Vivian Mattson Conner
Vivian C. Mattson Conner, 81, of Port Orchard died Nov. 2, 2001.
She was born Jan. 6, 1920, in Astoria, Ore., to Emil and Katherine (Erickson) Mattson. She graduated from Knappa High School in Knappa, Ore., in 1938.
She married
Allen H. Conner on April 8, 1942, in Seattle. He preceded her in death last year.
Mrs. Conner was a homemaker. She enjoyed flower gardening and beachcombing.
Survivors include a son, Richard of San Jose, Calif.; three daughters, Colleen Huff of Spokane, Kathy Longthorpe of Normandy Park and Kelly Greene Diebolt of Port Orchard; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She also was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeff Stockler, of Federal Way.
Services are private with inurnment in Svensen, Ore. Arrangements are by Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral at Rill Chapel.

Stanley Jones
Stanley E. Jones, 66, of Port Orchard died of cancer Nov. 2, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born March 19, 1935, in Los Angeles to Elmer and Alice (Benton) Jones. He graduated from Rosemead High School in Rosemead, Calif., in 1952 and from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, Calif., in 1956.
He married
Mary Ogletree on July 18, 1959, in Coronado, Calif.
Mr. Jones served in the Marine Corps from 1957 to 1978, achieving the rank of lieutenant colonel. He was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Commendation.
He later was a stock broker with Shearson Lehman for 10 years and a farmer for 20 years.
Mr. Jones was a board member of the Conservation District of Kitsap County. He was the recipient of the 1995 Wildlife Farm of the Year award.
Survivors include his wife; his mother of Port Orchard; a son, Clay of Port Orchard; one daughter, Jennifer Jones-Allen of Indianola; one brother, Vernon of Yorba Linda, Calif.; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.
A celebration of life will be from noon to 5 p.m. Nov. 18 at the family farm in Port Orchard. Arrangements are by Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Marie McKnight
Evelyn "Marie" McKnight, 90, of Port Orchard died of natural causes Oct. 30, 2001, at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard. Mrs. McKnight also had been a resident of Bremerton.
She was born Oct. 7, 1911, in Waterville to Jefferson and Nellie Fellers. She graduated from Cottonwood High School in Cottonwood, Idaho, in 1930 and attended Spokane Business College.
She married
A. Warren McKnight on Sept. 18, 1932, in Port Orchard. He preceded her in death in 1981.
Mrs. McKnight was a homemaker. She was a past president of the Daughters of Union Vets for the state of Washington. She enjoyed bowling and loved animals.
Survivors include three nieces, Carolyn Frankhouser of Mercer Island, Pat Rudebusch of Olympia and Mary Lou Harmon of El Paso, Texas; three nephews, Harold Nelson of Douglas, Frank Hagen of Las Vegas, Nev., and Jim Ellis of Lompoc, Calif.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Ridgemont Terrace. Private inurnment will be held at a later date in Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Jon Bottoms
Jon Denison Bottoms, 54, of Suquamish died of cancer Nov. 4, 2001, in Suquamish.
He was born May 5, 1947, in San Francisco to Jack and Allyn (Moyer) Bottoms. He graduated in 1965 from high school in Honolulu, and attended the Seattle Art Institute.
He served in the Navy from 1966 to 1969.
He married
Marie Partridge on Dec. 27, 1989, in Kitsap County.
He worked as a free-lance graphic artist and cartoonist for the Juneau Weekly News in Juneau, Alaska. He also enjoyed designing sets and posters for theatre and ballet companies.
Survivors include his wife of Suquamish; his father of San Mateo, Calif; three sons, Michael Jon Coty of Seattle, Amado P. Reyes of Suquamish and Richard M. Reyes of Juneau; a daughter, Teresa Germaine of Juneau; a brother, David Malcolm of Palo Alto, Calif; a sister, Jaye Allyn Petrick of Los Angeles; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Old Man House in Suquamish.

Howard Harding
Howard E. Harding, 70, of Bremerton died of a heart attack Oct. 27, 2001, at his home.
He was born March 3, 1931, in Britton, S.D., to Vern and Inez Harding.
He served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1971, achieving the rank of staff sergeant first class. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.
He later was a flight mechanic for 20 years, retiring in 1971.
Survivors include a brother, William of Bremerton; three sisters, Janet Bundy of Bremerton, Madonna Beach of Port Orchard and Gail Lehr of New Jersey; two grandchildren, Thomas Smith of Port Orchard and Debbie Smith of Bremerton; and three great-grandchildren, Trever Smith of Vancouver, B.C., Raymond Sampson of Bremerton and Arianna Devito of Port Orchard. He was preceded in death by a son, Perry, in 1989; a daughter, Glenda Sarich, in 1999; and a sister, Annabelle McCloughlin, in 1977.
A private memorial service is planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Kitsap Cremation and Burial Society.
Betty DeWitt
Betty L. DeWitt, 75, of Bremerton died Nov. 4, 2001, at Bremerton Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Dec. 29, 1925, in Bremerton to Libby (Newell) Gill. She graduated from Bremerton High School in 1944.
She married
C.E. "Mike" DeWitt on Jan. 27, 1945, in Bremerton. He preceded her in death in 1987.
She served in the Naval Reserves from 1943 to 1944.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family and especially her great-grandchildren. She was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include a son, John M. "Jack"; two grandchildren, Jennifer Masterson and Denise Hanks, both of Bremerton; and four great-grandchildren, Jed Hanks, Nathan May-Masterson, Ashlyn Hanks and Damon Masterson.
At her request, no services will be held. Arrangements are by Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Dean Kettner
Dean Stephen Kettner, 75, of Bremerton died Nov. 3, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Sept. 10, 1926, in Green Bay, Wis., to Stephen and Mary (Mead) Kettner. He graduated from Rhinelander High School in Rhinelander, Wis., in 1943.
He married
Joanne Nelson on Oct. 24, 1964, in Rhinelander.
Mr. Kettner served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946 as an aviation ordnanceman third class. He was awarded the Philippine Liberation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
He later worked in civil service with the Air Force at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska, operating and repairing tramways on remote radar sites.
He then became a machinist, working in Shop 06 at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard until his retirement as a maintenance foreman in 1990. His civil service career spanned 30 years.
Mr. Kettner was a member of American Legion Post 68 in Bremerton. He also was a life member of the Elks in Bremerton.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Mark of Ocean Springs, Miss., Brian of Bremerton and Tim of Shirley, Mass.; two sisters, Mary Kienitz of Rhinelander and Elizabeth Eade of Bowling Green, Ky.; and three grandchildren, Nick, Bret and Haley Kettner.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park with arrangements under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Wendell Weger
Wendell Edward Cecil Weger, 33, of Tacoma died Nov. 2, 2001, in Seattle.
He was born March 4, 1968, in Tacoma to Roger and Janice "Jan" (Hess) Weger. He had attended South Kitsap High School.
Mr. Weger enjoyed music and dirt bike motorcycling.
He was a member of the Catholic church.
Survivors include his parents, Roger and Jan Weger of Sequim; one brother, Barry of Manchester; two sisters, Tammy Weger-Wiedmaier of Port Orchard and Gina Wingo of Kirkland; four nephews; and two nieces.
Visitation will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tacoma, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass, also at the church. Interment
will be at Calvary cemetery in Tacoma. Arrangements are under the direction of Gaffney Cassedy Allen and Buckley King.
Iolani Kaaukai
Iolani Priscilla Kaaukai, 61, of Bremerton died Nov. 1, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Dec. 29, 1939, in Hilo, Hawaii. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in Hilo.
She married
Thomas Kaaukai in Hilo.
Mrs. Kaaukai worked in health care. She was a member of Apostolic Life Tabernacle in Bremerton.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Derek Kaaukai of Maui, Hawaii; two daughters, Karlene Anderson of Bremerton and Corlette Collette of Hilo; and eight grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Apostolic Life Tabernacle, 1248 Ninth St. A funeral service follows at 10 a.m. also at the tabernacle. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Ken McGregor
Kenneth J. "Ken" McGregor, 70, of Allyn died of lung and bone cancer Nov. 5, 2001, in Port Orchard.
He was born Aug. 20, 1931, in Wenatchee to Arthur and Beryl (Maxwell) McGregor. He attended high school in Leavenworth and Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake.
He served in the Navy from 1950 to 1954.
He married
Grace McNitt on Feb. 3, 1968, in Ephrata.
He enjoyed blacksmithing and golf.
Survivors include his stepmother, Myrtle (McGregor) Bruce of Leavenworth; four sons, Stephen Horsfall of Las Vegas, Russell Horsfall of Lynnwood, Larry Horsfall, Tacoma and John Horsfall of Mountlake Terrace; a daughter, Theresa Trent of San Jose; two brothers, Keith of Allyn and Malcolm of Salem, Ore.; a sister, Betty Tumblin of East Wenatchee; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and his first wife, Zola (Leopard) McGregor.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Wayne Stewart
Wayne E. Stewart, 81, of Bremerton died Nov. 2, 2001, at Northwood Lodge in Silverdale.
He was born Feb. 4, 1920, in Spokane to Walter and Sarah (Lape) Stewart. He graduated from West Seattle High School in 1938 and from Olympic College.
Mr. Stewart married
Evelyn "Betty" Benson on June 5, 1942, in West Seattle.
He served as a radio technician in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946.
He later worked as an engineer with Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 32 years before retiring in 1972.
Mr. Stewart was a member of Gideons International and Hard Hats for Christ.
He was a member of the Navy Yard Bible Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, David of Bremerton, Ed of Seattle and Michael of Sandia Park, N.M.; two daughters Judy Kemp of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Naomi Haynes of Salem, Ore.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Navy Yard City Bible Church. He will be interred at Bethel cemetery in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
