Duane Ballew
Duane Carr Ballew, 72, of Gig Harbor died Oct. 18, 2001, in Gig Harbor.
He was born May 8, 1929, in Bremerton to Don and Helen (Mastick) Ballew.
He served in the Army from 1955 to 1958.
Mr. Ballew was a machinist at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
He was a member of the Burley Historical Society, Burley Improvement Club and the National Rifle Association.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Nov. 4 at the Burley Community Center, in Burley. Arrangements are under the direction of Lynn Funeral Home in Tacoma.
Max Killinger
Max T. Killinger, 78, of Port Orchard died from complications of lung cancer Oct. 25, 2001, in Port Orchard.
He was born May 6, 1923, in Redfield, S.D., to Charles and Theora (Upchurch) Killinger.
He served in the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1945.
He married
Lovina Belle Forester on Dec. 28, 1970, in Kennewick.
He was a machinist for Battelle Northwest and Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 44 years, retiring in 1985.
He enjoyed sailing and travelling and was a member of the Port Orchard Yacht Club.
He was a Christian.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert Hadley of Woodinville, and Kim Hadley of Tacoma; two daughters, Alicia Sanders of Payette, Idaho, and Vicki Hadley of Washington; a brother, Charles "Buck" Killinger of Grapeview; four grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Karl Killinger, and a brother, John Killinger.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. Graveside service and interment will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Lane cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Bradley Hamilton
Bradley J. Hamilton, 41, of Port Orchard died Oct. 24, 2001, at his home.
He was born Feb. 24, 1960, at Misawa Air Force Base in Japan, to Wesley and Glenda (Koons) Hamilton. He graduated from Kent-Meridian High School and attended the University of Washington.
He married
Vickie Boblett on July 5, 1980, in Kent.
He served in the Navy for 20 years as a nuclear technician. He achieved the rank of E-7 chief petty officer and was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Hamilton was a Mason and a member of the Antique Engine Club. He was a Baptist.
He is survived by his wife; his parents of Kent; a son, Joel of Port Orchard; a daughter, Shelly Hamilton of Port Orchard; three brothers, Clint of Denver, Colo., Verl of Mount Vernon and Boyd of Bonney Lake; a sister, Colleen Hansford of Lynnwood; and paternal grandparents, Wes and Luginia Hamilton.
A memorial service is planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. Interment
will take place at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent. Arrangements are by Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Albert Cooper
Albert S. Cooper, 88, of Bremerton died Oct. 26 at Ashley Gardens in Bremerton.
He was born Feb. 18, 1913, in Ilo, Idaho, to John and Bertha (Vadney) Cooper. He was educated at home.
He married
Bea LaHatt on July 19, 1941, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
He worked for American Machine Works in Spokane and Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He retired in 1970.
He was active with Boy Scout troop 550 and enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Bill of Bremerton, and John of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Lorri Snider of Mukilteo; and one grandchild.
At his request no service is planned. Cremation by Cherry Grove Crematory with inurnment at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are by Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Maurice O'Neill
Maurice E. O'Neill, 83, of Bremerton died Oct. 25, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Jan. 11, 1918, in Joliet, Ill., to Henry and Florence O'Neill. He graduated from high school in Joliet in 1936 and from Joliet Junior College in 1940.
He married
Mary Frances (Breen) O'Neill on June 4, 1944, in Victoria, Texas.
Mr. O'Neill served in the Army Air Corps from 1940 to 1946 and from 1950 to 1953. He achieved the rank of first lieutenant.
He worked later as an electronics mechanic at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center at Keyport for 10 years, retiring in 1980.
Mr. O'Neill enjoyed rose gardening and woodcarving. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Paul of Burr Ridge, Ill., and Bill of Bremerton; two daughters, Peggy Plastina of Oak Park, Ill., and Carol Chollar of Bremerton; and nine grandchildren.
Visitation is 9:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Interment
will be at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent with arrangements by Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Fredrick Reed
Fredrick E. Reed, 73, of Bremerton died Oct. 20, 2001, at Bremerton Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Feb. 12, 1928, in Lima, Ohio, to Melvin and Lovie (McGinnis) Reed.
He served in the Navy from 1946 to 1947.
He married
Altha Murner on Jan. 5, 1949, at the Bremerton Naval Chapel.
He was a machinist at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 33 years, retiring in 1983.
Mr. Reed enjoyed fishing and camping.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Ron, Rick and David, all of Bremerton; two brothers, William and Carl, both of Lima; three sisters, Juanita Stemen of Lima, Betty Pohlabel of Port Saint Lucie, Fla., and Shirley Jett of La Belle, Fla.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Danny L.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Edwin Sirovy
Edwin George Sirovy, 87, of Poulsbo died Oct. 22, 2001, in Poulsbo.
He was born Jan. 30, 1914, in Jackson, Minn., to Henry and Julia Sirovy. He graduated from Windom High School in Windom, Minn.
He married
his wife Esther in 1937 in Windom. They were married
63 years prior to her death last year.
He was an electrician at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 35 years, retiring in 1971.
He played semi-pro baseball as a pitcher for the the Bremerton Blue Jackets. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He has been a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Bremerton since 1943.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30 at Memorial Lutheran Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Lloyd Robinson
Lloyd Robinson, 83, of Port Orchard died Oct. 20, 2001, at Port Orchard Care Center.
He was born May 5, 1918, in Pitcher, Okla., to William and Stella Abbott (Ellison) Robinson.
He worked for North American Aviation Inc. as an aviation engineer and helped in the design of the X-15 hypersonic research program.
He enjoyed playing the electric guitar.
He was a member of the Apostolic faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Sylvia Nicholas of Sacramento, Calif., and Johanna Brooks of Port Orchard; a sister Sibyl Henry of El Paso, Texas; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virgie (Sammons) in 1971; and a son, Richard William "Dicky Bill" Robinson.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 11 a.m. Interment
will take place at Fraola cemetery in Olalla.

Anna Huss
Anna Huss, 85, of Port Orchard died Oct. 11, 2001, following a stroke at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard.
She was born Nov. 6, 1915, in Franklin, N.J., to John and Fannie (Siokla) Huss. She attended Springdale High School in Springdale, Penn.
She married
John Simon in May 1933 in Franklin, N.J. He preceded her in death in 1968.
Mrs. Huss had worked as a beautician and waitress for a combined total of 26 years. She retired in 1980.
She enjoyed weaving, reading and volunteering with hospitals, her church and local union offices. She was a member of the Presbyterian church.
Survivors include one daughter, Eleanore Curtis of Belfair; one brother, John Huss of Laguna Hills, Calif.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son, Jack Simon, one brother, Paul, and three sisters, Sadie, Nellie and Elsie.
A private memorial service will be held in San Francisco.

Myles Gangell
Myles I. Gangell, 84, of Kitsap County died Oct. 20, 2001, at Northwoods Lodge in Silverdale from complications following open heart surgery.
He was born Dec. 3, 1916, in Newington, Conn., to William and Eva (Jennings) Gangell.
Mr. Gangell served with the 169th Infantry in the South Pacific during World War II (1941 to 1946).
He married
Maida Whiting on Jan. 4, 1964, in Rockville, Conn.
He later worked for 25 years as a filter and heavy equipment operator with the Metropolitan District Commission in Hartford, Conn. He retired in 1981.
Mr. Gangell enjoyed gardening and was a member of American Legion Post 68.
Survivors include his wife; one son, John of Barkhamsted, Conn.; one stepdaughter, Lois of Bremerton; one brother, Lawrence of Bloomfield, Conn.; one sister, Sylvia Kelly of Canton, Conn.; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death one week ago by a brother, Vernon.
Services are private. Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove.
