James Coon
James A. Coon, 51, of Port Orchard died Oct. 27, 2001, in Port Angeles.
He was born Oct. 10, 1950, in Battle Creek, Mich., to John and Jorgine (Stuvland) Coon.
He graduated in 1968 from Sultan High School in Sultan.
He married
Kathy A. Hanson on Dec. 18, 1970, in Everett.
He was a land surveyor with Kitsap County Engineering Dept. in Port Orchard, for 23 years.
He enjoyed fishing and boating.
Survivors include a son, Ben of Bellingham; a daughter, Jody Enriquez of McCleary; a brother, John of Monroe; and a grandson, Jacob.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Long Lake Community Center.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Bill Marsh
William O. "Bill" Marsh, 87, of Poulsbo died Oct. 22, 2001, in Poulsbo.
He was born Sept. 17, 1914, in Pontotoc, Texas, to William and Mary Lou Marsh. He was educated in Hardin, Mont.
He served in the Navy from 1934 to 1938 and again from 1942 to 1966. He was a chief warrant officer and earned the World War II Victory Medal and the American Defense Medal.
He married
his wife, Pat, in 1940 in Los Angeles. She died in 1994.
He was a member of the Retired Officers Assoc. and the Fleet Reserve Assoc.
He was a Christian.
Survivors include a son, Bill of Poulsbo; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Arlis.
Inurnment will be in Chico, Calif.
Rita Hunt
Rita L. Hunt, 94, of Bremerton died Oct. 25, 2001, at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard.
She was born April 23, 1907, in Oregon City, Ore., to Calvin and Grace (Straucer) Price. She attend in Willamette, Ore.
She married
Leigh Hunt in July of 1929 in Portland. He preceded her in death in 1986.
She was the owner of Oyster House Restaurant for 20 years, retiring in 1965.
In her early years, she performed in vaudeville plays and medicine shows. She also enjoyed fly fishing.
She was a Protestant.
She is survived by a daughter, Lerita Watson of Bremerton; three grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel at 11 a.m. Friday. The funeral will follow at noon.

Herman Remick
The Rev. Herman W. Remick, 89, of Bremerton died Oct. 26, 2001, in Bremerton.
He was born Feb. 11, 1912, in Eliot, Maine, to Frank and Minnie (Rowe) Remick. He was educated in New Hampshire.
He married
Thelma Rowe on June 1, 1938, in Eliot.
He served in the Navy reserve from 1943 to 1946.
Mr. Remick was a machinist at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 30 years, retiring in 1962.
He enjoyed religious ministry work and gardening.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Daniel of Panama City, Fla.; a daughter, Sylvia Peterson of Bremerton; two sisters, Alice Byers of Kittery, Maine, and Doris Crowley, of Portsmouth, N.H.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara J.; a son, Edward W.; two infant children; three brothers, Irvin, Norman and Frank; and a sister, Ethel Devore.
A graveside service and inurnment will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Neil Goff
Neil Wesley Goff, 52, of Port Orchard died of pancreatic cancer Oct. 29, 2001, at home.
He was born March 4, 1949, in Mishawaka, Ind., to Wesley and Jane (Myers) Goff. He was educated in California. He graduated in 1968 from Irvington High School in Fremont, Calif., and in 1971 from San Diego City College.
He married
Donna Jane Byrne on June 15, 1997, in Lake Tahoe, Nev.
He was head custodian at Orchard Heights Elementary school for 18 years.
He was a member of the North Mason Eagles 4226 and enjoyed camping and traveling by recreational vehicle.
Survivors include his mother of San Mateo, Calif.; his wife; two daughters, Holly Goff and Gail Updegrove, both of Port Orchard; a brother, Paul C. of Hanford, Calif; a sister, Karen of San Mateo; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Friday at the Goff residence. Arrangements are under the direction of Kitsap Cremation and Burial Society.

Max Killinger
Max T. Killinger, 78, of Port Orchard died from complications of lung cancer Oct. 25, 2001, in Port Orchard.
He was born May 6, 1923, in Redfield, S.D., to Charles and Theora (Upchurch) Killinger.
He served in the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1945.
He married
Lavina Belle Forester on Dec. 28, 1970, in Kennewick.
He was a machinist for Battelle Northwest and Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 44 years, retiring in 1985.
He enjoyed sailing and travelling and was a member of the Port Orchard Yacht Club.
He was a Christian.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert Hadley of Woodinville, and Kim Hadley of Tacoma; two daughters, Alicia Sanders of Payette, Idaho, and Vicki Hadley of Washington; a brother, Charles "Buck" Killinger of Grapeview; four grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Karl Killinger; and a brother, John Killinger.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. Graveside service and interment will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Lane cemetery.

Jack Frost
Climuth "Jack" E. Frost, 75, of Bremerton, died Oct. 26, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Dec. 9, 1925, in Dardanelle, Ark., to William and Maudie (Brown) Frost. He attended Columbia High School in Columbia, La.
He married
Irene E. Hall on May 25, 1946, in Plaquemine, La.
He served in the Navy during World War II as a gunner's mate first class.
He worked for International Construction as an operating engineer for 36 years, retiring in 1981.
He was a member of the Shriners Club.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Carl E. Frost, of Natick, Mass., two daughters, Carol E. Frost, of Bremerton and Pamela A. Frost of Amboy, Wash; two sisters, Mabel of Plaquemine, La., and June of Granbury, Texas; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth and Gaynelle and two brothers, William F. Jr. and Carl.
Visitation is scheduled at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. The funeral will follow at 1 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Ralph Hargrave
Ralph Leroy Hargrave, 88, died Oct. 28, 2001, at his Port Ludlow residence.
He was born June 4, 1913, in Sprague, Wash., to James and Nora (Lytle) Hargrave. He graduated in 1931 from Sprague High School and attended college in Eastern Washington.
He served in the Navy as a radarman and achieved the World War II Victory Medal Asiatic Pacific Campaign.
He married
Martha Stockman on Aug. 25, 1940, in Ritzville.
He was a home-builder for 43 years, retiring in 1975.
He enjoyed volunteering for Habitat For Humanity. He also enjoyed hunting.
He was a Lutheran.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael Hargrave of Anchorage, Alaska; two daughters, Kristi Kitchens of Poulsbo and Marilyn Huntsinger of Tigard, Ore.; a sister, Cecil Mason of Olympia; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Hargrave; and two sisters, Marie and Elsie.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Chimacum. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Norman Gunderson
Norman Elwood Gunderson, 78, of Silverdale died Oct. 24, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born July 23, 1923, to Sigward and Bertha (Wood) Gunderson. He graduated from Bainbridge Island High School in 1942.
He was a warehouseman at Safeway for 25 years, retiring in 1985.
He was a Mariners fan and enjoyed travel.
Survivors include a son, Norman of Bothell; three daughters, Shirley Gunderson of Silverdale, Marie Rayburn of Bremerton and Fay LaFrance of Covington; a sister, Mavis Potter of Lynnwood; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Seabold cemetery on Bainbridge Island, with inurnment at the cemetery. Arrangements are by Kass Funeral Home.
Sunday Emeka
Sunday A. Emeka, 57, of Port Orchard, died Oct. 22, 2001, at her home.
She was born Dec. 30, 1943, in Oregon City, Ore., to Warren and Pearl (Yodet) Bacon. She graduated from Corvallis High School in 1962 and Oregon State University in 1967.
She married
Mauris L. Emeka on July 1, 1966, in Corvallis.
She was owner and operator of Emeka Wheels in Port Orchard and later taught school in the South Kitsap school District.
She enjoyed her horses, dogs and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was a Protestant.
Survivors include her husband; her parents of Redmond, Ore.; four sons, Amon and Apollo of Port Orchard, and Gabriel and Justin of Seattle; a sister, Bessie Nordahl of Redmond, Ore.; and four grandchildren.
A funeral is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Hubbard United Church of Christ, in Hubbard, Ore. Interment
will take place at Hubbard cemetery.
