Edwin Jenkins
Edwin Marvin Jenkins, 88, of Bremerton died Feb. 15, 2000, at Bremerton Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Sept. 26, 1911, in Gooding, Idaho, to Carl and Lizzie (Arnold) Jenkins. He grew up in Gooding, graduating from high school there.
He married
Grace (Ankram) Mottinger. They had been married
35 years.
Mr. Jenkins was a welder at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 25 years, retiring in 1976. In the late 1930s, he had served in the Civilian Conservation Corps.
He was a longtime member of the Bremerton Eagles.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Gary of Poulsbo; one daughter, Kathy Zellers of Southhaven, Miss.; two stepsons, Curtis Mottinger of Tacoma and Allen Mottinger of Belfair; three stepdaughters, Sandy Petersen of Bremerton, Carol Johannson of Whidbey Island and Colette Landberg of Reno, Nev.; four sisters, Violet Green of Island City, Ore., Margaret McGhee of Eugene, Ore., Blanche Mothershed of Boise, Idaho, and Mary Ruth Estep of Gooding; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service is planned for 1 p.m. today at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel on the Hill, with interment at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Hazel Waali
Hazel Waali, 83, of Bremerton died Feb. 17, 2000, at Claremont East in Bremerton.
She was born Aug. 17, 1916, in Top, Ore., to Edgar and Bessie (Hathaway) Willoughby. She was raised and educated in North Kitsap County, graduating from North Kitsap High School in 1935.
She married
Henry Waali on June 8, 1935, in Port Orchard. They had celebrated 63 years of marriage before he preceded her in death in 1998.
Mrs. Waali was a homemaker. She had worked at Ruby's Flower Shop in Poulsbo, at Bremer's Department Store and at a pancake house in the Bremerton area.
Survivors include one son, Arvid of Everett; one daughter, Sharon Fick of Bremerton; seven grandchildren, Christy, Jaami, Darice, Shaana, Tammy, David and Danny; and four great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers and sisters.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lewis Funeral Chapel, with a reception following. Cremation was under the direction of Cherry Grove Memorial Park. Inurnment will take place at Forest Lawn cemetery.
Vida Kvinsland
Former Poulsbo resident Vida Kvinsland, 80, of State College, Pa., died Feb. 17, 2000, at The Fairways at Brookline Village in State College.
She was born June 29, 1919, in Sharon, N.D., to Sam and Annie Johnson.
She graduated from high school in Page, N.D., attending Mayville State Teacher College and New York Hairdresser Academy.
She married
Orren Kvinsland on July 25, 1946. He preceded her in death in 1995.
Mrs. Kvinsland owned and operated a beauty shop. She and her husband also owned and operated The Olympic Hotel in Poulsbo until their retirement in 1973.
She was a life member of the Sons of Norway in Poulsbo and a member of First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo.
Survivors include one daughter, Cheryl Gannon of Bellefonte, Pa.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Laurice Hayden
Laurice Lorena Hayden, 87, of Port Orchard died Feb. 10, 2000, in Bremerton.
She was born May 8, 1912, in Port Orchard to Ralph and Rena (Gorst) Siegner. She grew up there and graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1930.
She married
Charles Hayden in 1969 in Idaho. He preceded her in death in 1999.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Hayden is survived by two sons, Jim Larson of Mill Creek and Stan Larson of Bellingham; two sisters, Melba Moran of Port Orchard and Celeste Reed of Tacoma; four grandchildren, Roger and Tracy Larson, both of Bellingham, and Kathy Larsdattar Larson of Deming and Carl Larson of Seattle; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service and reception are planned for 1 p.m. Feb. 27 at Ridgemont Terrace Nursing Center, 2051 Pottery Ave. in Port Orchard. Arrangements are being handled by Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Catherine Preston
Catherine Libertina Preston, 92, of Silverdale died Feb. 13, 2000, in Silverdale of natural causes.
She was born March 7, 1907, in Onaska, S.D., to Wendlin and Magdelena (Baer) Lowenstein. She grew up in Ipswitch, S.D.
She married
Charles S. Preston in Bismarck, N.D. He preceded her in death in 1987.
Mrs. Preston was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge in Yakima.
Survivors include two sons, Charles of Port Orchard and Harvey of Bremerton; one daughter, Patricia Tobia of Toppenish; two brothers, Joseph Lowenstein of San Diego and Lawrence Lowenstein of New Orleans; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine Preston.
Visitation is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bremerton, with a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. and a reception following. A graveside service is planned for 2 p.m. Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Catherine McClintock
Catherine Delores McClintock, 75, of Port Orchard died Feb. 15, 2000, in Port Orchard of natural causes.
She was born May 5, 1924, in Eugene, Ore., to Irvin M. and Olive (Southerland) Clark. She grew up in Oakridge, Ore., graduating from Oakridge High School in 1943.
She married
Herbert McClintock on Jan. 24, 1946, in Stevenson. He preceded her in death in 1999.
Mrs. McClintock was a homemaker. Previously, she had worked as a Western Union telegraph operator in Portland, Ore.
Survivors include one son, Gary of Redmond; three daughters, Paula McClintock of Port Orchard, Dale McClintock of Vacaville, Calif., and Gail Alagna of South Colby; five brothers, Larry and Doug Clark, both of Oakridge, Jerry Clark of Cresswell, Ore., Terry Clark of Corvalis, Ore., and Ken Clark of Bremerton; two sisters, Gloria Jean of Oregon and Flora Pugh of Philomath, Ore.; nine grandchildren, Derik, Grayson, Taylor, Benicia and Reed McClintock, Sarah Nakano, Misha Severson and Arden and Elias Alagna; and two great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Ava McClintock, in 1998.
A gathering of family and friends is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at the McClintock family home in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Mabel Gaddis
Mabel Louise Gaddis, 87, of Port Orchard died Feb. 13, 2000, in Port Orchard.
She was born Nov. 27, 1912, in Clearfield, Iowa. She grew up in Beulah, Wyo., graduating from the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyo., in 1934.
She married
Leslie G. Gaddis on Sept. 28, 1939, in Glasgow, Mont. He preceded her in death in 1998.
Mrs. Gaddis had been a member of First Baptist Church of Bremerton since 1941. She served as a Cub Scout den mother for each of her three sons with Cub Scout Pack 504.
Survivors include three sons, Allan of Port Orchard, Lloyd of SeaTac and Paul of Bremerton; four grandchildren, Tracy Lynam of Port Orchard, Chad Gaddis of Woodinville, Chris Gaddis of Bonney Lake and Blair Gaddis of SeaTac. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Norma L. West.
A memorial service is planned from 11 a.m. to noon Sunday during the morning worship service at First Baptist Church of Bremerton. Interment
will take place at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Edith Bergan
Edith Marie dePuisaye Bergan, 93, of Kingston died Feb. 14, 2000, at Martha & Mary Health Care Center in Poulsbo.
She was born Oct. 28, 1906, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Seymour and Elizabeth Ann (Porter) Greene. She graduated from nursing school at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, B.C.
She was a nurse in Magnolia and in Ballard, retiring in 1975.
She was a member of the Kingston Yacht Club.
Survivors include two sons, Louis of Renton and Bob of Kingston; one daughter, Betsy Crawford of Renton; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis, in 1982.
A memorial service is planned for noon Saturday at the Kingston Yacht Club. Arrangements are under the direction of Kass Funeral Home on Bainbridge Island.
Joan Conyers
Joan Loretta Conyers, 80, of Bremerton died Feb. 15, 2000, in Bremerton.
She was born April 8, 1919, in Minneapolis to Winifrey Winfield Hearon and Melanie (Kitson) Hearon. She was raised in Helena, Mont., attending high school there.
She was a licensed practical nurse.
Survivors include three sons, Victor Messing of Bremerton, William Messing of Puyallup and Lawrence Richards of Granby, Colo.; one daughter, Loretta Messing of Henderson, Nev.; one sister, Margaret Gamble of California; one brother, Frank Hearon of Bothell; and three grandchildren.
No services are planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Paul Hintz
Former Bremerton resident Paul Mitler Hintz, 82, of Potlatch died Feb. 13, 2000, after a prolonged illness.
He was born Jan. 22, 1918, in Clyde, Ohio, moving to Bremerton in 1941.
Mr. Hintz worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and at Arden Dairy Farms before becoming self-employed in refrigeration sales and service.
Survivors include three sons, Bill of Bremerton, Jim of Fairfield, Calif., and Tom of Potlatch; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by twin daughters, Shirley and Sharon Hintz.
No services will be held. His ashes will be spread on Hood Canal. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Tuell-McKee of Bremerton.
Larry Cleveland
Lawrence W. "Larry" Cleveland, 75, of Port Orchard died Feb. 14, 2000, at his home.
He was born July 8, 1924, in Bremerton to William and Arvella (Swan) Cleveland. He grew up in Bremerton, graduating from West High School in 1942.
Mr. Cleveland entered military service in 1943, serving in the South Pacific until his discharge in 1946.
He worked many years for the Coca-Cola Company in Bremerton. He later worked on the John Day Dam in Oregon and for the county in Red Bluff, Calif., until his retirement in 1971. More recently, he was a caretaker for the Mount Lassen Fish Farm near Manton, returning to Bremerton this year.
Survivors include one son, William "Bill" of Bremerton; three daughters, Cynthia Russell of Tacoma and Vickey and Dinah Cleveland, both of Bremerton; one brother, Ron of Bremerton; two sisters, Florence Johnson of Bremerton and Bonnie Arno of Montana; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Cleveland's ashes will be buried at the Tahoma National cemetery in Kent.
Alberta Sheats
Alberta Bellerue Sheats, 83, of Poulsbo died Jan. 16, 2000, in Port Angeles after a massive stroke.
She was born Aug. 29, 1916, in Peace River Crossing, Alberta, Canada, to Victor John and Beulah (Lowen) Bellerue. She grew up in Blair, Wis., and in Pasadena, Calif. She graduated from South Pasadena High School in 1934 and from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1938.
She served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946, achieving the rank of lieutenant.
She married
Robert Carlton Sheats on Aug. 16, 1946, in Arlington, Va. He preceded her in death.
She taught elementary school in California from 1938 to 1943. From 1963 to 1990, she was a substitute teacher in the North Kitsap School District.
She was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority and the Friends of the Library in Poulsbo. She also volunteered at the Naval Undersea Museum in Keyport.
Survivors include two sons, Phillip of Pullman and Carl of Port Angeles; one sister, Mary Bellerue Reynolds of Banning, Calif.; and four grandchildren, Rebecca and Philip Sheats Jr., both of Pullman, and Bud and Tye Sheats, both of Port Angeles.
