Curly Lowe
Floyd "Curly" Lowe, 86, of Seabeck died Feb. 20, 2000, at Harrison Hospital of natural causes.
He was born July 26, 1913, in Seattle to Arthur L. and Louise (Bailey) Lowe Kellum. He grew up in Seabeck.
He married Edith D. Aaro on Aug. 11, 1932, in Port Orchard.
Mr. Lowe served in the Washington State Guard from 1943 to 1945.
He worked as a rigger at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1970, after 30 years. From the age of 16 to 1939, he had been a logger in Camp Union, Seabeck and the Olympic Mountains.
Mr. Lowe was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Jean Warner of Silverdale and Marlene Hart of Seabeck; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one great-grandson, Ryan Patterson, in 1988; two sons, Arnold in 1995, and Douglas in 1937; and by three brothers and four sisters.
A memorial service is planned for 2:30 p.m. Friday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Arrangements are by Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, 4441 Woodland Park Ave. N., Seattle, WA 98103.

Ted Kaye
Harold E. "Ted" Kaye, 82, of Bremerton died Feb. 21, 2000, at his home.
He was born March 6, 1917, in Victoria, British Columbia, to William and Josephine (Lavender) Kaye. He had been a resident of Kitsap County since the age of 13, graduating from West High School, where he played football and later played semi-professional football.
He married Ruth Phillips on April 14, 1946, in Bremerton.
Mr. Kaye was a 60-year member of the Carpenters Union, working as a foreman for various construction companies and responsible for many of the commercial buildings, churches and homes in Kitsap County. During World War II, he built gun bases in Alaska for the Howard S. Wright Co.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, William of Seabeck and John of Bremerton; one daughter, Marilyn Harris of Mill Creek; one stepdaughter, Pat Merwin of San Francisco; one sister, Arlene Schiller of Moses Lake; one stepbrother, William of Victoria; and five grandchildren, Tyler, Scott and Don Kaye, Toby Harris and Erin Richards.
A graveside service is planned for 10 a.m. Friday at Forest Lawn cemetery, with a memorial service at 1 p.m. at Evergreen Lutheran Church in Seabeck. Arrangements are by Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to Evergreen Lutheran Church, 3200 Seabeck Holly Road NW, Seabeck, WA 98380.

Bernard Buschke
Bernard E. Buschke, 72, of Port Orchard died Feb. 21, 2000, in Port Orchard of natural causes.
He was born Feb. 1, 1928, in Emmett, Idaho, to Henry G. and Mamie (Coulter) Buschke. He grew up in Emmett, graduating from Emmett High School in 1946.
He and his wife, Martha, were married in Vancouver, Wash., in 1956.
Mr. Buschke served in the Navy from 1948 until his retirement in 1976. His military honors included the Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with Three Stars and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal Combat Action Ribbon.
He worked as a machinist in Shop 38 at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for six years, retiring in 1983.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Harold of Portland, Ore., and Ronnie of Colorado; two daughters, Jenny Kirk of Portland and Becky Buschke of Montana; four stepsons, William and Harold Landon, both of Portland, and Charles and Michael Landon, both of Port Orchard; one stepdaughter, Lori Schiro of Portland; one brother, David of Emmett; 19 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation is scheduled for noon to 5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A graveside service is planned for 2 p.m. Thursday at Fraola cemetery in Olalla.

William Forrester
William Charles Forrester, 74, of Bremerton died Feb. 16, 2000, at Bremerton Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born July 9, 1925, in Walthill, Neb.
Mr. Forrester served in the Army during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
Survivors include two brothers, Elzie of El Paso, Texas, and Frank of Newton, N.J.; and three sisters, June Claypool of Valley Springs, Calif., Goldie Hixon of Bremerton and Vesta Gilbertson of Jefferson, S.D.
At his request, there will be no services. Arrangements are by Tuell-McKee of Bremerton.

Russell Christine
Russell Stanley Christine, 82, of Port Orchard died Feb. 16, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born April 19, 1917, in Shelbyville, Mo.
He served in the military.
Mr. Christine worked as a heavy equipment operator. He owned and operated a company that cleared land and performed both construction lot and driveway preparation.
He was a member of the KPN Lyons Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4990 in Vaughn.
He is survived by a son, Earl of Lakebay; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Jay.
At his request, there will be no services. Arrangements are by Tuell-McKee of Bremerton.

Frances Dixon
Frances Marie Dixon, 86, of Bainbridge Island died Feb. 18, 2000, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
She was born Oct. 18, 1913, in Seattle to Richard and Martha (Gumple) Habernal. She was raised and educated in Seattle.
Mrs. Dixon worked for the West Seattle General Hospital as a food service worker. She was then employed by the James Babysitting Service, where she worked as a nanny for 10 years.
She lived at the Winslow Arms Apartments on Bainbridge Island for 11 years.
She married Norman Dixon on Oct. 31, 1938, in Seattle. He proceeded her in death in 1979.
Survivors include two daughters, Lois Lord of Kent and Norma B. Stanphill of Hansville; one sister, Laura Lane of Seattle; seven grandchildren, Christopher and Loren Borg, Laisa Heinz, Jeff Kendall, Alison Winslow, Rebecca Boileau and David M. Gilbert; and three great-grandchildren.
She also was proceeded in death by a son, Neil, in 1980; a sister, Georgia, in 1964; a grandson, Darin Borg, in 1965; and a granddaughter, Gayge Borg, in 1988.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel, with a graveside service at 2:45 p.m. at Calvary cemetery in Seattle.

Helen Lilley
Helen Frances Lilley, 82, of Bremerton died Feb. 18, 2000.
She was born Sept. 8, 1917, in Seattle to Arthur and Harriet Holden. She grew up in Bremerton and graduated from Bremerton High School in 1935.
She retired in 1993 from her job as an administrative clerk at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center at Keyport. She also had worked as a security guard there and at the Naval Submarine Base at Bangor.
She was a member of the Alaska Yukon Pioneers.
She is survived by her longtime companion, Woodrow Wiegan; two daughters, Diana Boche of Bremerton and Sharon Pitts of Redondo; a niece, Carol Irwin of Bremerton; a sister, Evelyn Newkirk of Gig Harbor; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Smith.
A celebration of her life will take place at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the William Blaylock home, 643 Cantershire Court NE, Bremerton. Those who attend are asked to write memories to share.
Inurnment will be at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are by Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

James Thomsen
James Robert Thomsen Sr., 75, of Bainbridge Island died Feb. 17, 2000.
He was born Aug. 7, 1924, in Neosho, Mo., to Hans Jessen and Ninni Hanssen Thomsen. He grew up in Tulsa, Okla., and Walla Walla.
He married Ursula Anne Luise Kiefert in Hanover, West Germany, on March 20, 1964. They moved to Kitsap County and then to Bainbridge Island in 1968.
He joined the U.S. Merchant Marines and served for the duration of World War II. After the war, he worked as a ship's purser for 25 years. Before his retirement, he started Thomsen Tax Service, an income tax preparation service for Americans working overseas.
He also worked for the Puget Sound Pilots until 1980, when he turned his energies to a home-based business. He sold the firm and retired in 1999.
Mr. Thomsen is survived by his wife; a daughter, Christine of Shoreline; two sons, James Jr. and Bryan of Bainbridge Island; a sister, Jessie Dwyer of Auburn; and two brothers, Harry of Kirkland and Henry of Keene, Texas.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Port Madison Lutheran Church. Burial will take place in Walla Walla.
Arrangements are by Kass Funeral Home.

Holly Walker
Holly Rae Walker, 83, of Port Orchard died Feb. 17, 2000, in Bremerton.
She was born Dec. 25, 1916, in Canada to T.H. Cliff and Bessie (Brooks) Harding. She grew up in Seattle and graduated from high school there.
She attended the University of Washington and graduated from Seattle Pacific University, serving as president of the Associated Women Students in her senior year.
She was a homemaker and the wife of a United Methodist Church minister, Dr. E. Jerry Walker. They were married Nov. 10, 1941, in Seattle.
She is survived by a son, Dale Walker of England; a daughter, Barbara Walker of Port Orchard; a sister, Gladys West of Seattle; four grandchildren, Stacy Bertrang and Doug Hubred, both of Minnesota, Cory Walker of England and Eric Walker of Arizona; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and a daughter, Jan Hubred.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Chapel.

Larry Cleveland
Former Bremerton resident Lawrence W. "Larry" Cleveland, 75, of Red Bluff, Calif., died Feb. 14, 2000, in Port Orchard.
He was born July 8, 1924, in Bremerton to William and Arvella (Swan) Cleveland. He grew up in Bremerton, graduating from West High School in 1942.
Mr. Cleveland served in the Army from 1943 to 1946. He was stationed in the South Pacific.
He worked many years for the Coca-Cola Co. in Bremerton. He later worked on the John Day Dam in Oregon and for the county in Red Bluff, Calif., until his retirement in 1971. More recently, he was a caretaker for the Mount Lassen Fish Farm near Manton, Calif., returning to Bremerton this year.
Survivors include one son, William "Bill" of Bremerton; three daughters, Cynthia Russell of Tacoma and Lee "Vicki" and Dinah Cleveland, both of Bremerton; one brother, Ron of Bremerton; two sisters, Florence Johnson of Bremerton and Bonnie Arno of Montana; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Cleveland's ashes will be buried at the Tahoma National cemetery in Kent.

Thor Anderson
Thor Anderson, 94, a lifelong resident of Bainbridge Island, died Feb. 17, 2000, in Poulsbo.
He was born May 31, 1905, in Point Blakely to Otto and Ellen Anderson.
Mr. Anderson was a machinist for 33 years at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and for five years at The Boeing Co.
He was a member of Masonic Renton Lodge 29, the Machinists Union and the Blakely Island Sportsman Club.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane; and one son, Archie of Silverdale.
A graveside service is planned for 11 a.m. Thursday at Port Blakely cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kass Funeral Home on Bainbridge Island.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
