Esther Bogert
Esther E. Bogert, 67, of Port Orchard died Jan. 29, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born March 27, 1932, in Bismarck, N.D., to Walter and Eunice (Hannah) Walden. She grew up in North Dakota.
She married Leo Bogert on Dec. 4, 1949, in North Dakota.
Mrs. Bogert was the bookkeeper for her husband's auto sales business, L&E Auto Sales, until 1979.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Bonnie Arter; two grandchildren, Dawn Deitchler and Jon Pykonen, both of Port Orchard; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel on the Hill. A funeral service is planned for 2 p.m. Thursday, also at Miller-Woodlawn, with entombment following at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Memorial donations may be made to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, P.O. Box 19024, Seattle, WA 98109.

Queenie Hudgens
Queenie May Hudgens, 90, of Renton died Jan. 28, 2000, in Renton of natural causes. She lived in the Bremerton and Poulsbo areas from 1965 to 1998.
She was born May 1, 1909, in Morton to Andrew and Maud (Keene) Scott. She grew up in Morton, attending Lewis County schools.
She married Archie Hudgens in June 1965 in Las Vegas. He preceded her in death in 1980.
Mrs. Hudgens was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Eagles and the Elks, the Retired Officers Wives Club, the Children's Orthopedic Guild, the Senior Citizen's Club of Poulsbo and Business and Professional Women. She was a charter member of Liberty Bay Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by a sister, Minnie Lindsley, of Renton.
Visitation is scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel on the Hill. A funeral service is planned for 1 p.m. Friday at Liberty Bay Presbyterian Church in Poulsbo, with interment following at 2:30 p.m. in Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Memorial donations may be made to Liberty Bay Presbyterian Church, Highway 305 and Harrison Ave, Poulsbo, WA 98370.

Joyce Orsborn
Longtime Bremerton resident Joyce L. Orsborn, 71, of Council, Idaho, died Jan. 26, 2000, in Council of lung cancer.
She was born April 14, 1928, in Port Townsend to Charles and Martha (Bailey) McClanahan. She grew up in Quilcene, graduating from Quilcene High School in 1946.
She married Clair Orsborn on March 11, 1946, in Seattle.
Survivors include her husband; four sons, Doug of Port Townsend, Gary of Seattle, Dan of Bremerton and Brian of Quilcene; one daughter, Jennifer of Florida; two sisters, Treva Berg of Silverdale and Ellen Malloux of Bothell; and nine grandchildren, Brandy, Tara and Erin, all of Bremerton, Jeremy and Steven, both of Belfair, Stephanie and Tracy, both of Port Townsend, Mindy of Council, and Matthew of Florida. She was preceded in death by a son, Mike.
A private graveside service is planned for 2 p.m. today at the Quilcene cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Pathway Hospice, Holy Rosary, 323 W. Idaho Ave., Ontario, OR 97914.

Frederick Godsalve
Frederick John Godsalve, 70, of Silverdale died Jan. 29, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born May 30, 1929, in Butte, Mont., to William and Beatrice (Willoughby) Godsalve. He was raised and educated in Montana. He lived in St. Louis and in Seattle before moving to Kitsap County in 1971.
Mr. Godsalve served in the Air Force from 1946 to 1949.
He married Dolores Stohldrier on March 19, 1949, in Maplewood, Mo.
He had worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a general foreman in the reactor plant, retiring in 1989.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Rick of Seattle, Jim of Poulsbo and Bill of Seabeck; three daughters, Terry Weeden of Shelton, Patty Godsalve of Silverdale and Robyn Morrissey of Seattle; one brother, Bill of Seattle; two sisters, Lorraine Tomich of Seattle and Phyllis Oliphant of Sumner; and 13 grandchildren.
Private graveside services will be held at Forest Lawn cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Kitsap Unit, P.O. Box 2383, Bremerton, WA 98310.

Johnnie Strand
Johnnie Delma Strand, 82, of Tacoma died Jan. 31, 2000, at Tacoma General Hospital.
Survivors include one son, Keith Fullen of Port Orchard; one daughter, Johnnie Price of Tacoma; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Master Sgt. Loren Strand, USMC; a son, Allen Beck; a grandson, Zane; and a great-grandson.
Visitation is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Haven of Rest Funeral Home in Gig Harbor, with a funeral service following at 2 p.m. Interment icon will take place at Haven of Rest Memorial Park.

Richard Tucker
Richard E. Tucker, 75, of Gig Harbor died Jan. 24, 2000, at Tacoma General Hospital.
He was born in Graton, Calif., on March 30, 1924. He graduated from South Kitsap High School and attended the University of Washington.
Mr. Tucker served in the Army during World War II in England and Germany. He retired from the United States Customs Service in 1979.
He was a member of the Iris Society.
Survivors include two sisters, Alice Bowman of Bremerton and Lois Prather of Port Orchard.
At his request, there will be no services.
Arrangements are under the direction of Haven of Rest in Gig Harbor.

Kenneth Hansen
Kenneth S. Hansen, 81, of Grapeview died Nov. 23, 2001, in Shelton.
He was born March 8, 1920, in Everett to J.C.J. Sofus and Laura J. (Byrd) Hansen. He graduated from Irene S. Reed High School in Shelton.
He married Melba C. Terpening on Oct. 15, 1955, in Billings, Mont.
Mr. Hansen served in the Army from 1942 to 1946, achieving the rank of sergeant. He was affiliated with the 222nd Infantry, part of the Rainbow Division formed by Gen. Douglas MacArthur.
He later was a marine machinist at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 25 years, retiring in 1980.
Mr. Hansen was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and Allyn Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Kent B. of Grapeview; two daughters, Clareen L. Reed of Grapeview and Cherie Nettles of Fox Island; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry Hansen and Ted Byrd.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at Allyn Baptist Church, 221 E. Lakeland Drive. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Coop Cooper
Albert Edwin "Coop" Cooper, 88, of Bainbridge Island died Oct. 18, 2001, at his home.
He was born in December 1912 in Urichsville, Ohio, to Albert and Dora Cooper. He was a 1931 graduate of Bainbridge High School.
He married Mildred Prenatt in September 1937.
Mr. Cooper worked in the shipyards, both on Bainbridge Island and in Seattle. He retired in 1975 as a superintendent of the Washington State Shipyard for ferries in Eagle Harbor.
He was a 50-year member of the Bainbridge Island Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife; his twin brother, Jim of Bainbridge Island; a son, Don of Maple Valley; two daughters, Gail Kimmel of Poulsbo and Cheryl Boyce of Bainbridge Island; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Masonic memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kane Masonic cemetery on Lafayette Street on Bainbridge Island. The service is open to the public.
A reception will follow at the family home at the head of Eagle Harbor on Bainbridge Island.

Bear Scott
J. Lloyd "Bear" Scott, 62, of Port Orchard died of natural causes Nov. 26, 2001, in Bremerton.
He was born Sept. 17, 1939, in Redondo Beach, Calif., to Lloyd and Dorothy (Clewett) Scott. He graduated in 1957 from Miracosta High School in Redondo Beach.
He married JoAnn Forney on Dec. 19, 1981, in Las Vegas. She preceded him in death in 1998.
Mr. Scott was an independent commercial truck driver for 27 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Teamsters Union. He also was a substitute bus driver with the South Kitsap School District for four years.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and auto racing.
Survivors include a son, Mike Straight of Port Orchard; six daughters, Lynnette Lee of Port Orchard, Shawn Ornberg of Bremerton, Connie Richardson of Lake Tahoe, Nev., Cheryl Reed and Jane Young, both of Las Vegas, and Katie Carter of Woodinville; a brother, William Cooper of Anaheim, Calif.; a sister, Linda Martin of Victorville, Calif.;
12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, followed by a funeral service, all at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. Private interment will be at Riverview cemetery in Oroville.

Dick Francis
Homer Richard "Dick" Francis, 87, of Bainbridge Island died Nov. 24, 2001, at Messenger House on Bainbridge Island.
He was born Feb. 9, 1914, in Joplin, Mo., to Arthur and Lillian (Cox) Francis. He attended Lewistown High School in Lewistown, Mont.
Mr. Francis was a private in the Army from 1943 to 1946.
He married Iona Jensen on Dec. 23, 1946, in Seattle.
Mr. Francis later was an automobile mechanic for 50 years before retiring.
He was a member of Eagles Aerie 1 in Seattle, the Rotary Club on Bainbridge Island and Eagle Harbor Congregational Church on Bainbridge Island.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Bonnie June of Savannah, Ga.; a brother, Harry of Cody, Wyo.; one grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Eagle Harbor Congregational Church.

Sidney Lofthus
Sidney Lofthus, 71, of Silverdale died Nov. 6, 2001, at Washington Veterans Home in Retsil.
He was born Sept. 13, 1930, in Highlanding, Minn., to Oscar and Signe (Brekke) Lofthus. He attended school in Bagley, Minn.
He served in the Army as a medic during the Korean War.
He worked at Haselwood Buick from the early 1960s until he retired.
Sidney enjoyed music and playing the guitar.
Survivors include three sons, Scott of Lacey, Sidney Jr. and Randy, both of Silverdale; four brothers, Thelman of Bagley, Julian of Polson, Mont., Mel of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Obert of Plains, Mont.; four sisters, Edna Siegert of Bremerton, Violet Berentsen of Seabeck, Gloria Amunrud of Spokane and Arlene Kegley of Poulsbo; and one granddaughter, Brittany. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Andor and Melvin.
A memorial service was held Nov. 13 at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. Interment icon was at Washington Veteran's cemetery.
