Virginia Smith
Virginia Louise Smith, 76, of Bremerton and Gig Harbor died Feb. 12, 2000, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tacoma.
She was born July 24, 1923, in Medicine Lake, Mont., to Clifton and Louise McKenzie. She grew up in Fort Peck, Mont.
She married
William "Joe" Smith on May 30, 1942, in Fort Peck. He preceded her in death in 1996.
Mrs. Smith was a lifelong member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include four sons, Terry of Gig Harbor, Tim of Las Vegas, Tony of Mount Vernon and Patrick of San Francisco; two daughters, Kathy Guy of Gig Harbor and Kimberly Olson of Olympia; one brother, Robert McKenzie of Bellevue; four sisters, Eileen Gaffney of Bremerton, Mary Lou Kline of Williston, N.D., Shirley Souza of San Jose, Calif., and Madge Rohl of McKinleyville, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Johnathan Guy.
A funeral service is planned for 11 a.m. today at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Interment
will take place at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Alice Kelley
Alice Lloa Kelley, 78, of Bremerton died Feb. 12, 2000, in Bremerton.
She was born Dec. 31, 1921, in Wilsall, Mont., to William L. and Lillian (Marble) Baustadt. She grew up in Tacoma.
She married
Roy Kelley on June 13, 1940. He preceded her in death in 1984.
Mrs. Kelley was a homemaker. During the Vietnam War, she was a Blue Star Mother, volunteering with the Red Cross at Naval Hospital Bremerton. She was also a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
Survivors include three sons, Michael of Nevada and Patrick and Bruce, both of Bremerton; one brother, Robert Roe of Sacramento, Calif.; and six grand-children, Michael, Jennifer and Katie Kelley, all of Chicago, Kristin Henry of Everett, and Roy and Shannon Kelley, both of Oklahoma City, Okla.
A private service will be at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel on the Hill, followed by interment at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Mazie Parker
Mazie M. Parker, 79, a Bremerton resident since 1948, died Feb. 11, 2000, at Crista Shores in Silverdale.
She was born Sept. 25, 1920, in Dragon, Utah, to Margaret and Gordon Parker. She was raised Utah.
She later moved with her husband, Frank Swett, and two children to Hanford, where she lived briefly prior to moving to Bremerton. She resided in Bremerton until her death.
She was self-employed for many years as a free-lance photo colorist for Hudson Photography in Bremerton.
Ms. Parker was an artist and art teacher. She was a charter member of the Bremerton Art Guild.
Survivors include a daughter and a son, Sharell Lee and Lance Tromley, both of Bremerton; three grandsons, Mark Hatta of Bremerton, Lance Tromley Jr. of Oklahoma and Evan Tromley of California; and seven great-grandchildren.
No public service is planned. Interment
will be at Miller Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bremerton.

Virginia Pfost
Virginia Edna Pfost, 83, of Bremerton died Feb. 11, 2000, in Bremerton.
She was born March 21, 1916, in Rogerson, Idaho, to Urbert and Helen Grace (Fuller) Campbell. She was educated in Idaho.
She married
George Robb Pfost on Feb. 14, 1936, in Boise, Idaho. During World War II, the couple lived in Bremerton, where Mr. Pfost worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
Mrs. Pfost was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Donald of Pueblo, Colo., and George of Bremerton; one sister, Margaret Morgan of Hot Springs, Mont.; and two brothers, Roy Campbell of Horseshoe Bend, Idaho, and Robert McGlone of Monroe; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1990, and by a son, Richard, in 1991.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Friday at Lewis Funeral Chapel, with a reception following.

Paddy Frombach
Lorraine Patricia "Paddy" Frombach, 66, of Poulsbo died Feb. 12, 2000, at her home of melanoma cancer.
She was born Dec. 8, 1933, in Seattle to Ralph and Nonnie (Stonehocker) Stroben. She grew up in Seattle, graduating from Franklin High School in 1952.
She married
Harold Frombach on June 18, 1955, in Seattle. Mrs. Frombach was a homemaker.
She was a past member of the Poulsbo Children's Orthopedic Hospital Guild and the Sons of Norway in Poulsbo. She was a member of the Stardusters Dance Club, the Kitsap Aircraft Radio Control Society and had been a charter member of the recently formed Olympic Radio Control Association.
Survivors include her husband; one son, David of Poulsbo; one daughter, Carol Murr of Poulsbo; one brother, Ronald Stroben of Maple Valley; one sister, Mary Lou Shansby of Poulsbo; and two grandchildren, Zachary Murr and Talia Frombach, both of Poulsbo.
A celebration of her life is planned for 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Sons of Norway in Poulsbo.

Marguerite Ludwig
Marguerite E. Ludwig, 80, of Bremerton died Feb. 10, 2000, at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard.
She was born April 30, 1919, in Hampton, Neb., to William and Margaret (Bindewald) Troester. She grew up in Hampton, graduating from Aurora High School in Aurora, Neb.
She graduated from Lincoln General Hospital School of Nursing in Lincoln, Neb. She received a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Ind., and a master's degree in social work from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
She served as a lieutenant in the Army Nursing Corps during World War II, from 1944 to 1946.
She married
William J. Ludwig on Aug. 5, 1961, in Seattle.
Mrs. Ludwig worked with Family Counseling Service in Seattle and with the state of Washington at Mental Health Services in Bremerton as a social worker. She worked in private practice as a social worker in Bremerton for five years until her retirement in 1995.
She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Bremerton and the Valpo Alumni Association.
Survivors include her husband; one brother, Paul Troester of Hampton; and two sisters, Louella Otto and Willa Dee Thoen, both of Bellevue.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, with inurnment following at Ivy Green cemetery in Bremerton. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

John Armstrong
John Edward Armstrong, 53, of Suquamish died Feb. 8, 2000, in Colima, Mexico, of cardiac arrest.
He was born Dec. 4, 1946, in Bremerton to John D. and Evelyn (George) Armstrong. He grew up in Suquamish, attending North Kitsap High School.
Mr. Armstrong had been a Seattle firefighter for 19 years, serving with Station Five, Engine Four and the fire boat Chief Seattle.
He was a member of the Elks, the Eagles, the Sons of Norway and the Nordic Vikings.
He married
Vicki Giles on June 6, 1998, in Silverdale.
Survivors include his wife; one son, John of Fort Towson, Okla.; one daughter, Rondi Webb of Fort Towson; three brothers, Robert Lamont of Kingston, Jim Bob of Indianola and Bennie of Suquamish; two sisters, Orlene Lamont of Suquamish and Joanne Collins of Edmonton Alberta, Canada; his grandparents, Bennie George of Port Gamble and Martha George of Suquamish; and two grandchildren, Shaun and Austen Webb, both of Fort Towson.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Suquamish Tribal Center.

Ruth Perry
Ruth Jenel Perry, 43, of Tahuya died Feb. 10, 2000, in a car accident.
She was born July 1, 1956, in Bakersfield, Calif., to Nick and Jewel (Strickland) Lopez. She grew up in San Jose, Calif.
She married
Bruce Perry on March 15, 1975, at Moffet Field Naval Air Station in Mountain View, Calif.
She had worked as a home care provider for Catholic Community Services for 10 years.
Mrs. Perry is survived by her husband; a son, Eric Lopez of Santa Clara, Calif.; two daughters, Jessica Perry of Bremerton and Jennifer Crowley of Port Orchard; a sister, Treva Lopez Jones of Paso Robles, Calif.; and one grandchild, Deondre Perry of Bremerton.
Visitation will start at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Rill Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at Rill Chapel.
Burial will be at Twin Firs cemetery.
Laurice Hayden
Laurice Lorena Hayden, 87, of Port Orchard died Feb. 10, 2000, in Bremerton.
She was born May 8, 1912, in Port Orchard to Ralph and Rena (Gorst) Siegner. She grew up there and graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1930.
She married
Charles Hayden in 1969 in Idaho. He preceded her in death in 1999.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Hayden is survived by two sons, Kim Larson of Mill Creek and Stan Larson of Bellingham; two sisters, Melba Moran of Port Orchard and Celeste Reed of Tacoma; four grandchildren, Roger and Tracy Larson, both of Bellingham, and Kathy Larsdattar Larson-Deming and Carl Larson, both of Seattle; and four great-grandchildren.
Service arrangements are pending. Arrangements are being handled by Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Ronald Singleton
Ronald James Singleton, 70, of Kingston died Feb. 11, 2000, at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle.
He was born Nov. 13, 1929, in Seattle to Harold and Barbara (Patterson) Singleton. He was raised there and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1947.
He enlisted in the Navy in 1951 and served until 1956. He served in Korea and received the Korean Service Medal with one star and the United Nations Service Medal.
He had worked for the North Kitsap School District for 10 years.
He is survived by two daughters, Terri Murphy of Friendswood, Texas, and Kelly Schuman of Portland, Ore.; and nine grandchildren, Kara and Karine Huff, Gabe and Leah Schuman, Megan and Shannon Murphy, and Sean, Christopher and Shannon Singleton.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Stone Chapel. Cremation will follow at Cherry Grove Memorial Park.
Walter Reese
Walter W. Reese, 87, of Bremerton died Feb. 11, 2000, of heart failure.
He was born March 17, 1912, in Chehalis to Fannie and William Reese. He was raised in Chehalis.
He retired from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in 1980 and was a member of the First Christian Church.
He is survived by a daughter, Shirlyn Busacker of Seattle; a sister, Goldie Johnston of Chehalis; two grandchildren, Shawn Busacker of Renton and Sabrina Dideon of Renton; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita (Corbett) Reese.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
