Annie Templeton
Annie M. Templeton, 79, of Bremerton died Nov. 23, 2001, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center.
She was born Oct. 2, 1922, in Fouke, Ark., to Leo and Tola (Fant) Miller.
She married
Paul Jones Templeton on May 4, 1937, in Fouke. He preceded her in death in 1987.
She was a member of Eastern Star and enjoyed vegetable gardening, ceramics and spending time with children.
She attended Eastgate Assembly of God.
Survivors include two sons, Tommy of University Place and Julius of Bremerton; three daughters, Nancy Conway and Starla Smith, both of Bremerton, and Rebecca David of Redlands, Calif.; a brother, Kenneth Miller of Rosedale; two sisters, Joyce Boyer of Denton, Texas, and Bobbie Jean Browning of Monroe, La.; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at Eastgate Assembly of God in Bremerton. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Howard Finn
Howard R. Finn, 78, of Bremerton died of cancer Nov. 23, 2001, in Bremerton.
He was born March 26, 1923, in Bremerton to Howard and Francis Finn. He graduated from high school in Bremerton.
He married
Eleanor Howell on Oct. 2, 1956, in Bremerton.
He served in the Navy and was an engineering technician at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for many years, retiring in 1978.
He was a member of the Elks and enjoyed travel.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Cecil of Washington and Gerald of Troutdale, Ore.; two daughters, Diana Adair of Woodstock, Va., and Linda Brock of Renton; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Elks Lodge on Pine Road.

Myrtle Smith
Myrtle V. Smith, 90, of Bremerton died Nov. 24, 2001, at Ridgemont Terrace.
She was born June 2, 1911, in Forness, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Walter and Sarah (Burke) Venning.
She married
Leonard C. Smith on June 30, 1929. He preceded her in death in 1985.
She was a homemaker and a past president of the Bremerton Lady Eagles 192.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Walter and Bev Smith of Port Orchard; three grandchildren, Sandie Gibson of Kirkland, David Smith of Olalla and Lisa Moses of Port Orchard; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Barbara Spees
Barbara G. Spees, 84, of Bremerton died Nov. 15, 2001, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center.
She was born Aug. 7, 1917, in Big Sandy, Mont., to Ernest and Georgiana (Anderson) Lundeen. She graduated in 1935 from Union A High School in Kirkland.
She married
Murel Spees on July 23, 1939. He preceded her in death in 1988.
She was a bookkeeper for 31 years, retiring in 1987.
She was a volunteer with Ryther Orphanage and enjoyed reading.
Mrs. Spees is survived by a son, Gary of Bremerton; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Central Kitsap Presbyterian Church.

Shirley Rebbe
Shirley Lee Rebbe, 79, of Bremerton died Nov. 20, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Sept. 15, 1922, in Mulberry, Kan., to George and Mable (Lynch) Schenck. She graduated from a Fort Scott, Kan., high school in 1940 and also attended college there.
She married
Howard Rebbe on Feb. 14, 1949, in Bremerton.
Mrs. Rebbe worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 10 years. While at PSNS, she was awarded the Federal Service Award of Merit by the Tacoma Area Federal Executive Association.
Mrs. Rebbe had been active with Rainbow Girls, Campfire Girls, Girl Scouts, a Navy officers' wives organization and the PTA (earning the Golden Acorn Award). She had been active in repairing hundreds of dolls that firefighters gave to needy children.
Survivors include her husband; a sister, Wanda Karst of Kingston; two grandchildren, Stephanie Day and Kimberly Uhlbright; and three great-grandchildren, Candice, Haley and Cheyenne. She was preceded in death by her only child, Gretchen Spence, in 1998.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. Entombment will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Ruth Phelps
Ruth Viola Phelps, 78, of Poulsbo died of cancer Nov. 20, 2001, at Martha & Mary Health Care Center.
She was born Dec. 15, 1922, in Union Deposit, Pa., to David and Bessie (Fittery) Koons. She graduated from Annsville High School.
She was married
to Percy Phelps, who preceded her in death.
She was in the Navy during World War II and earned a medal for good conduct. She was a secretary for the rest of her career.
Mrs. Phelps was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Vinland Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her niece, Charlene Kremer of Tennessee.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Forest Lawn cemetery, 5409 Kitsap Way, Bremerton.

Bernice B. Brown
Bernice B. Brown, 87, of Bremerton died of cancer Nov. 22, 2001, at Belmont Terrace.
She was born June 10, 1914, in Brewster to John Bassett and Jesse Rennitt. She graduated from Broadway High School.
She married
Gustauvus Brown on June 9, 1946. He preceded her in death in 1981.
Mrs. Brown worked in the federal civil service with the Navy until she retired in 1979.
She enjoyed fishing, bowling, traveling and reading. Survivors include one son, Lew Herndon of California; one sister, Marianne Myers of Portland, Ore.; four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Lewis Funeral Chapel, 5303 Kitsap Way, Bremerton.

Opal Walter
M. "Opal" Walter, 91, of Port Orchard died Nov. 22, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Sept. 3, 1910, in Anselmo, Neb., to Fred and Mabel (Lindly) Anderson. She graduated from Anselmo High School and attended college in Nebraska.
She married
Marion Crumrine in June 1931 in Merna, Neb. They were later divorced, and he preceded her in death.
She married
George Walter in July 1939 in Greeley, Colo. He preceded her in death in 1983.
Mrs. Walter taught school in Nebraska for two years. She later worked as an addressograph operator with the Kitsap County Assessor's Office for 17 years, retiring in 1972.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the American Legion Auxiliary and South Colby United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Donald Walter of Port Orchard and Carl Walter of Humble, Texas; two brothers, Robert Anderson of Nebraska and Raymond Anderson of Joplin, Mo.; two sisters, Leota Cantrell of Boise, Idaho, and Doris Wilmoth of Merna; 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A graveside service follows at 2 p.m. at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at South Colby United Methodist Church.

Ruth Spotswood
Ruth Spotswood, 87, of Bremerton died of Parkinson's disease Nov. 16, 2001, at an adult-care home.
She was born Ruth Schoemann on April 21, 1914, in Germany. She became a naturalized citizen of the United States on Sept. 1, 1959.
She married
George Merle Spotswood on Feb. 6, 1957, in Erding, Bavaria, West Germany. He preceded her in death in 1991.
She worked as a registered nurse in Germany, Idaho and Washington state. She retired from nursing in 1982.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel. Private inurnment will be at Forest Lawn cemetery in Bremerton.
Dee Dee Spurling
Danidea "Dee Dee" D. Spurling, 77, of Poulsbo died Nov. 14, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Jan. 27, 1924, in Bonesteel, S.D., to Daniel and Desa (White) Turney. She graduated from Bonesteel High School.
She married
Lloyd R. Ruzicka on May 1, 1943. He preceded her in death in 1973.
She married
her second husband, Russell L. Spurling, on Dec. 28, 1974, and moved to Poulsbo. He preceded her in death in 1985.
She was a training supervisor at Bell Telephone Co. for six years.
Mrs. Spurling was a volunteer for Senior Outreach Support Center, Family Kitchen, Fishline and Faith Episcopal Church. She enjoyed bird watching, square dancing, fishing and cooking.
Survivors include two sons, Russell of Poulsbo and Jeffrey Ruzicka; a daughter, Kim Peckham of Bremerton; a brother, Don Turney of Arizona; four granddaughters, Jenny and Lindsay Matlock, and Amanda and Nicolle Peckham; and two grandsons. She also was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Toni Lynn, and six sisters.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Dec. 1 at Faith Episcopal Church, 26096 W. First St., Kingston (Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall).

Albert Allen
Albert F. Allen, 81, of Bremerton died Nov. 20, 2001, in Bremerton.
He was born Nov. 30, 1919, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Ora Max and Evangeline (Robinson) Allen. He was educated in Pocatello.
He was a master sergeant in the Army during World War II and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and Asiatic Pacific Service Medal.
He married
Helen Mower on Jan. 24, 1945, in Pocatello.
He was a machinist at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for many years, retiring in 1977.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Mr. Allen was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Frank of Silverdale and Mike of Bremerton; two daughters, Patricia Creech of Bremerton and Denise Case of Belfair; two brothers, Max and Alfred, both of Pocatello; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Katherine Mickleson, Alta May Crackenberg, Evangeline Newman and Violet Winters.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Tahoma National cemetery.
