Knute Johnson
Edmund Paysen "Knute" Johnson, 78, of Gig Harbor died Oct. 3, 2001, of myelodysplasia syndrome at his home.
He was born June 30, 1923, in Auburn to Edmund M. and Eleanor (Carstens) Johnson. He graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1941.
He married
Beverly Jane Campbell on Aug. 10, 1946, in Port Orchard.
Mr. Johnson served in the Navy from 1941 until his retirement in 1965, as an aviation machinist's mate, achieving the rank of chief petty officer.
He enjoyed woodworking. He was a member of the Gig Harbor Lions Club and Burley Bible Church.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Edmund, Douglas, Kenneth, and Christopher, all of Gig Harbor, and Glen of Port Orchard; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ted.
A memorial service is planned for 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Burley Bible Church followed by a 1 p.m. graveside service at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Clara Crawford
Clara Dorothy Crawford, 90, of Bremerton died Sept. 28, 2001, in Bremerton.
She was born Oct. 20, 1910, in Seattle to Peder and Marie (Ringstad) Wick. She graduated in 1928 from Silverdale High School and in 1930 from Wilson's Modern Business School.
She married
Kenneth R. Crawford on Dec. 24, 1930, in Silvana. He preceded her in death in 1988.
She was a real estate broker and a music and appliance store owner.
Mrs. Crawford was a member of Eastern Star and Nordmanns-Forbundet. She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a son, Jerry R. Crawford of Belfair; a daughter, Joyce M. Johnson of Bremerton; a sister, Stella Stuller of Arlington; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Marguerite Adams.
Services were held on Wednesday at Lewis Funeral Home. Interment
will be at Twin Firs cemetery in Belfair.
Randy Johnson
Randy G. Johnson, 44, of Port Orchard died Oct. 3, 2001, of cancer in Bremerton.
He was born Dec. 29, 1956, in Westwood, Calif., to Gilbert and Glenelle (Walton) Johnson. He attended Central Kitsap High School.
He married
Coreen Haydock on July 26, 1980, in Silverdale.
Mr. Johnson had worked in commercial construction for more than 20 years. He was a construction superintendent when he retired because of disability.
He enjoyed fishing and golfing. He was a member of Christ The Rock Community Church in Port Orchard.
Survivors include his wife; his parents now of Charlotte, N.C.; two sons, Joshua and Dustin of Port Orchard; one daughter, Bekah of Port Orchard; four brothers, Steve of St. Louis, Mo., Doug of Silverdale, Barry of Port Orchard, and Gordy of Neah Bay; one sister, Melissa Varley of Charlotte; and his grandmother, Bobbie Walton of West Point, Calif.
A memorial service is planned for noon Monday at Christ The Rock Community Church, 4100 Old Clifton Road. Interment
will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Opal Rader
Opal Harriet Mills Rader, 93, of Bremerton died Oct. 3, 2001, of natural causes in Bremerton.
She was born Aug. 15, 1908, in Columbus, Mont., to Nelson and Elizabeth (Parker) Drain.
She married
Verne E. Mills on March 28, 1942, in Missoula, Mont. He preceded her in death in 1960.
She married
Nathan Rader on May 15, 1963. He preceded her in death in 1972.
Mrs. Rader had worked in shoe repair in Newport and as an independent grocer in two Spokane locations. She retired in 1978.
She participated in activities at the Bremerton Senior Center and enjoyed needlecrafts, particularly quilting.
Survivors include one daughter, LaVerne Kay Ball of Bremerton; one sister, Eleanor Faulkner of Columbus; and two grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by five brothers.
Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. Interment
will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens.
Albert Duncan
Albert S. Duncan, 81, of Bremerton and formerly of Yarnell, Ariz., died Sept. 23, 2001, of natural causes at the Veterans Administration hospital in Seattle.
He was born Nov. 29, 1919, in Cardwell, Mont., to Dennis and Cora Duncan.
Mr. Duncan served in the Army from 1942 to 1945.
He married
Mildred Hammond Beahm on April 21, 1952, in Billings, Mont. She preceded him in death in 1983.
Mr. Duncan worked with industrial machinery, retiring in 1981.
He was a member of American Legion Post 79 in Yarnell.
Survivors include his stepson, Richard Beahm of Bremerton; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Zales and Floyd.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Central Kitsap Presbyterian Church, 9300 Nels Nelson Road NW in Bremerton.

Gladys Demianiw
Gladys Demianiw, 83, of Bremerton died Oct. 1, 2001, of natural causes in Bremerton.
She was born Sept. 18, 1918, in Churchill, Tenn., to Lloyd and Mary (Walters) Ford.
She married
John Demianiw on June 15, 1944, in Bremerton. He preceded her in death in 1990.
Mrs. Demianiw enjoyed her family and longtime friends.
Survivors include one son, Anton of Port Orchard; one brother, Everett Ford of Kingsport, Tenn.; one sister, Jane Ford of Kingsport; and one grandson.
Dagny Bockelie
Dagny L. Bockelie, 94, of Bremerton died Sept. 26, 2001, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center.
She was born April 17, 1907, in Norway to Lars and Maria (Tryland) Eliasson. She attended school in Norway.
She married
Trygve (Timmie) B. Bockelie on April 2, 1925, in Seattle. He preceded her in death in 1983.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family and reading.
She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include a son, Henrik of Bremerton; a sister, Gerd Thuestad of Santa Rosa, Calif.; five grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a son, Norman of Bremerton; five sisters, Sofie Hansen, Oline Bjornsen, Anna Bjornsen, Magda Rye and Leonora Tryland; and five brothers, Elias Larsen, Tobias Larsen, Olaf Vigmostad, Bjarne Larsen and Leonard Tryland.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Stephen Wiley
Stephen Douglas Wiley, 28, of Port Orchard died from an aneurysm Oct. 2, 2001, at Tacoma General Hospital.
He was born Sept. 24, 1973, in Bremerton to Douglas and Cindy Wiley. He was a 1992 graduate of North Mason High School and attended Washington State University where he played baseball.
He married
Amy Black on March 1, 1999, in Kihei, Hawaii.
He enjoyed scuba diving and flying.
He was a member of Christian Life Center in Port Orchard.
Survivors include his wife; his parents; a sister, Karri Hohmann of Belfair; maternal grandmother, Virginia Trammell of Belfair; paternal grandmother, Frieda Wiley of Belfair. He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Halle Black.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Christian Life Center.

Ruth Carlson
Ruth B. Carlson, 87, of Chico died Oct. 2, 2001, at home.
She was born March 6, 1914, in Arnegard, N.D., to Leo and Hilda (Strigel) Jacobson. She graduated in 1932 from high school in Arnegard.
She married
Clarence "Swede" Carlson on Dec. 24, 1959.
She was the comptroller at Naval Undersea Warfare Center at Keyport and Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 20 years.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She was a Lutheran.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Joe Aardahl of Kingston; two sisters, Eunice Aardahl of Bremerton and Alice Bauman of Poulsbo. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Jensen.
A gathering of friends and family will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday at the family home in Chico. A graveside service will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

George Tubbs
George Anthony Tubbs, 77, of Bremerton died Oct. 1, 2001, at Forest Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born July 20, 1924, in Floydada, Texas, to Arthur and Lucille (Goslee) Tubbs. He graduated in 1942 from high school in Floydada.
He served in the Army as a radio operator from 1943 to 1946.
He later was a firefighter in Los Angeles for 26 years, retiring in 1974.
He married
Inez Fredrickson on Sept. 25, 1985, in Fairfield, Calif.
He enjoyed music. He was a Protestant.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Glenn of Paris. Texas; three sisters, Susanne Carroll, Jeanine Cole and Libbie Nimme, all of Paris; two brothers, Ralph of Pomona, Calif., and Ken of Mercer Island; three sisters, Catherine Walrath and Clara Brown, both of Placerville, Calif., and Margaret Fisher of California; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Thomas "Pinky."
A graveside service and interment will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
