Verne Guertin
Verne Edmund Guertin, 89, of Bremerton died March 4, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Oct. 2, 1910, in Barre, Mass., to Edmund and Elizabeth (Thompson) Guertin. He graduated from Barre High School.
Survivors include one son, Verne of Las Vegas; one daughter, Nancy Smith of Charlotte, N.C.; one sister, Adrienne Englehardt of Las Vegas; 10 grandchildren, Jacki, Richie, Jimmy, Curtis, Lori, Jeannie, G. Scott Jr., Janette, Danny and Denise; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Flannery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Ronald Peterson
Ronald Lewis Peterson, 52, of Bremerton died March 3, 2000, at his home of a heart attack.
He was born Feb. 9, 1948, in Bremerton to Lewis and Vivian (Petersen) Peterson. He grew up in Bremerton, graduating from West High School in 1966.
He married
Carol Boddy on Sept. 17, 1976, in Bremerton.
Mr. Peterson worked as a machinist at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard from 1966 to 1972. Later, he was a school bus driver with the Bremerton School District from 1978 to 1987.
He is survived by his wife of Bremerton; and one son, Jacob of Bremerton.
Services are pending. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Eddie Corpuz
Eddie Pacona Corpuz, 87, of Bainbridge Island died March 5, 2000, on Bainbridge Island.
He was born July 15, 1912, in the Philippines to Simon and Teodora (Pagtaconan) Corpuz. He spent his youth in the Philippines. He attended Bainbridge High School.
Mr. Corpuz served in the Army during World War II, stationed in northern France, Normandy and Iceland.
He married
Asteria Ocampo in 1962.
He worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 31 years, retiring in 1978. He also farmed strawberries on Bainbridge Island.
Mr. Corpuz was past president of the Filipino-American Organization on Bainbridge Island.
He is survived by his wife; and one son, Eddie of Bainbridge Island.
Visitation is scheduled for 1 to 5 p.m. Friday at Kass Funeral Home on Bainbridge Island and at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Cecilia Catholic Church on Bainbridge Island. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, followed by interment at noon in Kane cemetery on Bainbridge Island.
Judith Cornell
Judith Louise Cornell, 53, of Bremerton died March 3, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Nov. 28, 1946, in Bremerton. She graduated from West High School in 1965, and attended Olympic College periodically throughout her life.
She had been employed as a computer analyst at the Naval Undersea Warfare Engineering Station at Keyport, retiring in 1995.
She is survived by a sister, Ethel Simmons of Bremerton.
At her request there will be no services. Arrangements are under the direction of Tuell-McKee of Bremerton.

Beryl Skuza
Beryl Emerson Skuza, 80, of Port Orchard died
March 6, 2000, at Ridgemont Terrace.
She was born Jan. 10, 1920, in Livingston, Mont., to Edgar and Frances E. (Cheplak) Logan. She grew up in Bremerton.
Survivors include one son, Stanley Ludvikson of Tulsa, Okla.; one daughter, Janet Crice of Port Orchard; four grandchildren, James, S. Donnell, John and Robert Grice; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 3 p.m. Monday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. Inurnment will take place at Miller Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Elizabeth Schmidt
Elizabeth B. Schmidt, 88, of Bremerton died March 5, 2000, in Seattle.
She was born Sept. 6, 1911, in Bremerton to John Hart and Bertha (Schultz) Fitzpatrick. She grew up in Bremerton, graduating from Bremerton High School in 1929.
She married
Bernard Schmidt in 1971, in Reno, Nev. He preceded her in death in 1987.
She worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 30 years, retiring in 1973, as a supply clerk in Fleet Ballistic Missiles.
Mrs. Schmidt was an active member of the Moose and Eagles organizations.
Survivors include one son, John Milner, M.D. of Seattle; one daughter, Margaret Sorenson of Seattle; five grandchildren, Joan Sorenson of Seattle, Nancy McHugh of Federal Way, Karen Long of Bainbridge Island, Joseph Milner of Los Angeles and Ann Milner-Phillips of Ireland; and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday at Ivy Green cemetery in Bremerton. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Madalynne Bowe
Madalynne M. Bowe, 91, of Bremerton died March 5, 2000, in Bremerton of natural causes.
She was born Sept. 7, 1908, in Woodburn, Ore., to James and Anna (Holmen) Maricle. She grew up in Woodburn.
She married
James A. Bowe on July 3, 1953, in Bremerton. He preceded her in death in 1984.
Mrs. Bowe was a homemaker. During World War II, she was employed in electrical work at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
She attended Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Bremerton.
She is survived by a sister, Bernice Jennings of Bremerton.
Visitation is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. Interment
will take place at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
LaFrance Reasons
LaFrance Oma Reasons, 81, of Bremerton died
March 5, 2000, at Bremerton Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Nov. 17, 1918, in Patmos, Ark., to William and Edna (Keith) Simmons. She was raised and educated in Arkansas, later attending college in Missouri.
She married
Ervin Reasons on Sept. 29, 1939, in Reno, Nev. He preceded her in death in 1998.
The Reason family moved to Bremerton in 1945. Mrs. Reason worked at the Naval Undersea Warfare Engineering Station in Keyport from 1955 until her retirement in 1974.
She was a member of the Ladies of Elks and the Travel Club. She also had worked with Girl Scouts for many years.
Survivors include two sons, Joe of Port Orchard and Charles of Ellensburg; one daughter, Barbara Reasons-Schick of Poulsbo; one sister, Josephine Welch of Shreveport, La.; one brother, Travis Simmons of Shreveport; seven grandchildren, Janet, Jodi, Tad, Trent and Alex Reasons, Elaine Schick Madamva and Sally Schick; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel, with an inurnment service at 2:30 p.m. at Forest Lawn cemetery. Cremation is under the direction of Cherry Grove Memorial Park.

Clifford Roth
Clifford G. Roth, 74, of Bremerton died March 2, 2000, in Bremerton of pneumonia.
He was born March 15, 1925, in Spokane to George and Grace (Phillips) Roth. He grew up in Spokane, graduating from the University of Washington in Seattle in 1952.
He married
Shirley Myatt on June 10, 1951, in Seattle.
Mr. Roth worked for IBM for 35 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gregory of Kamloops, B.C., and Phillip of Bremerton; six grandchildren, Travis, Suzannah, Luane, Eric, Clinton and Shirley Roth, all of Bremerton; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service has been held. Arrangements were under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Jeff Duchesneau
Former Bremerton resident Jeffery "Jeff" Lee Duchesneau, 32, of Anacortes died March 2, 2000, at Island Hospital in Anacortes.
He was born Dec. 16, 1967, in Anacortes and spent his childhood there.
On Feb. 14, 1988, he married
Melissa C. Olson in Bremerton, where the couple lived for several years before moving to Fort Mills, S.C. They moved to Anacortes about a year ago.
He is survived by his wife; his parents, Albert Duchesneau of North Judson, Ind., and Helen Bake of Shelton; one son, Stephen Jacob "Jeffery Lee Jr." Duchesneau of Anacortes; two daughters, Nicole Gaddy of Wolcott, N.Y., and Nichelle Duchesneau of Anacortes; two brothers, Edward of Renton and Stuart of Burien; one sister, Lanette Duchesneau of Bremerton; and his grandmother, Joyce Bake of Anacortes.
A celebration of life was held Saturday at the Marina Inn Hotel, 3300 Commercial Avenue, Anacortes. Arrangements were by Evans Funeral Chapel, Anacortes.

Hazel Marts
Hazel Helen Marts, 89, of Bremerton died March 2, 2000, in Bremerton of natural causes.
She was born May 24, 1910, in Midway, Wyo., to John and Mary Jane (Miller) Haddenham. She grew up in Wyoming.
She married
William Howard Marts on Nov. 20, 1927, in Opal, Wyo. He preceded her in death in 1973.
Mrs. Marts was a homemaker. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include five sons, William and Thomas, both of Bremerton, John of Yakima, Robert of Renton and Joe of Arizona; two daughters, Janelle Reese of Idaho and Judy Kay of Forks; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a son, James Edward.
A funeral service was held Monday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. Interment
will take place at 2 p.m. today at Terrace Heights cemetery in Yakima.
Drum Rhodes
Dessa Jane "Drum" Rhodes, 77, of Bremerton died Feb. 27, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born June 27, 1922, in Ladysmith, Wis., to Earnest and Sarah Drum. She grew up in Ladysmith, graduating from high school there in 1940.
She married
Berton Benjamin Rhodes on June 27, 1942, in Ladysmith. He preceded her in death in 1977.
Survivors include three sons, Bill of Wenatchee, and Ernest and Edward, both of Bremerton; one daughter, Debra Butler of Bremerton; one brother, William Drum of Exeland, Wis.; two sisters, Betty Plantz of Ladysmith and Lorriane Gadis of Bruce, Wis.; 16 grandchildren, Dessera Rhodes of Washington, Andrea and Ardie Plagens, both of Yakima, Corey, Debbie and Ricky Rhodes and Tina and Roy Nelson, all of Moses Lake, Jennifer and Marvin Olson, both of Pateros, Kim Nielson of Camas, Ore., and Delevan and Benjamin Rhodes, Jimmy Bennett and Corey Butler and Sherei Butler, all of Bremerton; and 22 great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by two sons, Arthur and Michael.
A memorial service was held Monday at the Sheridan Community Center in Bremerton. Arrangements are by Tuell-McKee.
