arrangements are by Kass Funeral Home on Bainbridge Island.
Memorial donations may be made to Bainbridge Island Volunteer Fire Department, 8895 Madison Ave. NE, Bainbridge Island, WA 98110.

Jerry Joyce
Gerald F. "Jerry" Joyce, 85, of Silverdale died March 22, 2000, at Country Meadows in Silverdale.
He was born Jan. 18, 1915, in Buckingham, Quebec, Canada, to Albert and Belle Joyce. He moved to Kitsap County at an early age, graduating from North Kitsap High School.
He married Alva Mildred Malde in Poulsbo on May 27, 1938.
Mr. Joyce worked for more than 30 years as a building materials salesman, operating from the Bremerton area and traveling throughout the Olympic Peninsula. He retired from Palmer G. Lewis in 1980, and moved to Dabob Bay in Jefferson County.
He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and Boy Scouts of America while in Bremerton. In Jefferson County, he was a member of the Quilcene Lions Club and the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Chimacum.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Jerilyn "Jinnie" Francalangia of Kirkland; two sons, Terry of Bremerton and Dennis of Marysville; one sister, Margaret Stevens of Poulsbo; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. April 8 at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. A reception will follow.

Eva Peterson
Eva Marie Peterson, 95, of Poulsbo died March 26, 2000, at Martha & Mary Health Care Center in Poulsbo.
She was born Feb. 17, 1905, in Burwick, N.D. She moved to Seattle as a young girl.
She married Walter C. Peterson in Seattle. The Petersons lived for many years in Ballard and later in Bothell. They moved to Poulsbo in 1975. Mr. Peterson preceded his wife in death in 1980.
Survivors include one daughter, Helen Lehman of Poulsbo; one son, Ted of Lynnwood; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo.

Robert Metcalf
Robert Eugene Metcalf, 53, of Bremerton died March 25, 2000, at his home following a short illness.
He was born Sept. 16, 1946, in Pineville, Mo., to Robert and Joan (Blaine) Metcalf. He was raised in Missouri, graduating from high school in Kansas and attending community college in Los Angeles.
Mr. Metcalf served in the Navy from 1964 to 1984, retiring in the Philippines as a chief master at arms.
Following his military service, he worked in the Philippines, moving to Kitsap County in 1991. He then worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a criminal investigator.
He married Milagros Sevilla on March 20, 1985, in the Philippines.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Robert and Larry, both of Bremerton; two daughters, Lora and Miracle, both of Bremerton; one sister, Rhonda Neal of Grove, Okla.; and one brother, Eddie Blaine of Grove.
A memorial service is planned for 3 p.m. Friday at Lewis Funeral Chapel with cremation at Cherry Grove Memorial Park.

Donald Ellsworth
Former Port Orchard resident Donald C. Ellsworth, 70, of Burns, Ore., died March 23, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Nov. 18, 1929, in Wellington Township, Mich., to Carlton and Margaret (Nehring) Ellsworth. He grew up in Wellington Township.
Mr. Ellsworth served in the Army as a medic in Korea from 1950 to 1953. He worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 19 years, retiring in 1990.
Survivors include three sons, Donald Jr. and Paul, both of Belfair, and Jeffery Johnson of Marysville; three daughters, Jean Noehl and Penny Johnson, both of Port Orchard, and Tarma Johnson of Bremerton; eight grandchildren, Cindy Mulligan, Chris Brooks, Shaina Ellsworth, Rae and Aaron Noehl, Bryan Johnson, Scott Waterbury and Sean Ellsworth; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Priscilla, in 1996; by two sons, Wesley Wilbur and William Johnson; and by two sisters, Isabell Burr of Hillman, Mich., and Donabelle McMilkin of Wellington Township.
A private, graveside service will be held at the Burns cemetery in Burns, Ore. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Northwest Kidney Foundation, P.O. Box 3000, Seattle, WA 98114.

J. Frances Vannorsdel
J. Frances Vannorsdel, 95, of Port Orchard died March 25, 2000, at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard.
She was born March 18, 1905, in Seattle to Royal and Lorene (Holman) Denniston. She attended Lincoln High School in Seattle, graduating from Roosevelt High School there in 1922. She graduated from Bellingham Normal School in 1925.
She married Harry W. Vannorsdel on June 26, 1949, in Seattle. He preceded her in death in 1987.
Mrs. Vannorsdel taught school in Kitsap County for 19 years. She was a member of Manchester Community Church.
Survivors include one sister, Virginia Sandry of Shoreline.
A graveside memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Friday at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. April 2 at Manchester Community Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
