Frank Hoelterhoff
Frank Hoelterhoff, 76, of Bainbridge Island died March 9, 2000, in Seattle.
He was born Nov. 15, 1923, in Chicago, to Frank W. and Clara (Friemel) Hoelterhoff. He received a bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of Illinois in 1952, and a master's degree in architecture and architectural engineering from the University of Washington in 1957.
Mr. Hoelterhoff served in the Army.
He worked for Skilling, Ward, Magnusson, Barkshire consulting engineers in Seattle for 31 years, retiring in 1986.
Survivors include two daughters, Linna McAuliffe of Nine Mile Falls, Wash., and Diane Heaton of Snohomish; one brother, Ernest of Spencer, Iowa; two sisters, Lorraine Haffler of Louisville, Ky, . and Eleanor Johns of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and two grandsons, Anthony and Gregory McAuliffe, both of Nine Mile Falls.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Cecilia Catholic Church on Bainbridge Island. Arrangements are under the direction of Kass Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bainbridge Firefighters, 8895 Madison Ave., Bainbridge Island, WA 98110, or to Bainbridge Library, 1270 Madison Ave., Bainbridge Island, WA 98110.

Goldie Garcia
Goldie E. Garcia, 72, of Bremerton died March 11, 2000, at Harrison Hospital in Bremerton.
She was born in Powder, Ore., on Jan. 24, 1928, to Harry and Mabel (Shoemaker) McCormick. She was raised in Merlin, Ore.
She was a homemaker.
She and Carlos (Charlie) Garcia were married in 1975 in Bremerton. He died in 1993.
She is survived by two sons, Richard Moulton and Derwin DuMont, both of Bremerton; two daughters, Bernita Goodell of Ronan, Mont., and Clarice DuMont of Bremerton; two brothers, Harley and Charles McCormick, both of Grants Pass, Ore.; a sister, Della Ayers of Grants Pass; 11 grandchildren, Lisa, Tina, Mamie, Richard II, Lori, Jesse, Derwin III, Breanna, Eric, Mose and Tiffany; and five great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Rill Chapel. Burial will be at Sunset Lane cemetery.

John Schold
John Hind Schold, 77, of Silverdale died March 9, 2000, in Bremerton.
He was born Sept. 13, 1922, in Bremerton to Albin and Jean (Hind) Schold. He grew up in Silverdale and graduated from high school there in 1940.
He married Ruth Lamb on Aug. 24, 1968, at Silverdale Lutheran Church.
He was a member of the Silverdale Old-Timers Club, the Bremerton Elks Club and the Travel and Fun Club.
Mr. Schold is survived by his wife, of Silverdale; three sons, David of Orangevale, Calif., John of Sausalito, Calif., and Daniel of Silverdale; two sisters, Margaret Peterson of Laguna Hills, Calif., and Elizabeth Quinn of Sacramento, Calif.; and four grandchildren, Carrie Norwood of York, England, John D. Schold of St. Louis, and Cale and Koen Schold of Seattle. He was preceded in death by a sister, Genevieve.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Silverdale Lutheran Church. A private family inurnment will take place at Mountain View cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Betty Malven
Betty Maxine Malven, 79, of Bremerton died March 9, 2000, in Silverdale.
She was born April 2, 1920, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Robert Miller Burt and Jean McCleary (Pender). She attended school in Provo, Utah.
She married Charles J. Malven on June 20, 1945, in Lowry Field, Colo.
Mrs. Malven was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Maryann Ness of Mercer Island; a sister, Catherine Carreon; and three grandchildren.
No services will be held. Cremation will be at Cherry Grove Memorial Park.
Arrangements are being handled by Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Neil Newland
Neil D. Newland, 95, of Bremerton died of natural causes March 5, 2000, at Sharon's Adult Family Home.
He was born June 13, 1904, in Waterloo, Ore., to John and Elvira (Banta) Newland. He grew up in Brownsville, Ore., graduating from Brownsville High School in 1926.
He married Sarah (Attridge) Newland on April 29, 1954.
Mr. Newland worked as a pipefitter at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1966.
He was a life member of Masonic Lodge 117. He was also a member of the Pipefitters Union.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter of Oregon; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son and three sisters.
At his request, there will be no services. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Thyra Halverson
Thyra Ingeborg Halverson, 92, of Poulsbo died March 6, 2000, at Martha & Mary Health Care Center.
She was born July 11, 1907, in Scandia (Poulsbo), to Charles and Ellen (Nelson) Nelson. She grew up in Scandia, attending Pearson School and Poulsbo High School.
She married Oscar Halverson on Oct. 25, 1926, in Scandia. He preceded her in death in 1985.
Mrs. Halverson was a homemaker.
Survivors include two nieces, Marilyn Kreitner of Bremerton and Judith Steen of Santa Cruz, Calif. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Norval and Tyko Nelson, both of Bremerton, and by a sister, Nannie Otticia Nelson Kippola of Poulsbo.
No services are planned. Interment icon will take place at Mountain View cemetery in Poulsbo. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to Martha & Mary Health Care Center or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Alice Bakken
Alice Evelyn Bakken, 83, of Bremerton died March 8, 2000, at her home following a lengthy illness.
She was born June 25, 1916, in Pembina, N.D., to Ness and Hilda (Eikeness) Jens. She was raised and educated in Fargo, N.D., where she graduated from Central High School in 1934, and from the St. Luke's Hospital nursing program.
She married Henry "Hank" Bakken on June 25, 1937, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead, Minn. They had celebrated 62 years of marriage.
Mrs. Bakken had worked as a nurse at Harrison Hospital, the Schutt Clinic in Bremerton and for Dr. J.E. Haddon in Bremerton.
She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Bremerton, Reliance Chapter 70 Order of the Eastern Star and the Patrol (drill team) for the Daughters of the Nile.
She is survived by her husband.
A funeral service is planned for 11 a.m. Monday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Entombment will take place in Hillcrest Mausoleum at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Masel Lane
Former Bremerton resident Masel S. Lane, 97, of Piqua, Ohio, died March 9, 2000, at Upper Valley Medical Center in Piqua.
She was born in Roseburg, Ore., on Feb. 14, 1903, to James and Sarah E. (Thomas) Shelton.
She married Harry S. Lane on March 3, 1924, in McAlester, Okla. He preceded her in death in 1976.
Mrs. Lane was a member of the Mid County Church of Christ in Troy, Ohio, and the Bremerton Art Guild. In addition to being a homemaker, she worked within the Beverly Hills Public School System in California.
Survivors include a daughter, O. Elizabeth Niswonger of Piqua; two sons, James Shelton of El Paso, Texas, and Jerry P. Lane of Bremerton; 16 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 37 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Adams; a grandson, Norman Niswonger; a brother, James Shelton; and a sister, Exie Farrar.
A memorial service is planned for 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Mid County Church of Christ. Interment icon will be in the San Jacinto Valley cemetery in Hemet, Calif. Arrangements are under the direction of Jamieson and Yannucci Funeral Home in Piqua.
Memorial donations may be made to Mid County Church of Christ, 1580 N. Dorset Road, Troy, OH 45373.

Bud Weich
Ivan E. "Bud" Weich, 59, of Poulsbo died March 8, 2000, at Harrison Hospital after a six-month battle with cancer.
He was born May 11, 1940, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Ivan E. and Mabel (Scott) Weich. He grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, graduating from Rhodes High School there in 1958. He attended Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, and Redlands University in San Diego, graduating from Chapman University in Anaheim, Calif., in 1995.
He married Bonnie Ana Johnson on April 4, 1964, in San Diego.
Mr. Weich served in the Navy from 1961 to 1980, stationed in San Diego; Cape Canaveral, Fla.; Charleston, S.C.; and in Jacksonville, Fla. He was a senior chief petty officer and the recipient of the Navy Achievement Medal with Gold Star and the National Defense Medal.
He worked for Schwartz Enterprises in Port Orchard, recording title documents. Previously, he was employed by Interstate Electronics Corp. in Anaheim, from 1981 to 1997, as a field service engineer and as a field office manager.
Mr. Weich was a member of the Sons of Norway in Poulsbo and had been active in several bowling leagues.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ivan Jr. of Bremerton and William of Reston, Va.; a sister, Louise of Strongsville, Ohio; and two stepsisters, Carolyn of Hilton Head, S.C., and Nancy of Cleveland, Tenn.
A rosary will be said at
10 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bremerton, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment icon will take place at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

William Gillis
William Wayne Gillis, 88, of Bremerton died March 4, 2000, in Bremerton.
He was born Dec. 14, 1911, in Medford, Ore., to William H. and Grace (Chamberlain) Gillis. He attended school in Medford.
Mr. Gillis served with the Seabees during World War II in the Pacific Theatre.
He married Ruth Alberstett on Guam in 1960. The couple lived on Guam until 1968.
Mr. Gillis worked in the planning department at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for more than 20 years, retiring in 1972.
He was a member of the Elks.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Gareth of California; a daughter, Kathleen Miller of California; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
No services are planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel, with cremation at Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo.

Claire Copass
Claire Rose Copass, 63, of Bremerton died March 9, 2000, in Bremerton.
She was born April 15, 1936, in Fall River, Mass., to Charles Joseph and Imelda (Gagon) LaPointe. She attended school in Fall River.
She married Wayne Copass on April 19, 1954, in Fall River.
Mrs. Copass was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband; her mother; five sons, Mike of Coventry, R.I., Mark of Fall River, and Wayne Jr., Scott and Jason, all of Bremerton; three daughters, Carol Copass, Lori Villar and Donna Ward, all of Bremerton; a sister, Lucille Beaullier of Swansea, Mass.; two brothers, Gerard LaPointe of Windsor Locks, Conn., and Henri LaPointe of Fall River; and 11 grandchildren.
No services are planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel, with cremation at Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo.
