Eiko Pope
Eiko Pope, 66, of Port Orchard died Aug. 29, 2001, at Port Orchard Care Center.
She was born Dec. 15, 1934 in Sasebo City, Japan, to Gunshiro and Ish Horiuchi.
She married
John Pope in April of 1963 in Tokyo. He preceded her in death in 1998.
She was a homemaker and member of the Japanese Peninsula Women's Society.
She was a Buddhist.
Survivors include a son, William of Mountlake Terrace.; and one grandchild.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Lane cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Richard Kelly Sr.
Richard Gordon Kelly Sr., 84, of Poulsbo died Sept. 17, 2001, at home.
He was born March 22, 1917, in Seattle to Richard F. and Emily J. (Mylchrist) Kelly. He graduated in 1935 from Kirkland High School and attended the University of Washington.
He married
Nadine Calvin on Nov. 23, 1938, in Kirkland.
He was the sales manager at Elliott Bay Lumber and Mill Co. for more than 30 years, retiring in 1976.
He enjoyed model railroading and stamp collecting.
He was a Presbyterian.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Richard G. Jr. of Poulsbo; a brother, Rev. William M. of Tigard, Ore.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel. Inurnment will take place at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Bellevue. Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.
Andy Babb
Andrew "Andy" Babb, 92, of Bremerton died Sept. 17, 2001, in Bremerton.
He was born April 25, 1909, in Greenville, Tenn., to William and Martha (Britton) Babb. He graduated in 1929 from Washtucna High School and in 1931 from Blair Business College, both in Spokane.
He married
Alice Snape in 1942 in Bremerton. She preceded him in death in 1975.
He served in the Navy from 1942 to 1945, achieving the rank of specialist first class.
He was a budget analyst at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for more than 40 years, retiring in 1973.
He was a member of the Northwest Dahlia Conference, Kitsap County Dahlia Society and chairman of the trial gardens for the American Dahlia Society.
He was a Protestant.
Survivors include a son, Ron of Belfair; a daughter, Barbara Jo Hansen of Belfair; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel, followed with a funeral service at 1 p.m. Interment
will be at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Frank Partyke
Frank Paul Partyke, 83, of Hansville died Sept. 13, 2001, at Bremerton Health and Rehabilitation.
He was born May 30, 1918, in Wilton, N.D., to John and Josie (Oreszyjslki) Partyke.
He served in the Army from 1941 to 1943.
He married
his wife, Edith, on March 13, 1947, in Moorhead, Minn.
He was an electrician for Foss Meat Packing Company for several years.
He was a Catholic.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, John and David, both of Hansville; three daughters, Kathy Thorne of Eglon, Sandra Kurrus of Port Townsend and Debbie Warren of Bremerton; a sister, Angeline Poole of Bremerton; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard; a brother, Edward; and a sister, Birdie Folwick.
At his request, no service will be held. Cremation by Cherry Grove Crematory at The Stone Chapel.

Barbara Mercer
Barbara Mercer, 73, of Bremerton died Sept. 11, 2001, in Bremerton.
She was born Feb. 8, 1928, in Kansas to Paul and Lois Atkins. She was a 1944 graduate of South Kitsap High School.
She worked for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard until 1978.
Survivors include two sons, Stewart and James; three daughters, Susan Rebelski, Kimberly Witte and Shannon Garman; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Randal.
Private services are planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Tuell-McKee of Bremerton.

Cecil Johnsen
Cecil W. Johnsen, 84, of Silverdale died Sept. 12, 2001, of natural causes in Bremerton.
He was born Aug. 24, 1917, in Silverdale to Harry and Celia (Greaves) Johnsen. He graduated in 1935 from Port Washington Union Bay High School in Silverdale.
Mr. Johnsen served in the Coast Guard from 1937 to 1940.
He married
Cynthia Baker on Oct. 11, 1940, in Silverdale.
Mr. Johnsen worked as a plumber for more than 40 years, retiring in 1978.
He enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Brian and Dean, both of Silverdale; and two granddaughters. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harry, and a sister, Marian Horner.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. A private graveside gathering is planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Thomas Koenig
Thomas J. Koenig, 83, of Bremerton died Sept. 11, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born May 21, 1918, in Buffalo, z N.Y., to Karl and Loisetta (Oehser) Koenig. He graduated from South Park High School in Buffalo in 1936, received a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Arizona in Tucson in 1965 and a master's degree in English also from the University of Arizona in 1970.
Mr. Koenig served in the Army from 1939 until his retirement in 1959, achieving the rank of major. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the Korean Service Medal.
He married
Margaret Edwards on Dec. 8, 1966, in Bisbee, Ariz. She preceded him in death in 1997.
Following his military career, Mr. Koenig was a high school teacher for 14 years, retiring in 1979.
He enjoyed painting. He was a member of the Retired Officers Club and Family of God Lutheran Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include one son, Mark of Tucson; three daughters, Barbara Koenig of Elma, N.Y., Maureen West of Silverdale and Julie Magnante of Anaheim, Calif.; two sisters, Hazel Koenig and Carol Stuart, both of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Ann Morelock.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Friday at Family of God Lutheran Church.

Ralph Bolen
Ralph Edwin Bolen, 81, of Bremerton died Sept. 15, 2001, of cancer at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Oct. 9, 1919, in Lincoln, Neb., to Gilbert and Violet (Stewart) Bolen. He attended high school in Lincoln.
He married
Florence "Flo" Spreier on May 10, 1945, in Kansas. She preceded him in death in 1999.
Mr. Bolen worked as a journeyman watchmaker with the Elgin Watch Company in Lincoln. Later, he worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in both the optic shop and the instrument shop, retiring in the early 1960s after more than 10 years.
Mr. Bolen was a member of the American Federation of Musicians and of the Elks.
Survivors include one son, Gary of Bremerton; one daughter, Barbara Lea Smith of Bremerton; two sisters, Erna Christiansen of Rathdrum, Idaho and Jane Bolen of Omaha, Neb.; and two grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Gilbert.
A funeral service is planned for 11 a.m. Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home with interment at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Denny Angel
Former Bremerton resident Denny Willis Angel, 59, of Vancouver, Wash., died Sept. 17, 2001, in Vancouver.
He was born May 10, 1942, in Bremerton to Willis and Jean Angel.
He married
Sherry Kallioinen.
Mr. Angel had worked as a sales representative with Intercraft Industries for 22 years. At the time of his death, he was a sales representative with Larson-Juhl Inc.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and was a member of the Plymouth Prowlers.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Michael of Olympia, Guy of Beaverton, Ore., and Christopher and Marc, both of Vancouver; one daughter, Tambie Angel of Bothell; one brother, Ben of Mt. Vernon; and one grandchild.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Friday at Milwaukie Lutheran Church, 3810 SELake Road, in Milwaukie, Ore. Arrangements are under the direction of Vancouver Funeral Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross and the American Heart Association.
Paul Smith
Paul Harry Smith, 76, of Lake Symington died of lung cancer Sept. 15, 2001, at home.
He was born April 10, 1925, in Oxford, Mich., to R. Harry and Edna (McCaughna) Smith. He graduated from Monroe High School in Monroe, Mich., in 1949 from the U.S. Naval Academy and in 1951 from the University of Michigan.
He served in the Merchant Marines and the Navy during World War II.
On March 22, 1952, he married
Doris Ostrander in New York City.
He later was an aerospace engineer for several years. He and his wife also volunteered with the Peace Corps, serving in Moldova, formerly of the Soviet Union.
He also was a full-time volunteer with Habitat for Humanity in Fresno, Calif.
Mr. Smith was a Protestant and enjoyed playing duplicate bridge.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Daniel P. of San Leandro, Calif., David L. of San Francisco, Calif., and Thomas W. of Bishop, Calif.; two daughters, Patricia Wafer of Roseburg, Ore., and Clair Bourgeois of Keyport; a brother, William D. of Monroe; and
11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marilou Yoas and Barbara.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
