James Olson
James W. Olson, 82, a former Bremerton resident, died Sept. 1, 1998, in El Cajon, Calif.
He was born Jan. 4, 1916, in Three Lakes, Wash. He graduated from Bremerton High School in 1934.
Mr. Olson retired from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard after 33 years of service. He was a resident of San Diego County for 25 years.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Lorraine (Braendlien) Olson; two sons, Christopher of El Cajon, Calif., and Timothy of Bremerton; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of Featheringill Mortuary, San Diego, Calif.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Sept. 10 at Ft. Rosecrans National cemetery in San Diego, Calif.
Ellen Getavesky
Ellen Louise Getavesky, 50, of Silverdale died Sept. 1, 1998, in a traffic collision on Newberry Hill Road.
She was born Dec. 31, 1947, in San Gabriel, Calif. to Walter and Louise (Mathieu) Finney. She was raised in Bremerton and graduated from Bremerton High School in 1965.
Mrs. Getavesky served in the Navy from 1965 to 1968. She was stationed in Maryland as a photographer. She later made her living as a welder for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 20 years until her retirement.
On Nov. 3, 1968, she married
Michael Getavesky in Maryland. He preceded her in death in 1974.
Survivors include her mother; a son, Andrew of Anchorage, Alaska; a daughter, Karen Katnis of Coon Rapids, Minn.; a brother, Jack Finney of Port Townsend; two sisters, Rebekah Banghart of Snohomish and Edith Harrell of Bremerton; and one granddaughter, Krystle Katnis of Coon Rapids, Minn.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sept. 5 at Lewis Funeral Chapel with interment at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Delores Cook
A graveside service for former Port Orchard resident Delores Yvonne Cook, 67, will be at 10 a.m. Sept. 3 at Sunset Lane cemetery.
Mrs. Cook died Nov. 27, 1997, in Vancouver, Wash.
She was born July 28, 1930, in Ridgefield to Howard Dietrich and Kathryn Heath. She graduated from high school in Wishram.
She belonged to the Bubble Babies Bowling Team at Hi-Joy Bowl.
Survivors include her ex-husband, Robert of Port Orchard; two sons, James of Port Orchard and Robert of Vancouver; one brother, Charles Heath of Portland, Ore.; two sisters, Cheryl Nelson of Portland and Jackie Beavers of Carson; and one grandson, Jeffrey Cook of Port Orchard.
Local arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist at Rill Chapel.
Leo Kent
Leo H. Kent, 90, of Port Orchard died Sept. 1, 1998, at Ridgemont Terrace Convalescent Center in Port Orchard after a short illness.
He was born July 18, 1908, in Rawlins, Wyo., to Guy and Bena (Johnson) Kent. He was raised in South Dakota.
On March 14, 1934, he married
Wilda Gibbs in Gregory, S.D. She preceded him in death in 1994.
Mr. Kent started the Avondale Mercantile store in Redmond. He also developed and built the Avon Villa Mobile Home Park in Avondale, along with gas stations, a grocery store and other businesses.
Survivors include two daughters, Velda Florer of Port Orchard and Verla Brown of Anacortes; a sister, Beneda Lewis of Bothell; several half-brothers and sisters; four grandchildren, Lauren Florer of Lynnwood, Randy Florer of Mount Home, Idaho, Lisa Florer of Port Orchard and David Brown of Everett.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 3 at Rill Chapel. A public memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Sept. 5 at Acacia Memorial Park.

Joseph Sayers
Joseph W. Sayers, 85, of Port Orchard died Sept. 1, 1998, of a heart attack.
He was born Sept. 9, 1912, in Medicine Lake, Mont., to Louis J. and Christine (Morin) Sayers. He was raised and educated in Medicine Lake.
On July 30, 1938, he married
Mary E. Winter in Poplar, Mont.
Mr. Sayers was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church and a volunteer for St. Vincent de Paul, both in Port Orchard.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, W. John of Renton, Thomas J., Michael A. and Christopher R, all of Port Orchard; a daughter, Patricia J. Yingling of Allyn; two brothers, James E. of Sequim and Ernest J. of Bremerton; a sister, Ann Dougherty of Reno, Nev.; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Ross Coppinger, in 1977.
Visitation will be from 12 noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 4 and from 9 a.m. to 12 noon Sept. 5 at Rill Chapel. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 7 at Rill Chapel. Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. Sept. 8 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, with interment following Mass at Sunset Lane cemetery.

Monnievee Temple
Monnievee E. Temple, 81, of Port Orchard died Aug. 28, 1998, in Seattle.
She was born Sept. 26, 1916, in Williamson, W. Va., to Iva E. and Sarah Jane (Maynard) Adams. She attended Williamson High School.
Mrs. Temple was a bar manager. She was a member of the Port Orchard Auxiliary, F.O. Eagles. Survivors include two sons, Alex Smith of Mica Loma, Calif., and Iva Ray Smith of Bremerton; four daughters, Vaneda Carter and Madge Stone, both of Port Orchard, and Odenia Stapleton and Alecia Adkins, both of Columbus, Ohio; a brother, Council Adams of Williamson, W. Va.; a sister, Odenia Franz of Muncie, Ind.; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Sadie Penningroth
Sadie Anita Penningroth, 86, of Bremerton died Aug. 31, 1998, after a long illness.
She was born April 5, 1912, in Armour, S.D., to Charles and Ena Sue (Call) Baker. She graduated from Armour High School in 1931, and later from Central Washington University in 1962.
On April 16, 1934, she married
Max Penningroth in Olivet, S.D.
Mrs. Penningroth was a school teacher for 16 years with the South Kitsap School District until her retirement.
She was a member of Eastern Star. Survivors include her husband; a son, Gerald of Renton; a daughter, Janet Bodner of Lakewood; a brother, Jack Baker of Bloomington, Ill.; a sister, Geraldine Johnson of Bossier City, La.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A private family graveside service will be at Forest Lawn cemetery. Interment
will also be at Forest Lawn.

Jerry Fojtik
Jerry Fojtik, 89, of Bremerton died Aug. 31, 1998, at Bremerton Convalescent Center.
He was born Oct. 21, 1908, in Oklahoma City, Okla.
He married
the former Helen Stritesky in 1940. They moved to Bremerton in 1953.
Mr. Fojtik was a power plant electrician foreman at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1973.
He was a member of National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Richard and Robert, both of Bremerton, and Gerald of Spokane; a sister, Jean Vargo of Naperville, Ill.; and six grandchildren.
At Mr. Fojtik's request, there will be no service. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Margaret Monroe
Margaret R. Monroe, 82, died Aug. 28, 1998, in Bremerton.
She was retired with 30 years of service at Harborview Medical Center.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her son, Dallas Graves; three grandchildren, James Graves, Anita Braddock and Michelle Graves; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, David E. Monroe in 1996.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Sept. 12 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 701 North 43rd St., Seattle. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wiggen and Sons Funeral Home.

Walter Langland
Walter Martin Langland, 69, of Bremerton died Aug. 29, 1998, in Port Orchard.
He was born March 13, 1929, in Chicago, Ill. to Martin and Cecilia (Koskinen) Langland. He was raised in Chicago.
In 1958, he married
Mildred Witt in Port Orchard.
Mr. Langland made his living for 17 years as a custodian for the Bremerton area schools until his retirement in 1985.
He was a member of the Eagles and the Pacers CB Club.
Survivors include his wife; a brother, Raenold Probst of Oregon; a sister, Peggy Voland of Florida; and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Probst.
